[Q] New to HD7. Upgrade advice please - HD7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all
I have just got a HD7 from Ebay. It has not yet been upgraded to Mango so is on the original V1 SPL. I think I am correct in saying that if I upgrade to Mango the SPL will go to 5 and I will not be able to install custom roms.
Currently I do not want to install custom roms but may do in the future.
I want to be able to have Mango fully unlock so I can sideload apps etc but still leave my SPL in a state that I can install cutom ROMS later.
Can this be achieved and if so what steps do I take?
Thank you in advance.

tutorial here.
should also answer other questions.

mango and spl update are 2 different things .
U can upgrade to mango in Zune but stop when u see "HTC update" . This HTC update is the spl update and is the last step in Zune.

I have now flashed Nextgen+ but redlaser does not appear to work.
What I really want is a close to stock Mango ROM with no changes except FULL UNLOCK.
Is there a way I can get this?

Most custom roms are almost the same thing as stock rooms, with different themes and colours
Just that they come with bugs , if any.

Yes I wanted to avoid bugs. All I need is stock mango with full unlock. Adding all this extra stuff just increases the chance of errors.
Is there a mango custom rom without any extras just full unlock?

The bugs are with the extra stuff added .the stock functions should work fine.

Problems/Stock ROMs

Just a couple of quick questions, have searched but couldn't find an answer.
Firstly, have been having a few problems with a lot of the custom ROMs I've been using recently, they usually work well for a while, then start going wrong. I've heard you're meant to flash a stock ROM in between each custom one, was wondering if that's true, as I've never seen it written anywhere. I flash using USPL if it matters. Currently using Dutty's Leo R5, which has also just started going wrong for me.
Also out of interest, how would I go about flashing a stock ROM? Same process as normal? And where would I be able to get the latest one from?
Cheers for any help.

I've never once flashed back to a stock rom in-between custom roms (and I've tried a few) .
But I have also heard that it works for some people having issues with flashing. If you are using uspl, then your stock spl is still intact and you should just be able to flash back to a stock rom (AFAIK in any case - sorry you can see I use hspl)
You can find many of the shipped roms (stock) here
Depending on the rom you choose and your current spl you may get the blue/green screen after the flash, but that would only be due to a rom/spl mismatch.
Thanks for the help, gonna flash a stable ROM for the next few days I think. Just one other thing I've been thinking of, I've got SPL 1.54 showing up in bootloader mode. You know if that's still the one you're supposed to use? Not sure if it should be 1.56?

Is it still 1.54.0000? This is actually an updated stock spl which you loaded when using uspl, so you should be able to just flash one of the later version stock roms. There is no need to downgrade your spl to your original (unless of course you need to return your phone for service)
1.56 is only as a result of using hspl and AFAIK there is no stock 1.56 version.

Ah that's alright then, yeah it is still 1.54.0000. I'd just seen something about SPL 1.56 mentioned, so I wondered if there was a newer version of that stock spl. I'll find another ROM to flash for now, seems like I've been doing everything right. Thanks again for your help.

Flashing back to stock ROM worked for me, my spl has bee upgraded since i started flashing (first one was Dutty 3.9XT). This solved many of my problems encountered flashing the latest Win 6.5 + Manila 2.5 ROMS.

What stock ROM have you been using? I've only been having problems with 6.5 roms, 3.9xt was the only one I've used so far that's worked flawlessly.

Fortunatly we are dealing with a form of Windows and as in any windows there is not so much difference. This means that it is silly to think that the same windows OS u installed is running as well or the same as to when u first installed it. We have to MAINTAIN it....
Think of ur phone rom as if it were a windows version on a regular PC. What happens after a few weeks is that it gets cluttered with unnused registry keys (even from installing and uninstalling apps), cache files, temp files and all other junk that gets installed by default. This means that u as a user have to clean it once in a while to get get rid of all this stuff that is going to make ur windows and thus ur phone slow after a while. Fortunatly there is help for us to do so. I use Pocket Mechanic and SKTools for this reason. Another thing is that u can look at the windows startup folder to see what is started. The less it is starting the faster and snappier ur phone will be..
I think it is also silly to think that u have to reflash a new rom every other day. I only flash a new rom if i see some major upgrades in the new one.
I hope this helps some...

All true, but some of us have this strange addiction that needs to be satisfied regularly....

Hallos ClydeB1,
If u enjoy flashing 4 roms a day to see if one or other rom will run better go right ahead, that seem to be a hobby in itself for some people. If thats is doing any good to you or ur HD ? Doubtfull but who am i to judge...
I just said that things don't have to go bad after a period of time becouse it doesn't have to be that way, u are the boss and not ur windows OS.

How to really flash something and how to get latest official updates

Hey, i have a t-mobile g1 and i can't find any official updates and i can't flash any spl or radio because it says they are not signed, how do i fix that? i want the latest official radio rom, latest spl and latest official android. Can somebody please help me!?
Un-root and wait for the OTA updates.
Well, i want to find a place like for htc dream where is a a ruu installer to update everything to latest, don,t care how but to get one of the latest nbh to write it. Not even official files from ota don't work. why isnt there a image like an nbh with a fully up to date? (
Why would you want OTA's when xda will have rooted versions that are faster?
Make sure you flash the SPL and radio after having a modded recovery first...
Well, thank you, now i found the originals, and now only trying to hard spl with the latest spl and of course putting eclair on it, if i manage to do hardspl, i am on win 7 x64 to and this makes everything weirder, on win mo i even make apps but this is my first android phone and trying to understand and manage fast everything, in a couple of hours i want a good rom

[Q] I need help on a specific rom. thanks

I have an unbranded HTC HD7, official unbranded. But I already updated post NoDo, 7392. Due to this, I can't jailbreak my phone using chevron wp7.
These are my questions:
1. What official rom should I flash to make my hd7 like it was on pre-NoDo?
2. In any case I feel I didn't like the flash. Could I always revert back?
( In relation to Sony Ericsson, when I didn't like the cooked rom I used, I always revert it back using SEUS. Somehow, can I do this on htc? I know htc has no update service of some sort. )
Thanks

or any original HTC rom.
Thanks!
uhm in case I don't like it, how do I get back to the original one? I mean, how would I know if the one I got even if it is original rom, would be the same as my current rom?
Thanks!

I'm actually curious about this as well.
I know there are some modified ROMs in the dev section, but aren't they all two-part installs (with an expected error on the first)?
Basically at this point, since we don't have HSPL, is any ROM that flashes (in one flash) without error guaranteed to be official? Is there another verification method?

[Q] Installing Custom Roms

I had a Palm Pre and was used to Preware for custom roms. Now I have an HD7 and want to install the Next Gen custom Rom. I have no idea on how to do that on these phones. I have done roms on my old Samsung Intercept Android and Palm Pre-.
Can anyone give me a quick run down on the method of madness of doing this.
Thanks in advance.

The very first thing you should need to do is flashing hspl or rspl to your device! follow this link and follow properly the instructions as it is.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1295068
enjoy
So the bootloader needs to be rolled back to NoDo and try and recover it in Zune when it seems that it doesnt work for alot of people. Mango works great. I dont think this is worth bricking my phone when it is great already.
Bootloader only needs to be rolled back if it is 5.xx. If it is 3.xx or even 1.xx, just enter bootloader mode and flash RSPL, I recommend flashing HSPL immediately there after. Then all you need to do is enter bootloader mode to flash new Rom's.

[SOLVED] How do I go back to NoDo?

Hi Guys,
Im currently in deepshining rom. unfortunately, all 7.5 roms are messing up my phone as it random restarts every time it's stressed a bit. like running 2 apps at a time. my bootloader is 3.xxx hspl. how do I go back to stock? nodo or any 7.0 rom.
thanks!
I've heard a couple people say that they've had the same problem with Deepshining rom, I personally haven't had that problem at all, one of the lucky ones I guess!
This is a list of the shipped oem roms
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/HTC_HD7/Shipped_Roms
Once you go back to a shipped rom it changes your hspl back to spl, like factory original device. Have you tried nextgen or instrinic rom? I would recommend trying one of theses or both before reverting back to oem!
I haven't tried either one personally but hear nothing but good things about them being fast and light!
If you found this helpful please click the thank you button!
thanks man, you definitely said the words that I needed. anywho.. I tried some of the roms already however, I think it has something to do with 7.5 roms. I guess I'll be stuck with 7.0 below. nevertheless thanks for the help!
Well keep an eye out for updates on the custom roms, they might better support your device in future releases...with that said when you revert back to oem and update through Zune you can stop the update after mango before the last update which is HTC, that update upgrades your boatloader spl to 5.xxx or higher, then if you decide to go back to a custom rom you can just follow shadows tutorial again without having to do the goldcard method, unless you already have the set up for it!
If you found this helpful please click the thank you button!
alright. I was about to ask about avoiding goldcard. lol. thanks a lot man. you have been a great help. how do I change this post to [SOLVED] ?
Your welcome man... Glad I could be of help!! To change it to solved just click on go advanced, next to the edit post button and click solved. Did you revert back to oem shipped rom yet?
