The Original 7inch galaxy tab never had official support for the usb adapter. The newer versions (7.7, plus) and 10.1 and 8.9 do.
At the moment it seems the only way to get the tab to read usbs, is with a ROM with the usb capable kernal (ICS roms seem to be the only ones that support USB host)
Even then, you need to have the same set up as this because the tab can't supply an external power source itself, hence the need of external power. It's far less elegant than a single adapter like the 10.1 option.

Yes, I've seen some descriptions that say it is, in fact a USB host.
It would be very cool if that is indeed the case. I only wonder what's taking Samsung so long to release a simple dongle?
+1 I want this NOW! Plan to buy a 1.8" 250GB Samsung HDD and fill with movies etc for going on holiday etc.

That +this = greatness
Mobile media center. Now if only I can charge with the usb host adapter at the same time.
Any idea when this is coming?
Really looking forward to it.
Awesome, just picked up a Galaxy Tab off Craigslist.
Question? Do you think we could use with say a Sprint 3G USB dongle?

No but you could get a myfi or something like this.

But why not get a plan for it? What carrier is it?
Well it's a Sprint one. But I have a data card already and a Smartphone with a plan as well. Trying to see of I could use a dongle or somehow tether with Bluetooth. I may eventually get a pan with it.
I love it so far, very awesome in deed. Was my first experience with Android also. Beein using a Windows Treo Pro.

Anyone got any news on this?

Okay, the baove is mentioning the Hardware but i want to ask about the software since i couldn't recognize that there is anything in the setting related to enabling USB to GO
I dont think this will be available for the 7" first gen Galaxy tabs.
I use a Mogo mouse (Bluetooth) with my Tab - works fine. It charges in the expresscard slot in my laptop. I just ordered a USB-to-expresscard adapter...
My goal is to tap that Tab slot and make an adapter to power the expresscard adapter, thus enabling me to charge the Mogo mouse.

I don't know if I understood you right, but there's no power-out from GTS. Just a heads up!

If you try to connect a USB-dongel it would need drivers, and I don't think there is any android drivers for those.

[Q] New galaxy tab 10 support usb host?

Hi everyone,
I am willing to buy one of this new kandies - Galaxy tab 10 inch. My question is whether it will support usb host capabilities or not. It is very crucial for my buying/or not decision that I can connect external hd drive so i can carry with me my music and my movies when on vacation.
Please let me know if this capability will be inherent or there is a passthrough.
If not any other suggestions for another tablet?
Thanks in advance
None of the tablets that were announced spoke of USB host as a feature. It's ridiculous!!
Why they keep ignoring it is beyond me. Only tablet I've seen so far with this feature is the Notion Ink Adam
Does anyone think that this is a honeycomb issue? Maybe an update in honeycomb will work things out?
im sure it will via that usb connector thing

If honeycomb (and pressumably Galaxy tab 10) support usb host mode then maybe the solution is as follows
//beyondthekeeboard.wordpress.com/2010/10/30/hacking-away-with-android-pt-2-making-your-own-usb-host-cable/[/url]
The xoom also has USB host capability
Acer Iconia Tab has a full sized USB port and has host mode. The new 10.1 and 8.9 Samsung tabs do not.

Samsung USB adapter

After update for Gingerbread I can use a bluetooth mouse which helps me navigate quicker when I have a long story or several emails to respond to. Works well when the GT is docked on the keyboard station.
Wondered if anyone has used the Samsung adapter for USB with any success on the seven inch tab. I know it says for the 10.1 version but those updates were before the Gingerbread release. I have seen a few comments where opinions vary on if it will work.
also waiting for the answer
What model of mouse?
I use a bluetooth keyboard for a mac.
im waiting for the answer
Does anyone make a Doc that lets you view the tablet in landscape?

Body Glove makes a case with the built in kickstand which works in landscape or portrait. I use it and my charging cable.

I just got my USB adapter for the 10.1 in the mail today. Yeah, it can plug right into the 7", but the 7" doesn't have a clue. Nothin'.
Are you using 2.3.3 or 2.3.4?

OTG compatibility

I just tried the OTG cable (that was purchased for the Samsung Galaxy S3) works perfectly on my non rooted Galaxy Camera. No additional software required, it worked straight out of the box. It saw my usb stick and files all useable

Nice info mate.. thanks.
Now all we need is just "phone enable mod" and we are complete
Can you copy files to an USB stick that's formated in NTFS? That would be ideal when you are abroad and need to empty the camera. Probably you can copy to FAT32 but if you record long movies NTFS would be the better choice. Why I ask is because if you use NTFS on for example my nexus 7 it's only read on NTFS and not write compatible.

For NTFS i use Paragon NTFS but you need root.

You mean for the nexus 7? Why I'm asking is because of I'm thinking of getting a galaxy camera and want to know what I can use on it before I buy it. Probably I will root it if I get it.

Yes I discovered it working fine today too. What I really want however is to be able to store photos from the camera straight into a memory stick hanging from the USB OTG. It's greyed out. Hmm.

No that doesn't work as you say. I am wondering why you'd want to do this anyway. Surely you can either use a larger memory card inside or just transfer over to the OTG as and when using the file manager? Also I think there would be an additional risk in accidently unplugging your OTG whilst taking pictures with the greatest possibility of corrupting your card and worse, losing your photo's.
I think
I think the OTG opens possibilities to external hardware options, like flash, light etc

Hi, you can get a OTG cable (Micro Usb Male 5Pin to USB 2.0 A Female Converter Adapter) for Tab 3 7'', so that you can read your Flash Drive/Pen Drive.
Don't purchase mhl to HDMI adapter for your tab, tab 3 7.0 is not the MHL-enabled device.
