Sadly for Koreans, the version of the Note sold over there, well, frankly sucks. (No offence...) It's a prime example of why NO ONE, should EVER buy a carrier locked/subsidized device, even though it's cheaper up front; your **** get's locked down, features don't work, and not everything is what you'd expect as a customer. Not to mention, bye-bye unlimited data...
Anyway, getting back on topic. The Korean Note, as I understand it, uses a Qualcomm chipset, so possibly try using root methods for another device with a similar chipset? Maybe you could try the rooting method for an AT&T LTE Galaxy S2 (Skyrocket)?
Good luck!
P.S. In the future, boycott carrier subsidized devices. Buy unlocked. Buying subsidized devices just gives carriers more power over consumer choices, and thus more power to regulate what people can/can't buy, and what they can/can't do with their devices.

I am in exactly the same situation and havent had any luck with rooting mine either, any help is appreciated.
yes i wish i had not impulse bought this device and looked into it a bit more and got the n7000 instead

You can try, a method t hav mentioned in How to Root + CWM in my signature
In 16 nov edit section of that post i hav edited new method yesterday call unlockroot.exe, you may try it, i hav read it can root SHV 110, 120S, 120L, but am not sure about your device.

Gave that one a shot sadly no luck

I said "locked/subsidized."
If you bought your device to work with a particular carrier over there, and/or received it at a discounted price as part of an agreement with your carrier, or if it is in any way carrier branded, then it is subsidized, whether locked or not.

Oh I see.
Well I did in fact get a Note that is branded. I really only worried about it being unlocked.
In your opinion, what would be the best way to find out?
The seller at the shop didnt seem to know much about that and language was also an issue

Easiest way to tell is to see if the SIM card from a different carrier works.

So I can try a SIM from a different carry in the same country Im in or from my home country?
I think the Note has a micro SIM or something

any sim from any other network other than the one you got the phone from

Does anyone have any links or info on the Korean sites that possibly show the Korean model being rooted?
Its hard to believe the Korean version isnt able to be rooted yet by someone considering the amount of Notes sold in Korea as well as it being one the top leading computer using countries

Anyone out there with any root info for korean note?????? No root sucks

make it work on 3g simcard
is there anyway to make this model work on 3g network? 4g blows and no unlimited data.

Shouldnt I be able to root the Korean Note, IfF i download the Korean Note driver from the Korean webpage and use the most up to date SuperOneClick version????

Hi... same problem here... I am also looking forward to root my korean galaxy note. And as far as I know... it is NOT possible right now. So ... let`s just have a cup of tea and wait...

yeah guess we will need to wait

For those of us living in Korea, the most reliable way to root the Samsung family of devices is to flash a custom kernel that allows root. The boot-loader is not locked so it is only a matter of finding a trusted source.
That being said, Tegrak has been very reliable since support from the original Galaxy S thru SII and now international version of the note. I've read his site (in Korean) and he has a placeholder for the Korean versions of the note (SHV-E160S, SHV-E160K, SHV-E160L). The page says that he needs someone to send him a copy of the original firmware so that he can modify it with his additions prior to posting it for general download.
I don't have a note currently (although I am now considering one). If anyone would like to get this rolling, please contact him at [email protected]. He speaks fluent Korean & English so communication shouldn't be an issue. I know he supports over a dozen phone models currently. He posts updated kernels every time a supported model receives a firmware update. I don't imagine he owns over a dozen phones so I have to assume [we] help him by submitting source firmware that he mods and publishes.
---EDIT---
Tegrak just posted kernels for all 3 Korean Galaxy Note versions today here.
Find your version, download follow installation instructions. Download and install Tegrak Kernel (free / donate) and root your device. Kernel also has other features that voodoo sound support (Voodoo Control: free / donate) and overclock support (Tegrak Overclock: free / donate).
*** I recommend downloading free version first. Ensure it operates for you, then SUPPORT TEGRAK by BUYING THE DONATE VERSION. Gotta keep our developer pals hooked up on their supply of coke-zero!

Thanks Wapu!!!!!!!! Has anyone successfully tried it??

Thanks thT method worled perfectly. Is voodoo sound supposed to work? I couldnt get that to work.

[Q] A few questions regarding GT-N7000

So I bought the Galaxy Note international for my wife for her birthday. I full well knew that I wont be getting any official support from Samsung US. Those people are so incompetent anyways that its not really a loss. So I have a few questions for those of you who are using this device in USA.
1. Have you guys in US gotten the ICS update yet?
I ask because I am getting conflicted information everywhere.
2. If the hardware is international version, why does the country matter?
Very confused about this. I thought the good thing about having international version is that I wont need to wait for ATT to get off their backside to release updates.
3. Is there any way I can make my device simply talk to German or Indian servers to get the update?
I have rooted android devices before, so I am no stranger to the process. I would rather not do it on a device I am not using, simply because I want to keep getting official updates, without having to keep up with news on the device. So rooting to German ROM is the option only if Samsung has its head up its arse and update doesn't arrive this year at all.
Thanks for your help guys!

Your beat bet is to get a device from a region where ics is already released. It doesn't matter what country you're in, only if the country your device is from gets ics I believe. Not only is the updates better than ATT but I specifically got it for the hardware/ devs
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA
Thanks for the reply man. How do I find out what region the device was made for? It came with what I believe Russian documentation. Is there any way to know 100% sure? Using some serial number or something like that?
I want to say you can tell by the stock Baseband version that phone has, but I'm not 100% sure. Where did you buy this Note from? Amazon sells Brazil and Germany based ones for the most part I have heard. I bought mine on eBay and I THINK it is Germany, but not sure totally and I'm already custom and everything.
On the other hand, there might not be a way to tell what country you are on and how to get updates since you live in the states. I'm in the US too on ATT but ATT will have nothing to do with this Note. (They couldn't even recognize the IMEI number when I went into the store when I first bought it). Didn't know about the different model Notes until I got home and looked on XDA.
Andrew, I am on ATT as well but as my wife doesn't need a data plan (Wifi available everywhere we go), ATT doesn't even know that her line has a smartphone. Else they would push a useless data plan on us. Also, I got it from a third part seller at Amazon. Those people were as useful as a stick. Asked them where they get their stock from and never heard back.
If there is a way to find out country of origin, I would like to know. I've spent countless hours doing research on this, and for the first time, I have not been able to figure out a cellphone problem.
Also, I take it you already got your ICS update if your phone is German?

No, I didn't do an OTA update or Kies. I just PC Odined ICS, but now I'm on a CM9 build. If you are comfortable flashing and stuff, I would say just use PC Odin.

[Q] Galaxy S3 Gt-i9305 on orange?

Hi
I have been a member of the site for a while but haven't really posted due to having a iPhone only visiting when i was given phones to fix and such that were android. i am making the jump away from the apple handcuffs and would like some information about stock roms and unlocking.
i want to get the GT-I9305 but cant seem to get hold of one from a what i deem a reputable supplier. i have decided to go to an orange store and but the locked version on pay as you go. i have found someone that offers unlock solutions over eBay for about a tenner im not too keen on rooting just yet for warranty purposes.
the main issue is i don't want all the orange software on it i want to go to the stock firmware. can this be done easily without voiding warranty? what about over the air updates will these come through just as normal as if it is a stock phone. i am only sceptical as im used to the iPhone and jail-breaking and unlocks that are not permanent.
can anybody help me out with these points to put me at ease.
Thanks
Dan

Yes if stock roms are available for that model .
what about over the air updates will these come through just as normal as if it is a stock phone.
Not as normal you no longer have the same firmware .
Two routes wait for Orange to update to JB and stick with official updates .
Or join XDA users flash stock unbranded rom ( does not void Samsungs warranty ) and update the same way instead of waiting for Orange to update .
Note stock updates/flashing does not require root .
see the Stickies page one .

just one final quick one if i get it unlocked by the guy from eBay via the imei type method will this be unlocked forever (i feel stupid for asking this but im simply a stupid iphone user ) will it be unlocked forever even after updates
plus if anybody is put off with the orange website saying the galaxy s3 lte is out of stock i can assure you that when ordered they are allocating the stock straight away and i ordered this afternoon and have been given a delivery date for the 12th of october.
Thanks for your help
Dan
I totally understand your concerns. I have had mine for two days and can honestly say that it hasn't come with loads of (cr)apps from orange. I was flabbergasted!
However, it has come with the usual tonne of Samsung bloat but i think that will come wherever you get the phone from.
I put apex launcher on because touch wiz is terrible. S-voice sucks balls! Other than that i'm in love with the phone and i'm not even going to bother to root or custom rom it because it works so well. Not sure how long that will last but nothing bugs me about the phone.
Hope this helps. If you want me to check anything on my phone, just ask.

Thanks glad your enjoying it.
Did you keep yours locked to orange or have you found somewere to unlock it?
Try these.

My galaxy s3 i9305 is arriving tomorrow from orange and I wish to unlock it. Has anybody had any success off any websites as most list i9300 as the model?
Thanks
Dan[/QUOTE]
Ive used this site before for iPhone. and they have Galaxy S3 LTE listed? http://www.fonefunshop.co.uk/unlock/index.php
In the drop down select Samsung as manufacturer and in model drop doqn look for Galaxy S3 LTE. If unsure try asking them I remember communication was excellent!
I just bought my Samsung Galaxy S III LTE Titanium today and I was also wondering how to I go about unlocking my phone because Orange sucks balls I want to use my current giffgaff SIM.
Is it possible to unlock without rooting?
If not what's the best guide to root a i9305?
Once rooted how do I unlock my phone?
Also I heard flashing custom firmware can increase a binary counter that is used to invalidate the warranty on the phone?
Is it possible to reset this counter back to 0 so it still appears that it's within warrranty?
Thanks in advance, xda is awesome.

I bought the Galaxy S3 LTE version from the Orange shop yesterday and can confirm there is a working unlock out there as I am now using my 3 sim card...for £10.95!
The unlock was purchased on eBay (add on to the eBay URL): /itm/Unlock-Code-4-UK-Samsung-Galaxy-S-3-LTE-GT-I9305-4G-Orange-T-Mobile-All-Networks-/170923288428
If the link doesn't work, the title is 'Unlock Code 4 UK Samsung Galaxy S-3 LTE GT-I9305 4G Orange T-Mobile All Networks' and is sold by a seller called 'specialize' and I received my code after 30 minutes. :good:

Unlocking=Lost waranty?
Hi,
I've called today Orange to ask if I will lose the waranty in case I unlock the S3 because I do not want to wait 3 months for them to unlock it.
They said YES i will lose the waranty.Any ideeas why and what alse can I do
Regards,
Orange branding on my titanium LTE is surprisingly non existent but the normal Samsung bloat is still there.
If the warranty is with Samsung & the phone shows unlocked on their database ( after eBay member has done it)
How can Samsung not honour the warranty?, surely you don't need to involve orange or am I mistaken?
I bought mine from Orange a fortnight ago and there is no Orange branding at all anywhere on the device
Soon as you buy your 4G s3 and you want root etc.... well follow this guide very closley

Couple of Noob questions if I may.
I want to get the I9305 LTE rather than the I9300 in the UK as the I9305 has 2GB RAM and DC-HSDPA which the I9300 doesn't, but:-
1 - Will a 3G sim work in the I9305 (obviously not at LTE speed)
2 - Is there a higher battery drain on the I9305 with a 3G Sim than on the I9300 (i.e. will it scan for LTE signal, draining battery, even if the sim doesn't support LTE)?

1. Yes will work no problem but you may have to unlock your phone if it is locked to a network. I had to sim unlock mine as it was on tMobile.
2. No it will not. In fact with the right rom and some of Samsungs rubbish removed I get much better battery life then I ever did on the I9300.
Can't you pay Orange a fee to get a carrier unlock code? You unlock your phones after having them for 3 months on contract for FREE.

For hahas I asked Samsung about unlocking the BL

For laughs I sent Samsung customer support a request about unlocking the S4 like the htcdev.com site. This was their I think canned response. Looks like they recommend the Verizon dev edition.
"After reviewing your email, we understand that you would like to know the information on unlocking the boot loader of your Samsung Galaxy S5 phone.
We understand your requirement.
We would like to inform you that Samsung manufactures the devices according to carrier requirements/specifications and the devices will be locked to particular carrier network. As of now the option to unlock the bootloader on Samsung devices is unavailable. Unlocking the bootloader might damage the functionality of the phone. Moreover, it voids the warranty(one year from the date of purchase) of the phone.
However, Developer edition phones are available from Samsung wherein you can modify/develop any applications and the bootloader will be unlocked. As of now Samsung Galaxy S5 developer edition model(Verizon) is yet to release. Access the web-link below wherein you can view the specifications of the phone.

Honestly then they really should let us at leat have the option of unlocking boot loader a year after ownership. But still, their reasoning still leaves the debate open to, it's our device, we should have the choice to take the risk. Oh well at that point they'll just push the issue back onto AT&T.
Wonder why they didn't say anything about the T-Mobile one. That bootloader is unlocked.
That is basically being covered by carrier requirements. That AT&T requested it to be locked. The assumption being that T-Mobile didn't require it to be.

Yeah I would buy that if HTC didn't have HTCdev.com. There is no way Samsung ended up with a more restrictive contract than HTC.
I was bored so I decided to bug the Samsung tech support folks. Transcript follows
info: Please wait for a Samsung Agent to respond.
info: You are now chatting with '****'. There will be a brief survey at the end of our chat to share feedback on my performance today.
info: Your Issue ID for this chat is ******
Alice: Hi, thank you for contacting Samsung Technical Support. How may I help you today?
Chad: I'm looking for a way to get a signing key for my S4 (SM-G900A). Like HTC provides at htcdev.com.
Chad: sorry its a S5
Alice: I understand that you want to have signing key for S5. Am I correct?
Chad: Yeah basically I want to unlock the bootloader.
Alice: Thank you for information.
Chad: Or I'd be willing to return this S5 and buy direct from Samsung but i couldn't find one on the website with the same US ATT bands just the verizon ones.
Alice: I would like to inform you that there is no such option in S5 device which you are using.
Chad: Samsung must have the key for my S/n
Chad: it was burned in when they manufactured the handset
Alice: You need to buy Developer Edition model to unlock the bootloader.
Chad: i would like to do that but i dont see an att developer model
Chad: and last i checked the verizon one wasn't orderable
Chad: I'm a long time Samsung customer I must have at least 12 samsung devices in my household.
Chad: This lack of help is going to drive me to HTC for mobile.
Alice: I do understand your situation.
Alice: I apologize for the inconvenience caused.
Chad: and I may have to look at other TV electronics manufacturers
Chad: Samsung does have the key and are refusing to provide it?
Chad: Its win/win for you. You get out of warranty obligations.
Alice: I would have surely helped you if there is an option. Please understand that Samsung manufactures the devices based on the carrier specifications.
Chad: I understand that but you have the key. HTC does the same thing and they provide the key at htcdev.com
Alice: The warranty will be voided if you try to unlock the bootloader.
Chad: I understand that and I'm ok with it. Samsung wins no warranty obligations.
Alice: I do understand your concern. I am sorry to say that there is no option to unlock the bootloader .
Chad: You mean samsung won't give me the info i need.
Chad: OK I will return the phone. I have huge amount of Samsung gear in my house. It will no longer be my default manufacturer for electronics. I have been a customer for over a decade.
Chad: I'd like a corporate contact to send a letter or email to as well please.
Alice: I apologize for the inconvenience caused.
Chad: I'd also recommend you put a warning sticker on the boxes with phones with the locked bootldr. Its kind of sleazy to not warn people about that.
Alice: I would have surely helped you if there is any option for me to help you. Samsung will not recommend to unlock the bootaloader.
Chad: I understand that and I would buy it was a contract restriction with ATT if HTC didn't provide exactly what I'm asking for with the M8.
Alice: I apologize for the inconvenience caused.
Chad: Not your fault I know you don't set the policy. Do you have someone in public relations or somthing like that I could send an email to?
Chad: I just want to vent my frustration to a VP level person. I've been buying a lot of Samsung product for years.
Alice: I will provide you a link where you can send an Email to Samsung.
Chad: thank you
Alice: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/email/product/SGH-I317TSAATT
Alice: You're welcome. Is there anything else I can assist you with?
Chad: No that was it I'm happy with all of my other Samsung products at this point.
Chad: thank you
Alice: I really appreciate your time and patience.
Alice: We thank you for your inquiry today and hope your experience with Samsung tech support has been a pleasant one. In an effort to continuously improve our service, we request you to take a minute and complete a quick survey. Please click blue 'X' button on the upper right corner and you will be provided with the survey to complete.
info: Chat session has been terminated by the Samsung Agent.
That's most likely incorrect, doesn't make sense that AT&T would allow the One M8 to be unlocked and provide source code for the kernel, while Samsung is locked down completely.

This is crazy that we cant do what we want with what we own. I would have bought the m8 but no removable battery and not waterproof. That was huge for me. This bootloader situation is terrible
The S3 and S4 originally came with locked bootloaders. Somebody will figure it out The S4 bypass was developed a month after it was released last year.

The note 3 never had an exploit for the bootloader. No safestrap doesn't count.

The bypass you're thinking of is Loki, and that exploit was patched and closed a long time ago by Samsung. The Note 3 as said does not have a true bootloader unlock or bypass, it does have root but that was gained by modifying system, which also has since been closed on Kit Kat....sorry to say its going to take some time, for ATT/VZW to get any dev of any sort if any at all, a new exploit is needed. If you really wanted needed dev for the phone and wanted a S5, buying the Tmo version outright would have been the best alternative.

Just fyi The S3 did not come with a locked bootloader. I still have an S3 and never had to Loki it or anything. Normal plain root then recovery. Anything and everything can still be flashed (Roms/KERNELS/modems/themes.
The S4 came with locked bootloader but a bypass (Loki) was found soon after release for MDB and MDL firmwares. This allowed for flashing ANYTHING like AOKP/CM/Touchwiz based rom/KERNELS/ Modems.
After that the S4 was stuck locked up hard until safestrap worked. With Safestrap you can ONLY flash Touchwiz based Roms/Modems/and possibly themes/ but NO KERNELS OR AOKP/CM/GPE Based Roms. With each revision they locked it down further. The newest firmware is not really able to use safestrap without a workaround of flashing an older firmware without the bootloader, then safestrap it, then go back to the newest firmware. Safestrap is NOT near as versatile at flashing things as the Loki bypass as it was the ONLY real exploit found to bypass the bootloader. So in reality the "LOCKED" bootloader has NOT been able to be cracked yet.
All of this we all knew would make the ATT S5 bootloader locked down even harder and a exploit will probably never be found to completely change the locked bootloader and flash Roms/kernels/modems easily. IF a safestrap version or something similar does happen then only Touchwiz based Roms and modems (possibly themes) can be flashed. But NO AOKP/CM/GPE based Roms.
T-Mobile S5 will be able to do ALL NAD ANY flashing as normal since its bootloaders are NOT locked.

Hence the reason I bought a TMO outright and unlocked it for ATT, I dont think most users grasp how locked down the device on ATT and & VZW really are.

If they don't grasp it now, they never will. This thing is locked down as tight as a drum. Much like you, I agree it's going to be a while, if ever.

I would pay monies to the person who finds the exploit to root. I don't think we will get root without tripping Knox
i dont so much care about knox i just want root we can worry about untripping it later

Could you please let us know how's your SM-G900T performs on ATT networks? It picks up all LTE/3G bands properly to compare with original G900A? How's reception? I'm thinking about doing same thing that you did since TMO's one could be easily rooted...

same Reception as my ATT HTC One M8, i check reception via DB in status menu as signal bars are inaccurate many times...At my house I average about 105 DB on LTE with my M8, on the TMO S5 with ATT sim average 105 as well. So far I've picked up all LTE and HSPA+ bands on ATT properly just make sure your sim is activated on an ATT LTE device first and that you have the proper APN set.
Coming from away and moving here not that long ago I have always had international model phones so never spent any time on the LTE/varint side of XDA until now. I never had an LTE variant so didnt realize how locked down they were. I still have my S3 and Note2 international unlocked phones that work here without 4g and thats fine for me really but went for the att S5 since it was cheap. To be quite honest now understanding how things work with variants Im gutted. It will be the first and last variant I buy and Im going back to international models again. They come factory unlocked and bootloader unlocked and also dont have features taken out of them. Its a shame really. I find it pretty nasty that the carriers here have such an unfair gripe over the user and theres nothing that can be done about it.

I have Sprint. Which Note 8 to buy? Root. Please Help!

Hello,
Which Note 8 should I buy?
International Version
Unlocked Version
Sprint Version
I heard the processor for the International Version is best I think it stats with an E. Should I get that?
I would like to root.
Does it matter or should I just order one directly from Sprint?
Will this work with Sprint?
Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Factory Unlocked Phone - 6.3" Screen - 64GB - Midnight Black (U.S. Warranty)
This one from Amazon?
Should I buy that one above from Amazon or buy it directly from Sprint?
Can I root both of them?
I would like to order one today, I just don't know if I should order from Sprint or Amazon.
P.S.
Also if this is not possible should I get a S8 or S8 Plus? However, reading over on their threads doesn't look like root is possible really there either, hit or miss. Is that true? Which S8 I should get? International or US?
I mainly want apps like:
Ad Block
YouTube Background Player
YouTube Ad Block
ETC...
Please Advise.
you said sprint, sprint is cmda... meaning, exynos WILL NOT WORK. no international phone, you must buy snapdragon. now you have two choices carrier locked, and carrier unlocked. both have a locked boot loader and are not currently capable of root. if you purchase the phone out right it does not really matter which version you get. if you buy sprint locked after 50 days on their network they will carrier unlock the phone. the only true difference is carrier bloatware/ software which I'm hearing can be flashed using odin

The only thing I really want root for is Youtube Ad Block, but what the crap, mine as well just pay 10 bucks a month and get Youtube Red and allow my phone to update it self all the time.

What about S8 or S8 Plus? Root those or are people still having trouble? I think Samsung has finally figured out how to make it really difficult. Seems like it is not even worth it anymore.

from what I hear it is possible to root the s8, but it limits your max battery charge to 80%? kinda a **** trade off if you ask me.
so I'm like you I thought I must have root, my last android was a Nexus with a completely unlocked boot loader and I flashed custom roms when I tired of my current rom. that was four years ago and I've been jailbroke iOS since. do you still need root?
most people will say no. if they say absolutely the main arguments I've heard are for xposed(which doesn't even work on android 7) and viper4android (or some similar name, a sound tweak I think) besides those two, removing bloatware, and hosts file ad blocking.
my personal experience: I will be giving up an unlocked boot loader by purchasing the note 8. this mean no custom roms. I haven't given up hope for a future possible root method, but I am willing to accept that it may never come or when it does we can only charge to 80% or something else ridiculous. I don't need root, I would like it, but I will compromise.
tldr;probably not, especially if you are willing to sub to YouTube red for 10$ a month.

The issue is that the Snapdragons have locked bootloaders but you need a SD version to use the Sprint network. It doesn't matter if you buy a Note 8 or an S8, the issue with the locked bootloader is the same.
For me personally, I need root because a lot of the apps I have use root. If you only wanted to block ads on YouTube, it's probably unnecessary and far more hassle than it's worth.

Last question. I saw on another thread that this ... Is this true? Should I buy one that is unlocked from Amazon or the Samsung site and get hotspot or can I get hotspot on the Sprint one or do I need to search for the perfect app to do it? Which would be easier?
Unlocked version:
Hotspot - Awesome
Download Booster - Awesome
No Bloat - Awesome
Wi-Fi Calling - working awesomely
Sprint Version:
LTE Calling - I might miss, might be worth flashing Sprint mod when available...
Please Advise.

Sorry, I can't provide any guidance in this area. I'm in Australia and don't have experience with the inclusions/exclusions on specific American networks such as Sprint. I do know they use CDMA technology, which the Exynos SoC doesn't support.
Hopefully, one of the other enlightened souls on this forum can help you with this question.

The Sprint Version will cut out the download booster and hot spot unless your plan includes it but include calling plus features which include their version of the Wi-Fi Calling and LTE Calling for surfing over calls....but we already have that with Wi-Fi calling...Sprint also has Bloat software such as VVM but I install Google Voice for voicmail...it is up to you...at this point I have found no function lost.
Oops...I forgot to mention that they may update more frequently or sooner

When I called my wife on Wi-Fi Calling i was able to surf the web as well...I'll double check tomorrow when she is awake though
I have the unlocked version arriving soon and I will be using it with sprint. (With the free 1 year promo)
AFIK only the sprint and unlocked versions are whitelisted to work on sprint. Any other snapdragon models you will need to request a manual request to add your IMEI to the sprint database.
And I believe the Exynos models isn't compatible with CDMA at all, something with licensing or patent issues with Qualcomm.

Are you serious. I will be giving up call over data? WHY? Is this like that for Verizon and AT&T? Have they all lost call over data or do they just not want you to be able to do it?
Should I keep my Note 3 for that very reason?
Does any phone like the S8 or S8 Plus have call over data?

yup oversight on your part. for a while now, carriers have no impact of if a device is rootable or not. search and learn how to find out what model you have, then look at the 2 sections concerning rom developments. you will see that the model you have dosent match any of the 2. anyways the info is all there if you take the time to read and search a tiny bit. a rule of thumb here is that any samsung device from north America since the last 4 or 5 or so( not to confuse with carrier) cant be rooted. there was root at very precise point in time on the note 8 and probably s8?(cant confirm for s9) for north American devices but you had to be on a particular firmware and not update your device ever again. But note 9 from NA, nothing yet and it dosent look good( 1 year later and no root, outcome looks bleak). as you can see if you have rooting needs its never good to buy american(or canadian) because even if you can root ure stuck with conditions and likely not have a recovery to backup and flash roms.( flashfire could have probably flash zip though but anyways this ancient history at this point)
anyways the rest of the planet can root their samsung fones though so just goes to show how evil carriers are and how the government dosent care. alot of people state that its they're right but everyone knows companies run america so... that generally won't change for a long while.
but lately, apparently there is one exception to the rule regarding bootlaoder unlockability(thus the ability to root),: Sprint's gs10 5g can have its BL unlocked which was shocking and not to sure why samsung provided different devices to sprint and not the rest of the carriers. but that has nothing do to with the note 9.
