Onecosmic's ICS Port RC3 is up for i9000/b and vibrant and cappy will be very soon. - Vibrant Android Development

Code is back up, we're hosting there again now. Grooby's thread is not under control by us and anything he says/does is not condoned by onecosmic or his team.
We're up to rc3 now and the rom is much more stable than before, seems to be performing better and people are working on fixes for gps,it should be working soon. updates are on the google code pages here: http://code.google.com/p/ice-cream-sandwich-sgs/
The rom should now be flashable from anything, just wipe and flash.

Thanks, will give it a try

lol, hopefully someone is able to put up a new mirror for it.
xD
Seems like a very popular file.

CM t9 Dailer and cm launcher now as a flashable zip

I really don't understand the vibrant dev community. Or maybe it's just a problem with xda in general the the belief that every single dev here is on his own to create his own grand master ROM and screw the rest (besides the big names like Cyanogen and others).
But when there is another perfectly good ROM out there, that is under active development and has already solved many of the major problems with the current code, and then someone forks the code and essentially starts over, it is a real tragedy.
"onecosmic," please work with the devs in this thread to improve the ICS build that already has months of work put into it, instead of creating your own:

so you want onecosmic to stop working on the rom that allowed neo to even release ICS on the vibrant. Also he doenst have a vibrant, this rom is originally for the sgs and is ported over, hence why we need to flash another kernel. The problem with the vibrant community isnt the devs its the people like you that expect a rom that is 100 percent perfect and on top of that does your dishes and makes bacon
What you should do is go talk to neo about helping out with the rom instead of kanging cm and other applications. I swear his roms have more bloat on them then twiz.

Now that was uncalled for.
I understand that onecosmic was the first to build a functional ICS for the Galaxy S series, but that does not mean he has to be the only one. What's wrong with KANG'ing something? Neo isn't taking credit for anything, he's gave credit where credit was due.

I'm on neobuddy ics can i flash firs the rom and them the kernel or this rom uses a different partitions and i need to flash first the kernel reboot recovery flash rom/flash kernel and them reboot system

Passion v6 & v7 vs Onecosmic
What we want in this community is quality ROM's. No one has a monopoly on good ideas and we as users always benefit when we have more than one group working on competing ideas.
I tried and respect Neo's ICS Passion Roms. I've been using them since v5. v6 is a good daily ROM. v7 was too laggy for me.
Onecosmic's 4.0.3 ROM is much smoother. From the first boot. Brightness doesn't work. But everything else does.
For me, this demonstrates the value in alternatives.
Good work Onecosmic.

Try screen filter if you need to lower brightness

From my understanding, Neo's rom is still 2.X kernel while Onecosmic's is 3.X based. Different approaches I guess. Onecosmic is more than happy to help out with the Vibrant community, you just have to ask. I tried the latest and had an issue with the cpu staying on full blast and chewing up the battery so I went back to stock MIUI until he hammers a few other things out.

Nice way to turn a pretty thread in a flamewar, guys :/
Either way, does video recording works here?
And can I flash over Neo's ICS build or only over ICS?
I wish the OP was more informative...

So the OP says to first flash an ICS kernel.
Can I use the Vibrant ICS kernel here or do I use an i9000 one?

After installing this rom my phone will not reboot into recovery... is their a special way to get back into recovery?

Can anyone check if there mute/unmute issue present on this ROM ?

Anyone else have no service after flashing this?

My advice would be to start with something simple such as Darkys rom 9.5 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=814091, it is bug free and stable.
There is no best rom .But their are multiple posts asking the exact same question wasting XDA server bandwidth .

Advising a new user to flash CM7 right out of the box is like asking an art student to make a Faberge egg.
He might get lucky, but more likely he will just create a very expensive brick.

Read some of the threads in the development section and try some of them out.
Darkys ROM is a good place to start for simplicity, or you could do a bit of research and cook your own from the ROM kitchen.
The word "Best" is subjective as different people want different things from their phone.

I flashed CM7 by following this thread just a week after I bought my SGS, and I'm chinese.
Besides, you can always save your phone so long as you can enter "Downloading" screen.
No need to worry~
I was exactly in your situation a few days ago when I was looking to flash my first custom ROM, even Darky's looked a tad too complex to start with so I went for HamsterBread, simply download 3 files, flash 2 (one at a time) in Odin, and flash the third from recovery.
The only thing broken on it is the power widget but you can get a more powerful and configurable one from the market app widgetroid.
Here's the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=844514
i assume you are new to all of this custom ROM / hacking business.
i highly recommend you get your first custom ROM from www.romkitchen.org.
its so simple to make and you make it to suit YOUR NEEDS. great dev's lots of support, frequent updates.
The best place to start for newbies...
I red very good things about Cyanogen and MIUI. I'll try them first of all.
thanks yous. just wanted to make sure which ROM is safe

Lier. 99% of broken phones are CM7.
However DArky's being the MOST popular and merely aimed at idiots who need 1 click Flash (I was like that once) then it is easy to not troubleshoot lol.
Darkys 9.5 is undoubtably the best SGS i9000 ROM Hands down.
Use the starter pack for gb and then something simple and stable like Simply honey or StockRom, both use the same kernel which is excellent and install without issue.

Anybody willing to guide a newbie?

Hi everyone!
I'm looking to become a future dev of the Samsung Captivate Glide, but as we're awaiting the official ICS from AT&T the forum right now is pretty dead. We have a project going but nobody to guide us, and we wish to compile CM9 or AOSP ICS. Would anyone take me in and teach me the basics of ROMing? I would greatly appreciate it! I have a Mac and Windows, I'm not sure if Linux is required :|
~Aquethys
the rom is the least of the worries to get dev going on your phone, getting the kernel going is the hard part. does your phone have the source code released?
I don't believe so, people in our ics port thread are saying we don't have a working ics kernel. We do have a gingerbread kernel though... :/
How would I start?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I927R using xda premium
well you take parts from the GB kernel and apply it to parts from the AOSP kernel, and troubleshoot until it boots. then you troubleshoot all the other issues, there will be issues, then you can start doing fancy things like add cwm. then tweak the kernel....
start reading on kernels, ramdisk, rils, libs, and drivers, linux, compiling, AOSP, github repositories.
you might be ready to take on this task in 6 months.... minimum
dont take that as snooty, ive been on here over a year, and know jack squat about half the things i just told you to study. though i have no desire to build kernels myself. there is lots of great info scattered all over xda. but you will need an experienced dev, to port ICS. you need to know basic kernel modification stuff before trying to do something as big as porting a new android version from out your but.
automated compiling isnt as automated as it sounds.
Alright. What programs will I need to begin with? Hopefully an experienced dev can guide me, I'm not too good @ following guides/tutorials but I'll try my best!
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I927R using xda premium
EDIT: Made a dropbox account, hopefully you could guide me through the basics?
So, is this the source code for SGH-I927 you were talking about? I downloaded it, what do I do with it? Is it different for ICS and GB?

[Q] Comparing ICS ROMs

Hello everybody!
After long hesitations I just took the first step into this world last week by rooting my i9000 under Gingerbread 2.3.3.
I am now considering the idea of making the leap to ICS but while there are many threads where people ask "which ROM should I take?" and other answer "I'm using xxx and it's the best!" I can't find any discriminant reason.
Do you know whether there is a comparison table of the different ROMs' purposes, performances and features somewhere?
Thank you in advance!
Tiramislim rom works smoothly with semaphore with great battery life.... one more reason is that it is customizable with aroma installer
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA
I prefer ics333 2.0 with devil kernel 3. Its fast. functional and has good battery life......that's just my 2cents...guess you got to try out the roms...make use of cwm ... so you can backup/restore to your favorite rom.
Well, thank you both to have taken the trouble to reply, but that's exactly because of such statements that I've seen so many times and which can't help me in any way that I started this thread.
To reformulate my question:
What is the difference between CM9, MIUI, Tiramislim, ics333 and other roms? Did someone make a list of features or other comparison document so that it might be possible to make a choice or at least a shortlisting without having to take the risk and time of installing / testing / re-installing so many different roms?
Dude no one is going to help u to that extent.... try each and every rom for 4-5 days and find out your favourite rom... each and every rom in xda is good
sgs i9000 = god

[Q] GT-P1000... ICS or ... not ?

Hello everybody...
I have a Galaxy Tab P1000 working on 2.3.3 and CWM installed.
I want to go on ICS but, honnestly, I really don't know what to do
Cyanogen, AOKP, Overcome... :silly::silly:
So, what's the differences ? I'm reading, reading, reading... and it seems to be hard to understand what bring each mod instead of installing one (your tutorials are really easy to understand for a newbie like me).
I don't want a mod where something doesn't work. My tablet is working fine actually and I don't want to screw something so... what's the best ICS mod for a P1000 ?
Thanks for your advices (and sorry for my poor english )
Two major problems.
1) best rom thread isn't allowed in xda. Try them out and find out yourself.
2) there is a q&a subforum for questions (but not for best rom question)

I tend to disagree with your response priyana. He is not asking for the "best" rom, just the differences. My suggestion is to read the development thread for each and try them out for yourself.
The best way to work out the one for you is to dive in and try them out.

Well, if your are asking for stable roms, then cm 9.1 and aokp milestone 6 are the options. dont ask for best roms.
I agree with stimpz0r that this isn't a best ROM thread, the OP is just asking the differences between the types of ROM. As long as it stays that way and doesn't become a best ROM thread then it's fine to stay. Have moved to Q&A where it belongs.
In answer to the question, as tiresome as reading and testing can be, don't give up with the reading as it's the most important part of being on XDA as so much information is available. The 1st few posts of the development threads tend to give you an overview of what's included but the main ROM types you get will be:
Custom stock - based off official ROM's with tweaks
AOSP (Android Open Source Project) - based off Google source code
CM - which is a modified AOSP experience with customisations, bug fixes etc
AOKP (Android Open Kang Project) - similar to CM as uses lots of aspects of CM but offers far more customisation options for the user
Ahem... 1st post, 1st fault
I wasn't asking for the "best rom over all the others", but more for a little help to know what kind of rom I have to look for, really sorry for the mistake.
Usually, I try to learn by myself reading on forums or on the net, but the hard part with Android (at least for me) is that a rom can work with a device but not with another who has the same Android version :silly::silly::silly:. It's not like a video game console, a PS3 is a PS3, a Wii is a Wii, no major change between the 1st and the last serie.
Thanks for your answers. I'll keep reading , but this time I'll look toward CM and Aokp first .
We all learn by reading and you'll see in my post I was siding with you
The best part of this forum is how much you learn off other members and the like-minded people you get to talk to. We were all new once so once you pick up things slowly but surely you'll also be able to share what you've learned back with so many new users always joining :good:

I9010 Source code OR AOSP

I wanted to play around with my captivate armani version, and since I like features of custom roms and dont like camera driver phone , audience etc... and i don't like that my froyo is rly slow rly for some reason idk why, i did restore to stock fresh install with wipe everytihng still slow since android market went google play froyo laging as hell.
So as I'm enthusiast I wanna try to copile my own froyo from soruce ( http://opensource.samsung.com/ and i typed i search i9010) I got soruce, atm i don't even learn how to compile from source installing ubuntu on other machine atm, but I take a look insade files and It's look like this is just AOSP soruce code not samsung soruce code for i9010... sound rly strange to me.
So my questing basically is this samsung soruce for i9010 or aosp from google?
File is only 170mb so if some of dev have a time to download it and take a look i will be really grateful...
If' it's not samsung source i don't have with what to start
Pls any advice will be helpful...

But if anyone have idea about this source i will be really happy to start working

I will go trougth guides I already studied and i think i will be able to compile but only question is this samsung source.

I do think it's great you're trying to compile your on ROM but if you don't mind me asking, why Froyo? We're up to JB 4.2.1 now :silly:
Last stock for i9010 is froyo, and im begginer,
So i wanted to do next:
1st compile Froyo for i9010 to test if it work ( it would be as same as stock) to see if i can and have knowledge to do it and if its usable. Its easiest to test since its orginal one so without modding it should boot and work.
2nd compile GB for i897 with small modification to work on i9010 if any is even required ( to use component from i9010 code if needed)
3d step is to try port from some similar hardware device witch have stock JB to I9010.
I like stock look even stock froyo vs custom jb. I know there is TW custom rom but only think is ported laucher quality of calls and camera are bad, i know there was some guys that ported from samsung source GB i897 with some mods and custom kernel but system was full stock unforcunalty links are death so i didn't test it.
and as i read somewhere there is not all opensource i will prolly need to get drivers TW and some other things. idk why but i read that they are closedcode in most case.
I really like and support your idea to start developing for i9010. I have an i9010 and I must say before you start, I have successfully flashed and used various custom ROMs for captivate (i897/i896), mostly ICS and JB ROMs. The first time I was sweating bullets, but it works and in my experience have never had issues using captivate ROM's on the Galaxy Armani.
