It may also be some app that you have to block network such as droidwall. By the way, are you using at your place? Some public networks block it...

I don't have any firewall in my ace I connect using wifi

"Android: Viber Connection Issues
Posted by Viber Support on 31 May 2011 06:09 AM
When you place a free call via internet (WiFi or 3G) it involves quite a bit of routing and system updates. It is also dependent on the quality of both user's devices. Also please bear in mind that other applications may be running in the background of your device, or your friend's device, which may compete with bandwidth. And, be aware that all users do not have similar devices, and Viber may run better on some devices than others (please visit http://support.viber.com for a list of tested devices).
A weak or inactive connection can cause errors such as: "setup not being able to proesss and proceed", "contact list not visible or not properly updated immediately", "no clear audio reception", "no internet error message" (when in fact you do have internet running), etc.
Connection issues may be caused by different reasons such as:
* System upgrades on our end or no internet on your end - you will receive a "not connected to internet" error, you may have trouble receiving a registration code or Viber might ask for you to re-register.
* Viber friend is not connected to the internet
* Viber friend’s number is not listed correctly in address book
* WiFi Firewall settings
* Service provider issues
We recommend that you try to connect at a later time. If this still does not resolve the issue, try to reinstall the Viber app.
If you are using WiFi, and you have never been able to connect through it, it may be that your firewall ports are closed.
* WiFi Firewall settings:
Please have the systems administrator go to the WiFi firewall settings to make sure that the below ports are open for both sides:
1) TCP 5242
2) TCP 4244
3) UDP 5243
4) UDP 9785
Here is a short list of other things that might help if the above did not work:
* Turn your phone off, and then reinitiate it.
* Uninstall/Reinstall:
* Check that your contact phone number is listed properly for Viber calling
In order that your contacts see you as a Viber user and connect with you, your telephone number listed in their contact list must be the exact same number as the number with which you have registered with Viber and vice- versa."
I highlighted the ones that i think it might be causing your problem. I would check your router configurations...

Bypass internet restrictions in android?

Ok here's the thing. I cant access certain websites(mostly filesharing sites) due to my country's 'anti piracy policy'. Researched, n found out that they do it by manipulating the DNS. I can access them using my PC by changing the connection setting protocol n stop using auto dns server. I changed the preferred DNS server to Google's.
Then,is there any way i can do it in my O2X? Coz i prefer to get online using my fone rather than pc.
If anyone know how to do it,can u guide me step by step please? Really appreciate it. Thanks in advance.
Btw im running CM7 RC1 with latest vork kernel. Bb 606 Ril 606.

Do you try using a VPN app? Just try a free one such as KUKU VPN+ search it on google play and check out if you can access to blocked sites.

Thanks,the wifi direct is only enabled in settings, is there any application for file transfer? I find the "wifi cast" application from the wifi direct show video.Is it the original apk of LG 970?
If anyone have any info on wifi direct, pls let us know. I saw the video on youtube that someone showing how to send file from a P970 to another P970 with an application called 'wifi cast'. But it is not on my P970 and cannot find anything on the net.
I bought two P970, one for me and one for my son. I was trying to send files from one to another, but can hardly do anything after connection in the 'setting'.

You may have to configure and pair the two phones.
I found an app on google play store and apparently its the only app on play store which utilizes the wifi direct capabilities.
The app name is "Wifi Shoot (beta)" You can checkout the demo video in the app page for how to use this app.
The app still in beta. I was able to send a file using this app over with wifi direct from my HTC One X to my friend's Galaxy Note. However i was unable to do vice versa. that is, i was unable to receive files from other device to my HTC One X. I used this app on my HTC One X and my friend's HTC One X and tried for hours to send and receive files but without any success. Only success was, i was able to send file to my friends' Galaxy Note. I believe on HTC devices, the implantation of wifi direct itself is not stable.
I searched for many apps in play store but found this app to be the one which actually uses the wifi direct technology. Looking forward for the stable version.

[Q] Airdroid

Hey, I don't know if any of you use airdroid to sync files via wifi, but I downloaded it because wifi file transfer quit working for me. However, this doesnt work either. My browser will say can't to server (have tried multiple browsers). I emailed support, but was wondering if any of you had some insight?
Adfree or adaway wouldn't effect this would they?
Thanks
AirDroid worked fine for me using the default port (and Chrome) . It's possible (and, I think, likely) that your router settings are blocking it in some way. Check those settings or change the port AirDroid uses.
Silly Question: Phone is connected to same wifi network and not using data connection, right?
I've also used File Expert's FTP share to transfer files a good bit. It works well and has an FTP client built-in so you can share between phones too.

I've been using samba filesharing without any issues from stock through revolt and now ginger 1.3. Definitely give it a shot.

Another dumb question: When entering the URL, you're putting :888 at the end of it, right?

Microsoft Exchange - Company Directory

When I was using ported Android on my HD2 (HTC Desire HD), there was an option for company directory which allowed me to find contact details of people within my company.
I'm using Rocket ROM and I can't find this option/it won't pop-up automatically as it did on my HD2. I'm pretty sure also when i was on stock ROM i couldn't find it. Is it actually available in the Microsoft Exchange features that are built-in the Note?
Chose contacts and hold options button until online search appears on the top of page;-)
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
I have done it, the Search indeed pops-up at the top, i type in a name i want to find in the company directory, underneath there's a button 'online search', i click on it, searches but nothing comes out? I tested it with names i know we have in the company directory on our server but no joy...
Im on stock rom and my exchange contact works.
I am using this functionality since I learned it and it works perfect. May be there is a problem with your settings or server...

Maybe you didnt select contacts to sync on exchange?

That what I was gonna say. Make sure contact is checked to sync.
Brilliant find.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
My contacts are indeed checked to synch with my exchange server, so no idea why my 'online search' doesn't work as suggested in a previous reply? Could it be because i have a custom ROM (Rocket Rom) or Kerner (Abyssnote 3.4)?

Context Service stopped working..

Does anyone know what this FC is or what's causing it? It says, "Unfortunately, Context Service has stopped working." When I press ok it just keeps coming up.

Same thing happens on my Galaxy S4 whenever I close the wireless and try to connect through 3g. I can connect to internet just fine but error pop-up makes the phone unusable.

unfortunately, context service has stopped on my note 2. i cannot use my phone until connected to WIFI. kindly help me with this problem. I am new to rooting and everything. I dont know how to replace this context service. Please help.
I had a similar problem with my S5(G900V). I rename the ContextService.apk file to ContextService.apk.nothanks so it wouldn't run and that seemed to fix the issue.
You can read about Samsung's context service here: http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer...ll-collect-user-data-to-share-with-developers.
If you are rooted with Titanium Backup, you can safely freeze the context service... my phone has been running fine for a few months now without it.
go to Setting/Applications/All/Context Service/Clear Cache/Clear Data. its work for me...

I started getting the error message every time I opened "Messaging" & came to look for a solution. Turns out that freezing it to begin with is what was causing it. Unfroze it and Messaging now works fine again.
SOLUTION: Context service is a background task that collects data and send them to samsung. Just switch that under Settings -> Security and ... -> Diagnosis (not to shure, since my phone is German) off and the trobelmaking "Context service" will be shut down.
i know this thread is old but for those other ppl who will encounter this problem. just download another messaging app. it should be good.
