Not me I'm waiting to see what's coming out in spring. Maybe a tegra 3 phone!

I don't think there's enough to pull me unless we see the nexus or note on att. For those, I'd use the upgrade I still have (thank you, family plans).

I'm past my return date, no upgrade yet available on my rather new contract. I still have hope in the Thrill, the hardware definitely appears to be ready for ICS, and although I find it a bit ridiculous that LG shipped a hardware that's close to a Nexus S with Froyo on it, it's NT enough to scare me off. Battery life, feature functionality, and driver source code will get better with time. Enjoy your tri-dual hardware, and hang in there! There's too many development jumping ship on this awesome device.

There's a review of the Nitro on Androidcentral.com . They reported battery life is really bad. It's on Gingerbread.
Honestly I don't know anyone would upgrade to a phone right now when super crazy high tech stuff will be coming up pretty quickly. I'd rather wait for till the middle or late of next year to pick up something quad core with a 4.5" or larger screen.

I'm tempted to try the new windows tango, but i'm almost out of return time on my galaxy s ll sky rocket, yeah i know this is the thrill 4g 3d thread, and yes i still have my LG, (well my wife has it, and she loves it)
back to windows tango, it does have the 4.5 screen but no quad core, infact the darn thing only has one processor, so hopefully something does happen for the LG thrill and maybe we'll see ICS.

Infuse or SGSII?

So, I will have an upgrade coming up in june, and will be giving my dad my captivate in exchange for him buying me a new phone. I was just wondering what everybody's thoughts were on either the Infuse 4g or the SGSII?
That 4.5 inch screen on the infuse looks mighty fine, but I feel like I might want to wait for the SGSII. Any thoughts? I just don't know if the wait for the SGSII is worth it, although I can see myself holding out quite a while now that I'm running gingerbread goodness.
And please don't talk about other phones. I wouldn't buy an atrix if my life depended on it, and I would rather keep my captivate than go with the htc inspire. I just don't see myself ever going away from the SAMOLED displays that I have grown to love thanks to my cappy, and SAMOLED+ will only fuel my addiction.

This. It's exactly what I'm going to do.
Herp derp Captivate XDA Premium.
SGS2 without a doubt, we're talking dual core vs single core, older processor vs new processor, one gig ram vs 512MB ram, froyo vs gingerbread, the list goes on and on.

Very true. The Infuse is a very appealing option, but I'm definitely putting the SGSII on top of my list right now. I just hope they drop a release date soon, so I know exactly how long I will be waiting. If the release date is too far out I might have to go with the infuse, then use my dad's upgrade when the SGSII eventually drops. FCC approval is teasing me like none other.

I think the only thing you get with the Infuse is a slightly larger screen - if that means something to you.
Infuse = 4.5", SGS2 = 4.3"
Both use SAMOLED2 so the quality should be equal.
I'm holding out for the SGS II also.

I've used droids from Motorola, Dell and now Samsung for at least a few months each and I've got to say I'm VERY impressed with Samsung's customizations to the Android OS. Things like the power controls in the notification bar, multiple lock screens, having an option to text someone right after hanging up and lots of other little modifications have made Samsung my new favorite for Android phones.
After spending as much time as I did trying to get the resource hogging Motoblur off my Backflip and simply ignoring the StageUI that Dell uses, it's refreshing to see modifications that are actually useful being added to Android.
Almost every custom rom image I've seen for the cappy includes touchwiz modifications, which is really saying something when hackers could easily remove it.
I've never used an HTC which is the only other brand I'm interested in trying, but I'm really impressed with Samsung's work, they have my loyalty.
sgs II is way better in my opinion...
the only thing about infuse is the 4.5 inch screen but 0.2 in doesnt really matter...
and SGSII has a better processor, better almost everything.
Just wait to see what At&t does. and the price can change your decision
but i recommend that you wait till SgsII comes out and then decide

Yeah, I definitely want the SGSII, and price isn't really a determining factor. I bought my Cappy at full retail because apple screwed up my iphone 3g with their ****ty software which made it laggy as hell. Good phone for my mom, but I couldn't take it any longer. As a result, my dad will be taking my captivate and buying me whatever phone I want once I am able to upgrade in June, as I will be able to get the new contact price. I just hope AT&T doesn't drag their feet with getting the SGSII to market.

I will probably get the SGSII as long as it has a properly working GPS and Flash
(cant believe they didnt add a flash to my cappy )
Ok, so my dad had to use my phone to tether his laptop this weekend, and wants to make the switch soon as a result. So it looks like I have to choose between the Inspire or the Infuse...don't have time to wait for the SGSII unfortunately. What are peoples thoughts on those two? I definitely like samoled displays, so the infuse is a bit more appealing, I just want to know if you guys think the inspire had anything going for it that should make me reconsider it?

if it is between the infuse and inspire the infuse has some advantages but the price in hard to justify unless you use the hd playback. in which case the infuse has the only true 1080p hd playback that i know of. other than that the infuse makes video calls, inspire doesnt. the infuse is great but the specs are very close to the inspire and the size might be too much for some people, it is almost comical really.

very true but the infuse feels flimsy, there is no sense of quality, on the other hand i have opened up an evo and dont think much of htc's design principles either.
if it werent for the captivates less than stellar gps (not to say mine is bad, just not stellar) lower amount of ram and the shutdown issue that not every user is going to be able to fix i would say it was the most practical and best built android phone on att. but there are design flaws.
SGSII or something better. I wouldn't waste my time with the Infuse.
Caution swyping! Read at your own risk.
Like I said before, price isn't an issue. Size isn't either, as I have large hands, and being a 6'2" 260 lb guy means my pockets aren't lacking in size either. My captivate still feels small. Also, I wish I could wait for the SGSII, but that isn't happening anymore. I'll probably end up going with the Infuse, because I love samoled displays, and though it's still single core, the 1.2 ghz in the Infuse beats the 1 ghz in the inspire. I suppose being able to side load apps from the get go is a big plus too.
I just hope the dev community shows the infuse even a fraction of the love they've shown the captivate.

if your talking about a camera flash i hear you but if your talking about the browser ad on then really... there is an official update for both the rogers AND at&t versions of the captivate as well as pleanty of guides to get 2.2 and even 2.3 unofficially once you have on of those go to the market and simply search flash and install it.

UPGRADE this month - what should I do??!!

Hey guys
I am due for my upgrade this month on Sprint and have no clue what to do. I've tried the EVO 3D and was really pleased with the speed and overall features. I've tried the Photon 4G too, and despite the great things I heard about it, I found the UI somewhat laggy and distasteful, and the screen somewhat pixelated. However, with the HTC+Beats Audio partnership announced today, it seems there will be a whole new line of HTC phones coming out this fall/october (likely same $200 price but possibility of faster 1.5 ghz dual-core processor, 8 MP cam, and even new Sense 3.5 -- specs rumored for HTC Vigor for VZW). I really like the idea of even better hardware as well as sound quality, but want the Evo and the cool 3D features too. It also seems worthwhile to wait b/c of the imminent Ice Cream Sandwich update and the new devices to come with that (ex. Nexus Prime or whatever it's called). What do you think I should do, and what are you ppl who also have upcoming upgrades thinking of doing???
I would like to hear your opinions
Thanks,

The 3vo will get upgraded to Ice Cream Sandwich sooner than most phones so it's definitely a solid choice, but then these are the first generation of dual-core like you said. Once the better dual-core processors hit the market you'll be thanking yourself for waiting. As well, all this open sense stuff should be taking more effect in a few months and a lot of developers are gonna be all over the newer sense phones.

Wait. Theyre killing off a lot of phones in the next 3 months to release a new line.

I'm waiting to see what develops. My guess is that the new Samsung (Within) will be the next big developer phone, but Nexus Prime is definitely on my radar. Most likely will not be released until the holidays ... but who knows for sure. I am not impressed with the Photon. For the moment, my original Supersonic is still working great.
I agree with what everyone else is saying too. I'd wait it out, see what news Sprint gives out on what other devices they have.. Or at the very least wait for the sgs2 to get released, better yet the nexus 3 / prime
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
Either way you look at it, you're still going to get a device that'll be outdated the day it hits the shelves. I got my EVO 3D on pre-order and got it opening day, I've had it for over a month now, and newer things are coming out. It all just depends on how long you want to wait, not what phones to wait for.
Wait a few months if you can. Newest phones are right on the horizon so if you don't need a new beeter phone right now be patient and wait.
You'll be glad you did.
Even better, save some money while your waiting that way you don't have to use your upgrade that way when another new phone comes out 3 months after you bought the first you can use your upgrade on that.

Thanks everyone for your insightful responses. I've been thinking about it, and I think the best thing to probably do is just hold out another month or so and wait to see what gets announced (my birthday is at the end of Sept. anyways). I should be able to keep my current phone for a while with the fairly speedy roms out right now on the HeroC. If I don't see anything new that interests me, which I don't think will be the case, I will always have the 3D as a backup option.
stay classy, XDA
Wait for the galaxy s 2.
I'm trying to figure out what I should do as well, my upgrade is on September 1st.
Most likely I'm just going to get the Samsung Galaxy S 2, and upgrade it to Ice Cream with the help of the geniuses on this website.
I highly doubt the Prime will make it to Sprint very quickly, the Nexus S took 4-5 months did it not? I thought it came out officially around November then Sprint carried it in March or April, if I'm not mistaken. I suppose if you want to buy unlocked then wait for the Prime but I don't think Sprint will get it so quickly unfortunately.
If they were smart they'd try to, the iPhone is coming in October, so Google really should push the phone out to the carriers ASAP. If they would announce something next month officially I would wait a month or maybe even two, but without an announcement, I'll probably get the Galaxy, it's one helluva phone.
If you look at the two the differences will be very small..yes the Nexus will have a nicer screen certainly, but does that make the Galaxy's screen any less nice? probably the second nicest looking screen out there. Then the Nexus will have a slightly faster processor, but who knows maybe the Nexus won't have removable storage like the last one, if that's the case I would buy the galaxy immediately, I don't like being restricted in storage space (unless the standard amount is 32gb..then I probably wouldn't really care)

I share the anxiety about the upgrade! I was eligible last month and haven't pulled the trigger on anything yet.
It's like I have some neurotic attachment to the thing. The trackball, the perfect size, knowing how crappy it was when it came out and how awesome it is now with 2.3... it'll be hard to say goodbye!
I'm thinking the sg2; every phone I've owned besides the hero has been samsung and I have liked them all... but by the time it comes out it'll be easy to talk myself out of it and wait for the nexus prime.
Anybody that was used to the Hero's size and stepped up to a EVO-sized phone, was it hard to adjust to it? My gf has the EVO and I wouldn't want to walk around all day with a phone that big in my pocket.
I too, just upgraded to the EVO 3D after having my great Hero for 2 years. I was deciding between the 3D, the Photon 4G and the SGS2. I read a lot of official and unofficial reviews of all the phones as well as many opinions on this site. I have found that while the SGS2 is more powerful on paper, it doesn't bring too much else to the game other than an updated skin and 1080p recording.
Performance-wise, all of these dual core phones should offer a very significant upgrade compared to the Hero we all know and love. After using the Hero for 2 years and having the 3D as my first "modern" Android device, I can say that I wouldn't tell the difference between the 3D or the photon unless I compared them side by side. Any speed is a blessing compared to the Hero, even when it was overclocked and optimized.
Overall, the decision this time comes down to brand loyalty. I chose to stick with HTC because they have been reliable to me for the past two years, and quite frankly, I like Sense better than Motoblur or TouchWiz. All three phones are much more powerful than the Hero, and now is a great time to upgrade.
Hope that helped.

I had a chance to play with one today. Nice phone. But I just don't see the 3D as being anything more than a gimmick. It's a little on the thick side and doesn't offer an AMOLED. Though the LCD it has is certainly fine.
For the price...$450, one really can't go too wrong with it...unless the Infuse came down to that price point.
Just got my hand on it...stoood in line for 2.5 hrs to get it. so far so good, feels durable, screen is nice although i wish it was AMOLED or possibly Gorilla Glass(the one thing i'll have to get over coming from the captivate and infuse)..

Tell me about it. I returned my Infuse, which had superior music reproduction and an amazing SAMOLED+ display and sweet design and feel, because AT&T didn't come through on the update they promised for Aug.
The sound quaity was so good on the Infuse that I got addicted to it and am having withdrawal symptoms...lol
Would love if you post a review here
Here what i think of the phone. THe previous phone I was usign was an infused so the screen doesnt compare. But is still good. I have read some people complaining about it lagging. I havent had any issue with the phone its fast and snappy to me. I caompared it with my friends atrix on gingerbread. Didnt do a quadrant. but the thrill was way faster. You will read people complaining about it being on froyo. TO be honest who the hell uses the oem roms that come on the phone. Cyanogenmod is working ona rom fro this device atleast the European version. From what I have heard the 3d is actually working. The device does have 512mn or ram but the clock speed on it faster then any other devices that have 1 gig or ram. TO be honest I dont need pc specs on a phone. i have a laptop for that. I wont be compiling kernals on my phone Thats just what i think for 30 bucks from costco how can you go wrong. I would just try it for yourself caus eyou may like it or you may not. ust dont go off of what the reviews are saying
tethering
I rooted my new LG thrill today with superoneclick...no problems how do I tether it to my computer so I can use it as a wireless hotspot?
It looks really good enjoy it

Got the phone Sunday and the battery is pretty bad, went to sleep battery was pretty low when I woke up. Other than that, no problems with this phone yet, the 3D technology needs to be improved but, that's what early adopters get sometimes. Give it a couple of years the 3D will be amazing. Can't wait for CM for the Thrill to be released. It's already a snappy phone I can just imagine what it will be like with CM on it.
Love it. Coming from atrix did the tegra mod so I have the best of both worlds! Also the phones ram is dual channel so its faster then 1, 1 gig of ram! The battery sucks where did you get the 19mh one I'd love that! Then I wouldn't regret my phone switch at all!

I thought so too when I saw the commercials, but that one photo of my little girl in the store changed the game for me.
With the movie and electronics industries throwing their weight (read: money) behind 3D, it's probably not going away and won't be considered a gimmick for long.

Well my deadline is the end of Sept. to get one or the other. Only reason I was debating SGS2 would be the Super Amoled Plus, the Extra 512mb Ram and 200mhz cpu bump and it's being developed, granted the att version is slightly different because the screen size will be 4.3 inches from what I hear. Also the Sprint Version is already up for Pre-Order on amazon, ran across it accidentally. So my guess is the AT&T version is right around the corner than. Oh yea and battery life, although that is yet to be seen so I can't judge too much there and also Gingerbread instead of Froyo.
I'm keeping my thrill over galaxy s2 and here's why. Froyo vs gingerbread I can care less but for other people it matters with that said. All the reviews and comparison test you see on the net is a galaxy s2 on gingerbread vs a lg thrill/optimus 3D on froyo. The S2 in results never runs away with it, in some parts the LG does. So do the math if I have a phone running an outdated software but is keeping up with the latest and greatest software what will happen when I get the latest software? Besides the dual channel support is very important. I posted this video somewhere else in the forum but I'll post it here again. Watch the video it just makes sense > >

The thrill doesnt have LTE either, the Thrill has a 14.4meg HSDPA radio, where as the S2 has a 21meg HSDPA radio(the euro version atleast, unsure of the ATT version). Which where I live, matters. My S2 is faster then my thrill on speed tests when sitting side by side.
Both phones have pro's and con's. Nothing is perfect. As being an owner of BOTH devices I can say both are great. Browsing, surfing, gaming, all are about equal. Benchmarking, the S2 excells.
The only draw back is dev support, which the S2 excells 10 fold over the thrill, yes its just released, and it will take time.
Oh and also the Thrill is ATT branded. That alone just boils my blood. My S2 is unbranded.
If I had to pick again, I'd still pick the S2, simply because of design, weight, and the display. That alone is a HUGE selling point.
So everyone stop measurebating and be happy with your device.
Won't the S2 for att be branded as well?

Yes, unless you fork out 600$ and buy the legit S2 from amazon, the one with the home button, not the US version.

And those would be? Also, I doubt Gingerbread will bring much performance boost over Froyo, though I do hope LG updates the drivers for better performance (which Samsung has down with recent updates).
I agree, main reason to have SGII is the support it will get from here. Other than that the differences are not that different.
Thrill still holds its ground very well compared to its updated competitor.
This phone is fast and once updated with a custom rom to take more advantage of this phones hardware, I dont see the debate to really continue.
Yes it has 512mb more of RAM and 200Mhz of CPU speed, but the Thrill is using dual channel which has been proven to already be faster than the SGII.
So people can debate all they want and it wont matter. Whatever people own will be the device they defend to the teeth.
Main things I can say most people(non-techies) will use as a deciding factor would be SGII for the 2MP front facing camera, thin, sleek and extremely hyped, so people will want it to simply say they have it.
disclaimer: this is all IMO if you rage and panic, look in the mirror and realize this is the interwebs.....then slap yourself.
If I can't get the damn GPS on this thing fixed before the SGII is released, I will be trading.
I was hoping either of those phones would replace my iPhone 4. I have the LG Thrill but I hate the battery life on it and there's no way it could be my primary phone with a battery that poor.

I say get either or and you will be happy. With updates and ROMs coming in the future it usually drastically changes the battery life.
I also ordered a larger battery for mine and should recieve this week

There isnt a gps issue on the thrill that I am aware of....do you have a defective unit?
i think the point of my previous post was missed. if i am going to keep one of the 2 devices....the thrill vs sgs2... It will be the thrill @ $50.. (multiple lines so contract price is not issue here) The Celox should be out in q4 with faster processor and LTE....along with the rumored HTC lte phone.
Att and samsung pushed the release too far. within 45 days of its release (which still has not been confirmed) better phones will be out from HTC And possibly Samsung

I enjoy all of the GS2 touting in this Thrill forum.
Personally, the performance of the GS2 is nominally better than the Thrill. It's your choice if the extra $100 (or more) is worth it.

GS2 is running gingerbread...thrill ruining froyo. Wait til the update comes then well see who is nominally.
Custom Rom will really show who is top. Considering I have seen what bench marks for an SGS2 is when OC to 1.5ghz in one of those apps and really this one isn't too far behind from what I recall. Either way I might end up with both and probably wind up giving the thrill to my wife.

Gingerbread will not help it THAT much. It will all depend on how LG optimizes the drivers. On my nexus one, 2.3 actually hurt the performance.

I have both an couldnt be happier. Both phones are equally impressive. The S2 wins in my book because of the design, weight and pure sleekness. But for 50$ from radioshack for the thrill, you CANT go wrong.
And as for rom's head on over to the s2 forum and see everything . Besides I dont think anyone notable form the S2 will migrate to the Thrill. Possibly DesignGears, only because he is in the US.
DG is already here . He is the one who figured out how to.flash CWM for us.

Upgrade???

I am currently using a samsung Infuse and i really dont have any complaints the camerea is amazing and overall i love the phone other than when i am indoors me signal is completely trash sometimes. I was wondering if it would be a good switch to go to the thrill? the 3d draws me in and it seems like it has alot of power to it to. What do you guys think will this phone last on the dev scene??>? Hows the 3d etc thanks in advanced guys !

Wats the problem?
I love my Thrill!! I've had no problems. I was suppose to get the Infuse, but saw the Thrill and had to have it. Specially since it was way cheaper. I liked the screen of the Infuse, but when I saw how big the Otter Box for it was, it helped me make my final decision on the fuse. That thing would've looked like a laptop on my hip it was so big. I've had my Thrill since a week since it first came out and I've had no problem with it other than the battery life. But I just rooted it and installed the Doomed Froyo Slim ROM and the battery lasts 3X longer than it did before.

I think its a good upgrade. Its been slow to start from a dev standpoint due to the outdated Froyo (which is most likely the culprit of the horrible battery life). GB is due out soon for our sister phone the O3D this month and should be easily ported. The Thrill will get GB from ATT but the question is when. And I can only assume we'll see ICS in the not to distant future in one form or another.

I my Thrill and I think it would be a good upgrade.
Had mine since day one. Love the 3D and such, Android quirks get to me every now and than but if your coming from an Android you'll be right at home and have a better phone.
