[Q] Partition SD card using CWM recovery - Galaxy Ace S5830 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hello guy
i want to ask u all
how can i partition my sd card using cwm?
i can see advanced > partition sd card
if can, can u show how to do it and what to do after done this step?
is it safe?
i want to do it via minitool partition but i do not have sd card reader
i'm using ketut blackhawk dxkt7 rom

You can partition the sd card using CWM recovery.
Be sure to backup your data as in the partition the sd card is formatted.
After selecting partition sd card the first thing you will see is the option to select the size of the partition that you want to make (generally select 1024=1gb).
Next will be the swap size. This is optional.
After selecting these options your sd card will be formatted with a 1gb ext partition.
Hope this helps.

I use CWM partitioning in conjunction with DTA2SD and it's awesome
Herpderp Defy.

I'm with SuperAce609 here. Look into my signature and find the link in which I've thanked him. After partitioning your SD card, the only thing you have to do is install S2E and reboot your SGA after you install any CM7 based Custom ROM. & boom! No matter if you install 100+ apps, you will never be out of internal memory.

use the search option.

Hello i am newbi in this amazing world of android and i have A question were i can found the cwm recovery link becasu i looking fir that here and i can't found it thanks

Ok, this is my LG Optimus 3D system:
System ROM:1GB
Internal ROM: 1GB
Internal SD Card: 6GB
Ext SD Card: 32GB
I always facing "out of internal memory" problem. So, if I ever partition my SD Card vi CWM, what will change? Which part can be greater in size?

Can't. CWM makes ext3 partition, period.
You'd have to modify cwm to get it to partition in ext4 format.

I found this "4EXTRecovery" interesting for making ext4, just to make sure if anyone use and confirmed it work.

Thanks.

According to my experience.. cwm 5.0.2.6 for galaxy ace makes an ext2 partition.. It doesn't give any other ext option.. I don't know how is it possible to make ext3/4 partition using cwm..
By the way, what's the latest cwm version for galaxy ace ??

Problems partioning sd card

Hi there i'm using a sumsung galaxy ace gt-s5830 running gingerbread 2.3.3. I've followed an Xda tutorial on how to partion my sd card but no matter how much I try the same error occurs and my phone reads the sd card as damged.
That happened to me also.
Follow these steps.
1. Fully format the sdcard. total wipe.
2. To partition use Cwm, it's the easiest method. Here's how to partition using cwm:
Reboot to CWM Recovery
Go to advanced
Select Partition Sd Card
Select in MB, how much you want to partition on sd card. 1024 mb is quite enough.
Select 0m for the next screen.
After it's done, Reboot
Now you've partitioned. and ur sd card is totally ok!
You can now go and use apps or scripts like amarullz, or apps 2 sd, link 2 sd and s2e.
Cheers,
M567.
thanks

next time use search before posting
partitioning will wipe all the data so better copy of to another storage
boot into recovery
then go to advanced
select partition sdcard
choose 512mb as the ext partition size
choose 0mb as swap size
you sdcard will be partitioned

Another way would be putting ur car into an sdcard reader and partition using mini tool partition wizard. Cwm wipes the data on your sdcard but mini tool doesn't. So if ur using Cwm then be sure to backup the content first!
Edit: putting your card in an sdcard reader

Can't I choose a larger size for ext, or it is needed to be 512mb?

he said his sdcard is only of 4gb that's why I suggested to make ext part of 512mb
but in general it can be anything

ginger dx 29 stock and ext2 partition

everytime i try and create a ext2/3/4 partition on my sd card the rom will then refuse to mount the sd card it says mounting sd card then sd card is safe to remove
it is partitioned correctly with primary as fat 32 6gb and a second logical partition of 512mb running ext2/3/4 all ofthem will not allow the rom to mount the sd card anyideas?
ok found the issuen i think it is detecting the ext3 partition as the main one and trys to loads this up first bu can as its ext not a fat32

Go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1117100 . You can partition your card directly from within the program. Your card will be wiped, so backup your data. Also, better to have your antivirus program disabled.
Or you can install the nobodyAtall CWM 3.2.0.0r3 or the nobodyAtall CWM 3.2.0.0r4 from that program as well, there's an option in the Advanced menu for partitioning.
CWM 4.0.1.5 and XRecovery don't have options for partitioning.

have tried that but none of the options will work on my device
well finally got the dam x8toolbox to detect my phone and partiton the sd card ait was working fine till i took sd card out to add files back on to it and back to square one the phone wont mount the sd card as it detect the sd-ext partition first and tried and fails to mount that as storage
Without digging deeper into it, maybe you could just not take the card out and just use the USB to transfer the files.
What OS are you running on your computer?
Maybe u are using Linux swap that's why it is unmounting the SD card. & both partitions must be primary (not logical)(ext2/3/4)
Sent from my W8 using xda app-developers app
Make the ext partition as PRIMARY, not as LOGICAL partition (as suggested in the previous post) This the problem source. (The logical partitions have different partition numbers)

Partitioning SD card for GingerDX

Hi I would like to partition my SD card 8 GB class 4 and want to ready it for GingerDX latest with latest nAa kernel, can I use ext3 as third partition ? co'z right now I'm on eclair and I want to use link2sd later on.. right now it says "Blank or unsupported filesystem click to format the SD card" if I try partitioning the SD card.
p.s : what's the benefit of swap partition ?
Thanks in advance.
You can partition your SD card right from CWM recovery.
You can find info about swap here.

+ partition like this
--------------------fat32-----------------|-----ext2/3/4---|--------Linux swap-----
#######Most important part is to set all partitions as "primary"(setting to "logical" cause "blank sdcard"error )

The most recommended partition table is:
First partition: FAT32
Second partition: EXT2 or EXT4 without journaling (usually 500 MB should be enough)
Third partition could be for swap, but I think nobody is using in our phones (we have enough memory and zRam helps a bit more).

View this video clip http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c3jX3ARSOi4 for steps to format and partition a SD card using Amon RA recovery. BEFORE YOU FORMAT YOUR SD CARD, YOU NEED TO BACK UP THE CONTENTS TO YOUR PC FIRST BECAUSE EVERYTHING WILL BE WIPED OFF!!! You only need 1GB for your sd-ext partition and no swap. Once you have partitioned the SD card you need to upgrade the ext2 to ext3 then ext3 to ext4.
or install 4ext recovery. using that you can easily partition ur sd. thats the easiest way i guess

Yea. Totally agree with n1newbie. 4EXT Touch is the best recovery out there. I tried partitioning before using CWM, and it was a mess. 4EXT is way more reliable.
