Requirements:
- HTC Sync
- A Windows PC
1. Connect your phone into a PC, and make sure that USB Debugging is enabled
2. Click "Start here". A black command prompt window will open
3. Type: "adb reboot bootloader"
4. Once your phone is in bootloader (white screen with text), type "fastboot flash radio radio.img"
5. When the flashing completes, type "fastboot reboot"
6. Done. Enjoy!

Why to do such a hard way? Why don't just copy .zip root of the SD card and boot to bootloader and flash...nothing more, it's so simple.

need rooting help please

Hi all I am following the info for this rooting method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=544654 when i get to the section where i try and type comands in with the phone in fastboot i get errors saying cant load radio.img and it won't find the device with "adb devices" command but it will find it if the phone is on and running and pluged in to usb its a rogers htc dream using sdk 1.6 any ideas ?
what kind of phone do you have?
He has a rogers htc dream.
If it says it cannot load the .img make sure it is in the folder that you are operating from. If that still doesn't work, then make sure you have adb/fastboot properly set up

there is a sticky in this section and it points to another guide if you can't get it with that one.
I think the problem is getting the computer to recongize the phone in fastboot mode because when I try adb devices it returns a device but when the phone is completly booted but will not return device in fastboot runing windows sdk 1.6 and I updated the driver

the phone wont be recognized as a fastboot device if it is fully booted. It has to be in fastboot mode to be recognized. Boot phone into fastboot (back+power) then your 3 androids skateboarding screen. it will say fastboot. plug in your cable and it will say fastboot usb. then try fastboot devices.
Should it matter when I plug in the usb cable have tried putting it fastboot mode already pluged in and it says fastboot usb but the commands don't work should I plug the cable in after fastboot is started
It shouldnt matter.
allright got all the steps to work except for install the new update it gives me errors and says "e:can't open /sdcard/update.zip
(bad)
installation aborted"

fastboot commands work in bootloader
adb commands work in custom recovery (eg TWRP) or booted up ROM (with USB debugging enabled)
so if you need adb then enter custom recovery, check your device manager again, because it changes depending on where you are (bootloader, TWRP ... even version matters, or ROM)
once in TWRP, and device manager is good, adb devices should return you serial number and "recovery" -> then you can use adb commands

Not able to enter fastboot
Hi,
Following works
"adb devices"
"adb reboot recovery"
However when I do
"adb reboot bootloader"
device restarts and gets stuck at "YUREKA BLACK" "POWERED BY android".
Also when I start device with Volume Down+Power button, I get into FFBM.
It just has variety of test options and no boot to bootloader/recovery.
Two button at bottom are shutdown and reboot.
Device is manufactured in 2019.
Any ideas how to get into bootloader mode.
Edit: Solved, issue with driver in fastboot mode.

Put the patched.img in your platform-tools folder. If it still doesn't work with..fastboot flash boot magisk_patched.img.....then try using command prompt instead of power shell :good:

Your doing this in bootloader mode as well correct?? ?
Yea bro, you see the command, "fastboot devices"
Only thing I can think of at the moment is make sure your fastboot/adb files are the latest ones.
In case you need to download them

How to block bootloader on xt1799-2

I will try to describe exactly what I did. I warn you that if you want to repeat this, then do everything at your own risk!
Original message
1. The cleanest installation possible
We do a COMPLETE cleanup and format the DATA in TWRP not lower than version 3.4... then reboot into bootloader and connect to the PC with a good cable. Run Fastboot on the PC in the command line in turn enter the following commands:
fastboot devices
fastboot erase all
fastboot reboot bootloader
2. Install motoXT1799-2_GLOBAL_2021.02.20_oreo.zip
Use the firmware from here: motoXT1799-2_GLOBAL_2021.02.20_oreo
3. Install Magisk
The latest version of Magic-v22.0.apk must be installed and Magisk-v22.0.zip
4. Go to the developer menu
In the developer menu, we give permissions to unlock the OS bootloader, as well as give permission to debug via USB.
5. Run adb Fastboot on the command line
The phone must be connected to the PC via USB. We enter the command adb devices on the smartphone, a dialog box should appear to allow debugging this device or something like that, respectively, we give permission.
Next, we reboot into the bootloader with the command adb reboot bootloader
6. Blocking
Previously, we copy the stock recovery.img to the folder with adb Fastboot
Enter the commands:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastbo fastboot flashing lock
We reboot into the system.
7. Delete Magisk as unnecessary
To do this, go to the program select delete see two items select first "restore partitions or something like that" then delete.
8. Do a factory reset
If everything is done correctly, we get a device with Oreo Android 8.1.0 as if it came out of the factory.
