[Q] Note Battery drain? Rate Your battery Life!O_o? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
im thinking on buying the Note =]
i wanted to ask "heavy","excessive" users how is the phone battery drain ?>
*how long your phone lasts without charge (excessive, heavy use)?
*how long your phone lasts without charge (normal use)?

Im only use any of my smartphones with excessive, heavy use.
I have only 2 full battery circles and im using stock root rom/kernel.
All my phones was with very good custom kernels and lower voltages cause i wanted to stay alive during the day (8-23:00).
Now,my battery keep up the day but more easy than my previous phones (you can see which in my sign).
So, even my battery is new with few full circles, even im not using custom kernel for uc or uv, its better than my previous smartphones.

For a 5.3" display the battery life is exceeding expectations.. Based on my usage it has more battery life than the Galaxy S2 altho movie time is still the same at 8:30hrs to 9:00

I think it's very hard to define excessive vs normal use. Also the usage patterns of different people varies greatly. mostly because some use wifi on 100% of the time, others just turn it on here and there to check emails. Same for background sync and autosync which are battery drainers . So it's really hard to compare...
I keep my Wifi constantly on, background sync on, autosync is off but I have a task in Tasker to autosync every three hours manually. I have some push emails in K9 and twitter, gtalk and tapatalk syncing.
So on a day of super heavy usage the phone will last about 16-17 hours (ofcourse that includes about 7 hours of sleep time). With normal to moderate use I can make about 24-27 hours.

Hi people! I'm noob here! (wanted to write new but couldn't resist!)
I recently bought the Note and been having a few hard times with a couple of things.
One of the specifics concern battery life. Having been showered in the awesomeness of a 2,5 ma battery i thought the battery would be invulnerable but i was wrong.
The first 4 days the battery lasted me quite fine having to charge the phone once every two days. Heavy consumption was done for brief periods of 1-1:30 hours where i would try to shape my phone in the image that i wanted.
By the end of the fourth day i had a respectable amount of apps inside but not too many to explain the fact that my battery life now has decreased to 1 day.
I kinda panicked when i noticed the difference and went ahead to install Juice defender and advanced task cleaner apps. What's weird is the fact that before i did i would charge the phone before going to bed at night and then pull the plug when it would be full. By the morning the phone had lost about 25% while inert!
Noticing that i would go to the battery use feature in settings and see that the radio(!) which i hadn't been using was eating away my battery's life along with the screen which was inactive as a consequence of the phone in locked mode and a few other apps which filled the rest of the loss.
I tried to kill apps and i use Juice defender pro in custom advanced mode effectively rendering the phone dead after locking. It still consumes the same percentage of battery although now it blames the radio less and the live wallpaper more.
Am i to assume that my battery has reached it's "puberty" and that's "normal" from now on or is there a problem i just can't diagnose due to lack of experience?
This phone is my first android device. I do not know my way around it although i am learning more and more in a rapid learning curve.
Please note anything you might think has escaped my attention.
Thank you.

Your question is a little OT but i'll try to answer real quick.
25% loss of battery sounds about right if you have your Auto Sync ON.
Disable it and you'll go down to about 10% a night. Am i right or am i totally off here ?

I'll try it and see tonight. Thanks mfractal. Having been an IPhone 3G owner i gotta say, it's still kinda disheartening to see that 10% battery loss overnight is considered "normal". Will work my way around purchasing a second backup battery for emergencies.
Thanks again.

i also come from an iphone, and yeah, you have to make some adjustments.
you can take that drain to 1-2% if you disable Background Sync.

this was my batteries first full cycle. but you should get a general idea of how it performed.

this was what i would consider 'heavy' use, atleast by my standards. Edge only, Auto sync on, brightness at 75%, fairly frequent use.

Draining twice as fast after an update on apps this morning!
Hmmm, I have been using the Note for about 2 weeks now. With Juice Defender installed (with aggressive settings), I get by OK with the battery for a full day.
Well, that was until this morning when I ran an update of a few apps, and now I barely got to noon when the battery went completely drained. Same settings on Juice Defender.
Any clues on how to deal with this? I am thinking of reverting all the updates to double check.

guys, the steps to analyze battery drain are quite standard.
Download BetterBatteryStats (there's full version for free for XDA users, search the forum)
Download CPU Spy
Charge to 100%, reset statistics in CPU Spy and let the battery drain to 10-20%.
Then Analyze wakelocks in BetterBatteryStats and you will see which programs keep your phone awake.
If you want to make sure the phone is entering sleep mode and staying there, reset cpu spy stats before going to sleep and check in the morning. more than 90% of the time the phone should be in deep sleep. If not - again, betterbatterystats's wakelocks will show you what's keeping the phone awake.

sure NP.
problem is that background sync is required by quite a lot of programs to function correctly. Hell, market won't even open with it disabled.

My battery life is pretty good atm considering its still a new toy and gets a heavy workout.
The battery life will improve over time as my usage will drop but with the screen it pretty much can replace my pc for any basic web stuff outside off the heavy duty work only a high spec PC is good for.

Disabling background sync defeats the purpose of having a smart phone, no?

I do like my phone and the screen real estate, and understand that, it can be major battery hog. But I would really like it to be super efficient when the screen is off.
I was looking at my battery drain graphs, (Settings>About Phone>battery usage) and noticed that my phone is active almost all through the night, (even when the screen is off).
So i loose 25-30 overnight, on IDLE.
Is this normal?
I'm using Exchange instead of the Gmail app for my mail. Does that use more battery?
Regards

Of course gmail use more battery like every app running in background and syncing.
But your battery drain overnight is really so much.
The normal is 1% per hour without any app syncing in background and about 2% or 3% with background syncing apps.So you must check your apps.Something draining your battery.
Overall,i don't believe that note battery isn't good.i think Samsung haven't done so good work in filmwares and apps.
I have removed the most of Samsung apps and my battery is great.
Maybe a update from Samsung solved battery issue. In nexus previous days released a filmware update which change amazing the battery life.users mention that they loose 2% overnight. And before this update nexus battery sucks!
So, we must pray for something similar in our note from Samsung...
Sent from the best smartphone, Galaxy Note...

Do you have auto sync on? If so please turn it off and watch the drain overnight drop to about 10%
If not then we got a problem

I got my Note two weeks ago and am since struggling with my battery usage as well.
It's hard to reproduce, but Android OS is the reason for excessive battery usage when the phone is idle.
Today I found this quite interesting. Please have a look at this screenshot:
Since a few days ago I'm using Llama to control some settings on my phone, but the drainage was present before I installed Llama.
When you look at the first gap in WiFi usage you can see the phone disconnecting from my WiFi router at home (TP-Link TL-WR1043ND) when Llama disabled my WiFi.
About 20 minutes later, when I arrived at the office, Llama reactivates WiFi and my phone connects to our WiFi access point at the office (TP-Link TL-WA801ND).
At this point Android OS usage goes up considerably and it won't stop, even if I disable the phone's WiFi.
Actually at the second, larger gap in WiFi usage I disabled the WiFi connection manually which caused my phone to stay awake until I activate WiFi again.
Edit: Using Titanium Backup I have frozen Wifi-Sharing and the Wifi Manager.
Apart from that, Wifi usage was never an issue on my old Milestone, where I had Wifi enabled permanently and the battery lasted for 4-5 days.
I'd be glad to provide more information if that could help figure out the cause of AOS's battery usage.
My phone is currently running:
PDA: N7000XXKK9
PHONE: N7000XXKK5
CSC: N7000OXAKK9
I installed FM-Kernel 1.4, hoping it would fix this issue. It did for a day or so...
Apart from the kernel it's the newest 2.3.6 stock ROM I received via FOTA though.

I easily get a good day out of mine with quite a bit of use. If use mine lightly I can get 2 days out of mine. If you are in need of urgent 3G switch 3G off to GSM to conserve battery life.

Sorry, I forgot to include it in my post.
Since I got the phone I have it set to 2G only, because I used up my monthly quota and am getting throttled to GPRS speeds anyway. So the 3G connection isn't the issue either.
Apart from that this happens in flight mode as well.

Try not doing that.
Looks like you have no 4G where you are... make sure you are set to CDMA only in the network settings.
My battery seems to suck a little bit, too. On the drive in to work this morning, a 1 hour commute, my bionic sat on the seat next to me without being used. It still managed to chomp through 20% of the battery. So, basically at that rate, I'll get 5 hours of standby. Wonder if something is wrong?
Bluetooth (which seems to be a battery hog) was off, wifi was off... not sure what to do other than swap the battery with a replacement.
install system panel, turn on monitoring for everything, use that to determine how much cpu useage apps are using.
if you have an app(s) that are using near 100% cpu useage 24x7 that would happen
I have had the phone since 9am yesterday and have not been impressed with the battery so far. Today was the first full charge and I am at 60% after 2.5hrs. Most of my power consumption has been "Cell Standby" and not the screen which I would normally see.

Thanks! Will give it a try and report back. I hope I can get this resolved.
UPDATE: Installed System Panel and ran it for a couple days. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary. I let the phone discharge completely and then charged it completely before turning it back on. I got about 26 hours of moderate use before it needed to be charged again. Slightly heavier use got me to about 15 hours. There doesn't appear to be anything wrong, and the battery is light-years better than that of my old Eris. So I'm happy!
I'm actually getting pretty good battery life.. I use wifi when im home and at the office. With moderate to heavy use I didn't need to charge my phone until at least 18 hours. I know most say its not necessary, but I have a habit of fully charging my phone prior to first use and allowing it to drain completely before recharging.. perhaps that helped..
My battery has been doing great so far. Been using it a lot today and I'm at 45 percent after 8 hours of use. In me experience, it takes a few full charges before a battery gets fully calibrated. I've read that elsewhere as well. I've been very satisfied so far with battery life. I keep it on wifi at home and work so that probably helps alot.
I would say do a few discharge/full charge cycles on the phone first. Give it a few days to calibrate properly.
Also custom ROM's should help to remove undoubtable bloat that this phone comes with.

No 4G here either, didn't think to change that. Thanks! One additional question about the battery. I have a battery widget that displays the % remaining. I noticed that it drops in 10% increments instead of 1% like it used to on my Eris. I also checked About Phone > Status > Battery level and it seemed to decrease in 10% increments there as well. Is this normal with the Bionic? Or is something wrong with mine?
Has anyone else noticed this?
mine seems to be dropping by 10% as well, but my usage has been fairly good. Much better yesterday than today. Should know better if a day or two.
Task killers are bad since Froyo (2.2). Android actively manages applications and shuts them down when space is needed. Your task killed just winds up arm-wrestling with the OS, making both work overtime and not accomplishing a thing. Let the OS do what it's designed to do.
For those of you just starting with 4G, if you live in a non-4G area or are on the border where 4G and 3G constantly swap out, this will play hell on your battery, so turn 4G off unless you're in a place to take advantage of it.
Pentile screens are power sippers, so don't be surprised if your screen % is lower than normal.
I may be wrong, but I don't believe dual-core processors consume too much more power than single cores under normal circumstances.
Turn off bluetooth, satellite and wifi when not in use, and especially when unavailable. Leaving wifi up when you're away from home can chew up a lot of power as the phone is constantly seeking a signal.
Putting the screen on auto brightness may save some power. Also setting the screen time-out to a reasonable time will help.
Make sure you don't have a dozen accounts like Facebook, Gmail, Yahoo and Twitter checking for updates constantly.
You don't have to train lithium ion batteries like we used to with nickle-cadium back in the day, but your battery has some simple logic in it that takes care of housekeeping. When you first get it, and about once a month after, you should drain your phone's battery completely and then charge it back up. This helps the battery, and therefore the phone, understand how much power is left with greater accuracy. If you'd like to research this subject, I suggest Battery University and Apple.
I am having horrible battery issues now, my battery is not lasting 6 hours with very light usage.
right now my usages shows
Battery 15%
4h 56m 21s on battery
media 46%
cell standby 24%
phone idle 21%
voice calls 5%
display 4%
social location2%
this is the first time i have seen media at the top of the list, usually it is cell standby that has been using the most
this has been going on since saturday, i have two batteries and it does this on both, i figure it must be an app i loaded. i dont think i have loaded anything that i didnt use on my OGDroid but one of them must be disagreeing with the Bionic. i am planning and doing a factory reset tonight (as much as i hate doing it)
any other ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

This is a 4G pitfall. You're probably going in and out of 4G/3G coverage... it may seem like a lot, but when your phone is constantly looking for 4G the battery goes QUICK. Your best bet? Turn on 3G only (cdma only) when you drive. There are widgets in the market that will take you directly to the setting.

so I did a hard reset and sent my phone back to factory default :-( and let it sit for a few hours with nothing on it except for juice plotter so i could monitor it and it was still pretty crappy I then removed everything i had copied from both SD cards (ie. photos, music and movies from my OGDroid) and let it sit for a few more hours and the batterylife improved dramatically, I am guessing there is an indexing service or a DRM service of some sort that is part of MOTOBLUR and it must have been continually hitting my cards.
today the battery life is back to normal. i have installed just a few things like friendcaster adwlauncher and a few others that i normally have and have used the phone moderately for the last 3 hours and it appears i might get another 10 - 12 hours outta of it..
does anyone know why i had issues when i put the media from my old phone onto my new one, do photos and videos have to be in a specific directory or on one of the two cards specifically??
any help would be appreciated.

Omg the battery life sucks so much, is there anything I could do to fix this, its terrible... Like I would fully charge it then use it for 5 minutes and it will drain to about 5-6%

You've gotta be a bit more specific than that. Exaggeration prevents us from helping you.
A few basic questions:
What ROM are you on?
Describe your "us[ing] it for 5 minutes".
Take a screenshot of your battery use screen and post it here or something (both the expanded graph and the app list would be good enough).

Do you have GPS, Wifi, Bluetooth, Brightness maxed out, Downloading multiple things at once while playing multiple games or something?
Have you tried recalibrating your battery?
i have experienced amazing battery life on my Vivid, running Rum Float Beta 1, I can browse the web, play store, and download a few things over the course of two hours and my battery MIGHT drop down to 97% at the ,most.
Calibrated my battery stats though and let it fully cycle a few times.
just in case you don't know how.
Step 1: Let battery get VERY low.
Step 2: Boot into CWM Recovery.
Step 3: Clear battery stats (Advanced Settings > Clear Battery Stats)
Step 4: Reboot device.
Step 5: Let battery die fully.
Step 6: Plug in, do NOT turn on until FULLY charged.
Step 7: Before turning it on, boot into recovery and clear your battery stats once more.
Step 8: Use phone as normal, until battery gets critically low.
Step 9: Mercilessly kill your battery. Charge w/o turning it on again.
Step 10: When fully charged you may turn it on normally and resume regular usage.
That should help a bit with your battery issues. I know mine was dying pretty easily before I did the above.

Im still looking for ways to extend the battery even further.

Yes it is but i don't get near that with heavy use or if i get alot of email's etc.
At 14 hours today its down to 14% right now.Loading webpages and facebook really drains it quick.Plus watching videos.I wish there was a way to disable the led i think this would help greatly.I have all the notification flash settings off for everything but it still flashes when i get an email or missed call.
I managed to get even more time on one charge.Used the phone on WIFI most of the time during this charge and it seemed to do even better.
One Day One Hour & Seven Minutes with 14% left
On stock battery I struggle to get 6 hours.
However, this weekend I was able to get 16 HOURS!
What was the difference? This weekend I was on vacation. I talked much less on it and I was out of 4G area.
All the tweaking with screen brightness, data connections, CPU speed all make a small difference in comparison to voice.
Look at battery screenshots of people with long battery life. They don't talk on the phone. If you want good battery life,
get a bigger battery. Motorola gets it.... they doubled the size of their Razr Maxx battery. You'll see more of these 3000mah+ battery phones in the future.

The issue is the battery size is absolutely ridiculous. Why in gods name they put such a small battery on an lte phone is beyond me. And alot of other htc phones at least have a name brand extended battery where you can still get a case. Me personally I have an aftermarket second battery and external charger as well as an external battery but it gets old. I'm not that bad but I probably if I'm lucky get 8 hours a charge. I really think ultimately its why I might look for something else when I get caught up financially, probably a nexus.
I just got better battery stats in hopes I can locate the source of the problem

I'm getting 12-14 hours with my regular use. I have data/wifi always on, screen brightness is half way, and I'm happy with my battery life.

he said he has it on half way...
anyways...i get 13-15 hours with 20% left
I leave my screen brightness on auto
WiFi and Data is always on (i live in an LTE area too...so im almost always connected to LTE)
I leave accounts and Sync on
i get anywhere between 3-4 and a half hours of screen on time
My bro has the same phone...he gets about 8 hours of battery life, with about 1-2 hours of screen on time...we both have the same exact setup...
get the wcx illuminati rom.. the battery life gets increased by a ton. :victory: the only problem is you have to sign up and have ten posts before being able to download

[Q] Weird "battery drain" when lightly using the phone

Hello !
I just bought my P880 two days ago and everything is great except one thing: battery drain. It is not occouring in background when phone is in Deep sleep, it doesn't lose charge while it's sleeping, but when I just unlock it/start using it, it just starts draining.
I have rooted it, and unrooted using SuperSU. The thing is I haven't experienced that kind of drain yesterday, it was working fine except drain caused by bad signal (badly inserted SIM).
Usage by Android System is at 50% over 5 hours, Screen is at 9%. Awake graphs are the same as Screen on graphs- no wakelocks.
I have these apps installed:
Prey Anti Theft
Skype (not running)
Adobe Reader
SoundHound
Disco Light
QR Droid
Sygic (not running)
X-plore
SwiftKey 3 keyboard
WiFi, GPS, Data, everything turned off except mobile signal
Running Internation version with Android 4.0.3, Kernel 2.6.39.4-00001-g0f9182c
Mobile network type is EDGE:2 with mobile signal -70dBm
I'm first time android user and this is my first problem so I tried to include as much info as possible.
Thanks in advance
I see 2 mayor issues, first is the android deft app, it may be running and trying to sync but bcz the data is off it will try to connect foreva.
Also, edge is (in other words) ROAMING and this forces the antenna to use more power to get signal from another provider, it get worst if you have a phone with sim card.

Thanks for pointing that out, but I have disabled every sync and I have set phone to 2G mode only, the reason is that UMTS signal was low and was draining battery even more.
I am only losing sharge when just doing random things on phone, even if that means only adding/removing widgets/apps on main screen with WiFi off.
Then you must try the Deodexed version of v10f, removing the bloatware with the script in the same thread.
The issue may be some lg apps that are running in the background so doing this will have 6 hours in standby time with 100% still, like me (if I turn all radios off ).
I have just woken up, while sleeping (9h) phone was awake for about 50%, no wakelocks but there were 30 alarms from Android/Google maps ans 29 alarms from com.google.android.gsf
Hope this helps.
I may try custom ROMs if nothing else works.
While typing this message I have lost 7%.
Similar state here as the OP. Got the phone two days ago.
All is good, it rooted OK, Directory Bind works fine, phone runs like hell (about 10 times faster than my old Galaxy S) BUT it drains battery like a genuine power guzzler.
Ok I get that according to the performance you get, it comes with an accordingly high power draw, so I don't ***** about it, I just want to know if this is normal. I mean I played 2 hours and 15 minutes of Sprinkle and the battery died, starting from a full charge. Screen was set at 50%.
GPS is off, Bluetooth is off, no 3G mobile network and screen is at 50% brightness as I said. There's an NFC icon on the notification bar next to the battery icon, which I am not sure if it should be there.
Here are a couple of shots from the battery section of the phone and from Battery monitor widget if these help.

Please note that as the OP said, the phone consumes nearly nothing when idling. Firmware is 10f.
PS I am not trying to hijack the OP's thread. I just noticed the same behavior and I'd like some help on the same matter, as well as to contribute in whatever way I can. If the OP is offended somehow, I will gladly start a new thread.
@psolord No, not offended at all. I'm glad you posted actually.
My phone has encountered 20 more Alarms, wake ups since I left it standing:
com.google.android.apps.maps Wakeups: 50
com.google.android.gsf Wakeups: 45
You can see pictures below, the drop on the second picture happened when I was writing me previous post from P880.
- I am also rooted again (after factory restore)
- I have reenabled 3G networks but the signal is only at about 50%.
Any additional info please ?
Ok buddy, so we can keep discussing it here together.
For the matter at hand, I see the same behavior, when I unlock the screen, it's like I have opened a whole in the battery.
It dropped from 85% to 65% just from downloading a new map (500MB, 20min download on a slow wifi) from Sygic downloader. I mean this can't be right, right?
I also checked cpu spy and it reports the system 75% at deep idle, 15% at 51Mhz and the rest are 0% to 1% up to 1500Mhz. So if the cpu has so little operation, what on earth is draining the battery?
I wonder if we could be looking at a bad battery batch.
Is there an app that reports exactly what activity consumes power and how much?
Indeed, the hole in the battery.
I even restored to factory from recovery mode since I screwed up the root, so it was just stock, but guess what, nothing has changed :crying:
I really hope this can get fixed, else I'll get a replacement.
I hope someone from this forum with more experience can help :/
I think I am onto something.
Can you please check how is the phone doing if you disable everything under location and services?

I am going to try this, I am also talking to LG Support right now. WIll let you know when I get more information.
I disabled everything, and I didn't see pretty much any improvement. LG Support suggested me to return the phone.
Pretty much draining the battery atm so I can charge it back to 100% and use something like Battery Calibration. Maybe it can change something.
Yeah indeed I was onto nothing. Nothing changed for me either.
Playing 30mins of a 720P resulted my battery dropping from 62% to 50%. I also used the gps for the first time with Sygic (Jesus even the GPS is lightning fast) and the battery went from 50% to 30% for a 20 minute ride. It seems that my phone cannot give me more than 2 hours of use. That's just silly.
BTW do you or anybody, know of an app that can show battery usage per app?

Stock application ?
Also you can use Better Battery Stats to see if there are any wakelocks or anything is waking up the phone etc.
What is happening right now is rather strange, I disabled screen turning off (trying to drain battery to 1%/2%) looking at stock battery app, it seems to be stuck at 21% and it's not changing.
The stock application does not do so much analysis, but the batterystats you used above seems more like it.
I am getting panicked and I miss some stuff haha. Ok lets cool.
It makes me sad that we don't get any input from the community. Something like "yeah this is normal, live with it" or "your phone is faulty, take it back to the shop for a replacement" or something.
Agreed, ANY, ANY kind of input would be appreciated, but I guess we are getting none.
I am going to fully charge it today, do some stuff and report back tommorow. Also anyone, please do post any suggestion you may have.

Maybe this has to do something with the built in power saver. Maybe it kicks in when the battery drops to the 20s and stops whatever is draining it.
I am thinking trying some battery saver to see if it does the same thing but from the beginning of the full charge.

Actually I have disabled it when it asked me if it should turn on. So I guess nothing to do with that.
I am going to backup now, fully unroot and somehow get it to pure stock. Than I'm probably going to exchange the phone in case battery life doesn't change.

The Sony Xperia SP, A heartbreaker Smartphone

Hi, I bought this phone a month ago, I bought that actually looked like a very good phone, analyze their characteristics, not only its design, and discard the possibility of buying the Samsung S3 Mini, I think it was a mistake :crying:
This Xperia SP is really a headache, the first thing I knew I was bad at was his poor WiFi, later learned of the problem of the screen, which to place the phone on a flat surface the touch becomes useless (I is how to fix it), and now the battery, then I have seen pictures that the battery will last up to 2 days, I was never happened in 14 hours, or when you use it the first time, now active or inactive so I Sstamina gives up to 7 hours, which sucks .
Originally came with compiling 12.0.A.1.257 and decided to upgrade to the 12.0.A.2.245 to see if suddenly improved, big mistake, the 2245 presents many problems in the stability of the OS, the screen flashes when using certain applications , Stamina mode is "Arrangement" a bit, as the cell I last up to 12 hours, but it's all over.
In conclusion I am determined to get rid of this phone, and all who ask for me, I gonna Scream, NEVER BUY THAT MTF CELL, which by the way is a bit expensive for the problems to come.
Sorry, my english is not very good :silly:

To be honest with you- the WiFi does suck on the sp, even though there are many fixes none of which will work 100% . Ive come across alot of problems with my sp also, keyboard wont pop up, walkman crashes when using certain apps. But on the plus note there is deffo an upside to the sp compared to most other mid range smart phones out there.
I have smashed my screen on my sp and have no warrenty- so im switching over to a s3 mini, simply because a new white digitiser for my phone would cost me £135.
Play around with your phone first see if you can make any good of it before you sell up

Americans ("People who live in the USA") use the term "Lemon". A lemon is a car, often new, that is found to be defective only after it has been bought. Maybe you bought a Lemon. My SP gets good battery life, about 7 hours of heavy use. Join us at a Spanish forum at http://www.htcmania.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1082

Whats your screen on time? Also ho do you use your phone? Heavy gaming or light texting only?
Things will always matter when you want to compare battery life. So give us more details. Install Wakelock detector or BetterBatteryStats to know what is eating up the battery on your phone and then work on eliminating the factor. Cheers man!

I do not play much, texting, only play when I'm charging the phone, cut the rope and Diamon Dash.
In the images shows that the battery is low 2% in 29 minutes
Ok, i do it, the result from battery stats plus.
After it, I think do a factory reset, to see how it behaves.

I think you should. Your Android OS is using too much battery. Hit on it and check which process is using the maximum battery.
Once you've charged your battery to 100%, go to Apps, All, and look for eco mode controller. Click on force stop and after 5 seconds or so, clear data. Then reboot your phone and use it normally. Check out my best battery life so far (attached images)

Battery life not quite as good as I hoped
The battery life on my xperia SP is not bad but it is no better than my previous xperia neo which had only a 1500mah battery versus 2370mah.
Many reviewers have commented that they can get through 2 days.
I can only make 1 and a bit. The key problem appears to be the screen. I can use the screen for about 4 hours/day before I'm out of juice, some reviewers claim 7 hours. Thats a big difference. Using it outside of the time is always going to be worse but screen on time is a bit disappointing for me. Stamina with screen off seems reasonable but again not outstanding. I lost 13% between the morning and lunchtime without doing anything but 15 minute syncing, I use a battery saver, not stamina mode as I don't want to shut down all my apps and have no data at all when screen is off.
Phone is only 2 weeks old, can I recalibrate the battery? Seems to stay on 1% for a while too. On the contrary, my wifi reception is really good. Better than any other phone I've had.

Yes you can, but you need to root your phone. Some people say its useless to do It, but you can try.

Battery life on standby is perfectly good for me – a few people have said that the estimate Stamina mode gives is based on recent usage. So if you haven’t had the device very long of have just had a big session on your phone the estimate might not be very accurate.
Most mornings the battery is 0, 1 or 2% down on the reading before I went to sleep…deep sleep is being enforced.
However, I don’t think the battery consumption with screen on is anything special – not bad, not exceptional.
It’s a really good phone IMO. I admit WiFi seems badly implemented and you shouldn’t need the tweak which seems to fix it for most rooted users (all manufacturers seem to still release phones with Wifi problems). But with this tweak in place I get better wifi than my old xperia (it had a custom kernel that gave it awesome range) and better than my wife’s Samsung S2. There’s a part of my house where we couldn’t get any signal for my old phone or laptops – amazingly the SP can connect!

My C5303 drained battery like hell, with less than 5 minutes on screen time, it drained 2% per hour.
bluetooth, nfc, wifi, data disabled( sim card does not have data), mobile network wcdma or gsm only
stock .245 generic RU rom rooted with bbs installed,
top of the list wakelock : superstamina xssm (nobody in this forum can fix it)
battery drains : cell standby and phone idle
already factory reset over 5 times, nothing works
is it a rom problem? app problem? simcard problem or battery calibrating problem?
really need some advice here, had been stuck with this ****ty battery life for 2 motnhs

I think that is a problem in the OS of the SP, as put or dimly lit screen this will still consume battery as much lighting.
In my case the problem was corrected a bit, I deleted widgets, some app that did not use, the antivirus was always eating, I set to use 3G only when I need it, otherwise I'm on 2g most of the time, not game unless it is connected to the charger, WiFi and GPS only when I need them, listen to music and write a little and this we see is the result, compared to what it was prior is something a little encouragement ...(Attached)
But, why have a midrange phone if you will not be able to use to stop because two hours is dead? the Sony need to fix that big waste of battery.
I will continue to see what happens, disconcerted me the Android OS consumes much battery 45% to 52% long
Please, helpme whit this, why there are applications that I am using, or have not opened, but are consuming battery?, How do I prevent them from running without my wants? any program to control the apps that connect to the internet?

In the images posted I can see Mcafee and Lookout. I would suggest removing Mcafee as I have found it to be a resource hog, my opinion though. Either way u need to get rid of one of them.
In another image I noticed wifi is always on. Go to Settings -> Wifi -> menu, advanced -> Keep wifi on only when connected to charger one. That will reduce wifi wake usage.
get Juicedefenderfrom HERE OR
Snapdragon BatteryGuru from Here
If using Juice defender, set to balanced/aggressive.
If using Viber, go into viber -> more options -> settings -> wifi sleep policy -> change to use device settings not always on.
Zero the battery and do a full charge. Post updated screens when battery is under 30% ( Please include the MISC Usage screen from BBS). I expect it will be 2 days before we see those screens.
If you can even post a screen of the Misc usage from BBS just now and we`ll compare it with the next one soon.
I use JD (gives me a 1.5x boost to battery) with Stamina Mode on (no low battery or wifi). I charge my phone on an average once in 2 days, medium.
I don't have any of those problems, the battery lasts very long, don't have any flat-surface problems, wifi catches at full signal on both my houses, never had "screen flashes", only some crashes in the youtube app.
Must be a PEBCAK error

Poor battery performance, what to do?

Hey guys, I'm wondering what can I do to improve my Note 8 battery life. Seems to me that is draining and I do not get the chance to use it too much. Maybe you have an idea how to optimize and track the apps are overusing the battery, so far I was not able to detect which app/component drains my battery. Even Samsung seems that doesn't know since there is no message regarding background processes with heavy usage.
Basically I finished fully charging at 9:15 AM and now 16:15PM time I started to write the post and make the screenshots, it has 16%. What I did all this time with the phone, was:
- a bit of browsing,
- make one NFC payment,
- have the S3 gear connected on bluetooth.
- few twitter messages and viber really small usage. (less than 40 messages overall)
So here are my settings
- WIFI is off and I'm using 3G connection (I stopped LTE thinking that requires more battery.. , correct me if I'm wrong please),
- screen not even on 50% and auto brightness off (using HD+ and a dark theme, everything is so dark!)
- AOD
- no led, no gestures (most of them I turn off for testing purpose)
- Medium battery saver on.
- No phone calls
- few notifications (not more than 20, also the notification is optimized to apps I'm concerned)
Any suggestion how to make it to end of working day .. at least?
I was waiting so long for a new note and now I'm a bit disappointed and I hope that is something I do wrong..
Funny is I just realized that by mistake I put the phone on airplane mode while making the screenshots, still percentage was flying away even like this. I lost 2% making screenshots in a matter of couple of minutes.
Please find the screenshots attached in the link down bellow, were to big to add them to the post.

you might have some apps draining battery. I'm used to a rooted phone, so I'd always check with wakelock detector, but I'm not sure what you can do without installing an app as a system app.
Try factory resetting your phone and using it without installing anything for a day and see what the battery life is like. If it's significantly better, install your apps 1 by 1 until you find out which one is causing unnecessary cpu cycles or wakelocks.

But I wonder, I shouldn't see the heavy usage on the battery info page? Like which app does most of the usage and time spend in the background or CPU?
I had excessive battery drain, about 10-11% an hour with every off . A full factory reset cured the problem.
What's your screen on time usage? 5-6 is probably the normal amount you would get with most phones (This is the most important thing if nothings draining the battery). And yes, it seems you might need a factory reset.

You won't always see this as it could be a byproduct causing a kernel wakelock.
Either way, something is acting incorrectly. The only way to really figure it out is to start over and try things slowly till you find out what it is.
For instance, on my nvidia shield tablet k-1, I was getting horrendous battery life on every single rom, stock or AOSP/Lineage. I found that I was getting 30% wakelock killing ~20% battery life per day when it should be sub 5%. I found that wifi was causing these kernel wakelocks and setting wifi to be disabled with the screen off unless charging fixed the issue entirely.
Now, that anecdote likely has nothing to do with what you're experiencing, but note that you can usually find out what's wrong from trial and error.
I've had my note 8 for 6 days now, and battery life is excellent, i mean i have wi-fi and 4g lte on all the time, bluetooth on all the time, sync with 3 emails, Facebook, weather widget, weather screen refresh every 30mins, location high accuracy, edge lighting, aod schedule 7pm-7am, was 100% at 6am, played games on it lots, used the phone 2x, 1 hour call and a 30 mins call, text messages, it's 130pm and I'm at 55%, try a factory reset then log in to your gmail then just try to update the phone if there is any. Then reboot then start installing your apps. If it doesn't work call carrier customer service and complain about the battery not holding up like some people you know who has note 8. They might replace it with a new one.

Phone died 15-20 minutes after I did the screenshots, so a bit more than 2 hours...
So.. yeah.. I will try a factory reset and start install all the apps bit by bit and see which one causes the troubles.. hopefully is nothing more than that.
Did you restore a backup or did you load your apps fresh from the play store?
I've had horrible luck with issues like battery life restoring from backups. I always install apps fresh.

can you translate "not great" in hours? Because I will say that mine is second after horrible.. with update done.
I will start the reset in a short while and I will test it tomorrow with minimum apps installed.. those which I really must have in a working day..
Maximum 5 hrs on wifi normally about 3-4 battery is not great on note yet....some optimalization would be nice
I use Ampere to monitor the instan drain of current. In a quiet situation (screen on, internet or tapatalk browsing, gear connected, wifi and data turned on) you should have something 200 mA drain.

Maybe some of the settings changes you're making are somehow rendering your phone less efficient.
I have the USA unlocked version and use it as it came without changing to a dark theme or turning anything off and the battery life is much better than yours.

I restored from a helium backup. My battery life wasn't good for about a week but it did last all day down to 20-30% at the end of the day. After a week it has improved maybe due to apps updating. Now I'm at 70-80% at the end of the day with moderate use. I have disabled several apps I didn't need as well.
Seems like it's hit or miss with the battery life. I see a lot of people happy and some are having problems. Hopefully Samsung might push a update to help.
Get cpu spy and verify that your devoce is going into deep sleep when off(mine wasnt at first until i froze/removed some rouge apps). Install accubattery and do a benchmark and see how your battery does. At least do 6 discharge cycles first to see an average. Also, in device maintenance, you can make all apps doze when not being used now.. this is a new feature. Add all of your apps and they get put to sleep immediately. I get 8 hours SOT this way

You dont have to use med battery saver either, just read my reply on this thread and you will be good. You may have to experiment a little to get your device to go into deep sleep when screen off. Mine didnt at first. Its on my other comment

I got back from work and my phone was at 75% that's between 9:30am and 6:30 pm. So my battery life is pretty good. I lose about 5% overnight.
I average 7hrs screen time Got 8hrs yesterday
