I have a Samsung captivate AT&T running gingerbread 2.3.5 as of today. My phone was rooted, I use SuperOneClick to root. Since putting on gingerbread 2.3.5 I am no able to root with SuperOneClick v2.3.1. Can anyone tell me how to get rooted again? SOC hangs at 7 waiting for device

Try the fugu root method?

What is that?

Search dev section. Fugu root kernel should be with a KF1 1 click. You will need a kk4 kernel. Alternatively you can just flash corn or samurai kernels they have root in cwm.

First, thanks for your help...I have been working on learning more to do that fugu method and now under stand I have to get that KF1 click flashed first...
Second, I see you are running ICS on your captivate? Is it rooted? Or did you have to root it?
Somewhere I read that custom ROM are already rooted? Does that mean if I put ICS on my captivate it will be rooted?
My phone is the AT&T captivate Galaxy S....
Thanks again, I am trying to decide if I should continue working on rooting my gingerbread 2.3.5 or just put on ICS?

do you even understand what 'root' is?
it sounds like you dont.

No just flash the fugu root kernel THEN use the kernel for the rom you are using (KK4 or w/e)

Roms are rooted. Like I said you could try Samurrai Kernel or Corn kernel (kk4) I think both offer root in CWM. Don't jump to ICS untill you get a hang of everything else.

Thanks again...yes I understand root...

Yes, I do know what root is...we have two captivates I897 that was running 2.1 unrooted. I upgraded both to 2.2 and rooted both phone from what I have learned here on the forums.
I have finally been able to upgrade both our phones to GB 2.3.3 and have both ROOTED via the Fugu method thanks to your post and explanation. Sure do appreciate you time.
We are now looking to get two B&N NC ereaders and use them as Android Tablets...I am looking to buy one 8, 16, or 32 GB bootable micro SD card pre-loaded with Android 2.3X Gingerbread or CyanogenMod
7.1.0.
I am going to check here to see if I can find any. If you know where to get one please let me know.
Thanks

Help with jv rom versions.

Hi
I currently have an vodafone unlocked galaxy running bujv9 rom. and cf-root XWJVH kernel. phone is rooted.
I been looking at kernels which support voodoo sound and other stuff as my one does not.
How do i go from a jvh rom and kernel to say a jvr kernel and rom which supports the voodoo stuff.
Is it a simple wipe then CWM flash new rom then odin jvr kernel. or other way around. Not sure.
Sorry still learning galaxy flashing. well different from HTC flashing.
Cheers.
If you want to try latest rom and a kernel with all features flash stock JVS in odin and then flash Darkcore 4 or Semaphore 1.7 in odin

Your desired rom should have kernel so no need for flashing twice.
You will probably get away with factory reset and cwm flash. Any probs you may have to flash stock first.

There are apps that will do this, but may not work properly (depending on a lot of things). If you're unsuccessful with the app, or if you'd rather another way, the main to go about it is to flash a kernel that is already rooted.
Thanks for your reply, my problem is that i can't find the right cf-root kernal and also because phone locked to network my build number is bujv9,

root captivate with 2.3

Hey guys how can i root my captivate with officila 2.3 can i just use superoneclick root or do i have to odin back to froyo.
What official 2.3 ?? Rogers ?? Is so, then there's already a lot of thread info on this. If not see below...
Use the FuguRoot Kernel swap method.
See thread here.

I saw this thread in developement as well and was confused by it for a minute. But yes, as the guy above me said there has been no official 2.3 release for the USA so the only option to root is the fugu method with a kernel swap.
If this is a Rogers network captivate then the answer is different. But first, we need you to tell us more about the situation. If you indeed have a captivate running on ATT with the 2.3 official gingerbread then please take a picture of the About Phone screen so we call all see it as this would indicate a probable soon release of the 2.3 for all captivate users.
is a att phone but the phone already had 2.3 idk how but anyways ill be trying fugu method

Wow. Please take a picture or screenshot of the about phone screen as this would be to my knowledge the first time we here at XDA have seen an ATT captivate with the official 2.3 release. It really would be some big news so help us out here.
After rooting would the kernel give me cwm too?

Honestly, every bit of information on here could potentially brick your phone since nobody on here has messed with an "official" 2.3 release. I have no idea if that kernel will give you CWM but I do know what your stepping into could be potentially hazardous due to the lack of knowledge on any official att 2.3 release.
No the FuguRoot Kernel doesn't give you CWM Recovery, you'll have to flash the Boog KH3 kernel to get it.
how about if i odin back to froyo and also will the fugoo kernel work on att and where can i get it?

See my post #2 above for the link to the FuguRoot Mod kernel thread --- this kernel is just used to gain Root. And then you swap back to the stock kernel or better yet since you are using Odin, you could just flash to the matching boog kernel to gain CWM Recovery. boog has put together kernels for kh3, ki1 and ki2, so just be sure to choose the correct one. Choose a .tar one first and that will get you CWM. Then you can choose the .zip latest kernel for the base (kh3, ki1, ki2) that you are on. And be sure to thank boog for his contribution to this community.
I believe the kh3 kernel will work on the official gingerbread that Rogers released, as stated by Nick0703 in post 8. May want to do a quick scan of the posts in boog's thread to verify that, if that is the kernel that you are needing. And there should be posts in that thread by those on Rogers reporting how the kernel is working.

Here's the steps you need to do:
- Flash your stock GB rom first.
- Flash the zimage-root.tar file in Odin
- Let phone boot to Fugu Fish
- Power off phone, reboot to download mode
- Flash kernelKF1.tar file in Odin.
- Reboot.
At that point, you're on stock gingerbread with root capabilities. You shouldn't have had to re-flash the stock GB, as it took root away again.
And also, there should b a kj3 .tar under the attachments at the title of that thread, so u can flash it instead of kf1.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using xda premium
^ Like he said. Flash the correct kernel, not KF1. Look around for the correct kernel. What 2.3.5 are you using? KJ# or KI#? Wich ever might be look for a kernel in Dev.
If all you are looking for is root, the above method works really well. Although, if you are familiar with vodoo and want to include it after you root, it may be easier to flash one of the new kernels that have have root and vodoo such as the samurai kernel. Just another thought, hope you find what you're looking for.

correct kernel
I did not see an attachment on that thread for the kj3 kernel. Do u have a link to the kj3 kernel?
I am running the gingerbread 2.3.5 uckj3
You can run Corn kernel, Samurai Kernel or Boog's KJ3 kernel. Boogs is closer to stock. All of them have CWM, Corn and Samurai have Voodoo lag fix. I believe Samurai and a version of Corn have rooted kernels, I could be wrong.

That worked...I used Boog's kj3 kernel.
Next step?
Now that I am rooted, what is the best step for applying a lag fix?

Lol What he said ^.
^ Lol... ur post # 9
edit: gbrethen, we are not laughin at ya, so don't take offense. I'm laughin at myself because I have gone in circles like this many a times.
Awesome...
Thanks! Now where can I get custom boot animations?
Check Theme subsection for captivate. In theory any animation should work assuming they are made for the correct resolution. You just have to make sure its named right. Though I know some kernels accept both names for it.
Lock Screen
Are there any custom lock screens that can be flashed using cwn? or how would I go about changing my default lock screen?
Uh to my knowledge lock screens are build in the rom. Though I've seen like 1 lockscreen that was made to flash over default but don't know if it applies for KJ3.
Lock Screen
Well, if I use an app for the lock screen (such as swirl), is there a way to disable the built in lock screen?

Question about Rogers KK4

Hey guys, I know it may seem a little tedious or pointless, but I want to put the stock kk4 ROM on my Rogers captivate, however I don't want to see AT&T when I boot up. People say that the KK4 ROMs are the most stable, better than Froyo, which I was so tempted to go back to due to lame battery life and so many force closes, email problems, etc. So 1) Is it possible to see this Rogers, or is there a stock KK4 (GB) 2.3.5 I assume, ROM? Is it a good idea to keep my KK4 or should I go back to some 2.2 stuff? Thanks for your time guys really appreciate the input!

To do that you need to change your Param.lfs and get a kernel with a different bootscreen. I haven't used corn lately to know if THAT kernel has a different screen, but I know its the only kernel build from source to date. You can look up mobiletechvideos.com for how to change param.lfs. GL

Try i9000 GB bootloader if u want to avoid the at&t bootscreen. You should try Apex 12.3 it's very great rom
Sorry for reviving an older thread, I was in the process of moving. Part of the question was whether or not I should stick to a kk4 "i897" romn my rogers captivate or go to ICS or to 2.2. Again thanks I really appreciate it.
Nothing to do with this thread but Usually OP for ICS roms have their own instructions. If you are on KK4 with Korn Corn just flash from there (might need to flash twice depending on rom). Like I said follow OP instructions but you should be good from kk4.
KoRn is a band, I think you meant Corn

Help to downgrade to Gingerbread

Morning,
I've got my GNote running a stock ICS ROM rooted with Dr. Ketan method, temporary CWM.zip / install SUBusybox.
I really want to start experimenting with custom ROMS and such but given the issue with ICS Kernel I want to downgrade to GB, root and have the option to safely mess about without fear of turning the beloved Note onto a paperweight...
I've been reading across this forum a while now and there's a few things I've came across, but I'd like to know the easiest way to revert to GB..
From what I see it need to download PC Odin, a UK GB Stock ROM and install it via Odin.
Anything I'm missing out here? Do I need to flash a safer CF-Root or Abyss kernel first?
Sorry for the questions but this is much different to the HTC Desire I messed with daily without problems..
Thanks,

to revert to GB its as simple as flashing a GB Firmware in ODIN
Then when you are on GB, Flash a kernel like speedmod, Which will give you CWM + Root too ! Or just root the stock GB kernel, which ever suits you
Then flash away

Kinda feel a bit out of my depth here, Given I use the phone for work also I'm reluctant to brick the little son of a *****..
That said, I want to get off of ICS until they (Samsung) sort this issue out
Phone shows Running:
Android: 4.0.3
Baseband: N7000xxLPT
Kernel: 3.0.15-N7000xxLQ2
I have the root i was after, but just wondering if it's worth waiting for a fix from Samsung before i mess about a little more ..
PC Odin seems easy enough - issue is I can only seems to locate a Carphone Warehouse GB UK ROM - Guess this is not full of carrier bloatware?
Damn I'm edgy !
