Might be Bricked. NEED HELP! - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok I did something stupid with my Galaxy S. I didn't pay attention to the firmware I was downloading i did a search for orange branded i9000 Firmware, and was downloaded from a site. Legit firmware and all. So I went to flash with odin like I have done lots of times. Came up fail, so I figured something happened during transfer, so restarted it back into download mode and reflashed again. FAIL again. Restarted and it would not turn back on. The unfortunate to all this is, the firmware after looking in horror at my galaxy s and looking back at the screen said I9100 above and I did not see that at all.
Sooo even with a USB jig this will not show a download menu, no recovery mode, no screen when plugged into charger. Anyone have any tips before I attempt the unbrickable mod?

post you question on darky rom forum they might b able to help

If even the Jig does not work i would try the unbricablemod. I dont't know an other solution to revive your phone than the UnbrickableMod if your phone doesn't boot into the Downloadmode with a Jig. So you have nothing to loose just try this Mod.(it could be your last hope to rescue the phone without sending the phone to Samsung) I didn't try it yet because i ever could revive my phone with the Jig but I've read some reports in a german forum and the users there are reporting that the Mod does rescue the phone even if the Jig doesn't boot your phone in Downloadmode.
You can find the unbricablemod i'm talking about here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1153310 It's called "one click-unbrick". Just follow the given instructions and your phone schould work as before

Is your phone really bricked?
Is your phone bricked, or is it stuck at boot???
Normally, if a phone gets bricked, you see the screen of death: a phone logo and a computer logo, with an exclamation mark in between the two...
By the description, it looks like your phone is not able to boot, and is stuck at the screen, where it says: i9000
try putting it in downloading mode, and use odin to go back to stock firmware....

If you can't even turn on your phone, maybe your battery is flat after all that flashing

^^^ That may be the case, try to get another battery or chargning this batter outside the phone (wire to to a 5v source).
Sidenote: I think that download mode draws power from the usb (the phone will stay on even if the battery is removed [at-least mine does])
If the jig does not work then you probably flashed the bootloader or something...which is bad, in that case, unbrickable mod may be your only hope.

I revived it with just the software version of the unbrickable tool. Only have like 2 seconds to do it in linux when you connect the phone, but it put it into a white screen and I flashed with heimdall and I am back up and running. Thank you all!

so you flashed a stable ?

Yep I posted stable. It's weird because if your device shows up in windows some weird device you only have have a couple seconds in linux to make it flip into download, but its doable and I didn't have to hardware mod anything. Back to a perfectly working Galaxy S

Good for you !
You did it well, nice one! ;-)

I was to about to ask you to check your battery but glad you fixed it

Captivate dead? Boot to blank black screen

Need some help trying to figure out how to make my Captivate turn on...I press power and get the AT&T slash screen and then the galaxy s logo loads for about 3 minutes and goes to blank dark screen with the capacitive buttons lit. this is not good because my **** won't boot into recovery either
You should flash to stock then...pull battery, hold volume buttons and plug in usb with odin loaded and ready on the computer. There's plenty of threads to help you out
Sent from my phone so excuse the spelling errors
Funnily enough... My phone just did that too. I was installing Mort Widget and it just totally bricked...
I'm rather p!ssed at this...
Course this was after it deleted all my email accounts and SMS.
What you'll need.
Odin (search or look in any of the ROM/Firmware threads, for example the i9000 ROM or unofficial JH2 or JH3 ROM)
Your USB cable.
The firmware files.
Steps:
Remove battery, SIM card and micro SD card.
Open Odin on the computer.
Put the battery back in.
Plug in the USB cable to the phone.
Hold both volume up and down.
With VOL up/down held in, plug usb cable to the computer.
Your phone will show the beloved DOWNLOADING yellow image.
Odin:
Simply select the rom/firmware you want to flash to and enjoy.
I can confirm this will not overwrite the phone's internal 16gb storage, which is where most apps save backups to.
Future steps:
Before trying anything crazy, copy the entire phone internal 16gb storage to your computer. If you brick, you can always get a new captivate, copy the junk back and run a restore.
I recommend Titanium backup (donate the $6, the backup/restore is SUPER SUPER fast) along with Clockwork recovery. Clockwork's Nandroid makes full kernel backups and you can boot to recovery from the phone itself. No more adb reboot download or adb reboot recovery.
sorry for my english i have a 19000m the one from bell my phone boot with the GALAXY S LOGO WITH THE MUSIC BUT AFTER THAT BLACK SCREEN CAN I REPAIR THAT ?
Yes, odin is about your only hope here... Even if you boot into the bios and try to do a factory reset it will come up with error after error...
Reflashing will totally wipe and start fresh.
I am curious however. I think i isolated where my problem came from but I am still curious...
Did you try to sideload anything?
It happened to me twice with Bell's Vibrant version. The first time, just after one week after getting it (not rooted). They simply gave me a brand new one.
The second one took 3 week to go dead. Knowing my way around Linux Embedded systems, this time I investigated the issue. In recovery mode, there were error messages saying that the system could not fine the internal flash memory partitions. I could confirm from the kernel messages that partitions on internal sdcard had disappeared. I did factory reset, reflash original stock firmware with Odin, but it did nothing.
I Sent the phone back for repair and three weeks later, they gave me another one (probably refurbished!!).
My phone just turns on, with a black screen and the capacitive buttons lit up. Nothing else happens. When I try to go into download mode, it only goes back to this black screen. I does however detect that the phone is connected driver wise on the computer, but does not show up in Hemidall or Odin. I've tried just about everything
i used ODIN to resotore the phont to stock

Does it light up or display anything and then go black, or does it just do nothing? If it does nothing, you're probably bricked, but try this anyway just in case your phone still has some life in it:
open Odin; press and hold both volume buttons and plug in your USB. If Odin lights up yellow, flash.
If that doesn't work, buy or build a jig, use it, and see if it goes into download mode. If it doesn't, plug the cable in anyway and see if Odin recognizes it. If it does, flash.
If that doesn't work, you're probably bricked. JTAG or Unbrickable Mod are your options from here, neither of which I personally know anything about but you can search around and find someone who can help you.
Hard Bricked= No signs of life, black screen no matter what, no response to USB plug in. Nothing but Unbrickable mod or JTAG will fix, I WOULD SUGGEST getting Unbrickable because you only have to get it once, and it cost the same as JTAG.
Soft Bricked= DL mode access is available(by jig or button combo and usb), recovery too, has some life in it. Can use ODIN/HEIMDALL to fix it.
when the flashing finsh and say done...and show the green light in the ODIN. the phone did not start up
dose this mean it break or dead charger?
as m not shure if the battery is full or not.
anyway i can pass the battery by over it with cuted USB cable?

If you got a green light, I would think it should at least turn on. However, if it was a successful flash, it should charge with the phone off. A bricked phone and a bad charger would both look the same: dead.
Try a different charger or battery if you think your battery could that dead. However if your battery died during your flash, that could also be the cause of your brick.
i charge the battery...and nothing happend
will the USB JAG solve it?
as i read in some post this will not
i need to send to some one to do it by opeing the phont it self

A jig is worth trying, but I suspect it will not solve your issue. You are correct, you need to send it to someone to have it fixed. Send a PM to AdamOutler or Connexion2005 and they can point you in the right direction.

You moto defy never flashed boot loaders since Motorola always had them locked down, and if you didn't know what you were doing flashing the stock Emma's that had boot loaders then it is not the phones fault. You should never really have to flash boot loaders and that is the ONLY risky part in flashing on these phones. Other than that Samsung cappys are almost TRUELY unbrickable (HARD BRICK) unless you mess up flashing boot loaders. WHICH YOU DID WHETHER YOU KNEW IT OR NOT BY FLASHING THE STOCK ODIN. SEND IT FOR UNBRICKABLE MOD, it is cheap repair and you WONT run into your same mistake ever again.

Captivate is un-responsive

Hello All,
I have tried to update my captivate on gingerbread via this guide.
http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile...-3-gingerbread-firmware-on-samsung-captivate/
All is going well and odin was updating the firmware then suddenly my phone screen goes white and odin is stucked at the progress. After waiting 20 mins I uplugged the phone and after that my phone is not turning on nothing is happening and its seems like its dead. Any solution or help in this ?
Thanks in advance.
Imran
Make a jig using this guide. It's not exactly easy but it should get you into download mode again so that you can reflash the stock firmware and start over.
will this work ?
as some told me to buy this from http://usbjig.com/ but they stated on the website " As long as there is something on the screen, the jig should work for you. " and I contact that guy and he said me that it will not work for you as my phone is not giving any response.
if I understand this correctly, if your phone stopped responding while odin was flashing the bootloader files, your phone is likely dead in the water. If it is, then a jig will not help.
Just a question did you try pulling the battery, then try again. I was flashing kf1 one time and it said completed successfully but it was an all blank screen luckily it was dark and there was just 1 tiny pixel lit up still pulled battery inserted battery held vol+ and vol- inserted usb and odin detected.

Samsung Galaxy S HARD BRICKED

Hello,
I tried to flash back to the stock ROM of Galaxy S and then install a new Jetpack 8.2 custom ROM.
Apparently, since I did a bad search on the internet on finding a stock ROM and pit file, i downloaded a pack from xda with the .pit file pda file phone file and CSC file.
I DONT REMEMBER which it was..i selected all the files from the pack through odin and re-partitioning was ticked (i saw it after the flash finished).
So when the processes was completed waited a bit and since the phone was not responding i pulled it out.
Now that's it.. The screen is black - wont power on - wont go into download mode - wont show battery charge while the USB cable is on - nothing (AND YES THE BATTERY IF FULLY CHARGED).
Is there anything i can do to fix it?
p.s: havent tried a usb jig but from searches i made on the internet and on xda forums ppl said it will prolly not work. are there any instruction on how to make one (link would be appriciated)?
Thanks in advance
Best option would be to try a Jig (you can buy one on ebay or dealextreme) and see if you can go into DL mode. Sometime the button combination for Download mode changes depending on the firmware. Try pressing the middle of the volume rocker and power at the same time.
If not wait for a Jib or build yourself one. There should be instruction in this forum on how to build one.
if the jig doesn't work, i would try and return it to the store you got it. I know its a long shot, but the same thing happened to me and I brought it back and she just gave me a new phone! Its worth a shot!

Worth a try. Just tell them it suddenly stopped working and you have no idea what's wrong. It's not like they can power it on and see that you failed flashing it or something. and even if they use a jig they can only get to download mode and reflash it...
even if they say no... a jig costs like $1.5 on eBay. search for "i9000 jig".
Insert if, press the power button and poof, you're in download mode,
the thing is that the phone is not under any warranty or something and the store i got it is far away now !!
JTAG service if you're in the UK: http://www.fonefunshop.co.uk/
The JIG won't work when you brick with a black screen (i.e. bootloader corruption, so no boot at all).
Your only solution is to JTAG it or sadlly, throw it away...
I used a I9003 ROM to flash it !!
Maybe there is still a solution?
also from what i've found on forum sometimes the JIG helped ppl who had a black screen to go into download mode. so how can you be so sure? @ Dan_Aykroyd

As long as your bootloader is intact, the jig will get you to the download mode
Wrongly flashed i9000 with i897 rom has been confirmed to work with the jig, but i don't know i9000 with i9003 rom...
Or you can apply the unbrickable mod if your phone's warranty was voided already, if not, send it back to the shop.

Had that also yesterday putting a new ROM on my GS. The process of writing the PDA halted.. Black screen, no way to start it up en no screen indications of charging etc..
I removed it from my USB, Removed the battery a few times did the three way download mode trick several times and finally I got the download mode screen from where I successfully loaded the new ROM.
So try a few times.. even when you get a black screen !!
let me be clear once more..i downloaded a complete I9003 rom pack from xda... some guy posted..i just missed that it was I9003 and not I9000..
and on odin re-partition was clicked..but the process was completed successfully even thou after that the phone wont start or go into download mode :/
i used not only PDA and PIT files but 2 more was included as well :/ so what i am asking is if this could really have damaged the bootloader or not

Try jig first.
Next try JTAG or UNBRICKABLE mod.
Then Try a service centre.
in case it wokes up.. anyone has links for stock rom and pit to flash with odin?
thanks again
There are some ways, when already got into DL mode is best to reflash with 812.pit file and then again with 512.pit file. After I bricked my phone and got "death" screen (God I was crying) I found way of taking up DL mode (hopefully SGS is pretty-hard to brick). Others than that try to connect to your phone via usb (remember to first inset usb and then battery) and hold ALL of the buttons on your phone. Screen must flash about 3 times and then release volUp to get DL mode combo. I hope that will help you as me.

[BRICKED AGAIN !] Black screen, no bootscreen, no detection

Yesterday after unbricked my note from lpy brick (for the 5th time), I tried to flash a stock rom with a pit file (found somewhere on xda, special 16gb pit file for restoring bricked device) but the flash stuck at the begginning so I unplugged it.
Now my phone is unable to go in Download mode, recovery mode neither normal mode.
The screen stay black whatever I do, I've tried all the combinaison possible...
I tried to put it in charge all the night but now the problem is still here.

ur phone still ok but u need do manually ...
1st-take out ur battery
2nd-put it back
3rd-Put your Galaxy Note into download mode by holding down Volume Down, Center button, and Power button together for about 10 seconds.
after that press volume up , then connect ur device to odin , flash new fresh rom without pit file
Your phone seems to be totally unresponsive; that sounds like the ultimate hard brick to me.
Take it to the nearest service centre.
USB jig
Did you try putting your phone to download using USB jig ? There are many articles relating to that . Sometimes the phone may not charged when its bricked . So get it charged from somewhere else , or may be from your friend who has note and try using USB jig . It might work , no guarantee , try your luck , else be ready to spend almost half what you paid for your phone to change the motherboard !

similar type of brick....and the suggestion given by the SSC is better to buy a new mobile since they have to replace the main board....(without warranty)..and cost will be around (Dhs.1150) that is almost half the price of new mobile....
btw i have tried jig also but no luck...
I have the same problem with my galaxy note.
i treid everything no reaction
pls has somebody an idea for me ?
Same problem with me.
Weird, I had a I91000 for a year, flashed everything and never had any problems. Never got close to bricking it.
I did this:
Rooted it with this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1501719 - OK
Ran again CWM.
I put the latest nightly from CM9. When I started flashing it, it hung. I turned off my cell (no other option, it was stuck), now it won't turn on.
Whoa... What did I do wrong? I admit I was anxious and didn't take the proper care I should've, I was very anxious, but, wow... I wasn't expecting it to be so easily brickable.
Do I have any hope left?

[Q] Hardbricked? Any way out of here?

Hi guys,
I'm in a problem with my GNote... I am (or was) running Android 4.0.4 stock from Samsung, then today completely out of the blue the phone froze and I had to reset, then it was stuck in the Samsung Galaxy Note logo screen. I tried removing the SIM and SD card, etc but nothing. Then I tried reinstalling the ROM via Odin but it got stuck in "Writing NAND...". Then I read in a forum that I could try a repartitioning with the PIT for my memory size (16 GB). I tried this but it got disconnected in the middle (the cable connector is a bit unstable) and now I can't get it to boot ANYTHING. The screen is completely black and Odin doesn't recognize the phone, can't get into recovery mode, etc.
Any idea? My tel company told me that it has a little marking that looks like the phone was hit and so they can't accept it for warranty tech service. I will try Samsung Service Center directly but before that, is there anything I can do???
Thanks!!

Is it starting up? If note just remove ur battery for around 10 mnts, then insert that try pressing vol down + power + home for 20 seconds and then press vol +, just check if ur pc could detect the device and also if the battery is enough charged.
If this detects ur device, u have chances or else only jig is the option.
Hope 4 the best
Press THANKS if this helped u :fingers-crossed:
I don't think even jig is an option now... the phone screen is completely black, it doesn't even get into the logo screen... going to Samsung right now.
jig mite help you.. cuz even when the phone doesnt boot up .. the jig mite force it to download mode.. check with that.. if not then get it to the samsung service.. how did u reset... were u rooted? stuck on NAND write is not a good sign

Why not?
The Jig costs 2-3 US$ from Ebay, China...
Give it a try, its simple:
- remove battery
- put the Jig in
- wait a bit and put the battery back
- wait, pull battery out, pull Jig out
- connect the phone via USB to your PC, put battery back and start Odin
And if you are a lucky man you can flash a new firmware via Odin.
If you have an corrupt bootloader, Jig helps.
If there is a hardware problem you need a new maniboard.
How you described your Note there is possible only a corrupted bootloader ( Jig ) or a dead mainboard ( Samsung repair ).
Hmmm I'd say there is some serious problem. Originally (yesterday) my Note was working OK and then spontaneously (I didn't do anything or bump it or anything like that, I was just writing an email) it froze and so I used the reset combination (power+home buttons), then it entered into boot loop, it started and when it got to the Galaxy Note logo it rebooted, it did this 2 or 3 times and then it was stuck in Note logo. I took out the battery, put it back in, the same. I waited 10 minutes with the battery out, again the same results.
But I could get into recovery mode, so I tried re-flashing my ROM (LRQ Samsung stock from Germany, this was the only flash I did in my Note since last year when I bought it, I had 2.3.6 and then last month I updated to 4.0.4 via Kies official download and then using Odin I flashed the LRQ Samsung 4.0.4 stock because it has new features like the 3D gallery) but it got to "Writing NAND..." or something like that. I tried this several times and it was always the same.
So I read somewhere that I could try repartitioning the memory using Odin and the PIT file for my memory size (16GB), I tried this but just when I was in the process, the USB connector (which is a bit loose in my Note) disconnected for a second and reconnected and it was all. Phone dead. I'm guessing there's nothing there in the memory to boot from or to... so I'm taking it to Samsung.

your Gnote is totally got a called ( brick ) same my gnote but it is revive via repartition.. with 2GB loss
first you do is make sure your battery is full charge and forced your Gnote into DOWNLOAD MODE.....
how to forced to download mode?
1 press home button + volume down then press power button,, if result is not lucky...... go to second way
2 use jig for download mode
(a) remove batt,,
(b) then attach the jig to usb port
(c) then put back the batt,,, then wait almost 60second
(d) after 60sec, remove jig then press volume up,..... one press only.... it shown black screen but the system status is download mode.

Well I already left my Note in my cell company, it is within warranty period and I hope they can fix it. The only problem is that it has a slight marking that looks like a bump on the side and they said that this could void the warranty, but they will give me a budget if it has to be paid for, I hope they don't have to change the whole mainboard, and if they want to charge me I'll take it to Samsung directly as a last chance. After that, I guess it's jig.
What really gets to me is that this started as a sort of spontaneous error, I didn't do anything to the phone before the initial freezing and unability to boot. The problem is that then I tried the PIT stuff. Well, let's see what happens.
Thanks for your suggestions!!
