[Q] Rooting Original Droid 2.2.4 FRK76 - Motorola Droid and Milestone General

I've looked around and i cant find any answers. All help is appreciated.
Thanks

I'm in the same boat. Can somebody brilliant help us out?

Have you guys tried superoneclick? It worked on the last update and I'm pretty sure motorola only added 2 minor changes to this update

I've tried it many times with no success but I got it to work with an older version. Now I need to find a good rom lol.
Sent from my Droid using xda premium

I was having issues with root not working properly with newer versions of Superoneclick last night and got around it by using Superoneclick 1.7 which has the rageagainstthecage method (removed after version 1.7).

Anyone know any good roms for 2.2.3?

Since 2.2.3 is an antiquated version of Android, there are no ROMs based on it. All Droid developers have put their efforts into maintaining Gingerbread (2.3.x) on the phone.

Ok but does anyone why my phone is showing the triangle and exclamation point tin g when I try to reboot into cwmz?

I just sucessfully rooted my wife's original Verizon Moto Droid using superoneclick. It came from the one click thread found here --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
The key was to go go the bottom of the page and download the 2.2 version and not the 2.3

Hope this helps
I just got a droid a couple days ago and had this problem. What i did to fix it was used rsdlite to downgrade using the .sbf file for android version 2.2.2. Once at stock android 2.2.2 i rooted(search for tutorials its pretty easy). Once your rooted download rom manager. If you go into rom manager, flask clockworkmod recovery, then browse the downloable roms on rom manager you can find Peter Alfonso's roms. He has a rooted stock 2.2.3 rom. It is a long process but it works for me after not being able to find a way to root 2.2.3. Hope this long explanation helps.

You need to rename a file on your /system partition that overwrites clockwork.
http://androidforums.com/droid-all-...k-custom-recovery-wont-stick.html#post1448841
You will need to remount /system as read-write to do this.

Can you provide more detail? Where did you find the 2.2.2 .sbf file?

I figured it out. I'm running rooted 2.2.1 with a custom rom.

im looking for frg22 unrooted at the moment so i can see about returning my Droid since the charger barely stays in the port these days. but if you are looking for stock unrooted frg22 then i will post a link if you havent found it yet
Go to droidmod.org and download DMupdater 12. Its like the 3rd post down on the main page. Once you have it installed go to the rom menu and they give you a couple of options for 2.2

Z4root and super one click havent worked for me..

is there a version of this that we can apply without loosing root?
just want a stock version w/ root
I am at android version 2.2 build FRG22D rooted
and just want to get the FRG83D update
similar to what Pete does
http://www.peteralfonso.com/p/downloads.html
after looking at the update list I would only be interested in the new twitter app, new gmail app, and news/weather widget. It seems it might just be easier to find these apk's individually and install on FRG22D rather than deal with the upgrade.
Unless there's something else worthwhile in the upgrade that I'm missing...
I didn't notice anything different after upgrading.

Did you use the small FRG83D-from-FRG22D file (under the OTA section) or the full FRG83 DeOdexed?
Or is that smaller file just what Verizon sent out?
I successfully rooted my Droid1 using SuperOneClick tonight.Downloaded it from XDA tonight. It reverts back to frg83.I am a complete dummy but the instructions were simple.

ok, not knowing what was added in Peter's build, I used a rooted stock build posted by metiCkOne (link below) that included busybox and superuser.
I didn't even wipe data, updated on my rooted FRG22D with SPRecovery.
After that I just re-installed my preferred kernel update to get a higher overclock setting.

hi,i used the latest download from peteralfonso.com website -its for stock roms -a star is beside it to let you know its the latest version....just click on deodexed(i used this version*)-it will download to rom manager-flash using clockwork mod recovery-this worked for me -i was rooted on 2.2 before i flashed this and didn't lose root afterwards....hope i answered your question,i'm still new at using android os(coming from apple os)
ps:use your xda app on your android phone-much easier to apply downloads
To everybody trying to root just factory reset and then use a one click rooting method
No ever since i got froyo second update FRF22 i never being able to get 1 click root solution.

I recently flashed to Gingerbread on my gt p1010 using the guide found at

Everything is fine however, like the guide mentioned, I need to reroot the phone. I tried using the Superoneclick method that I used before installing gingerbread however it doesnt seem to work. This worked. Thank you. One more question if you don't mind.
A new clockwork mod manager was installed using the cf-root you linked. However when I open it it tells me that I'm running a different kernel and that several features have been disabled. Is possible for me to flash a different kernel to gain the usage of these features?

One Click Root

So every post or site i find thru google, including the main post on here, that tells you how to do it, and gives you the zip with all the files in it that oyu need, the link to download that zip no longer works, i've tried so many different links, all of them thru multiupload and it always errors. So can someone help me find a working link, or just tell me everything that is in the zip so i can download it individually ! The help would be much appreciated !
well after lots of frustration i finally found the right files and my phone is rooted. I installed Busybox (super user was auto-instsalled when rooted) and i put CWM on there. SO now that i have clockworkrecovery, how exactly do you boot into recovery mode on the LG ? I kno how to do it with the droid x and droid 2 global, but this is my first non-Motorola android phone.
apparently, when i was in CLockworkMod, i selected the downlaod rom option so i could see what roms where there, and it says I need to install clockworkreocvery first (thought it was already installed) and so i click install, but the list of phones that pops up does not have my phone on it, the only LG phone it has is the Esteem. So how do i get ClockWorkRecovery to install and work ?

What you are using is an app called ROM Manager and you cannot install Clockworkmod Recovery from that app. No features on that app are compatible with the Revolution.
You need to go to this thread to download and install Clockworkmod Recovery. Just follow the instructions in this post and it will get you Clockworkmod Recovery:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1348557
yea i already had it installed, ClockWorkMod just seems to think it isn't, but if i click the reboot into recovery option from within ClockWorkMod, it does indeed boot into ClockWorkReocvery just fine. But I wasn't aware that clockworkmod didn't work for LG Revolution. Why is that ? I loved using it when I had my Droid X. They should fix that !
and so where can i find the ROMs for the LG Revolution ? I would also like to find some themes and what not.

There are only 2 ROMs currently available:
Rooted Stock Gingerbread:

The other ROMs listed on theunlockr.com are most likely Froyo builds. There are only 2 Gingerbread builds. Just flash the kernel, then you can use an app like SetCPU or CPUtuner or ROM Toolbox Pro (recommended) to adjust the kernel settings.

Just like you would a ROM, then grab some kind of CPU tuning app so you can overclock or underclock, whichever you want.

HOW TO ROOT coming from ICS STOCK FIRMWARE?

Hi all,
I have European Version of the Galaxy Tab 8.9 P7310 Wifi only.
I at least waited for the official Stock ICS Update to finally go and root my phone now. My first impression is that I made my life a little bit harder now.
As is can see so far in the forum there is only the possibility to flash CWM recovery from odin and after that go root as described in suwandiapr thread here:
**NEWEST P7310 ICS FOR USA RETAIL**[STOCK ROM]GT-P7300/P7310 odin image at One Place
Now I have a few questions. Can I use this method described in the thread for my European Galaxy Tab as well?
Can I use a CWM 6.0.0.8 file to flash with odin? Or only the versions shown in the thread?
Should be possible to unpack the "recovery.img" from a flash file prepared to be flashed from recovery, right? For example the one in the TOOLKIT thread from nirogu325 that is inside the Toolkit package
[GUIDE & TOOLKIT][8.04.12] One-stop Guide for 7300/7310
Finally, is there a possibility to flash root file from stock ics recovery. Becaus only possibility if have in stock recovery is to choose option "apply update from external storage" and when I choose this option the phone will show me "E:unknown volume for path [/sdcard]" and I have no access to my data in /sdcard folder.
Thanks for your replys.
Feels like people aren't searching....
I answered similar question yesterday...
I would recommend to use the stock ICS file for Odin flash. If you want, you can follow that up with an Odin-flashable recovery & a root.zip flashed from recovery.
see e.g.
Odin-flashable recovery (I still prefer the slightly older 5.1.2.6 - for a more complete and logical menu than 5.5.0.4; and more reliable than 6.x)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30839339&postcount=52
for root package:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30837767&postcount=47
Edit, to answer your other questions.
- There is no Odin package for cwm 6.0.0.8, so you can't use that directly over stock ICS.
- you can not use stock ICS recovery to flash anything at all, no root.zip, no nothing. Reason is that it does not mount sdcard correctly
- all of this will work on p7300/7310 of any region
Sorry fred_be9300, I searched a lot before opended this thread. Maybe not good enough, but I just want to get sure that I do everything correct before bricking my device.
So, thanks for your answers, this helped me to be completly sure what I have to do.
I sucessfully flashed the CWM with ODIN and after that installed the root.zip from CWM Recovery.
It was easier than I thought before, verything worked fine for me. Now I´m happy with my rooted Stock ICS for the moment and hoping for some more cool custom roms!
Thanks a lot!

Probably whatever was the first root package you tried, has messed things up. It may be preventing the other packages from installing properly.
It might work to run an unroot package to clean up; not tested that myself.
I vouch for the success of installing ICS + CWM5.1.2.6 + kk_root_ics. Try it clean, if nothing else works.

Wow you really picked up an oldie!
I would recommend you move on to a newer ics *for p7300* though. The one you are on now, was ported in August, from the initial p7500 (tab 10.1) ics release. When used on p7300, it tends to give battery miscalibration issues after one or several charge cycles. The thread you linked is full of the complaints.
