[Q] How to install Grand Theft Auto III on Note? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I should have bought GTAIII a couple of days ago when it was first released. I've read that it ROCKS on the Note! Now it says it's not compatible on the Note which is bull$hit since people who first bought it are running it.
Is there any way to bypass the device restriction limits in Market???
Brgds... /Tubgirl

Hey I have the apk if you want it? I wasn't able to download after paying for it. I got the apk from elsewhere in the end and it runs great.

Thank you, but I'd prefer buying it and avoid the risk of getting malware on my phone.
Brgds... /Tubgirl

Any way to spoof the phone model or to temporarily use an older version of Market??

there are like 4 different versions of gta 3 on the market.
http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/1...ft-auto-gta-iii-is-now-in-the-android-market/
theyre all listed on that page. use your phone, aim it at the qr codes until you find one that you can download. theyre all multilanguage versions, even the jap and ger versions.

I got it by buying it from market.android.com rather than the market on the phone.
Your right its pretty good, shooting is a bit hit and miss though!

Thank you but none of the versions work. Says they're not available in my location (Sweden).

Howdy all,
I have been playing GTA 3 on my Galaxy Note for the last few months, and I think it is fantastic. I remember playing it on the PC when it was first released and I loved it then. However, I found it very hard to complete back then, in my youth. But now, on the Galaxy Note, I have completed all of the main missions and some of the side missions. However, I am curious about the rampage missions which seem to be missing from this game. I am running v1.3 with "full loaded" effects but none of the rampages are available on any of the islands, and there is no indication in the stats that there any rampages. So, has anyone else seen or completed the rampages? I vaguely remember completing the triad rampage when I had one of the previous releases (v1.0 I think). So it must have been there at some point.
Also, did anyone else notice that certain "things" changed between v1.0 and v1.3? For example, when you killed someone you could pick up money from them? Also, I vaguely recall that you could still beat someone up with the baseball bat when they were on the floor, but in v1.3 you cannot.

[Q] new SGT owner

so i was given a tab for fathers dad and the wife went to BB and they talked her into paying full price for a tab i think it was like 400+. it was what i wanted (a tab at least) so i played with it for a while but took it back because i felt she spent to much. while i had it though it was a bit sluggish on its performance and did freeze and the browser did crash a few times randomly.
so after i had it i knew i really wanted a tab so i began my search and for my use of one just to waste time on the net and send emails and maybe watch some youtube i just needed a cheap no high end tab. well i was going to buy the nook color and root it and call it a day but 249.00 was still a little high. so i came across an amazing deal and got 2 tabs for less then 300.00 so with that said i have a few questions
1. is there an app or do i have to root then get an app to correct the sluggish issues??
2. my tabs say verizon on the back is this a good or bad thing. just talking random people on the streets i hear that because of the carrier im restricted in certain capacities??
3.ive seen u can over clock these but its only by .2 is it worth it??
4. is upgrading to honeycomb gonna be worth it ?? like is there a performance benefit for this or is it just cosmetic
5. my wife does online classes with phoenix she says she needs to be able to write and save papers as word 97 format. will she be able to do this on the tab??
very excited to start playing with my tab thanks in advance guys
As far as a app to fix the sluggishness, its not one app fixes all, its a combination of alot of things, search the forums, see what people are doing. As far as verizin on the back. That just means that you can only hook them up tgrough a cdma network and at that price they may very well have bad esn's, which if they do, there's a high chance that they are stolen. Not trying to give a don't buy used speach. It just means that they will never work on verizon.

Honey comb will not come out for these devices. They use the phone version of the new software which is gingerbread and yes that is already starting to roll out in italy.
As far as a .2 over clock, it really depends on what you are doing. Some people say yes over clock some say no. Once again just browse the forjms and see what people say. Doesn't have to necessarily be just the tab. See what peoples results are with any device, that should give you a pretty good idea.

One more thing. As far as gingerbread, it does do something for performace. Don't quote me on this but I belive I read somewhere thay samsung was improving the video drivers for the hummingbird chipset so we may see better graphics after the update.

Having a CDMA tablet also limits you to the Roms you can use. Make sure, if you decide to upgrade firmware, that it is a CDMA rom you are flashing as the GSM roms will probably brick your device...
Ok so from the responses I need to make sure I use CDMA roms and not gsm. What is the difference?? Also I need to make sure I run gingerbread?? Not sure what that means but I guess I have some homework to do. Lol. Also I'm not going to be using these on the 3G networks just wifi. If they did have broken cs..somthings that was said above will that effect the wifi??

[Q] What Exactly can you do with a SGT??

Hey whats up guys, I have a Galaxy Tab on the way from sprint.
It's my first actual official Android Device (Had a T-Mo MDA, Sprint Mogul, TP1, and TP2). I have a Touch pro 2 that I was able to put Froyo 2.2 on... But that device became too tedious and I felt it was way behind compared to most Android Devices.
So I have a couple of days between now and when I receive it.
I was doing some browsing on the capabilities but I'm 100% sure I haven't seen all of what can be done.
So I figured that everyone can chime in as to what capabilities this thing has, and other members can be informed of what their device is capable of that they didn't even know.
Rooted, and Unrooted.
I think this can help everyone being that it's all condensed in this thread.
Thanks guys

I was, at first, a Tablet hater. Not sure what possessed me to get the Tab, I think I wanted to see what the hype was about.
I honestly, don't use my laptop much anymore. It's become such an effort to turn it on, and browse the web, when my tab is near instant. 3G is a must. Its what's made it so useful. Its just a fantastic device. Games are amazing on the 7" screen, browsing is a delight (I use Dolphin HD) and its just so portable. It'll fit into some jean pockets and most back pockets of any trousers.
I would buy a 2nd version of a Tab instantly.

My experience with my Tab has been making/editing themes, editing photos for work and I've recently been designing a website for a friend.
Obviously, each aspect is limmited to what apps are available, but whatever profession you're in, there will always be an app for you.

[Q] [Sprint] Better Than Life EF17 ROM, Missing Market Apps/Movies

So a few days ago, I flashed the Larger Than Life EF17 ROM that recently came out. I loved having a rooted Tab with Froyo so i jumped when i saw it in Gingerbread.
I am having one annoying problem though. I am unable to find a few apps on the Anidroid Market that were there on stock Gingerbread. The main two i can think of are Netflix and Documents2Go. I purchased the activating/key program for D2G and can find that but no luck on the main app.
I dont absolutely need Netflix but D2G is my favorite office app and use it nearly daily.
The other oddity is that in the latest market, it shows Books for purchase but i dont see a single movie to rent. The entire movie section is missing from the market.
I understand this is likely causes by the device fingerprint but i dont know what to change it to.
Does anyone have any ideas on what i could do to get back the apps i had in stock EF17? I would have replied to the ROM thread in the Development forum but i havent posted enough on the xda forums to do so.
There are ways to fix the symptoms very easily, but it won't fix the problem you're describing. I've got a netflix apk I can post that should work(don't have d2g). But like I said, won't make apps come up in the market.

i've got the same issue, and cannot update my system apps in the market (says I am up to date, even though I am not).
i keep just pulling them down off my phone and emailing them to myself, but that gets old

Grand Theft Auto 3

Hi Everyone! I was wondering if anybody purchased GTA 3 today? (It just came out!)
The Droid 3 wasn't listed on the supported devices, but I can see it in the market, and I was wondering if anyone picked it up and has it working on a D3?
Thanks!
It says its compatible with the Droid 3, will try later.

Does it? I didn't see it on the list of supported devices.. and unfortunately nobody has a review of it saying it works on the D3 (why don't people like this phone, it has a freakin keyboard!)
Whatever, I'm buying it anyway... should work on my transformer if it doesn't work on the D3
FYI, the game crashes right to the home screen after the title screen comes up. Looks like it doesn't work
What I read was that there's like 4 version.. GTA3, GTAIII GTA 3, etcetc. And some seem to work on some phones while not working on others
It doesn't work, looks like they aren't supporting OMAP/PowerVR phones yet. But there is hope as they are adding support for the Galaxy Nexus an OMAP/PowerVR phone, and I imagine that release will support similar phones. NFL 12 did this. I would have thought OMAP/PowerVR would be the first to get the game since this seems to be where are the new phones are headed (or at least the Nexus series), but I imagine porting a game takes a while so who knows how long they've been working.
Hi all...
Verzion 1.1 works on my Droid 3 without problem.
I must use apk + data for i9000
I tried play the game with HDMI output on my TV and......GREAD
wow it really does work
Tried it on my bionic and it doesn't work. Crashes.
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using XDA App
I have a few glitches...trees are giant green blobs, glass doesn't show up, and the graphics seem lower quality. But still glad it runs!
Version 1.1 is working, I had to obtain the apk since the Android market says its incompatible with the Droid 3 yet Rockstar says they added Droid Bionic support (spec wise they are practically the same)
Graphics are good but laggy, I downloaded them on my phone over wifi. Either way its still pretty amazing that a game that required then then pretty new PS2 can now run on a phone 10 years later.
The nice part is some of the keyboard buttons work, but I don't see a way to remap keys in the options.
The arrow keys work and also:
w - look up
a - look left
s - look down
d - look right
f, enter - enter/exit car
c - change view
space - jump (brake in car)
Where did you find the apk? I tried installing 1.1 from 2 different sites and both did not work. I will eventually purchase this, if Rockstar ever makes a compatible version...

It works until I touch the screen and try to skip beginning videos/animations
1.1 works okay a bit hard to control but still fun. I have not tried 1.2 as of yet rumor is it runs on all devices but idk
I bought it from the market today. It's on sale for the holidays at $2.99. Seems to be working fine. When I first installed, it froze during the opening video and I had to do a battery pull. But now it's working great.
I just wish they had a keyboard shortcut to punch/shoot. But using W to accelerate and the arrow keys make it very playable.
Im happy that I saw the copy I bought on the first day back in my "not installed" list.. I hated using the copy I downloaded. I want the updates immediately!
Still have giant crazy block trees, but it runs better now
Oh man, used to love this game on the pc! Totally getting it!!

Childproof Nexus 7

Our kids are using the N7 and I wondered how I could go about making it a good tool for them to learn on (games, letters, numbers etc.) but at the same time hide/restrict the more grown-up stuff, like email, maps and all the other stuff they won't have need of at this time.
I figured I can make a folder for all their games and learning apps, but has anyone got any ideas of how I can tweak the unit so when they use it, it will be "barebones" for them but still allow me access to the full features if the need arises. The unit is predominately for the kids so I won't need access that much. It would be great that once they switch it on, all they see is "their" stuff. Ideas...?
Thanks
As far as the "child proofing" goes, definitely get a good case and screen protector, maybe even something that they can put around their wrist when they hold it so they don't drop it as much.
To hide apps, download something like Apex Launcher and go to the drawer settings, it has a way to hide any installed app.
You could also install Avast! Anti virus. I think that has a way to block certain websites from being accessed and and also includes features to find the device when lost and lock certain apps.
There is also a new launcher coming out called Chameleon that looks a lot more straight forward for a kid to use. The launcher also includes pages of apps that change the feel of the device.

If you press the All Apps icon then touch and hold an icon for a built-in app, you can drag it up onto an Info icon. As well as showing you info about the app, it allows you to disable it. So you can install only 'safe' apps and disable 'non-safe' apps', including the Play Store.
Then all you have to do is make sure they don't have access to the Tapatalk app in case they read this post...

The Play Store definitely has some child-proofing available.
If you're on the more nerdy side, you could actually root the device, set it up how you like it, then either make the Market and other offending apps invisible, or lock access to them.
Just depends on how far you want to go. Something tells me that the Play Store child-proofing may be enough.
There is an app called Switch Me. Basically it lets you configure multiple profiles by setting up a new /data partition for each one allowing you to restrict access to certain apps and so on and even have multiple Google accounts setup for each user. You should check out out.

I would also look at Switchme to set up different user profiles.
EDIT: damn, evonc beat me to it by a few minutes. LOL

I bought my 5 year old an original Samsung Galaxy tab 7" and he is autistic so went through a throwing phase when he first started getting into electronics, like when he'd lose in a game. Anyway we have just a silicon case for it and it has with held the torture of all time and it is still in great shape. He even threw it off a second story balcony and it landed on a hardwood floor... bouncing afterward... but still chugging. No dents or scratches or defects. Thing is a champ.
While the Nexus 7 is a little thinner, I figured I'd reply anyway. GET A CASE.... and a screen protector. The Galaxy tab is a stout device but let's hope the Nexus 7 is AS good if not better. It feels solid.
I just got mine after lots of torturing myself that my Transformer was sufficient, but I must say the more I use it the more I like it.

You could look into the Fuhu Nabi 2 that I read about recently. It is basically a nexus 7 without JB (runs ICS), built in protection, and defaults to kids mode (the dad mode is a normal android). 8GB for $199

No, not child proofing the nexus 7, but instead a "Childproof Nexus 7", as the title says, which is basically what that device seems to be. Though this would not help anybody who already has a Nexus 7, it may help somebody looking for a Nexus 7 type device for their child.

Thanks for the link to my blog. As for OP's problem of rendering the "original" Nexus 7 child proof, it's technically doable by "borrowing" ROM from rooted Fuhu Nabi 2. Naturally, presenting the kid an original Fuhu Nabi 2 and taking back an original "adult" Nexus 7 would be more practical.
Pfft! Just don't let your kids use it. Make them go outside and build tree houses, play with an abacus or read encyclopaedias. 80s *****!
I also agree on getting the nabi2 its a really nice device. My 2 year old never killed her nabi1 and the 2 seems even more solid. She has thrown both of them and took a crayon (washable) to it and wild off with no marks or scratches on th screen.
The only issue I have is no root on it, but its nice and quick. Screen is not as nice as my Nexus7, but it has microsd slot and HDMI port. I hear someone rooted one but Fuhu asked them not to release how, so if anyone hears about root please post it here on the forums. I thought about trying the root tool for nexus but she loves it too much for me to risk it.

Them Fuhuans can ask anybody anything, XDA-Devs is a free-rooting country. I think the race is on already, to turn Nabi 2 into a chewable/droppable N7 with SD slot/HDMI. My guess the N7 and Nabi 2 are twin brothers (ASUS 370T being their dad), so a "standard" N7 rooting tool will work. If not at the first attempt, then with some minor tweak.
I'm following Nabi 2 (and Furbi 2) progress in my blog closely, so you're welcome there. Can't guarantee being exclusive bearer of the news though....

Also we got the glow in the dark bumper from fuhu with our VIP Gold upgrade, the new bumpers are bigger and thicker so should take a fall better. Just letting you know, not sure how rough you're kid is with it.
