Widget size and gallery pics questions - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Widget size and gallery pics questions
1 - Is there any way to make the widget bigger to fill the 5 column screen? I can use Spare Parts app to make the program screen fit the note screen, but what about the widgets?
2- I noticed that after installing CWM, I can not see any pics stored on my USB storage section via gallery, not sure is this from the CWM or not, but I did 2 reboots and saw the media scanning is on and completed but can see any pics stored on USB storage and must be moved to sdcard (not the external, I dont have one) to be seen in gallery

Stock widgets can be resized by long-pressing then releasing. You will see a grid and you can drag the bottom right corner to any cell.
I use ssLauncher and it allows you to resize any widgets, although some stock widgets are not there and some do not behave well. It also allows movement / sizing almost to the pixel if you wish (20 pixels is default).
As for the images not showing up, look in the main memory area for a file named .nomedia (preceding period, no extension). It may be hidden, and it may be in a lower directory. This prevents the media scanner from searching that folder and any child folders.

Yes I know this, but they are not stock widgets, they are installed apps widgets.

I used to use Desktop Visualizer before but to change and re-size the apps icons , but it does not re-size the widgets.

I know this file , people added it to prevent pics from shown in gallery, Even I took a video and it did not shown in gallery!!!
I did not added, but when I looked for it Found it in (application-->SMemo) in 4 different folders, I deleted all of them but still can not see my pics in gallery and each time I reboot the phone 2 of these nomedia files come back in application-->SMemo?

Please Guys I still have the gallery problem, any pics added in usb storage does not show up on gallery

I don't know how to resolve your problem but I find quickpic gallery to be much better than stock and you can specify which folders you want to be visible.

1. All stock widgets are not resizable, few of it can resize in stock.
2. Replied at your other thread

How to get at 'Home' wallpaper

Hi all.
HTC hero has 2 ways of showing homescreen - 'touchflo' and 'home' when using 'home', there are some wallpapers available that are not available when using 'touchflo'
Any ideas where these are?
If you use the 'locale' app and use it to change wallpaper - it lists this other gallery.
Cheers
Press the 'menu' key.
this only shows the touchflo wallpaper though....
I've always wondered about this.
It seems like the wallpaper gallery is seperate from the rest of the galleries you find in the album.
For some reason you can't set the lock screen to have an image from the wallpaper gallery that the home screen uses.
The Lockscreen wallpapers lie under /etc/lockscreen/port. Just copy them to the sdcard, and you should be able to pick those.
But I haven't found the standard Android wallpapers.. Could they be in an archive or something? Or on the sdcard, hidden in a temp folder?
edit: found out it's a pain in the ass-droid to copy those files to the sdcard, so I just uploaded them to the web: http://fluesoppen.com/android/lockscreens/

[Q]Formatting Widgets

For some widgets, Astrid for example, I can't seem to stretch the widget. For example, when I long press and get the option as to how many pixels I want I enter 4x2. When the Astrid box is placed on my screen it's still the same size (2x2) as it would be if I hadn't entered 4x2. The only difference is I can long click around the widget to move it as if it was occupying that space. Is there anyway I can actually make it (and other widgets) to actually occupy the 4x2 space?
Also, I can't seem to move widgets into corner spaces on my screen or exactly where I would like them to be on the screen.
I'm running CM6 stable, Froyo, ADW Launcher, on a rooted N1. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

ADW resizes the spaces used by widgets (as does LauncherPro) but it can not force the widget to resize the graphics within that space. If the widget is designed with resizable elements it will "grow" or "shrink" accordingly. If it has not been designed for this then you will get the experience you have. There's nothing you can do about this.
The (standard) screen has a 4x4 grid, widget and icon placement must conform to this, you can not place widgets or shortcuts in the "gaps".

[Q] Anycut?

Does anyone know how to make anycut work or does anyone with bettercut know if it works?
I can not seem to get it to place any of the shortcuts on the home screen.
Would be great to get it or something similar to work to gain access to portions no accessible in the menus..
-CC
BetterCut does not seem to work, either. Anyone have a workaround? I want to be able to edit my shortcut icons and names.
Desktop Visualizer seems to work pretty well. It allows you to use any icon with any application.
Using Astro with this will allow you to create widgets of any of your files on your homescreen. Most file formats are supported. You can also create a new extension to allow Astro to read epub format as well. It already reads most other file types.
This also works for folders on the homescreen. It's made the "Shortcut" and "Folder" selections on the launchers unnecessary.

How do you get this to work? I am using Launcher Pro. When I long press it goes blank for a sec and then nothing. If I try to launch DV and create from there I get a DVR message saying I don't have permission to create icons on my homescreen.

[Q] Size of pic required for adding apps to Golauncher

Hi, Ive only just stumbled upon Golauncher and editing my Desire HD.
Ive tried to create my own pics to add as a icon on my phone... I have looked at the different threads and dont know where to post this so here goes....
I am using Golauncher and desktop visualiser but when i add a pic to launch the icon i cant get the pics to fit the size of the space... i have tried editing them, making them larger, wider etc but cant get it right; i also tried resizing them with go launcher itself but the border doesnt fit tight to the pic. I have icons on my home screen but there are large gaps between them.
I need pixel sizes for all the different variations e.g 1x1, 2x1 etc
Any advice on what im doing wrong??
Thanks
I can't help with go launcher, sorry know not very helpful to original question, but I find desktop visualizer is ideal for this job. You can add an shortcut icon of any grid pattern size will add a box initially, just take a screen shot and edit on computer to match sizes exactly for your chosen grid pattern. It also resizes icons well to fit in anywhere, Im using it on launcher pro for a 7x7 grid cause standard icons always get cropped due to small space.

[Launcher 7] Folder Shortcuts.

Have decided to do a small tutorial on adding folder shortcuts to the excellent Launcher 7 home screen replacement by Timo Kujala.
I have used Desktop VisualizeR to create the shortcut icons and Apps Organizer for the pop-ups but any suitable shortcut app will do.
First of all download and install your shortcut app then set up your folder shortcuts.
Next create the folder widget in Desktop VisualizeR on the home screen: menu > Add widget > Desktop VisualizeR > 1x1 Small (for square icons) then choose the tile properties and Create tile.
Finally click on the resulting widget, choose your icon and using Select Action > Other > 'shortcut app' select shortcut. Define other properties and OK.
Done.
Edit
Been having a look at it and it seems that between them Launcher 7 and Desktop VisualizeR don't really handle the use of 2x1 icons for widgets that well.
The trick is to do it as previously explained but when you get to choosing the widget layout in DV.. choose 4x4. In L7 then choose 2x1 tile size, whatever background but for the next option make sure you leave Full-tile widget unticked and then Create tile.
You then have to resize your 2x1 icon, size don't seem to be too important but for whatever your 2x1 size is you need to square it off. For example if you're using a 230x120 image you need to resize it to 230x230 (i would save it to .png format just to be on the safe side). If it doesn't come out right then just play around with the original icon size
For resizing on Windows platform i use BIMP Lite which works really well for me.
The other steps would be the same as before and this method is obviously only for an horizontal tile.
Launcher Shortcuts
To link to other launchers from Launcher 7 try this:
Install Desktop VisualizeR -> Go to L7 and Add Widget. Choose DV and add widget for icon as per the above.
Go to L7 desktop and click on the resulting widget, click on Select Icon and choose icon image.
To link to alternative launcher click on Select Action -> Other -> Activities and that will give you a list of all the apps on your phone.
Scroll to your chosen launcher and click on it, this will show you a drop-down list of all the activities for that app. the link you need is usually the first one and in the case of Launcher Pro is 'com.fede.launcher.Launcher' select that.
This will take you back to DV where you can choose whether you want an icon label or not and so on... ok this and you will go back to L7 home screen. If the widget image is not displayed then you just need to refresh the home screen.
Hope this helps.
Update:
Live folders now added to Donate version of app from market. Please support the dev and further development.
HTC Legend Rooted & S-Off, CyanogenMod V7.0 (Gingerbread), 150 LCD Density.

Are you using Desktop VisualizeR to create the widget's icon (1x1 Small)? What is the icon source you're using? and are you enabling the tick for 'Full-tile widget'. You also need to be creating a widget rather than long pressing the icon in the app drawer.
If you're doing all that and still not working then let me know exactly what you're doing and what apps you're using and i'll try to help further.
Thanks and hope that helps.

I'll add these extra steps (done on a HTC Desire HD) to the original post but good luck and hope it works for you.

The only thing i can think of is you just need to refresh the home screen.. that issue should be fixed in the new update of Launcher 7 (1.0.0.81). If it's not that that then i'm stumped cos you can't create the widget without defining the image and action.
Let me know if there's any change.
i'll wait for the update before i jump in...
Hi to all,
anyone knows how to edit existing folder with apps? I have created one folder with apps, and now i can only add this one folder to the tile (main screen). I cant seem to edit which apps are inside the folder neither i can delete this folder. When i choose "Add special tile-> Folder tile" i can just choose this one folder i have created. Help!
What you need is Menu -> Launcher7 settings and swipe across to the Folders tab. From there you can add a new folder or edit an existing folder by clicking on it. Hope that's what you're looking for
