Soft brick [fixed] - Galaxy Ace S5830 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My SGA is fairly new and i was happy with the stock rom (previously had TMOB pulse + Pulse mini fully modded out)
decided to try new GingerReal2.0 out but got the symptoms:
-Boot loop (normal booting)
-NO Recovery
-If you are panicking lol (i was)
just wanted to post this video was my fastest solution to fixing it using Odin:
never touched odin before 5 mins ago.
youtube.com/watch?v=fe2s29e9s18
EDIT: i could not post links so the above copy & paste to your browser. i was a heavy Modaco user before but support for SGA is much better here
Praise to this guy for posting the resources as well!
Regards,
Amz

the "CODEROM to flash ACE" link is fake , can you provide a real one ?

hi
yes ur right thats exactly what needs to be done it also worked for me
Didn't work for me. Now on Cherry Magnum HD Update 3. Smooth and very responsive. Everything works!
Stay off from CSL Spice 2.3.4 FB0-318D-0-5012-A03
I own a spice Mi-410. The A03 update seems to have greatly improved battery life (just over 3 days with limited calls, occasional fruit ninja, and data always on in 2G mode)
I started suffering from wake up lag issues on the official spice Gingerbread update FB0-318D-0-5012-A03 all of a sudden. An additional problem is that bluetooth support is very limited to receiving files on the stock Spice GB rom.
Since I had a good experience with the stock Cherry Magnum GB ROM A01 version (except for the lower battery life), I tried the more recent version (update 3) which is also an A03 release. I feel this is the best stock GB ROM currently for the Spice Mi-410. Of course removing some unnecessary bloatware also helps. For example I really do not see the need for nero sync. Also restored back the splash image and bootup animation/sounds from the Spice ROM. Having no issues for the last few weeks.

WellcoM A99's Gingerbread ROM is the most stable one (latest also) available, it's based on 3.18E build
ZERO software bug I've found so far... (assuming touch screen axis inversion & weak GPS signal are hardware problems)

IIRC I used SUT to flash that ROM
Sorry for the confusing statements. The A03 update is pretty good, but I had three issues with it.
1. Limited bluetooth support (try sending files from your phone with bluetooth). Have to use a third party app to deal with this problem.
2. GPS is quite poor. Takes a long time to get a lock.
3. Camera color balance does not work well.
4. Missing Android Gingerbread keyboard. In my opinion touchpal keyboard though better than the Froyo keyboard is not as good as the GB keyboard.
The A01 update which I tried caused issues with the wakeup lag but atleast had a working GPS and proper color balance.
For the reasons listed above I prefer the Cherry MagnumHD FB0-318D-0-5019-A03 ROM to the Spice FB0-318D-0-5012-A03 ROM.

Not sure what you mean by weak GPS signal and touch screen axis inversion. I get a GPS lock (outdoors) within 30s most of the time and within 60s all the time, with AGPS.

yeah, with A-GPS it sure is very fast... it is supposed to
I was talking about the vanilla offline GPS, slow & painful as hell 99% of the time
The vanilla offline GPS can take as much as 10-15minutes before it gets a GPS lock and this I mean outdoors. This is especially true if the GPS is offline for sometime as it has to download the ephemeris data again. For more information you can read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GPS_signals.
Since Ideos X6 variants all use the Quacomm Snapdragon 8255 SoC there should be no difference in the performance of the system compared to say the HTC Desire HD or Desire-S. Any issues (and I have not found any GPS issues with the Desire-S which I tested for two weeks and neither found any with the Spice Mi-410) is likely to be firmware related. I did have GPS issues with the Spice Mi-410 GB A03 firmware which was very stable otherwise.
So likely a firmware issue.
You can also try the GPS Test app from the android market https://market.android.com/details?id=com.chartcross.gpstest&hl=en

MI410 Cancer with CHerry A03
Hi,
I have upgraded to Cherry Magnum HD A01, and it was all fine.
Upgraded to A03 (update 3), Battery Life has increased, and Touch felt as good, all was great till last week. Thats when issues started.
Problems:
1) Very slow response on trying to unlock screen
2) Very slow performance
3) Lag in ringtone (As if there are scratches while running a CD)
4) Call answers after 5 seconds
5) ....... Overall runs as if its struggling to survive with Cancer.
I Tried:
1) Cleared Cache (Helped for an hour)
2) Factory Rest (Helped for a day)
3) Reinstalled Firmware Removed Google Account running with new Google Account (Helping so far, aint sure when it start stuggling with Cancer again)
4)Tried to flash with Spice CSL A03 (dint work)
Any help in this regards will help many ambitious impatient users of MI410 like me who rushed to flash by re branding.

[Test] ROM (found on youtube)

I dont know if its real or not but the video says "Cynogenmod Bower Rom"
i found this video somewhere on youtube
anyone willing to test this >??
links given below and instructions to install the ROM is in the description
plz let me know after testing
thanks

I've seen another Bower CyanogenMod ROM before, and I tested that one, but I bricked my phone.
That doesn't mean this one will brick it too, but I think it's the same version and the creator of this video has flashed the CyanogenMod ROM alpha build, which doesn't support WiFi & Bluetooth.
But, the colors are correct, that means he (or she) has flashed that patch, but then the keys (Menu, Home, Back, Power, Volume UP/Down) would not work. He (or she) has turned the screen on with the power button.
Strange.....
CyanogenMod isn't developed yet, and we are waiting for the GPU sources to build it, so please sign the petition: www.GPUsources.tk
P.S.: It can also be a themed stock ROM, what I think it is, OR, just the GT-S5830 instead of the GT-S5830i.
Stop post this
this is stock gingerbread 2.3.6

[ROM] [MIUI 4.1] MiuiRyder - Miui 3.1.11 (JB) v1.1

Lucainno's I9000 MIUI 3.1.11 Port
ROM DETAILS
Android JB 4.1.2
Miui 3.1.11
Semaphore 2.6.5v kernel
4 way reboot
Seeder 1.4 Preinstalled
My GPS fix installed
Install Notes:
From cwm-
Facotry reset
Format /system
Install from sdcard

Profit
NOTES:
Ive only ran this ROM for about a day so Ill list it as "beta" for now. Themes worked for me but I had to create an Xiaomi account.
MIUI 3.1.11 is Android 4.1.2 (NOT 4.2.*) So keep this in mind for kernels and such!
I had somewhat of a higher than normal battery drain the first night. Frankly Im not sure if it was the ROM or one of my apps going nuts. I could use some feedback on how the battery drain is from others. This is my first JB port so be gentle (lol). I used CM10 as a base and used Lucainno's MIUI ROM to adapt (or Miui'fy) it. Dont forget to click on the links below in my thanks section and hit the "thanks" for each. Hit them up for a donation if you can.
Mobile data automatically turns off on each boot. You must renable it each time.
Easiest way for me to get the camera to work was to install the CM10 Gallery app. Thats why you have 2 "gallery" apps listed.
Does 911 work?
Answer - I dont know. Its untested. I have the correct T959 RIL and GPS files installed. I checked the framework.jar and it seemed to be in order.
Does GPS work?
Works for me....kinda I will admit the locks were a lot slower than usual. My GPS "fixes" from another thread do not match 2 of the CM10 files. CM10 and CM10.1 differ by 2 gps in /system/lib/hw from what I can tell. It may work though.
Now Im not a developer, but I will still try to bugfix whatever I can.

Change log
1/15/2013 - V1.1
edit build.prop for english
framwork.jar edits
services.jar edits
new Bootsplash
add a gps.xml normally not found. Flashing one of my "fixes" will delete it.
(You should be able to just flash it without wipe for upgrade)
Thanks man, When I have time this week, I'll be sure to flash and let you know how it goes.
Thanks man - I was going to play with this for a bit. For me the GPS just isn't working as well as Id like it too. Just not sure if its me.
Two of the .so files are different from CM10 to CM10.1 so Ill try to switch between the two. (/system/lib/hw/gps.aries.so & gps.goldfish.so)
Its a nice project to work on for the next few weeks.
Got too eager, and flashed it
Some things:
-Boot animation is TERRIBLE, sorry just had to get that out, I'm prob gonna just end up flashing a Nexus bootanimaion, they look cool
-Default language is DUTCH, and there's a popup right before selecting the default language, so I have NO IDEA what i agreed/disagreed to
So far, so good.
I can't really test GPS, almost got into a car accident once because of the faulty GPS on this, since then... no more taking chances, bought a nice GPS, runs great.
I'll give you more bugs/compliments after tomorrow.
Thanks for this btw, needed my monthly MIUI dosage.
That is odd - the build.prop is set to US and when I loaded it up it was in English. Ill look into it though.
Edit: Found it -
ro.product.locale.language=en (was set to "zh")
LOL - ok - ok Ill look into changing the bootanimation
Version 1.1 posted - should be a no-wipe version for those who already installed it.
NICE....
viber
unfortunately,viber has stopped
no work
Anyone have a multi-dpi playstore for this?
Changed my dpi to 201, playstore stopped showing most apps, flashed this and did not work.
For those who have time and can beta test for me:
MIUI 3.1.25
You need to flash the gapps (4.1 version) because I removed it from the ROM.
Feedback / bugs appreciated
I tried some GPS tweaks in some .jar files - Im not sure if it did anything though.
Downloading, gonna try it this week and I'll be back with my comments, really thankful with your hard work.
Best regards.

This ROM is my new daily driver on my work phone.
Its very fast and stable.
No real issues yet.
It rebooted once by itself when plugged into my computer at work but it hasn't happened again so the incident may be isolated.
Thanks for an awesome ROM.
I'm pretty likely to stick with this one for quite a while.

What one are you referring to? The 3.1.11 version in the OP or the .25 version I posted in the thread to test?
The op version, I just swapped over from another ROM and wasn't aware of the new version. but I'd be happy to give the test version a shot.
I'll run it for a few days and report back.

Sorry I realize its been way more than a few days.
I hot caught up on a work project that has been eating my life.
Anyways here is what I have to Freeport (hopefully its of some use to you this far out)
Pros:
1. Very fast and smooth, compared to what I was on prior (hellybean) this Rom is a huge jump up in speed.
2. Battery actually lasts all day for me. This is my work phone so that's not bad at all.
3. Bluetooth tethering works really well.
4. All around this is the best Rom I've been on in quite some time.
Cons:
1. Random reboots, though it never happens when I'm doing anything, only when the phone is sitting there on the home screen. So it really hasn't actually bothered me even though it would normally be a huge issue.
2. (I think this is actually a miui feature so it may not be worth worrying about) the data automatically turns off when you reboot. This wouldn't be an issue except for the random reboots mentioned above. Sometimes this happens in my pocket and I don't notice my data is off until I look at it again.

[Q] Samsung Galaxy Note - Custom ROM - performance issues

Hey guys,
I am all new to XDA (not really, been using this forum for a long time gone to get information about several Android related questions), but this is my very first post. So, I am a helluva NOOB! Therefor, XDA won't let me post in any development forums at all.
I have figured the following issue:
My Galaxy N7000 is running on AngrY ROM v3 (JB 4.1.2 / PhilZ Kernel that comes with the ROM / XXLSC baseband). I've been using this ROM for quite a time now, and anything was as smooth as you can think of (running in 240dpi mode). The thing is: I'm facing some heavy performance issues the last few days. It's kinda laggy, sometimes it takes a whole lot of time (like 30secs) to open up apps. Reflashed it with full wipe, set up my apps again and then it worked fine for the next few hours, but actually falls back into lagmode after few hours.
My intention was, that it could be related to the app "ROM Toolbox Lite", which I had installed the other day. But since I just installed it and never tweaked anything from in there, this may not be the source of my problems.
Does anyone have same problems? I just googled my ass off for today and having found nothin similar, hope you can help me anyways.
Yours sincerely
quaatschdose

S3 Mini, Your favorite ROM and why?

Hello, this is my First thread on here, I hope It's in the correct section
It's really Simple, I want to know, What ROM you use, or what's your favorite ROM and WHY? ...
For me, I was on DMod V3, I enjoyed it, but I missed my Benz ROM...
Currently on my V4 Benz ROM, and today Actually I noticed V5,
Reasons I stuck with Benz ROM... the Call Recording MOD, I actually Use that A LOT, specially Versus...Family >_> Always changing their word...
(Quick scenario flashback)
"I told you on the phone I was going to change your old bedroom into a strip club!...and sell your old Computer for 5$" ...
"NO YOU DIDN'T!!!!, I GOT EVIDENCE !!!!...."
Benz...FTW!!! :highfive:
Another thing is the force close when You hold back button, I find that useful all day...
also...
I didn't try the Faria ROM, nor the Alpha CM10,
So far I know of:
Faria, Benz, DMod, CM10
So what do you guys think? which is your favorite, and why?. (did I forget any roms?)
ALSO some benchmarks would be awesome , Mine scored 6.7k on DMod v3, best out of 3 runs.
and on Benz v4 it was 6.9k, Best out of 3 runs also.
I prefer CM10 alpha1 .. but hw acceleration not work!
I just put v5 benz on, will test it for a day or 2, and report back, so far it seems faster and smoother than v4,

Nice, Never seen this one before, let me know how it turns out, and Also I'm curious if it has a preinstalled call recording mod? or forceapp close mod, similar to the ones on Benz Rom,
Also I am glad to see people mentioning Roms I didn't see before, I hope this thread can help out S3 Mini Users to find a Rom that's suitable for them.
It's Dmod for me ; ) the online support's fantastic although I'm having problems with Polaris viewer 5 not working still it's early days for V5 and V6 is already on its way! XD

currently on enox revenge. Its relatively smooth without any bugs. haven't tried out any other ROMs though
Dmod v4 from the first day. Good battery life, I didn't notice any bug with apps I use (only NFC when turning off over quick button). Good skin and custom app effects. Lots of blootware removed. Great custom rom.
Antutu benchmark score 7148.

I use S3 Mini 4.1.2 Original Rom. First I rooted it, then i changed it however i want. I deleted some useless apk and media files according to me. I replaced some system files: Launcher and Player etc. And now, I have no problem. I tried a lot of rom: Benz, MacLaw etc, but I had some errors from all. As for me; Original Roms are the best Roms. But i have to say that I am waiting the CM for S3 Mini
http://twitter.com/serdaruzun
Regarding polaris. As soon as I mentioned viewer 5 not working the Dmod V5 team got hold of Office 5 leaked from s4 which is working perfectly see what I mean about amazing online support!

i found there is no CF root for s3 mini, only S3
i found that if you don't have a corresponding CWM you cannot flash with any ROM because CWM recovery not recognize .zip file of ROM...
for my 3rd and 4th question i find the answer... I remove almost all bloatware and stupid apps from my phone because I have special permissions...
for now I stop looking for any ROM's till I found some better guide or manual help of my little brain...:cyclops:

I thik I can help

I´m not sure I can help, but I'm going to tell you what I know, when my phone was half dead I wanted to put a custom recovery, so I could choose between CWM and TWRP, and I saw a guy installing more than 5 ROM´s in his phone with no problem with TWRP. So I decided to use it and I haven´t experienced any isues, except when I tried to install playstore from CM. This is how my phone is now:
Dmod v5: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2165575&highlight=i8190l And TWRP 2.4.3.0 from this toolkit http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2185700
0 issues, already tried CM, Dmod v5, and prerooted stock ROM all working as they SHOULD.:fingers-crossed:

For me it´s definetly Dmod v5, no battery issues, completely stability and it´s super fast
C'est génial

First of all sorry for OT reply.
You can install custom rom .zip over CWM.
Look at this toolkit but read carefuly what it does, don't miss steps and you are doing it on your own.

I have used this toolkit to install cwm, root and then i have instaled dmod v4 from .zip.
Read what toolkit does. Maybe it will help you.
