[Q] Best Android ROM and how to install it - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

Hello guys,
I'm from the Xperia Arc forums and know how to flash Android phones, but one of my friends has a HTC XDA Diamond and WinMobile 6.1 on it and wants Android on it.
After he saw how awesome Android is on my Xperia X10 and now on my Xperia Arc...
So he wants to know which Android ROM is the best one and how to install it?
The ROM should be:
- as fast as possible
- as stable as possible
- most up to date regarding the Android version
- most/all stuff should be working
He wants me to install it and choose the ROM as he thinks I'm good at that stuff (well, I'm good on Android...).
So please tell me which ROM is the one to use and how to put it on his device.
I have no experience with WinMobile so please don't be rude to me.
Thanks
Regards,
Flo

You may want to look into the sub-forum for ROM development.
2 examples of threads related:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1210040
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1301189
Good luck!
P.S. Obviously you need to do the complete unlocking procedure as well (HardSPL etc.) - see for that the stickies on the top of the sub-forum

Thanks.
I, well we, gonna look into it

It often is the latest stable software in the ROMs. And another thing.. It's better if you try some roms out. Its not so popular around here to ask about a god rom. It's a matter of taste and so on. Not so nice to other chefs if i, or any one else recommend a specific rom.
Check the thread about how to flash HSPL and just go nuts flashing and testing. Good luck!
Admin, please close.
Before anyone creates a new thread, the basic requirements for common decency would be to read the wiki, forum rules and use the 'search' function.
Now I understand that you are new, but your question(s) have been asked many times before.
FYI, a dummies guide thread exists for flashing. Also to ask an opinionated query is frowned upon in XDA as it creates endless long threads due to everyone having a different opinion. Best advice would be to read first few posts in each rom thread as this generally lists whats in each rom as well as providing a few screenshots of said rom. Then try a few roms to make your own conclusion on whats best for you

here are almost every answer you want to know
Simply, ROM is a package OS in your phone,
There're 2 kind of ROMs: Official ROM - Original One and Cooked, the Original One is available in SEUS (Sony Ericsson Upgrade Service) and Cooked ROM is what you can download @ ROM Development. Cooked ROM is packaged or cooked by a chef - member of XDA-Devs (not Sony Ericsson).
To change your ROM (say: flashing), you need HardSPL. If not, you phone is locked- bricked, can't be used anymore, so be careful.
If you are beginner and want to know how to HardSPL and Flashing- like reading "At a GLance", please read this thread at the third post.
The First and Second Posts are examples of Cooked ROM.

Rocket ROM Installation for Starters

Hi,
Got a galaxy note with baseband version N7000XXKK5 and kernel version of 2.6.35.7-N7000XXKK5-CL726566. I'm totally new with flashing ROM such as this on android and I'm just wondering if somebody could provide with the instructions and tools to get me started specifically for Rocket ROM?
I am a returning xda user from the good old times of WinMo on htc touch and htc diamond
Thanks!
first of all you need to get Root your device. If you are non rooted then go to first link of my signature. And remember
You need to post it in Q & A section or to Roket ROM Thread itself.
This is development section.
Yups. 1st u need to root your device. The easy method is CF root by Chainfire
Hi,
Rocket Rom installation is not different from any other Custom Rom one.
First thing you have to do is, sorry for this....., STUDING.
Note is a really expensive phone so, before modding it, take some time to understand what you are doing (I followed Note's forum for 1 month before rooting mine), becaouse with modding you can:
• lose your warranty
• brick(=destroy) your NOTE!! (this can 99% happen if you don't know what are you doing...).
Ok now let's start with real advice:
1) Start from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1325369&highlight=efs (ORIGINAL EFS folder is ESSENTIAL for Samsung warranty)
2) Root your Note http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1331784 instruction on the second POST
3) Go to Rocket Rom page and follow instruction http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1380284 (Dev of the Rocket Rom eybee1970 stopped updating this fantastic Rom so , by now, don’t expect further update)
My last advice is READ READ READ and SEARCH in XDA forum, 99% of question you can imagine has just been asked.
XDA is a really great place to understand, but you have to put some effort into 
BTW…welcome to the great community of NOTE’s Owner, probably the best Android Device.
Thank you guys for your replies and suggestions. Really appreciate it. These definitely give me a good starting point
Cheers

Newbie question from newbie

Hello xda-developers!
I am really new on android development (i bought my xperia x8 phone before one month)
So i am having 2.1 android version and i want to update it into a stable + fast + without problems android version can help me how to find/install it?
There are lots of good roms but some need custom kernels and not all phones can get one.
If you are willing to unlock your bootloader you need to see the manufacturing date on the white sticker below the battery. If it is 11w29 or older then you will have a very big chance of bricking the phone if you try to unlock it. You need to use a rom that supports the stock kernel in this case.
If you CAN unlock the bootloader then you also have better roms at your disposal.
Go to the x8 general forum and read the stickies. Search for tutorials and how-tos'..

New to Sony Xperia Z

Hi to every one.
I just bought my new toy : Sony Xperia Z. :good:
Till now, it's a fantastic toy and I love it but I want to get the max from it and to be free from all these apps Sony added.
I'm not really new on XDA since I used to be active on LG Optimus 2x (P990) forum but here I feel like a noob.
So, I need your help to better understand and to learn my new device and of course, learn to use your terms too.
After reading some threads, I was able to ROOT and install CWM (6.0.3.3) on my unlocked device (not locked on any operator).
My first wishes are :
- If someone can re-direct me on the best threads to read for a "noob" like me.
- Which ROMs and Kernels are recommended (knowing I allready upgraded to the official JB 4.2.2)
- What are "the must have apps" to bring my device to the TOP.
- How to underclock / overclock this device (if necessary to change the voltages).
- ....
Many things are not yet clear yet (like ROM / Kernels associations)
I count on you to do my first steps on this thread and to be able, later, to help too.
