[Q] access native Linux from webOS or Android using chroot - TouchPad Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've webOS, Arch Linux(native), and Android...
As I said in the title, I would like to know if it's possible to access/use native Arch Linux using chroot in webOS or Android.
With this I could use the same cli apps in the 3 OS...
Thanks

[Chroot] Chroot scripts for lg optimus. Run ubuntu ,debian or meego from Android

These are the scripts I have running on my phone to chroot to any image. Simply extract to / sdcard/bt5, copy the image you want to run and rename bt5.img
Then from the terminal run:
su
cd sdcard/bt5
sh bootbt

I encourage anyone who wants to upload your own images optimized for the display of the Optimus.
Need rooted phone and busybox installed, running in original firmware with quarsar v3 kernel, no problems.
we can run meego thru this? this is for developing purpose, or does it allow us users to boot OB into another operating system?
what can we do thru using this?dual boot?
of the moment only chroot, of course dual boot is possible
i'm sorry if this sounds noob, but wat does chroot do? I have only heard of multiboot. If i download that file of urs, what can i actually gain from it? thx in advance

Chroot 'jails' another linux distro inside your android using the same kernel.
For example I use chroot with my Multimedia HD (Blusens T50, a Emtec Q800's brother) in order to have a debian distro plenty of space (the chroot is a external space to mount into the system) also updatable. Then, I can install in my case an ftp server, a torrent client, etc...
Regards.
From where can we download the images?
In xda exists multiple posts with images for chroot if not in google appear links with how to make your rootfs system in ext2

any instruction to chroot the Megoo on ob ?
u should watch this http://wiki.meego.com/ARM/MSMQSD
of the moment exist on internet one image that load it in terminal mode (no gui) with bash shell, it is similar to ubuntu terminal. Maemo gui is possible install in ubuntu, it is hildon desktop. Since my experience the most usable desktop is lxde running vertical mode 760x1024 with real vnc using virtual keyboard of android and emulated mouse. Backtrack 5 is usable but the image has errors and gnome run slow. other alternative is matchbox desktop for small screens in embeded devices.
To run meego or maemo is necesary config gui and install vncserver.
For other part, meego uses moblin desktop, it is posible install in ubuntu too.
Here i share one rootfs with lxde and backtrack repositories, it is in spanish language; http://www.htcmania.com/showthread.php?t=260402

chroot clarification

My understanding is that you don't so much "instal ubuntu" as provide the libraries and support programs required to run linux prgrams on the linux system that boots under androids dalvik environment and that its slow because you have to us VNC for your console. That brings us to the idea of simply using an android x server. I am curious why such an animal does not exist.

ubuntu chroot vs native

I have chroot installed, debating if I should delete it and install native.
my experience with chroot: chroot does not support mouse, only 11.10, but it is in card mode which is convenient, and BT, video, audio works .
what is pro or con with native ubunto 12.10 or 13.04.
i say native will always be better then chroot

Linux on Android and Linux Deploy Problems

So before I installed CyanogenMod I had linux running through terminal and vnc viewer on the stock Barnes and noble ROM. But once I upgraded to any CyanogenMod ROM it stopped working and does not let me run commands as [email protected] Currently I am on CM11 nightly.

So if I have this right, you are SSHing into a linux pc via terminal and VNCing into a linux pc via an app. All fine and good. That shouldn't have any bearing on the linux pc itself if your logging into the linux pc exactly the same as before.
More likely I think your logging in differently in some way, upgraded the linux distro (which changed something), changed something on the linux pc yourself or haven't changed something that needs to change, forgot to switch to root user, or some other thing on the linux pc.
ssh, vnc, rdp, or whatever are basically just a way of bringing the computer to you. What happens there is happening on the computer not the android device.

I am actually trying to run a arm linux system from terminal and VNC into it on the same device (Nook HD). I used 2 apps one is called Linux on Android and the other is called Linux Deploy. This worked on all of the stock roms but non of the CyanogenMod ROMS. Not sure if this is a conflict with the CyanogenMod build or whats up with it.

What linux could I install on my Mi8?

What linux version could I install on my Mi8?
What method would be advisable?
In the past some people has installed Linux on their smartphones, but only some devices are compatible.
I would like to try Linux on my Mi8, it's powerful enough and that would let me use many advanced programs for science not available for Android.
Just use Linux Deploy(u need root rights). You can choose you district and install it. To access you would setup ssh in the settings. Then download a ssh client and connected to local host. All done

But I don't want to run linux virtualized on top of Android, I want to replace it completly.
There is also Ubuntu Touch.
Which one works better?
Well as Linux shares the kernel with android you have no performance lost when using Linux Deploy. Replacing the OS will not be possible.
(You can also try the integrated Framebuffer display...then you would have a linux desktop. Hook up a keyboard and a mouse and youre good to go)

In fact it doesn't replace the whole kernel, just a small part of it. And most things on Android are run on a Java Virtual Machine.

Do you have an example? Like a device where it is running like you described?
