Tutorial: LG P970 (P970H) unbrick/flash using SmartFlash Tool - LG Optimus Black

I NO LONGER SUPPORT THIS THREAD ANYMORE. IF YOU WANT TO HIJACK THIS THREAD CONTACT ME.
SmartFlash Tool completly erases device memory during flashing.
Phone will make Factory Reset at first boot after flashing!
You can upgrade and downgrade. You can downgrade from V20N too!
This also will remove phone lock if you forget unlock code or pattern. (phone lock, NOT simlock or network lock...)
This method doesn't need internet connection.
If you want to flash an LG P970H download correct ROM from link below.
With this solution you can unbrick LG Optimus Black P970.
It fixes bootloop, "ERROR LG Security Team", and BSOD - blue screen with green writings (untested).
Only requirement is ability to enter in to S/W Update mode and not broken hardware.
Tested on: Windows 7 Ultimate x86, x64 and Windows XP Pro SP3.

AFAIK it's the safest & quickiest solution for flashing Black.
Now we only need newest firwares in bin/fls format, eg. V20N. Didn't find that yet.

Yeah, I used this one when I had BSOD way back. And I hope there'd be more. What I'd like to know is are they extracted or came from source? The method how to extract is interesting if they are.

I think that these firmwares "leaked" from LG or were downloaded from their servers.
I will ask the guy who posted these files.
I've downloaded all these firmwares on my HDD as a backup if hosting delete this.
It has approx 20GB.

Hello all expert,
Newbie here and want to be safe in uncharted territory on flashing my phone, never done it before.
Does the "COM Port" matter, how do we know which port# to use.
Thanks,

COM port is automatically assigned when usb is connected. I know in smart flasher, if you select lge mobile usb only one port will be available.

No.
It's only for stock LG ROMs in BIN/FLS format.

You guys has been awesome and informative.
My ultimate gold is to have V20N rooted. Need to get rid of all the bloatware.
I have the German V20N installed and could feel the efficiency in terms with responsiveness and battery compare to my previous V10D
Now.... to get to REDY's cook rom V20N that are rooted.
Do I use this tool to downgrade to my previous stock Rom V10D and have it rooted and install Rom Manager, then use the Recovery menu to install Redy's Rom
do I need to do any wipe before installing Redy's Rom
thank you guys!!
PS: All of these may be boring to the experts, but are very critical to beginners like me.

Nope.
Flashing, Rooting and Unlock-Phone are totally different things.
If your phone is locked to a operator, you need to enter the secret menu by pressing 3845#*970# then enter a unlock code from one of the sub-menu. The code above is assuming that your phone is a Optimus Black P970.

No. This method only unlock code or pattern used to lock phone, not SIM.
In short: this will not remove SIMLock.

Thank you for this, is PERFECT!!!!!!!

HI radkor,
thanks for this tutorial. It is indeed way faster than KDZU or RD. However it doesn't work on my phone. Tried several times (KDZU and RD do not work either).
Phone gets in s/w mode. Tool starts to flash. Shows no errors and phone restarts. Yet it stucks with LG Logo and buttons flashing. Stays like this for hours. I tried several times and also used KDZU and RD with several KDZ-Versions and changing options.
It is strange to me that all the programs tell me that the phone is flashed and the phone restarts, but still gets stuck with LG Logo.
Have you seen this? Or should the Tool definitely work?
THX
Ekkkke

@Ekkkke:
This flashing tool works if phone is 100% hardware OK.
Maybe your phone hardware is faulty...
Did phone made a Factory Reset after flashing while rebooting?
Why it is bricked? You tried to flash wrong firmware or what?

thanks for answering! I rooted the phone once but I did not flash anything. Made one official upgrade a few weeks ago. Then I turned off the phone a few days ago. Now it doesn't start. Always gets stuck with LG Logo and buttons flashing.
When using the tool to flash it the S/W screen disappears, phone seems to reboot but gets stuck again with LG Logo. The tool tells me that everything is complete. How can I see if it makes a factory reset?
Probably you are right and the hardware is broken. I may use the LG Tool to flash official V20N with recovers (that program as well tells me everything went right). Then I probably send it to LG.
This Forum was my last hope. Thanks for helping! And the tool is great and fast anyway!

[GUIDE] Injecting CWM into any kdz update

Hey guys,
I've managed to devise a method to inject the CWM recovery image into the LG Update tool during updating with a kdz.
The basic idea is explained in this post. I took it a bit further. During the updating process, you can replace the recovery image inside the updater's memory. Basically, you can use this method on any LG Updating tool. This guide uses KDZ Updater. The method is great for getting the latest firmware for your region and still get it rooted.
This procedure requires some quick actions in order to succeed. Read through it before attempting to flash. I'm not responsible for anything that might happen in the result of using this guide.
Needed files:
CWMInject
UPK
Latest CWM recovery image for P970
Cheat Engine
1. Run KDZ Updater from UPK with Windows Enabler on.
Select your KDZ file.
2. Run CWMInject with Admin privileges. Select KDZU process. Set CWM image to the recovery image file.
3. Run Cheat Engine. Select KDZU process. Change Value Type to Text and write ANDROID! in the search field.
4. Open Task Manager, go to Processes and sort processes by memory.
5. In KDZ Updater, press Launch software update.
6. Keep an eye on the KDZU process in Task Manager, if it starts growing, it means it has started to load the files into memory and you can move to the next step.
7. In Cheat Engine, press First Scan. If it doesn't find anything, you did this too early. It should find 3 addresses. The last one is what you need.
{

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
8. Copy the found address to CWMInject and press Write Memory. This needs to be done as quickly as possible from the time of finding the addresses.
9. Finish flashing.
Now your phone has CWM recovery installed. You can get into it with "adb reboot recovery". You need the Android SDK for that.
To root your phone, put this Superuser.zip on your SD card and use CWM to flash it.
You don't necessarily have to use KDZ Update. I tried this method with R&D Test Tool and the regular LG Mobile software update. You just need the right process name for CWMInject and Cheat Engine.
That is excellent man. Bin files? Nobody need it anyway. Lol. Profit!

Updated the first post with the guide. Cheers
Confirmed, working with V20F from Orange Romania, using R&D Tool.
CWMInject.exe needs to be run as administrator, in case you're using Win as a non-privileged user.
As an interesting sidenote, I forgot to do a factory reset before (coming from Zeus v4.01b), so I got a bootloop. Easy way to get rid of that: flash a V10 based firmware, it won't recognize the ext4 data partition -> no bootloop. Did a factory reset from there, then repeated the flashing for V20F. Worked like a charm.
Amazing!!!!!!
Awesome! With R&D... the process is "LGUserCSTool". After flashing it boots directly to CWM.
CSE Web upgrade test: (Small server)(for a factory reset)
Flashed V20N with R&D.
It works like a charm. Thank you very much.
Great to see it working for everybody!
If you're feeling adventurous, you can test my updated CWMInject. It has a built in memory scanner, so you can just press Start after you've started updating.
Edit:
Oh yeah, it requires .Net Framework 4 now...

Very nice. I guess the Cheat Engine is no more required.
ETA: maybe it would be a good idea to specify in the manifest that it requires admin privileges.
Yeah, good idea.

I have a Question!... When is the best moment to aply CWMInject?? i want to use R&
__________________________
i solve the question, really works so great!!!
I've usually applied it around the 10% mark, so it gets done at 16% or so. It's worked every time, for all the updating software, since the underlying flashing process seems to be the same for each one.
Yeah, it works very well and together with this trick http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1473781 you can now flash KDZ if it is not for your region.
Didnt work with V20B_00.kdz for India
I did everything as stated in the first post. The Memory of recovery-clockwork-touch-5.8.1.3-p970 was also injected successfully within 10% of flashing. And phone rebooted with new the rom. However, I am not able to get into the CWM. I tried the vol+ hard key while booting, but CWM is not coming. Help!

What is this for?
What is this Android SKD? how is such injection of CWM useful?
It is simple. With CWM injection you can root every KDZ. And with KDZ firmware update fix, you can use R&D Tool and flash KDZ to your phone.
Nice thread.. My sister just got an optimus black, ( And i want to root it) does this method should be with the phone on download mode or what ??
Not very familiar with the way optimus root process is done. I own a GS2
EDIT: Well I did with the phone ON, and USB debug mode ON,/ OFF, also have tried doing [Remove battery,sim,SD] hit vol up and inert the usb cable to enter in download mode.. But always when I click Launch Software Update when it starts to decompress the KDZ file it just got frozen, and (Not Responding)
Any clue ? I´m trying to root a v20a (mexican) version.
Thanks.
I can't open CWMInject, I'm on Windows XP...
not what I did wrong, now my phone does not start this brick

It's unclear from your post, but if you think those are errors...they are not. What you show us is the normal output of using the program. You just need to wait until it finishes completely.
If you actually do get errors, it could be helpful to show us what they look like, although you could of course also just follow the instructions provided by the thread you link to rollback to a previous firmware version.

Yes, I understand. That seems like a likely consequence of interrupting the flashing process, so I was wondering whether he panicked during the flash because of the output of the program and aborted. I mean, why else show us these screenshots?
I agree that he should just flash again to fix it, which should be possible.

Disconnect and connect it , maybe it reassumes the upgrade.
If not, try other method.
If you want to save the downloaded kdz it should be in:

Someone said that stuck at 1% is probably because program can't extract kdz file and if thats true i'll assume either kdz corrupted or program is not running as administrator
So you can try to locate update tool folder and get properties of each exe there compatibility and check run as administrator, this might help

Hello.
If you just want to get into recovery mode, open terminal emulator.
Type
'su'
Allow it and type
'Reboot recovery'
Without '.
Works under cwm.
If this doesn't work.
Use smart flash tool.
(Quoted) ⬇
After flashing your phone should Boot into recovery.
Dont forget to do always a factory reset. If not -> bootloop

ok it seems there is also an other way to enter recovery:
on switched off phone (and only then!) press and hold G-key + volume up and then press power key.
it should boot straight into recovery.
Cant you push recovery through adb/fastboot?

Do you still have cwm and the custom ROM on your phone? If yes, simply download quickboot or rommanager from playstore and hit reboot recovery.

Hi guys,
Tried the two methods from DuffBoon and wash beer - no luck.
I think there is something wrong with gapps as it gives an error when I try to download smth from Google Play- so no option to load any new app.
I go into terminal emulator, input 'su' and have superuser rights, than punch 'reboot recovery', it reboots but no recovery at all.
My diagnosis is CWM and gapps is broken somewhat; SFT or another method is not working for that reason.

But your system is still working? There is an adb flashable cwm recovery from redy06 somewhere here. Google:
Xda cwm touch redy06
And youll probably find it. You can flash it with the device on. There also is a reboot recovery script in the pack, so you can check if it works or not.

Thanks, seems interesting - I will try it and see whether it works or not (currently on Mac)

[GUIDE] LG L Fino Reflashing stock ROM (D290N, D295)

Flashing stock ROM on LG L Fino
Since the device is pretty new and there is no other such guide for the Fino I decided to make one.
Flashing stock firmware on LG devices is universal (for the most part) so this guide will be pretty straight up.
This guide should be compatible with both the Dual Sim Fino and the regular one and all variants between them N/F/G etc.
I will try to make this as noob friendly as possible.

STEPS:
STEP 1: Download and Install the LG DRIVER from here.
You might want to restart your computer after driver installation.
STEP 2: Download LG FLASH TOOL 2014 from here and extract it IN a NEW folder somewhere.
STEP 3: Download a KDZ firmware file from here
BE SURE YOU ARE DOWNLOADING THE RIGHT FIRMWARE FOR YOUR DEVICE (D290N, D295 and so on) OTHERWISE YOUR DEVICE MIGHT BECOME A HARD BRICK!!! LOOK FOR THE DEVICE MODEL BEHIND THE BATTERY!
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
STEP 4: Extract the FIRMWARE.KDZ file IN the same folder as the LG FLASHTOOL 2014.
STEP 5: Enter DOWNLOAD MODE on the device. You can do that by connecting a USB cable to the computer and then pressing and holding the VOLUME UP button while inserting the USB in to the phone.
STEP 6: Start LGFlashTool2014.exe. You should have something like this open:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
STEP 7: In type ALLWAYS choose CDMA.
STEP 8: IN KDZ browse to the KDZ file you extracted earlier and select it.
STEP 9: Select Normal or CSE Flash
Normal Flash: Flash the ROM on top of the current one ( Good for updating firmware)
CSE Flash: Flash the ROM after WIPING EVERYTHING. (Good if testing new ROM or restoring a brick)
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
STEP 10: After selecting either you will be transferred to another screen with data on it. Don't edit anything and just click START
STEP 11: After that you will be yet again transferred to another screen like this:
Dont change or tick anything and just click OK
STEO 12: After that the process of FLASHING will begin.
THIS PROCESS CAN'T BE STOPPED SO BE SURE YOU HAVE EVERYTHING NEEDED TO WAIT FOR 5-20 MINUTES FOR IT TO COMPLETE.
DO NOT UNPLUG THE DEVICE UNTIL IT HAS FULLY BOOTED!
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
If you get an error saying something about failed downloads and whatnot DO NOT CLICK ON ANYTHING! and wait about 15 minutes. The program might just display these errors but the process will continue.
Do not worry if the program says disconnected or crashes at the end of the procedure. This is normal
STEP 13: Enjoy your reflashed device

I have LG L Fino D295. I cannot enter to Download Mode as there is error message "error boot certification verify" and then the device goes black. By removing the battery, put it back and press power button the phone goes normally. Any solution for cannot entering the Download Mode?
I found this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2582142 but I couldn't find the files needed (sbl1.img, aboot.img, rpm.img, tz.img) which I assume the stock files for LG Fino L D295. And not really sure this will help me to enter the Download Mode.
Just as background: when I update the firmware via OTA, the system says that my phone is suspected to be rooted. since then my camera is not working. Clear cache and data didn't help.
Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Try reinstalling LG driver and try plugging in another USB port on your PC.
So I tried to do some driver version I installed, each USB port podłanczałem and all the time is this problrm on your computer is at 2% and continue on your 0% and nothing happens, I wanted to also add that when I turn on the tele. normally it shows the logo lg and the phone vibrates at some time after 2 times,Lg phone detects a mobile phone but the phone installs the first time you connect it does not want to load up to the end,
maybe this is the problem that you have Windows 10 ?? Maybe it is going to change a recovery program ?? and not by the emulator

I flashed my d290g with a d295 firmware to install a rom on it. Now I'm trying to flash the original firmware with the flash tool but I can't manage to flash it, I've tried adding the d290 unlocked bootloader but it's still not flashing. Is there anyway to force the flash tool to install the firmware without checking the model of it or to make a flasheable zip for TWRP with the d290g firmware?
LG L Fino Hard Bricked
Hi. Sorry for me english.
I have LG L Fino (D290N) and me phone hard bricked. when I instal TWPR with aboot.img and rashr application me phone reboot and I have purple screen with DBI Apps Watchdog Reset or black screen all time. No have logo LG, only black screen. No have download mode, recovery mode, fastboot mode. Cant reperair with LG Support tool because have error with me baterry not full charging.
What I must doo to unbricked my phone ? Please help me
To everyone that has hard bricked their phone:
There is no fix of hard bricked LG L Fino we are aware of as of now!
The only way out is to give your phone to warranty service and get it replaced or get its motherboard replaced!
Please, note that you should be very careful when typing these two commands, installing aboot and recovery!
You are doing this at your own risk!

LG G4 H811 Complete Unbrick Guide - 100% Working

Hello Everyone,
This is Hamza. I have H811 with v20o. I mistakenly flashed the Modem+Boot+Bootloader+Rom of V20i on my device and hard bricked it. My device was totally dead. No Charging/Notification light, No Download Mode, No Boot & No Recovery.
I spent more than 2 days in finding the solution and finally i found it.
Thread by By leptdre, was very helpful for me. But to make it simple the steps to complete unbricking are as follows:
Tools Required:
1. Card Reader+Data Cable
2. A SD Card - 32 GB or 64 GB. I used 64 GB
3. SD Card Formatter - Download Here - Link Updated
4. Win32DiskImager - Download Here - Link Updated
5. Original KDZ - Download Here
6. SystemImage Bin File - Download Here - Link Updated
7. LGUP Tool - Download Here
Steps to Unbrick:
1. Insert your memory card in Card Reader and Format it using Windows Format. While formatting "uncheck Quick Format" and Change Type to "exFat". You can alternatively use SD Card Formatter but make sure that the card is in exFat format.
2. Once format is completed, install Win32DiskImager and open it. Add SystemImage.bin file. If it does not show the bin file just rename SystemImage.bin to SystemImage.img and then select it. Select your memory card and Click Write.
(You can alternatively change the file types on the win32diskimage from .img to all types)

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
3. One the Write Completes. Eject Card and insert in your LG G4 H811. Press Volume Up Button while connecting the USB Cable.
4. There you go, it will open the download mode. Now Open LGUP Tool as admin. It will show the device as connected. Select the Original KDZ Firmware and Click Start. it will complete and your Mobile will reboot.
5. Now its Done. Enjoy!
Note: I tried it on my H811 and cannot confirm whether it will work on your device or other variant. I am just sharing to help others.
It says you need the decryption key for the bin file download? Also you dont have to change the file ext, just change the file types on the win32diskimage from .img to all types.
I'd love for this to work, but no luck. I'm helping out a friend that was running xTreme. I think TMO forced the update before we could block it again. Now I can't boot to alter the Build.prop to use LGUP.

Yes, I can boot to download mode, but LGUP says unknown model. I'd rather not wipe the device if I don't have to.

Then this guide is not for you. This guide is for those that was hard bricked and wont turn on at all (aka qualcomm 9001). Basically, the main internal memory is corrupted so it wont turn on the phone. What this guide does is that it makes your phone run from the external mmc, so you could go into download mode just long enough to put in a working kdz. In your case, it's just as good as doing a factory reset.

OK, I misinterpreted the steps. I was assuming that it would boot from ext by default with this process and bypass the internal. I guess it's only a fall back after internal boot failure.

Very Sorry for the inconvenience in Links. I am new on Mega and does not know it well. I have updated the links in original post. If any problem, let me know!
I need help please.
I have a H811 T-mobile LG G4. I unlocked the bootloader, flashed TWRP, flashed MM-20e Global rom which is ported rom from H815 20e. Everything worked well untill I deciced to relock the bootloader! I have issued a command fastboot oem lock and the device began to bootloop. "Secure Booting Error, Error Code 1003, MODIFIED".
I Have tried LG Bridge but it says "Can't check internal storage".
I Have tried LGUP with several kdz files including H81120o but it says "Invalid kdz file"
I have tried LG Flash tool and nothing works.
Your help would be highly appreciated.
What does it shows when you connect your mobile with LPUP tool?
Does it shows h81120o?
If yes then you can install h81120o kdz
LGUP is showing: H81520e
and that's why I'm kind of confused. My device is actually H811 but I have rooted and flashed twrp after and flashed MM H81520e Global ported rom (to get rid of tmobile apps). Everything was working perfectly until I fastboot oem relock -ed it.
I tried H81520e kdz also but same error occurs. "Invalid kdz file".
Is there any way I can get into recovery? or is it possible to flash stock recovery from "download mode" ?

You can actually work that out through Download Mode.
Enter Download Mode, Install TWRP through ADB. Once its installed, you will be able to install the flashable stock rom for H811 . I think that would work!
Also have you tried LG Flash Tool?
Note: Make sure to download the right version for H811 (v20i or v20o) and installing the wrong one will hardbrick your device.
I have done everything according to OP. My phone now boots a custom ROM I flashed through TWRP and all is working well as long as I keep SD card in phone. I am stuck from there because I can't flash stock 20i kdz. I get to 9% and it gives error and reboots the phone. Can someone helpbme out? Thanks

I've had no luck with this method. Could it be because I am not using a card reader but instead thru another phone's sd slot?

Yes, there is an option in My Computer that allows me to get in the sd card( F: ) and not the phone storage itself which is ( H: ). I formatted it as instructed using ( F: ). I'm thinking about purchasing a micro sd to sd adaptor and attempt it again.
In Device Manager I get "Relink hs-usb qdloader 9008" Instead of Qualcomm. Maybe that's another issue?
