Any cheap/generic docks? - Motorola Droid Bionic

I recieved my Bionic on Tuesday and so far so good, quite an upgrade from the Original Droid. I haven't noticed any of the issues you guys talk about (loosing data connection, doesn't wake up, poor battery life).
I'm a somewhat heavy user, I work in IT and I'm on my phone constantly.Yesterday I had 10% battery life left after 27 hours of use on the standard battery. I am rooted, but still on 893.
Anyway, I'm here to ask if anyone has a generic stand that they're using for the Bionic? It doesn't need to have charging, hdmi, or other capabilities. I just want to be able to set my phone in it while I'm at my desk so I don't keep dropping stuff on it. I know a lot of the tablet guys use a picture frame stand or a plate stand and that works good. Anyone recommend something like that for this phone?

I'm a big fan of these smartphone coasters. At $4.95 a pop you can't beat the price. They fit the Bionic perfectly and you can still plug in a charger if needed. I have one on my desk at work and one at home.

Thanks, exactly what I was looking for. I ordered one up.

"Powerskin" for HD7

Today my local T-mobile store has in stock a Powerskin for the HD7. It is a silicone skin with A 1500 mAh battery built in. This brings your total mAh to about 2750 mAh. Until now the only add-on battery unit this company made was for the I-phone. I like it! It adds plenty of juice to your HD7 without making the phone into a doorstop. You can put it on and just leave it on all-the-time, or just stick it on when your battery gets low then remove it when your battery is recharged.
I tried one of these and returned it. The phone feels loose in the skin and the connector feels very delicate. It also turns the phone into a brick.
I really do appreciate that this thing is available but I'd think I'd rather just carry around a second standard battery.

Nope it stops at 30% lol. If there isn't anything you need, you can throw in 2 of the $4 neck straps and you will get 30% off of $58 making the skin $40.
I bought the Powerskin during the promo; got 20% off the $49.99 price. Overall, the quality is good, it adds a level of protection to the phone and gives it a little more to hold on to; yes, it add to the heft of the phone, but that's not a prob for me. I took it one step further and took a belt clip piece and using Permatex Black, stuck it on the back of the Powerskin so that I can now carry the phone in the Powerskin on my belt. Works fine, and the extra battery keeps me going all day without worry.
A highly recommended accessory IMHO
got one myself
just got myself one too
it adds a little bulk, but not enough to make me feel that it bothers me, sure maybe the fact that the phone naked feels all like i could break the glass... but i had a hard case on it anyway and was good, but this is pretty much the same thing but with a battery that charges your phone so i like it, and it doesn't slip that easily allthough i don't know about putting it in my pocket now.. maybe it might be harder since it doesn't slide that easy. but right now just charging the battery
will see how it works out and see if the battery now last me a good long day with really heavy usage
it did before but i was worried and would last most of the day but i never wanted to run out either.
whats the brand of the silicone?do they have international post.
i bought this thing.
its just a charger....like the other "powerbanks"
it does not work like th emilli or morphoie juice pack
So it about doubles your battery life? Seems like a good investment for the long run.

it doe snot actually double yr battery life
on standby it runs 8 hours on the powerskin and then switches to internal battery
on heavy suage , it runs 2 hours max with heavy 3G web browsing
A HOLSTER For the HD7 w/ PowerSkin On DOES Exist!!
Just arrived in today's mail from an eBay purchase.
Just search for anywhere and pick up a holster (I prefer horizontal) for the Garmin GPSMAP 78sc. Not a super-perfect fit, but does the job very well!!

I bought one... 3 months old and it is dead... charges with the first LED on the powerskin flashing, then suddenly goes to all 4 on like it's fully charged (even after sitting all night). Plug it into the phone and nothing... Took it back to t-mobile and they said to contact the manufacturer even though they sold it...
Just bought one, very satisfied.
One unexpected benefit, would be true of all "second battery" arrangements like this is that the phone performs better (network, browsing, video, etc.) when juice is coming from the external battery (returns to normal performance when external battery is drained). This is because the phone thinks that it's plugged in while using the external battery and therefore disables the more aggressive power saving options for network, Wifi, etc.
Also likely why doubling the battery capacity in this fashion(using a second external battery) doesn't actually double the battery life, instead giving you somewhat less than double life.
What if u turn off the powerskin till the phone battery drains then turn on the powerskin. How is the battery life

They arent exactly grt.. instead many arent!! Could any user give a final verdict on their usage, and if the reviews on Amazon should really be taken into account?

Wireless Charging with the EXTENDED Battery - Solved

If you're impatient like me, here's a DIY $13 mod I did to make the extended battery wireless charging enabled. Presumably works on all charging mats as the whole idea behind Qi is a universal standard.
http://uselesspuzzles.blogspot.com/2011/09/droid-bionic-optimizations-extended-bat.html
Photos and videos at the bottom of the post.
Here's the main video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nR7egtQl-Zg
I moved the coil a little bit so the connection was more secure after the video. Works without issue.
I bought like 5 touchstones so I can have one in my home office, office office, bedroom, living room, etc.
Do you know if the touchstone works with the VZW inductive charging back for the standard battery?

honestly i havent really read into the different technologies used... so no idea
my guess is if it did work it would probably not be as good an experience as the magnets are probably not placed in the same alignment (so the phone won't know exactly where to attach giving a sub-optimal placement)
Wow
Looks pretty nice, I happened to have the soldering supplies and wire might do this myself. How is the charging time as I can't find the output for the touchstones anywhere. Would you still recommend it after having it for a while now?
nah don't do it
it has to be perfectly aligned to charge properly- from what i've read the real bionic backplate works even through cases-
i'd say wait for a better version that is less finicky
or make one with the bionic reg. battery wireless charging door like i plan to

I'd like that. I tried my bionic with the inductive charging door on the touchstone, and I couldn't get it to work, so this mod would be great. I hate the LG charging mat for the bionic
Do you know if this was a tight squeeze in the extended battery door? Also, does this mean you cannot take the door off anymore?
Hey guys, i know older post...has anyone done this with the reg battery?
If so, what kind of chargign times are u getting? ALso, are u usign the Palm mat or some other mat.
My intention is to use this with teh standard battery, and battery cover, so i can still use gel case
i'm still waiting for the long promised true wireless charging where the same towers that supply us our signal also charge our phones.
it's barbaric that we're still having to plug in somewhere to charge. what century is this anyway !!?!?

I did this using the stock charging cover for the bionic.
It works perfect but you need a Qi compatible pad. After searching I found one on ebay for 35 bucks. The only problem is it makes removing the battery difficult. My next project is to see if I can make the mod so it works just like the production cover.

[Q] Droid 4 Battery hack

I wondering if it will be possible to do a hack on the Droid 4 to upgrade the battery some how? Battery life right now isn't that bad, but could diffidently use a extended battery. I would think it would be possible, if anybody was interested in building a battery for the droid 4.

Does the Droid 4 have an in-built battery like the Droid RAZR? If so, the only option would be something like a Mophie JuicePak, a case with a built-in battery to extend the regular cell.
A more likely scenario, if Development is able to get that far, is a custom Kernel with a more efficient set of commands and code to enable us to squeeze a little more life out of the battery. That's assuming Development gets off the ground

Yes it is build in . Just thinking maybe a backpack sort of add on cover, to extend the battery, of course without having to connect over the USB port.
I don't see what's stopping an aftermarket manufacturer from producing a thicker battery and an aftermarket backplate to the phone. All you need to do is open the backplate, peel the sticker off, and use a T-5 torx screwdriver to remove the battery connector. The phone comes with the back-plate removal tool. It's not complicated.
see: ifixit.com/Teardown/Motorola-Droid-4-Teardown/7759/1
So, yes, it's technically possible. Unfortunitely, the RAZR MAXX battery will not fit in the D4 cavity, and the connector locations are different. So, you can't make your own home-grown Motorola Droid 4 MAXX. ifixit.com/Teardown/Motorola-Droid-RAZR-Teardown/7048/1
(lost my old XDA account login, excuse my inability to post clickable links)
I remember reading about a gent who already removed his D4 battery to see what other options could be found. The dis-assembly went easy enough, but there were major issues when he put it back in. Don't know if those were user created problems or what, but proceed at your own risk, as always!
It appears that there is connections for a wireless charger back cover. Therefore these connectors could be used to connect a second battery. Hopefully an aftermarket company will take notice and invent a product that will work for this.
The battery in mine seems to last pretty long. Is this modification for the sake of modification? I turned off push mail, and suddenly I have ah all day battery life.
Sent from my DROID4 using XDA App
back from the dead - anyone seen any news on this? i particularly like the idea of using the charging contacts for the wireless charging cover, but using a battery backpack instead.
my d4 is on its way to me now, after my d2 had its flight license revoked following a high speed collision with a wall. the wall didn't fare too well either, but at least the wall is still functional. gotta learn to control that temper!
anyway, i have an aftermarket extended battery for my d2, rated at 3500mAh. i can go 2 days between charges, with what i consider regular use - that's probably 30 mins of calls, 200+ texts, loads of emails, some words/scramble w/ friends, 30-60 mins streaming internet radio, and some surfing every day. granted my d2 is rooted and running liberty, which practically doubled battery life. maybe rooting my d4 and debloating it (skype and other crap i don't want) will have the same effect to where i don't need an extended battery.
VZW sells an inductive charging back cover for the D4 already. That and a portable inductive batt. pack in a phone case and I think you'd be in business.
One of my favorite personal quotes: If it was put together my someone or something, then it can definitely be taken apart. The extra contacts seen on the battery are definitely made for magnetic induction (wireless charging etc) and can even be used (like other phones I've seen) as a way for the phone to know when it is "docked" to an accessory... EX: the lapdock/webtop situation. There is a known patch to throw our phones into webtop mode, tricking it into believing thaat it is actually docked to a physical lapdock. This sensing is done usually by magnetism/inductive signals, and triggers a response from the phone. I really don't think moto would electronically brick our phones if the batt was taken out, but who knows... yet? Hope I've given some insight!
I am ok with the battery life. I got 24 hours out of it with the 208 leak just a couple of days ago. I was on wifi though for about 18 of those hours.
In the ICS leaks all you have to do is plug in a hdmi between the phone and a TV. A menu pops up with webtop as an option.
My Experience with the D4 and battery life
I Started a new thread on the topic, I hadn't found this one yet. I've removed the battery from 2 droid 4's, and had one running off a pair of 18650's for a week. Phone will work, just gotta charge them via another method
well i've had my d4 for a while now, and i'm mildly disappointed in the battery life. it's better than i thought it would be, but still not enough to go all day. in my interior office on the 36th floor, where there's little/no cell signal, the d4 chews up the battery a lot faster than my d2 ever did. i tried using smart actions, but they're flaky at best, and actually make the phone become unstable and very crash-happy, so i deleted all the smart actions i'd created and now the phone is much less crashy, though it's not really what i'd call stable. about to un-root and reset it to see if that helps (doubt it), then exchange it at VZW.
right now i'm not-so-patiently waiting for the official ICS OTA update. hopefully ics will bring some better optimizations, and then some good roms based off the official release will be cooked up. i've always wanted to try cyanogen, but at this point i think i'd be happy with plain vanilla AOSP, without blur and bloat as long as it meant my battery would last all day with normal use.
at this point in the smartphone game, it reminds me of the PC world circa 1993. vendors forcing bloat that's difficult/impossible to remove, which hinders performance of the phone. something has to give at some point. hopefully they will make it so you can have a phone, download android from google, get drivers from motorola/htc/etc, and just roll your own. i mean really - who actually uses all the crap they preload on these things now? and especially now that data is not unlimited anymore (i'm grandfathered in thankfully), apps you don't want and can't get rid of are using data without permission - potentially driving up your bill! if that's not illegal, it should be!

i'm not particularly opposed to carrying around some sort of Frankenphone, so this appeals to me. looks like mark doesn't post around here anymore so does anyone else know how you'd go about getting the 18650s powering a D4? if this works i'll probably cut a hole in the back panel to fit the batteries, might even be able to squeeze in a microSD-to-SD adapter for dat 128GB glory

[Q] Question about GPS and battery life

So I am thinking about getting this phone, and I have a couple of reservations. No root is an issue obviously, but not necessarily a deal breaker, and will hopefully be remedied sometime.
The other thing I am worried about is the battery. I currently have an Xperia x10. I purchased an extended battery for it and can get over 3 days on one charge with normal use. With the regular battery, I get about a day and a half. The nonremovable battery on the atrix HD is a bit of a problem, and I don't really feel like performing surgery on my phone(although I might, if it comes to that).
I use an app called imapmyhike to keep track of where we went when we go hiking in the woods or around town. These hikes can go from a few hours to all day sometimes. The extended battery comes in handy for the long ones since with GPS and data on and active, the charge goes down really fast.
Does anyone use this app and if so can you tell me how long the phone lasts when you are using it? Also how long does the phone last as a GPS device in the car without a dock? Would probably be about the same thing. Any input would be appreciated.

Buy an external battery. I have one, but also be careful on the charge speed on it. I had a charger for my car that was charging at 500mAh and it was not enough to even keep a charge on my phone. It died after 7 straight hours of GPS + Pandora. I bought another car charger that was charging at 1Ah and it was enough to even charge it.
Point is, look for a battery that is fast charging, and if you keep it in your bag, you could even get a really large one. I bought a small one for 5500mAh that is about the size of 2 fingers put together.

It would be nice. I have an N7 but haven't bought a charging pad yet because I didn't feel I'd get enough use from it. My N7 battery easily lasts me a full day and I just throw it on the charger at night. No big deal.
I use a Moto X right now and tether my N7 to it on my daily bus commute (~2 hours each day) and I usually need to give the battery some juice before I leave work to have enough for tether on the ride home and the remainder of the evening.
When I get the Turbo, it will easily last a full day. I don't think I'd ever really need the full two days of battery life, but it would be great for long days. My Moto X right now can't make it through an entire day with my usage. I know I'm probably above the bar in SoT (usually 3.5-4h), but I average about 13h, according to GSAM over the last 8 months. Could use a nice big battery to keep me going for 18-20 hours.
I guess it does have wireless charging...
The new DROID comes with a turbo charging feature so when you’re low on battery, a 15 minute charge can get you up to 8 hours of use. DROID Turbo comes with the Motorola turbo power charger in the box at no additional cost. And for added convenience, the new DROID is wireless charging capable.

Awesome..thanks for that
Semi-related.. Can anyone suggest a nice charging pad? I've looked at them for my N7 before and the prices seem to range pretty widely. I understand they charge pretty slowly.. but are they all the same for speed? Does the device need to be perfectly aligned in order to charge? Can I charge two devices at once (N7 and Turbo)?
I'm thinking I'll throw a pad on my desk and one at home, either in the living room (coffee table/end table) or bedside table.
There are some features of a phone that you appreciate more when you have them than you do when you read about them. An example might be high speed charging, their are a few technologies out there for this but the bottom line is when you have it you really come to like it. Its very nice when you have forgotten to charge your phone and you suddenly decide to go out to be able to get a charge on it that will see you through in the time it takes for a quick shower. When it was new and I first read about this it sounded good but no big deal, I usually make it through the day fine and charge over night. Now that I've had it though I really like it.
This is kind of a long way to get around to it but wireless charging is the same way. Its very nice to simply have the pad on the night stand or wherever you may put it and drop your phone on it without having to plug it in. It seems like nothing much but once you get used to it having to plug in seems like a bit of a hoop jump. One benefit of wireless charging that often gets missed is port damage, I have had more than one phone in the household that met its demise by tweaking the micro usb slot so that it either wouldn't charge or couldn't transfer data or both. My understanding is we will still have to plug in to get high speed charging but the ability to do both if we want is a very good thing in my mind.

Good points. I held off on a pad for my N7 because the battery easily lasts me through the day, two if needed (I usually charge it every night, though). Even though the Turbo probably wouldn't need to be topped off during the day like my Moto X would benefit from, it would be nice to have the option. I agree on the Turbo charger too. Great in a pinch if you are at an airport or something and just need some quick juice for a flight or something.
3.9Ah batt's gonna take a long time to charge with a 700mA limit though.
Should be OK overnight. Then again if it's only discharged to 60% when you start it shouldn't be hateful.
Yeah, wireless charging works best where/when you are going to set it down for a while such as over night or when you place the charger where you set your phone in the evening. I used both, one on the nightstand and one on the end table by my chair. In the latter case it is quite convenient since you can answer a text or what have you and simply set it right back down and its charging again. This is why I think its a great feature to have both wireless and high speed by whatever name, they should complement each other well. I say should because I've had both but not on the same phone, I'm really fairly stoked about this handset for this and other reasons.
