Anybody done Drop Test on Note? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just curious to know!

accidentally, from 2ft onto concrete with no case on. There is a slight scrath on the metal surround, other than that no damage at all.

Thanks for the update. Your answer is some what helping me
I had a confuse as the size it too large!

Accidently from 2ft onto carpet with a gel case on - it was fine

Dropped it like 20 times on various surfaces (including concrete) already, w/o case. Got some minor scratches on the "metal" frame, but even that is only slightly visible. Other than that: works like a charm + no scratches in the display.

Well different people have had different experiences. I have never dropped the phone yet... (Touches Wood)

Been there, done that. Screen cracked. Didn't shatter though. Disappointed in the quality of Note. Charged US$100 to change the whole screen including the HD-SAMOLED.

Same here. some scratches on the plastic rim

Bit of a shame it's ask plastic would have been move if the trim was metal to help protect it without a case.
I dropped it from like one foot, fell out of my pants got a mark on the trim, which I totally thought was metal.. Bit disappointed. First Samsung device, HTC definitely kick Samsungs arse in build quality/durability which is needed in a handset.

no it cant be dropped . i droped it from 1 feet and got small scratches on the blue surrounding but thats all.

I must confess I have done the same involuntary experiment, same result. The fall was slowed by the headphone cable and the phone landed vertically and then falled on it's back. Result: scratches on the bottom metal and a very small one on plastic back. Screen intact.

My kid disobeyed the Golden Rule of not touching my phone and dropped it from about 3 feet. Surprisingly, an angel swooped in and grabbed it, raised it where he can't reach and waited for me to retrieve it. Seriouly though, is there a way to get warranty on this phone? I bought it from eBay a week ago but it didn't give me an option to purchase a US warranty.

Here you go:

I dropped mine today It was in my jeans pocket, and when i got out of the car, it dropped straight onto the concrete with no case on. I screamed when i saw that it dropped with the screen DOWN.
BUT, the screen didn't get ONE SINGLE scratch! The only thing that got a couple of scratches was the bezel. Nothing major, but i'm happily using the flip case now

Dropped it once from my bike at around 1m high. The silicone case took all the shock, so great investment
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium

Dropped from 1,5 m on CONCRETE !!!
Fortunately. the silicone case did it's job.
Not a single scratch. Phone untouched

I hate all of you right now Anybody want to switch phones with me?

Metal can get scratched specially aluminum when dropped on concrete or asphalt. Have you seen the latest HTC phones? They're all made out of plastic.
As long as there are no flexes in the chassis where it actually counts, i couldn't careless about the usage of plastic

Metal makes the phone more stable and screen to easy to brake because on a fall the power from the drop goes to the screen without looking a strength front the metal bending or braking, my English isn't so good to explain more a static solution about the thema. Just check iphone cracking display because of it's metal body. And to answer your question, no I don't think you have space to put plastic between to absorb the fall. If a fellow with static experience and better English could explain them if this isn't enough.
Thank you

[Q] Captivate rather fragile

Dropped my cappy yesterday and killed it.
It only dropped from about shoulder height to the garage floor. Picked it up and found one corner of the display still lit and 3 internal cracks going across the display.
Pulled the battery and powered back up to a dead screen.
I've dropped every cell phone I've owned, this is the first time a drop has damaged one. Seems rather fragile to me. I have the insurance so I'll be getting a new one.
Anyone else kill theirs by dropping?
Shoulder height to floor could be 5 feet or higher. That's a pretty good drop for a phone with as minimal a case as this one.

How is your otterbox? Is it the sticky rubber kind that sticks to your pocket? I still have the body glove one. Tried a hard case but found it to be too bulky and hard to get to the dropdown menu.

So, other phones dropped on a concrete surface survived?
Dropped my D1 while holding it to my ear to the hardwood floor before. Battery poped out as well as got a ding on the side of the phone, but screen is fine. Tough little phones
This just in: glass cracks when dropped on concrete. News at 11.
Ok, to be serious, without a case, I would *expect* a fall from that height to break the glass on the screen. Yes it's hardened & scratch resistant Gorilla glass, but it's still glass after all. I mean, look at Pyrex. That stuff is amazing, but drop a Pyrex beaker on a lab floor, and you're still likely to smash it.
I'd suggest a case that includes lots of rubber, and maybe a screen protector. Both will help in case of drops/falls. Personally, I use an otterbox w/o anything over the screen, but it's all up to you...
Also "[Q] This is My Opinion" is not really a question. Just sayin'.

Ya, I've probably had 12-15 cell phones over the years, starting with the Motorola "Brick".
I've dropped every single on of them, even threw one across the room (but thats another story) I've ended up with broken covers and dents and dings, but everyone of them kept on working. None of them ever had any kind of case.

Didn't break the outside glass. The internal glass has 3 cracks running across it but the outside glass is fine.
after that many different phones all hitting the floor at some point dont you think its about time for one to finally break on you? i mean, you can drop a single phone a hundred times from the same distance and it work just fine with just a scratch, but if it hits a sweet spot like a corner, then it could completely shatter,
and that said, my cappy has survived several falls, but it was always in the otterbox, so its survived so far.

Either use a case or don't drop it.
I have a cheap $5 rubber case on mine and have dropped several times without issue. As has been said, if it falls just right, it will crack but the gorrilla glass in these is pretty damn durable.
I have no case on mine and have dropped it many times, still looking good here.

Threw my fuze into a wall. Dug it out and it worked just fine.
my captivate survived 2 drops on...1 on concrete 1 asphalt. Bad habit it setting my phone on my lap in the car. Both times i stood up out of SUV and phone fell probably 4.5-5 feet onto ground....1 fall = 1 small scratch on the plastic at bottom of the phone....2nd drop = no damage....phone is in case now wasn't going to test my luck with a 3rd.

How many times have you drop your Note?

Hi Guys,
I just want to know if anyone of you have had dropped there Note on the floor or off the bed or off the table?
How did it go?
I know I did. I just got a call from someone unexpectedly while my Note was charging. It was one of those calls that caught me really offguard and I was near sleep at that time.
And I really was thrown offguard that I slipped the Note off my hands and into the.floor.. Oh sh*t was all I could utter.
Good thing our second floor in our house was.made of wood or else I could have kiss the phone goodbye.
Anyone experiencing the same more or less accident than what I had?
Care to share guys?

dropped it enough times (not to remember how many) on to carpeted floors. dropped it about 6 times onto hard floor (accidentally), twice hard enought to dislodge the official flip case and spen and battery but phone has survived without a scratch (once it had fallen flat on screen but with flip cover covering it on to hard floor and luckily survived the fall from about 2 - 3 feet height). once my child dropped it through the gap in the sofa bed and screen edge landed on the metal rods of the sofa bed and screen survived but small dent on the plastic like thing surrounding the raised screen glass.
been lucky so far but need to insure the phone soon.
Three months out and never dropped mine not one bit. I treat this thing like it came from my own sperm. I don't let others touch it because I'm afraid if anyone drops it, i won't be able to control myself and stab someone in the face.....

I just got my gnote today and luckily I haven't dropped it. But the Guy I alsmost bought his gnote yesterday dropped his while on the way to my place to sell it. The screen was broken as a result. Poor Guy.

4 times. One from 3 feet on rough asphalt. Bottom metal border scratched, screen intact.
The others were from 1 - 2 feet on hard but smooth floor, no consequences at all.
I have more complains about the back cover, it's getting worn out (the texture on the back is disspearing on some parts) from just resting the phone on tables.
Fortunately it's cheap to replace.
I work in a bar, wearing a tabard with front pockets where I put everything on as I cannot reach my pants pockets when wearing it.
Basicly it's always in front of me, while I keep leaning against the bar furniture with iron pins sticking out (to hang bottle openers and towels.).
I broke me 60$ watch glass against one of the pins, but haven't scratched the phone a single time, while (no kidding) I keep hitting it with all the stuff in my front pockets.
So, you might call me lucky for 2 reasons, 1. not breaking my screen or 2. having such awesome phone!
I might think about placing a custom screen protection from a dealer who send the wrong size of screen protectors for a 10" tablet who i can cut out, then use the metal cover I bought (Forgot the name, but is the one you protect the side of the phone with, 4 letter name)
I also dropped it from 1.5m high on tiles andit jumped quite far away with an epic slide, not a dam scratch

[Q] Build quality / scratched paint

I've had my lovely Xperia T for almost 2 weeks now and I've got a few concerns about the build quality and I'd like to see if I'm the only one with these issues:
1) I've noticed a few places on the back panel which exhibit a certain amount of creaking when I apply slight pressure. The worst areas are at the top left of the device behind the notification LED and between the SIM/Micro SD panel and the power button. This sound is quite irritating to me, especially for a brand new device.
2) There are a few areas along the edge of the matte black panel where the matte paint have been scratched off. Two of the corners have slight paint wear and around the headphone jack. Under the matte paint is a shiny black surface and it seems (so far) to be affecting the sharper edges or where the matte panel meets the metallic bezel. I'll try to take photos, but it's very small at the moment and might not be picked up due to it's dark colour.
Like I said, I've only had this phone less than a fortnight and it's already showing signs of wear even though I'm very careful with my devices.
Do any of you have any experiences like this?

Yep about to ask the same thing here... I cant believe that after 2 weeks of normal usage back matte covering is starting to peel at the corners. Its some kind of spray over a glossy plastic. Had galaxy ace for over a year and that stayed like new. Was very upset with this, so I ordered thin hard plastic case to cover that s***.
I got the phone from O2 ireland. James Bond and what not...but very disappointed as for the price.
Mine is exactly as you described it. Paint started to peel off at the top corners and the creak when pressed on the left corner. Really disappointed with Sony's built quality. Also the factory installed screen protector is showing some marks/light scratches. Does anyone know if it is possible to remove it as I would like to replace it with aftermarket ones. It seems to be glued to the screen.

I've been reading into this 'shatter proof' layer and I'd be curious to find out if anyone here has removed theirs already? How does it affect dust/smudges etc? I'm naturally a bit hesitant to attack my phone just yet.
A note on the creaking case; I've found a rather unprofessional way to resolve it and it's reduced the noise significantly. It's possible to wedge a thin piece of paper between the back panel and the bezel, so I trimmed a piece small enough to go ask the way inside as far as it can go and gently pushed it out of sight using a craft knife. I used a post-it note and made a strip about 1mm wide and 5mm long and this seemed to do the job.

Not so sure its a "Shatter proof" layer or just to keep any broken glass stuck together so you dont cut yourself. It may give some protection against shattering but as I have said before, I removed it from my x10 and my neo with no adverse effects at all. Still to do it yet on my T. The reason eing, soon that layer gets scratched and dull, then I will take it off and have a brand new screen, similar pricicple to the rip offs the F1 drivers use on their visors.
Mine creaks as does my wife's Xperia T. Really annoying at first, but I got a hard case from Amazon UK and its stopped most of it.
Just removed my built-in/factory-fitted screen protector or whatever you want to call it
Gave it a good clean as it was very slightly tacky and now it looks much slicker with the screen off... it seems to attract less dust and it isn't as smear-prone as before. I prefer the naked glass feel and it seems ever so slightly more responsive. Kinda glad I took the plunge after being too chicken to do it lol
Good for you!! Did mine also today using a credit card. Started at the top where the speaker is as it had the least resistance. Came off quite easily.

Are the front-panel logos on the Xperia T on the glass itself or on the shatterproof sheet? In other words, did the logos come off along with the sheet?

same problem
had my xperia T for about 2 months now, i have been very careful with it, it hasnt been droped, or against anything sharp, the only thing it has had is the pulling in and out of my pocket every time i use it, as any phone should be designed to do, and the paint on all 4 corners is wearing off, mainly on the left side, i belive this to be the angle that it usually is in my jeans pocket causing it to scratch.
as a matter of intrest whats the cover on warenty for something like this? because the manufacture could say its not their fault,

Be careful when placing your phone on a surface that is not flat

So yesterday I nearly destroyed my phone by placing it on my leather wallet. After doing so, I went to the kitchen and after around ten minutes I heard a loud noise of something smashing on the ground. It was my N4 that slowly slipped from my wallet. Luckily, it just hit the chair and not the ground and I only have a minor scratch in the metal bezel. After some testing I found that the glass back is stupidly slippery. It even starts to slide when the surface has quite a lot of grip. I think this is due to the coating of the glass. Funny enough, it feels really nonslip and safe holding it in the hand. So be careful where you place your phone!

Yeah, I Put a case on mine.
Why the hell is Google putting glass on the back is beyond me. I guess none of them own an Iphone 4/4S or never heard of constant broken back glass from it. This is one slippery phone and a finger print magnet.
My iPhone 4S has slipped quite a few ties doing exactly that- sitting on my leather wallet. Luckily, I havent managed to crack it. I hope the Nexus 4 has a strong back.
Bummer... I have to get a case soon.
I put mine on my desk to charge, and the weight of the USB cable was enough to make the phone slither off the desk like a snake. Happened twice actually, I blamed the cats the first time. This phone is too smooth
Until you get a case or if you do not want to get a case then you could go to walmart, target or home depot etc. and get some of the small round rubber feet they put on boxes and vases to keep them from scratching tables and stick one in each corner of the back. They will keep the phone from sliding and help the speaker from getting so muffled when laying flat.

Definitely very slippery - slipped from my hand as I was handing it to my wife to look at ~5min after unboxing. landed on the corner on our hardwood floor and spiderwebbed the back.
A case will cover it and the front is fine so it could have been much worse. I'll just wait until replacement glass backs are available

The glue used on those things like to slip, especially if they become warm like with the body temperature the phone will reach in someone's pocket. And then that glue leaves behind residue along the slippage path.
Did we really need a thread to tell people to be careful where they put their phone?

There was this pan sticking out from the table that was very hot and I moved my hand really fast away from the pan and my phone went flying out of my and the worst part my phone hit the floor. No cracked screen Damage wasn't bad but I have these light scratches on the screen and one little scratch on the top left conner of the phone. The drop was bad and I'm surprised the damage wasn't greater then it was. Anyone else drop there phone yet? The scratches are so light I think i can buff them out with wax but will that mess up the coating on the gorilla glass? What's everyones input or stories?

Sounds okay to me, I would've probably expected a crack from that kinda fall. Luckily I haven't dropped mine yet, but I'm being very careful with it.
Here's a pic of the top left conner. :crying:

Let's hope it never happens to you such a beautiful phone to have digs and scratches.
I dropped mine last nite. I was sitting on a chair on the patio smoking, and I was asked to do something. I forgot that the phone was in my lap and stood up. It flew across the patio landed on cement, slid, and I cringed.
Picked it up and not a scractch. SOOOo happy.
I spent like 20 minutes going over it with a fine tooth comb too.
:fingers-crossed:
At least it didn't crack! The first drop is always the hardest. But hell, its a phone this won't be the first scuff/scratch/ding you're gonna get on it.

Anyone know if I buff the scratches out with wax if it will mess up the coating on the gorilla glass? Cause right now the finger prints don't show but I'm guessing its the coating.

Luck...:good:
do not do anything based on what I say, but my understanding is that gg2 doesn't have a olephobic coating but is just olephobic itself.

Bro that looks good! Honestly theres noting wrong with damaging your phone as long as its not too bad. Before you could re sell phones but with this starting out so cheep I doubt it's even worth being extra careful with it. Whats the point of having the inconvenience of a case for an entire year when you're probably just going to move on anyways? And like I said, that is minor damage, I wouldn't hardly stress it.
That's not that bad! Though consider yourself lucky as there are people who have cracked/shattered phones and they have no idea why...
Mine slid off of my desk twice yesterday. Which is strange because I never thought my desk was slanted.
dropped mine from waist height onto hard wood floor, no marks.

Imagine that! Some people ate getting cracks from placing then shown softly. Others are getting started that apart out of nowhere. You actually drop yours and the glad is totally in fact and fine! I don't know how that weak gorilla glass could stand up to it! You should post this in that weak gorilla glass thread.
Seriously though, I am glad your phone did not sustain to much damage. I know even a small ding hurts but think of how much worse it could have been.

I dropped mine twice yesterday. First it slid off the arm of a chair. Then I pulled it off my night table with the headphone cord doh! Not a mark on it though
