U can add or delete ringtones from system/media. Ur ringtone should b in .ogg format & permission set to rw-r-r
Sent from Galaxy Ace GT-S5830 using Spacecaker's SGSII 2.3.5.
Dont jus say thanks, use d 'THANKS' button. [XDA RULE]

Create a folder on your SD card and name it "Notifications"
Put the file of your desired sms tone in that folder
Go to messages and go to settings (by the tapping the icon on the left side of the home button)
Select your sms tone under Notification Settings
And you're done
Hope it helps

You can use GO SMS to change the ringtone.

Go to Root Browser, system/media/notifications. Add the file from your sdcard. MAKE SURE that you reboot your phone. Then, u can go to the notification settings and change your ringtone successfully!

add these dirs to the sdcard under media
SDCARD/ MEDIA/ AUDIO/ RINGTONES
SDCARD/ MEDIA/ AUDIO/ NOTIFICATIONS
SDCARD/ MEDIA/ AUDIO/ALARMS
and put your tones ect into them and they will show up under the settings for them
you dont need rooted phone to do it as its just dirs on the sd card

Move your mp3 file from sd card to system/media/audio/ringtones and then reboot the phone and the mp3 should apear in phone ringtone.
I've had the same problem recently, and I found this thread with a Google search (I use an EVO). I'm about to try the fix mentioned above.
Also, I've had this same problem with my music for some reason. Maybe it's the same issue.
EDIT: Doh! Found out I had to delete ".nomedia"
Thank you, just had to delete nomedia file!

Custom ringtones

Does anyone know how I can geg custom ringtones on my stock galaxy tab
Sent from my SPH-P100 using XDA Premium App
Create a folder on your SD card and call it ringtones. Drop them in there and they are selectable, or use any ringtone app like Zedge (not my favourite but very popular).
Any mp3 or sound file you use can be used a custom ringtone. Simply choose that file and hit the menu button then set as ringtone.
I created a ringtone (custom beep) and when I move it to the media/audio/ringtones folder, it comes up as available for setting
Thanks

You have root, I know! So using file explorer from the market, change the destination folder to read/write (r/w at the top of the page).
All is Well

ok tq...can you help me where can i fine the ringtone folder??
Just create these folder structures on your sd card:
/media/audio/notifications/
/media/audio/ringtones/
and put your sound files there. System will automatically add them to the selection.

[Q] How to set personal desire ringtone and notification at GingerDX v025?

How can I choose (browse) other ringtone than build in ringtone (eg:Quietly Brilliant) and notification sound at GingerDX v025?
Hello, You could make a new folder in your sdcard.
Make a new folder, renamed to media.
inside media folder, create another new folder and rename it to audio
inside audio folder, create alarms, notifications & ringtones folder
So, in simple way you'll have
/Sdcard/media/audio/alamrs
/Sdcard/media/audio/notifications
/Sdcard/media/audio/ringtones
you can put .mp3 or ogg....
(i tried mp3 only)
