[Q] low signal - HTC Incredible S

Have any one noticied that when you hold 4n upside down signal improves?and pls if any one has antena mods let me know.I get lots of miss calls etc.

Dude that is f***ed up. Lol wtf.
There is a mod probably 60 posts back or so. Just search this thread for "mod" it'll come up. Was more of a magiver thing really using tin foil to increase the antenna size.

Thanks for quick reply. I too used alu mod earlier but no help.Thats whay asked.

If you get a low signal it means your antenna is a bit messed up. It's located at the back cover of your phone. You can 1) take it off and latch it back on your phone properly. 2) send it to htc and tell them your antenna's messed up or 3) smack your phone a few times ( worked for me when my signal was low ) haha
BUT! I can be wrong tho

Incredible S: Antenna in battery case

Can't remember who asked, but I got one of these for my missus (really, really nice phone BTW, thinking of getting one for myself!), and I know someone mentioned the contacts on the inside of the battery door, and mentioned it could be for NFC. Unfortunately not, it is the antenna as when you take the cover off, you lose phone signal.
Something to watch if you are thing about an aftermarket extended battery
i'm really like this phone. i'm ready for incredible S although i got iphone4 already.
I'm not sure I like the idea of in built antenna. Sounds pricey in the event of having to replace the back cover for any reason over time ...
Fantastic phone! though some one may want to check out the signal drop if you hold the phone at the bottom,, try the *#*#4636#*#* phone information then hold phone in palm around bottom does signal drop? mines never dropped a call but does drop!
hi,
i did took some pictures of the antenna of the IS, sorry for the bad quality but i only had my old touch pro camera
@Jazd71 mine does also drop -89dbm to -101dbm
Hehe ur right ... Wonder why it goes to no signal when i remove my sdcard

Oh, then is it possible that GPS reception be affected by the antenna on the case? I found the GPS is much unstable and inconsistent than my Hero.

[Q] 30cm fall makes me have no service...

Hi,
My Incredible S fell from the couch to the floor. Ever since I don't have any service. There is a small 'x' above the bars that show me how "good" my reception is.
I tried doing a hard reset but that had 0 result. When i try to find my provider manually it gives me an 'error while finding network'.
A friend advised me to use the expertise of this forum, so here I am.
Anyone with an idea?
Thanks in advance!
I forgot to mention that everything else works fine.
Model: HTC Incredible S S710e
Android-version: 2.3.3
Did you try to remove and re-insert your sim card ?
Sent from my HTC Incredible S using XDA App
Yes, I did. I also tried the sim card of a friend and it had the same result.
sorry to hear about your problem
i'd check to see if your antenna pins on the back of your phone are still intact
the battery cover of the inc s is also the antenna
see here
if those little gold pins aren't making contact then your phone has no antenna.
if they're broken, you'll need a new back cover.
hope this helps
edit: does wifi work?
Thats not good, hope I don't drop mine anytime soon... I have purchased the extra insurance you can get for $7 a month. But I do hope a $500 phone can take a little more than a 30cm fall.
I've checked and everything seems to be in order. The little golden pins are intact and there is just a tiny little scratch on the cover. And I do mean tiny!
Wifi works, but my mobile network doesn't.
if your wifi works then it's probably not an antenna problem
with your sim card in, in phone type *#*#4636#*#*, this opens testing
press phone info it should show your current network and signal strength
if it shows you're not connected, or it can't see any network then i really have
no idea. :s :s

People can't hear from if I am using phone on my left ear...but OK on right ear !

I got the HTC One black for sprint a few months ago.
(I have had a slim case on it that barely covers the front face, mostly the back. It's a barely there case.)
problem I am having is that everytime I switch the phone to my left ear and hold it with my left hand, the other party says "i sound muffled" -
they cannot hear me.
Then, I immediately switch to my right ear, and they say "oh, now i can hear you fine.."
I have tried this with 3 different people and they all were able to predict exactly when I switched my phone from right to left and vice versa.
So, there seems to be a problem with my phone. anyone else having this issue? My friend has HTC One silver for t-mobile and he doesn't have this problem.
It's under warranty so I'm thinking of getting it replaced. Maybe go with the silver one?

make sure you are not covering up your noisecanaling mic (the hole next tot the camera) if it is being covered it will not work correctly. no need to send in your phone when it is not an issue with the phone.
Happens to me all the time too.
The main microphone at the bottom is on the left side, and when holding it with my left hand my little finger instinctively hold it from below, covering the mic.
Only with my left hand.

I am holding the phone only from the sides when this problem happens.
I am not covering up any part of the mic on top or bottom.
During my tests, I was careful to make the calls while holding the phone with just
3 fingers, making sure I'm only holding phone from the sides.
So, we can definitely rule out me accidentally covering up the mic.
The problem is consistent and happens everyday
Maybe your phone doesn't like left-handed people... Maybe it's got something against the creative gene... Seriously though, I have people tell me I sound muffled occasionally - maybe every tenth phone call. I don't see any consistency though so I can't wait to hear what you find. And I think I always use my right hand because I hear better in my right ear.

It's something to do with the gyro. Someone made a mod to deactivate it during calls to solve this problem. Keep searching. I'll post back if I find it.

I immediately thought of this as the cause of the problem - the gyro.
The phone is being naturally slightly tilted in " / " direction ( as opposed to " \ " right handed)
I went to the local sprint store. The tech there was puzzled when I explained to him what was happening.
Then, I stepped outside of the store and called him on his landline. 60 seconds into the call, he was not able to hear me when I was
holding phone to my left ear - when I switched to the right ear, he heard me just fine. He was amazed , as he'd never seen anything like this.
I paid the $50 and he ordered me a replacement - which will arrive tomorrow.
Hopefully, I do not have this problem on the new device.
Will update in a few days after testing new phone.
frustrated...
went to the sprint store when they called me, saying my replacement phone was in.
i went there and was totally disappointed. they tried to give me a phone with scratches on the front / back.
I was not having it. I told them no way, i paid for a new phone 2 months ago, and i will not take some scratched up phone as replacement.
they said fine, they will order another one and ship to my house. it will take 5-7 days.
next day, i get an email saying that the htc one is on back order and there is not ETA date. So, im basically stuck with my phone until god knows when...
i called the store back to complain, spoke to manager, and he said there are no other options, i have to wait.
So, im going to try to call another local sprint corporate store to see if they can help, but at this point, pretty pissed off with sprint.
I would get rid of sprint I think that's your problem, not the phone

Curved and scracthed Xperia Z1

In the 4 years time i NEVER broke a Smarthphone and only a single scratch in the screen.
This is the first of the (Iphone1-Sony x10-Samsung note 1, note 2, now x1) 5 smarthphones to have a fully scratched screen and broke down.
Im sure of the fact that the upcoming year i wont be having a smarthphone of this premium class or insurance must cover it (I doubt it)
I noticed my Xperia Z1 was heavenly scratched today.
Then i went looking for XDA to say this issue and the screen went weird.
The touchscreen did what he wanted and not me. So i became angry.
How the **** can this happen!
Then the screen went off. I was like W T Hell!???
LED flash turned on and stayed that way.
I wanted to press reset button and came to the conclusion the phone is curved...
How???
Screen doesnt turn on, Computer doesnt detect it.
Lets press Reset button.
Led goes off. But nothing else works anymore.
Volume up and power or volume down doesnt work either.
Sony says i got to contact them and send the phone.
Wich will i quess 100% result into me paying a big amount of money to fix it...
The phone doesnt turn on and has items that are not allowed to be seen by others (classified) .
I got to send it to the insurance company.
Anybody knows how to get these files of the phone?
Computer doesnt see it. And it doesnt turn on.

It dropped from half waist-shoulder (Chest?) height onto the shower mat.
It came out after it as a curved phone.
It is utterly destroyed. Not even a single piece of glass is broken.
The inner part is broken thought...
When i press power button it lowers the brightness of the flash light.
But i dont need the data inside the phone.
I need to get RID of it.
So the insurance company cant get it.
How can i do this?
I cant touch the phone ferther (Breaking it more). If i was allowed i would do it...

If i get a new one. If... I am never going to take it off.
But look at this:
Phone 100% intact. Except for the insides.
So the outside is strong as hell. Better then any other phone.
But the inside wich is the most important of a phone... Yeah you know it.
My Note 2 had some paint of the sides (grey bezel). Costed me 25 euros and 4minutes to replace.
This phone on the other hand.
I either have it insured 100% (own fault) and have to pay 250 own risk. Or i dont get it insured. (Insurance for everything in the house including electronics)
My phone insurance was still on Note 2. I just had the Xperia Z1 new and didnt put it over yet.
F my life!
If it isnt insured. Well i still got a Sony ericsson Cybershot K770 wich is like??? 7-8 years old...
I cant pay 700 euros for a new premium phone

goto love this.. you dropped your phone and are asking for a software repair..
sort it with your insurance, and if you don't have insurance, tough!
New pictures and a video.
In the video you can see it isnt straight anymore at all.
It is curved like the Samsung galaxy curve. But then the lenght direction instead of the weidth.
I hate it to see it like this.
And i gave my Galaxy note 2 to my dad as birthday present. But i have to get it back now for a few days till i got a cheaper replacement for my Sony or insurance cover.
I got a budget of 200,- atm for a new phone if i must.
So i hope i can get atleast 500 euro out of insurance or full cover of the 750 euros.
But i wont be buying an Sony Z1 anymore if i can choose.
I am going back to plastic phones.
They are more premium to me then this junk...
How can a phone go in a curve like this from such a height???
I hope Sony replaces it. Apple replaces an iPhone for 150€, not matter what you did to it.
I don't want to put my Z1 into an ugly case...

I think you must be blind.
I am ASKING HOW TO GET MY DATA OFF. Not a software repair.
There is classified data on the phone. I need to get it out.
I am not saying i need the software fixed so it runs again.
There is something snapped inside or popped out of the flex cable connectors.
And i am not going to open it so my insurance will say get lost.

Simple answer to your question is no, the only thing you can try and do and thats if your phone will even do this is to use flashtool to flash a firmware and this will wipe your phone atleast all your "classified data" will be deleted. If the phone is that messed that it wont do that then your stuck im afraid....sorry

Are you 100% that you didn't had it in a rear pocket and sat on it?
Then the sealings was compromised and the phone died in the shower?
It sounds more likely than if a drop did all that hardware damage...

I thought the same. That kind of bend does not occur from a drop within reasonable hight, not even beyond so. It looks just like it's been in a back pocket and sat on, almost forcibly so.

Exactly my thought...
This phone with it's weight not even being 200g, don't build up the force form dropping to bend it self...

Verizon LG G2 GPS Fix Solution

I had a problem with my LG G2 Verizon Smartphone. The GPS wouldn't lock on and didn't know which direction I would even be going ( I searched I couldn't find a solution.). I ran into this app and it works, Assisted GPS Injector. It's available in the market and it worked immediately and took care of all the issues I was having. I'm sorry if this has been posted here before, but I just wanted to make sure everybody knew becaue I tried many things to get the gps to work right and none of them worked until I used this app..

I tried a bunch of attempts at getting my GPS to fix (different roms, editing gps.conf, using various gps apps, etc), but after replacing it 3 times with VZW I got it. Some of the HW is known to crap out for GPS so if you have warranty with VZW, don't hestitate to call and swap devices.
I'll try this tommorow, been having problems with my GPS as well, it'll lock but it will be sort of erratic/not accurate and lose signal. I'm on my third replacement device so I really don't wanna have to do all that again..

I have no idea if there's a difference other than ads on the pro or free. I paid the .99 for the app. It worked for me instantly. Clicked on the app then on the gps icon and away I went and it found my exact location immediately and kept locked on the entire trip. I only tried it because I read in the reviews somebody had similar issues with their lg g2 and it worked for them. I'm sorry it didn't work for you. I had downloaded A-GPS Xtra and reset all my previous gps data first. Although that didn't help my situation by itself it could of possibly helped.
On my first G2, the GPS wasn't great no matter what ROM I used, it didn't even work right out of the box. The replacement I got has been working on literally every every ROM I used. The original didn't work on any firmware release either. I tried many different apps and config files. The one I'm on now is perfect. I guess it's just bad luck sometimes I guess if still stock one can always go to Verizon about it

I didn't have a choice about taking it back to Verizon. I bought it off of CL and it was probably one the original owner had replaced. So, returning it isn't an option for everybody. I tried many things that didn't work also, but this app did and it's why I shared.
I've had a similar issue on my sprint version. Doesn't make it unusable but sometimes I will magically be driving on the wrong side of the interstate or of the road backwards. I just hope that it's just a software bug

Any updates how to fix this?
I have been going back and forth with Verizon and the GPS on my G2. I actually have my third replacement phone waiting for me when I get home. The last rep I spoke with said that it is a known issue that is to be fixed with an upcoming update. I would assume that update to be 4.4.2 but I haven't heard whether or not the GPS is any better in the leaked OTA. He did tell me that they have received the update from LG but it was currently being tested.
The GPS issue is actually a hardware issue. There is a springy connector on the phone that tries to keep a steady connection to the anttenae strip on the battery cover. It is on the side opposite of the SIM card.
Here is a picture from another XDA thread by JTNiggle that shows the insides of the VZW LG G2.
First picture shows the battery cover and you can see the small square copper connector for the GPS antennae on the right hand side. Second picture shows on the right side of the phone above the battery the little springy copper connector for the GPS sensor on the phone. These are the two areas I used very tiny pieces of electrical tape on to make a solid connection. This has 100% resolved my issue with GPS signals and I have been sporting this change for over a week now. I get a signal lock between 3-7 seconds depending on where I am at (inside or outside) and the days weather. I have done this on a total of 4 phones now and all four phones no longer have GPS signal lock issue. Just make sure you use a non metal tool to pop the battery cover off so it doesn't scratch up the shiny silver bezel strip.

I honestly don't think all the software updates in the world would fix this problem. It is a physical hardware issue that is causing the problem.

This is great info! Could you clarify just a little what exactly you did with the electrical tape? Like put a tiny piece "under" the flex connector? I haven't actually taken mine apart yet so maybe this would be clearer then... Also is there a chance this would help my compass? I can't seem to get it calibrated and working.

On the phone itself there is a small copy flex like connector. If you look on the link that shows the two images for the inside of the phone and the inside of the battery cover, you will see on the phone the tiny little flex connector I am speaking about. With gentle tender care slide some electrical tape (fold it together sticky sides in) underneath the flex connector. This will help it keep a solid connection to the antennae plate on the battery cover. I have done this on 4 phones total one of them mine. All four VZW LG G2 phones had the same issue. Depending on exactly where you were at you would get a weak lock/signal when needing to use GPS on the phone. After this was done the signal is nice and strong and locks within 3-7 seconds for me (yes I have timed it). This is both indoors and outdoors. The G2 is able to lock onto GPS just like any of my other phones in the past and also the MotoX.
I haven't had to modify the GPS.conf from stock (this never worked for me anyways as it wasn't able to acquire a signal 99% of the time). GPS just now works.
Will this also fix the issue of showing that I am like 3-4 houses away, while when I was on JB it showed me I was next door(or at least in between next door and my actual location).

I cut a strip of black elec tape about 3/32" x 3/8" and doubled the end to make approx 3/32" of the end doubled. this left a short tab that I could use to manipulate the doubled part under the flex connector and then stick in place to secure it there (or remove later if desired). My GPS and compass are both very responsive and accurate now. I'm also using GPS Status and I've used an app called GPS Injector that I believe help but not as much as this mod. :good:
It must be batches, my GPS is about flawless.

Yep was easy, I got this idea of course from seeing that image I linked in my previous post and I saw the inside of the phone.

Do you mind posting some pictures of how/where you applied the tape? Thanks!

Member Ainver posted a link with pix just a few posts up.

Good luck
