1. Search before posting.
Use one of our search functions before posting, whether you have a question or something new to share, it's very likely someone already asked that question or shared that news.
2. Member conduct.
2.1 Language: XDA is a worldwide community. As a result what is ‘ok’ to say in your part of the world may not be ok in someone else’s part of the world. Please think about who is reading what you write. Keep in mind that what you think of as acceptable use of language may not be acceptable to others. Conversely, while reading member posts, remember that word you find offensive may not be to the writer. Tolerance is a two way street.
2.2 Nudity: XDA is used by people of all ages, including minors. It's not acceptable to post nude/pornographic imagery, which includes exposure of the male or female genitalia or of female breasts.
2.3 Flaming: XDA was founded as a group of people sharing information about certain mobile phones. Sharing does not involve virtual yelling (flaming) it does involve working together to solve problems in an environment of mutual respect and understanding. Losing your temper and flaming another member, or group of members, is not acceptable behavior.
2.4 Personal attacks, racial, political and/or religious discussions: XDA is a discussion forum about certain mobile phones. Mobile phones are not racial, political, religious or personally offensive, therefore none of these types of discussions are permitted on XDA.
2.5 New Members: Treat new members the way you would have liked to have been treated when you were a new member. Provide the new members with guidance, advice and instruction always with respect and courtesy.
2.6 All members are expected to read and adhere to the XDA rules.
3. Post only using a clear subject and message.
You're most likely to receive a helpful answer to your question if you use a short subject title that describes your problem and a message that explains in detail what your problem is and what you've tried to solve it.
4. Use the English language.
We understand that with all the different nationalities not everyone speaks English well, but please try. If you're really unable to post in English use an online translator, You're free to include your original message in your own language below the English translation.
5. Post a message only once.
As a large forum we don't need unnecessary clutter, You're free to edit your message as you like, so if you do not receive an answer revisit your message and see if you can describe your problem better. Not everyone is online at the same time, it might take a while before you receive an answer.
6. Do not post warez.
If a piece of software requires you to pay to use it, either pay or find your cracks and serials somewhere else. We do not accept warez nor do we permit any member to promote or describe ways in which Warez, cracks, serial codes or other means of avoiding payment, can be obtained.
7. Do not spam.
If you wish to advertise a product, contact us we provide ads. But do not post it in the forums, it will be removed and you're likely to receive a ban.
You are however allowed to sell used goods like your own device, parts of your device or accessories for your device in the marketplace forum, please read the rules there before posting. (This rule includes signatures, if you use a signature it will appear in your post)
8. Donations.
We appreciate all donations to xda-developers.com, it keeps our forum online and well maintained. As a user you're allowed to ask for donations in your signature as a thank you for your hard work. However donations up front are not allowed, this forum is about sharing, not about getting paid to do something, that's what your job is for.
9. Don't get us in trouble.
Don't post copyrighted materials or do other things that will obviously lead to legal trouble. If you wouldn't do it on your own homepage, you probably don't want to do it here either. This does not mean we agree with everything the software piracy lobby try to impose on us, it simply means you cannot break any laws here, since we'll end up dealing with legal hassle caused by you. Please use common sense: respect the forum, its users, and those that write great code.
10. Help others if you can.
If you see posts from others where you can help out, please do. This place exists because people are helping each other, and even if you are relatively new to the matter, there's probably already quite a few people newer than you that would benefit from what you've learned. Don't be shy.
11. Don’t post with the intent on selling something.
As an elaboration to rule number 7, don’t use XDA to advertise your product or service. If you are the proprietor of a for-pay product or service, you may use XDA to get feedback, provide beta access, or offer support on the product, but you may not make any posts with the primary intent of selling. This includes posting press releases, announcements, or links to downloads for trial software. The only exception to this is when you’re posting an exclusive release to XDA.
12. Using the work of others.
If you are developing something that is based on the work of another Member, you MUST first seek their permission, and you must give credit to the member whose work you used. If a dispute occurs about who developed / created a piece of work, first try to settle the matter by private message and NOT in open forum. If this fails then you may contact a moderator with clear evidence that the work was created by you.
Convincing evidence will result in copied work being removed. If there is no clear evidence you created the work then in the spirit of sharing all work will remain posted on the forums.
These rules apply to all software posted on XDA unless that software comes with a license that waives these rules.

A) the site belongs to a member of XDA-Developers with at least 1500 posts and 2 years membership who actively maintains XDA-Developers' support thread(s) / posts, related to the download,
B) the site is a relatively small personal website without commercial advertising/links (i.e. not a competitor forum-based site with purposes and aims similar to those of XDA-Developers.com.)
12. Using the work of others.

Whilst a minor amount of off-topic posting may be overlooked, the general rule is your posts / threads must be relevant to the Forum / thread in which you are posting.

The XDA-Developers.com Marketplace, also known as MP, is provided free to members with at least 50 posts and one year of XDA membership.. XDA-Developers.com, its moderators, administrators, owners, legal advisors and all other related parties do not warrant, guarantee or endorse any item offered for sale or trade on this forum.
SIMPLE ENGLISH: Trade at your own Risk. XDA-Developers is not and will not get involved in transactions whatsoever.

The MP is for use by private parties only, do not post commercial links (SPAM) or links to private sales taking place on other sites ie: eBay, Craigsist, etc. The MP is intended for the sale of your personal phones and/or accessories. It is not intended as a sales platform for operating a business.

All transactions must take place in the public forum; use of the Private Message (PM) system to buy/sell/trade is against MP rules. Use of the PM system to convey private information, shipping address and payment details is acceptable.
SIMPLE ENGLISH: If you trade by PM how do you know the person you are buying from isn't selling the same item to 10 people? Keep all deals in the open.

a. XDA-Developers allows the following items to be offered for Sale/Trade:
Mobile Phones including Tablet devices and directly related Accessories ONLY.
b. we do not allow items to be offered for Sale/Trade that are stolen, thought to be stolen, or of questionable history. For the avoidance of doubt, phones with a "bad ESN" or which are network barred are NOT permitted to be on the marketplace.
SIMPLE ENGLISH: Don't sell anything but phones / accessories and ensure they are not stolen.

Do not send money by any means that you cannot track or recover. Sending money via Western Union is a known scamming method and although it may be necessary due to country restrictions it is not recommended.
a. XDA-Developers recommends the use of PayPal® or another secure method of transferring money.
b. XDA-Developers is not responsible for transactions gone "bad". It is YOUR responsibility to know with whom you are dealing, and YOU assume all responsibility for the transaction.
In addition, the use of PayPal gift payments is not permitted on deals conducted on XDA. Specifically relevant to sellers, but applicable to everyone in general, you must not request any additional payment to cover PayPal fees. Doing either of the above is in breach of the PayPal terms and conditions.
SIMPLE ENGLISH: Use PayPal® whenever possible. You are responsible for your own actions.
Do not use PayPal gift payments, as these offer no protection. Do not ask the buyer to cover PayPal fees.

By posting on the MP you agree that you have read, understand and will abide by these rules.

a. You may sell 5 devices per month maximum (each device must be in a new thread).
b. All current registered members will be able to use the marketplace regardless of tenure on the site or number of posts. New members will NOT be able to use the marketplace until they accrue 50 posts and one year of XDA membership.
c. If you are selling or offering to trade, you must take a photo of the phone with XDA as a backdrop on your screen with your username clearly showing
d. If you are selling, you may only sell an absolutely maximum of five devices per month, and each listing must be contained with its own thread.

Some informal advice on trading for avoiding scams
1.
Ensure member has made useful contributions to the site. Useful contributions tend to show a genuine person who uses XDA legitimately and values their account here and looks after it. If someone has only ever really posted in the MP, they have little track record on the site.
Tl;dr- Do background checks. Consider their reason for being a member of XDA. Are they a good all-round member?

If you are given an external feedback system link to vouch for a member, ensure that it is the same person. Contact them using the external system and ask them to confirm they are arranging a deal with yourself on XDA. If not, steer well clear.
Tl;dr- I can give you the president's feedback link on heatwave or eBay. But it doesn't make it mine. Anyone can give a link - check it out.

Ensure sufficient feedback. If someone bought a phone case and battery on XDA, or indeed another feedback giving system, consider the value of these items compared to that in your prospective deal. People have been known to get positive feedback on auction sites by buying loads of 1 cent items. Also ensure there is feedback on them as a seller, in addition to as a buyer.
Tl;dr- Is the feedback relevant over time, for sensible items? Is the value in the range you are dealing with? Does the feedback cover selling and buying?
4.
Is the person easy to deal with? Are they easy to contact before agreeing on the deal? If not, you can bet they will be even less reachable if something goes wrong. If there is a language barrier, could that prove problematic if something went wrong?
5.
Only ship to the verified PayPal address. If you get given a P.O. box address or non standard address, remember that you don't have any idea who you are dealing with. If an address is PayPal verified, it means they receive their credit card bill at the address shown. And proof of address is required to open a credit card.
6.
Use your common sense. If someone is selling something that is going on ebay in similar condition for more, consider why they are doing this, when ebay would give them more money.

12. Sharing​​XDA-Developers is based on the principle of sharing to transmit knowledge. This is the cornerstone of our site. Our members and developers freely share their experience, knowledge, and finished works with the rest of the community to promote growth within the developer community, and to encourage those still learning to become better. There are those, however, who take advantage of this model and try to make personal gains from the hard work of others.​​In order to preserve the delicate balance between sharing for the good of the community and blatant self-promotion, regular members and developers alike must understand (and agree) to the following:​​12.1. Give credits where due - Credits and acknowledgements for using and releasing work which is based on someone else's work are an absolute must. Works reported to have no credits will be taken down until proper acknowledgements are added by the member in question;​​12.2. Courtesy - While most of the work released on our site falls under the umbrella of open source, that is not the only license model being used by developers on xda-developers. In order to prevent problems, we ask that if you decide to base your work on someone else's that you check the license model being used (as it might not be as permissive as one may think);​​12.3. Re-releasing other's works as your own is forbidden. The code that you release into the wild must have something beyond minor aesthetic changes that makes it better than the last. As this can be subjective, kang reports will be reviewed on a case by case basis. If you feel that your code has been kanged, please contact the Dev Relations team (listed below) if you cannot solve the issue amicably via PM. Please understand that you will be asked to provide evidence to substantiate your claim;​​12.4. Developers can issue take down requests (by contacting the Dev Relations team) under the following circumstances:​​- in-process builds start showing up on forums when the developer is not yet ready to release the work;​- cases in which another developer is too aggressively soliciting donations or misrepresenting the work (kanging);​- unofficial builds where an official build is already available;​​In summary, we want people to have access to work and knowledge alike. Sharing is good and courtesy and ethics go a long way.​​Developers with questions, comments, complaints, or concerns about our rules (or anything!) should send a PM to our Dev Relations team (efrant or sykopompos) or to a Moderator. We are here to help!​​13. Development Forums (ones with the word development in the title) - For Developers to post release threads e.g. ROMs and Kernels including modifications to kernels, bootloaders, ROMs, etc., as well as R&D development discussion threads designed with an end goal
Themes and Apps Forums - For the posting of Themes and / or Apps as well as announcements & discussions including modifications made to Themes and Apps.
16. Apps that collect identifying details​​We don't routinely remove Apps that collect identifying numbers or other personal and device identifiers.​However, should an App, developed by you, be identified as one that maliciously performs this activity (e.g. by not disclosing it to the user), it will be removed from the site and possible sanctions applied;​
If the destination of this information is known, it must be made known in the disclosure (examples of this would be you having coded your App to collect IMEI for authentication of the device using it)
If the destination of this information is unknown (as is the case for ad. engines, which collect it for marketing purposes), then please state which ad. provider you are using, in the disclaimer

Member conduct. 2.1 Language: XDA is a worldwide community. As a result, what may be OK to say in your part of the world, may not be OK elsewhere. Please consider who is reading what you write and don't use profanity, sexually explicit language, rudeness or swearing including the use of characters to replace letters in swear words. Conversely, while reading posts from other members, remember that the word you find offensive may not be offensive to the writer. Tolerance is a two-way street. 2.2 Nudity: XDA is used by people of all ages, including minors. It is unacceptable to post nude or pornographic imagery, which includes the exposure of male or female genitalia and / or female breasts. 2.3 Flaming / Lack of respect: XDA is about sharing and this does not involve virtual yelling (flaming) or rudeness. Flaming or posting with a lack of respect is unacceptable. Treat new members in the manner in which you would like to have been treated when you were a new member. When dealing with any member, provide them with guidance, advice and instructions when you can, showing them respect and courtesy. Never post in a demanding, argumentative, disrespectful or self-righteous manner. 2.4 Personal attacks, racial, political and / or religious discussions: XDA is a discussion forum about certain mobile phones. Mobile phones are not racial, political, religious or personally offensive and therefore, none of these types of discussions are permitted on XDA. 2.5 All members are expected to read and adhere to the XDA rules. 3. Post using a clear and descriptive subject and message. You're most likely to receive a helpful answer to your question, if you use a short subject title that describes your problem and a message that explains in detail, what your problem is and what you've done to try solving it. 4. Use the English language. We understand that with all the different nationalities, not everyone speaks English well, but please try. If you're really unable to post in English, use an online translator. You're free to include your original message in your own language, below the English translation. (This rule covers your posts, profile entries and signature). 5. Create a thread or post a message only once. As a large forum, we don't need unnecessary clutter. You're free to edit your message as you like, so if you do not receive an answer, revisit your message and see if you can describe your problem better. Not everyone is online at the same time so it might take a while before you receive an answer. (Also refer to Rule 16) 6. Do not post warez. If a piece of software requires you to pay to use it, then pay for it. We do not accept warez and nor do we permit any member to request, promote or describe ways in which warez, cracks, serial codes or other means of avoiding payment, can be obtained. This is a site of developers, i.e. the sort of people who create such software. When you cheat a software developer, you cheat us as a community. 7. Do not spam, sell or trade on the forums. * If you wish to advertise a product, simply contact us. We can provide ads but you are not permitted to just post it in the forums. If you do, it will be removed and you're likely to receive a ban. * On the 30th Nov 2012 the Marketplace closed. The buying, selling, trading and / or exchanging of any item is now prohibited on XDA, in any forum or via Private Messages. We now use www.swappa.com 8. Donations. We appreciate all donations to XDA-Developers.com as it helps to keep our forum online and well maintained. As a user, you're allowed to ask for donations in your signature as a thank you for your hard work, however donations up front are not allowed. This forum is about sharing and not about getting paid to do something... that is what your job is for. 9. Don't get us into trouble. Don't post copyrighted materials or do other things which will obviously lead to legal trouble. If you wouldn't do it on your own homepage, you probably shouldn't do it here either. This does not mean that we agree with everything that the software piracy lobby try to impose on us. It simply means that you cannot break any laws here, since we'll end up dealing with the legal hassle caused by you. Please use common sense: respect the forum, its users and those that write great code. 10. Help others if you can. If you see posts from others where you can help out, please do so. This place exists because people are helping each other, and even if you are relatively new to the matter, there's probably quite a few people with less experience than you, who could benefit from what you've learned. Proprietors of for-pay products or services, may use XDA to get feedback, provide beta access, or a free version of their product for XDA users and to offer support, but not to post with the intention of selling. This includes promoting sites similar / substantially similar to XDA-Developers.com. * Do not post press releases, announcements, links to trial software or commercial services, unless you’re posting an exclusive release for XDA-Developers.com. * Encouraging members to participate in forum activities on other phone related sites is prohibited. * Off-site downloads are permitted if the site is non-commercial and does not require registration. * Off-site downloads from sites requiring registration are NOT encouraged but may be permitted if both of the following conditions are met: A) The site belongs to a member of XDA-Developers with at least 1500 posts and 2 years membership, who actively maintains an XDA-Developers support thread(s) / posts, related to the download. B) The site is a relatively small, personal website without commercial advertising / links (i.e. not a competitor forum-based site with purposes and aims similar to those of XDA-Developers.com.) 12. Using the work of others. If you are developing something that is based on the work of another Member, you MUST first seek their permission and you must give credit to the member whose work you used. If a dispute occurs about who developed / created a piece of work, first try to settle the matter by private message and NOT in open forum. If this fails, you may then contact a Moderator and provide clear evidence that the work was created by you. Convincing evidence will result in the copied work being removed. If there is no clear evidence that it was you who created the work, then in the spirit of sharing, all work will remain posted on the forums. As an addition, developers have the right to hold exclusivity over their work for as long as it is deemed necessary by that developer. However, if the work is claimed as exclusive, it must remain as such. No selective sharing will be allowed (ie, allowing certain people to use it and not others). If the developer decides to start sharing the work with others, the work automatically becomes available for all to use, albeit with the relevant credit displayed. When permission has already been given, unless there is a very valid reason, it cannot be revoked (same applies to major updates on the work). Under that same premise, permissions cannot be denied unless the work is exclusive or under extreme circumstances. In plain English: If you want to keep your work exclusive, go for it. However, if you are going to share your work, do it fairly. These rules apply to all software posted on XDA (including but not limited to ROMs, RUUs, apps, games, kernels, themes, icons, etc) unless that software comes with a license that waives these rules. 13. Advertising and Income Generation Commercial advertising, advertising referral links, pay-per-click links and other income generating methods are forbidden. Do not use XDA-Developers as a means to make money. 14. Create only ONE User Account You are allowed ONE User Account at XDA-Developers. If you create additional accounts, Moderators will disable them and your original account may also be disabled or infracted. 15. Keep threads / posts on-topic Whilst a minor amount of off-topic posting may be overlooked, the general rule is that your posts / threads must be relevant to the Forum / thread in which you are posting. * General Forums - For news and announcements relating to your device. * Q&A Help & Troubleshooting Forums - For all question / request threads and posts. If there is no Q&A Help & Troubleshooting forum, use the General Forum of the relevant device * Accessories Forum - For posts related to accessories relevant to the device * Development Forums (ones with the word development in the title) - For Developers to post release threads e.g. ROMs and Kernels including modifications to kernels, bootloaders, ROMs, etc. * Themes and Apps Forums - For the posting of Themes and / or Apps as well as announcements & discussions including modifications made to Themes and Apps. 16. Bumping Threads (posting simply to force a thread to the top of the thread queue) Do not "bump" a thread more than once per 24 hours. 17. Apps that collect identifying details We don't routinely remove Apps that collect identifying numbers or other personal and device identifiers. However, should an App, developed by you, be identified as one that maliciously performs this activity (e.g. by not disclosing it to the user), it will be removed from the site and possible sanctions applied; * If the destination of this information is known, it must be made known in the disclosure (examples of this would be you having coded your App to collect IMEI for authentication of the device using it) * If the destination of this information is unknown (as is the case for ad. engines, which collect it for marketing purposes), then please state which ad. provider you are using, in the disclaimer Marketplace http://swappa.com/

Please think about who is reading what you write. Keep in mind that what you think of as acceptable use of language may not be acceptable to others. Conversely, while reading member posts, remember that word you find offensive may not be to the writer. Tolerance is a two way street.

Sharing does not involve virtual yelling (flaming) it does involve working together to solve problems in an environment of mutual respect and understanding. Losing your temper and flaming another member, or group of members, is not acceptable behavior.
2.4 Personal attacks, racial, political and/or religious discussions: XDA is a discussion forum about certain mobile phones. Mobile phones are not racial, political, religious or personally offensive, therefore none of these types of discussions are permitted on XDA.
2.5 Courtesy towards other Members: Treat new members the way you would like to have been treated when you were a new member.
