[Q] Change CSC and official updates behavior - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I bought a Galaxy Note almost 2 months ago and I have a question about CSC.
The Note is KKA KK5 KK5 having XEF (France) CSC.
I tried to access *#272*IMEI# and I am able to change to whatever CSC I want (multi csc).
I know that if I change it, it will hard reset. My question is if updating then via OTA or Kies, the update service will understand I need first a Wipe Rom and then an incremental update (if any)?
Or I must flash it via Odin an official Rom to align CSC and PDA+PHONE?
Do that invalidates my guarantee?
Thanks in advance!

Flashing stock Roms via Odin will not invalidate your warranty.
If you change your CSC you will be getting normal OTA/Kies updates for the country you set.

Huh. I did that on mine to see what mine is set to and I get an error that says "Connection problem or invalid MMI code"?

Ok, but even if after factory reset I'll get a KKA/KK5/KK5 e.g. DBT or AUT...
It will understand to update to the first Wipe rom of DBT or AUT region?

Hahahahaha, OMG am I an idiot!!! I'm new to the unlocked GSM phones (always been ripped off by VZW) and as I'm sure you've already figured out I typed the numbers on the dialer that spelled IMEI. Wow do I feel stupid right now...

I think unless you do not change Geographic region should be ok I think...

changing CSC
but remember if u change the csc it should be equal to the rom u use, or u wont get the updates trough KIES.. if ur CSC dont match the installed ROM then KIES wont reqonise your phone and u wont be able to update via KIES

So you all confirm that changing CSC does not let the phone to automatically get updates for the associated country, but it is necessary to manually put a stock ROM via Odin matching one of the existing couples (Rom, CSC)?

My phone has the xtc csc with no voice assisted google maps navigation. Is it based on the CSC or where I'm physically located?

I am unsure. I know my unlocked came with a CSC code for the UK but Google Maps Navigation works there so I am not sure.
Honestly I would say you might be best just making a back up of your phone and trying it. If it does not work change your CSC back to what you have now that you know works.
I will go out on a limb and say that I have not read anything from anyone saying changing their CSC stopped any google services that operate in the country that they live in. This could be from picking up your IMEI number or the carrier (IE ATT will not be found in China).
Best of luck.

[Q] Wanted UK Android 2.2.1

Hey this will sound like a seriously stupid question but anyone got official UK Carphone Wharehouse Android 2.2.1 for me to use with odin
Trying to switch back to uk cos kies is seeing it as a XEE which i think is a Sweeden rom.
Any help would be much appreciated!
Thanks!
if you bought from carphone warehouse then your phone should be unbranded. You just need to visit samfirmware.com and download the required samsung firmware and flash with odin.
Thanks!
only one small problem i have absolutely no idea which one is for CPW and which is for the UK specifically
There is a *# code you can enter to change from XEE to XEU but I am not sure if it has CPW and an option and I cannot remember the code. Perhaps someone else does?
Thanks for the info, if anyone else can help that would be great.
found the code cant make it work
quick update i found a website saying that i should enter *#272* imei# but i get to the screen i see the product code and then what i cant select it or anything, any ideas?
Thanks!

All you need to do is flash the JPY CSC, that will get you CPW and XEU as it's a multi-CSC, If you're interestedm here's a link to a JS5 / JPY / JP5 ROM package that you can flash to get the latest stock JS5 PDA with the JPY CSC and JP5 (UK Vodafone) modem. I use it on my phone and it works great, flash it with Odin with no PIT or repartition selected. Root with SuperOneClick: http://www.multiupload.com/Q1O3GP6AJP
Hey
Thanks, will download the file and try and flash the jyp csc to the phone and chnage the product code.

The JPY CSC has the CPW files included so if you phone is currently configured as CPW then it will stay CPW, if it is configured as another product code (eg. XEN), flashing this CSC will allow you to go back to CPW. You can go back by entering the following on the phone dialer keypad (IMEI = your phone's IMEI!) *#272*IMEI# Then select the product code you want and you're away! Be aware that this product / sales code reset will do a factory reset on your phone so you will have to re-root and reinstall all your apps. Good luck!
It worked!
Wohoo!
thanks to all that helped.
installed i9000XXJPY through odin and changed the product code to CPW. am atm debating to install lagfix, seems to run fairly well

Glad to hear you got it working! You shouldn't really need a lag fix with 2.2.1 as the horrible lag we used to get with 2.1 and 2.2 is gone. Some folk do install lagfixes (although I don't myself) and the favourite seems to be an EXT4 one these days.

Firmware upgrade is not supported by Kies.WTF??

When I plug my phone to the computer it connects to Kies but it comes up with this message.
The phone was bought from Handtec UK they seem to have bought these from Poland and the startup language is Swiss.
The firmware on the handset is not region coded that's why Kies does not update the phone eg the firmware number should have (xeu) or (dbt) (specific to region for eg dbt is for germany) after it specifying the region, this one doesn't.
I'm going to send mine back as I don't want to root this phone.
Any feedback would be appreciated.
Same here. But i thought an update would be available later?
Dont worry friends. When update for galaxy note is available in your region, ur installed version of KIES will be updated to support the upgrade. Theres nothing wrong with your devices.
Are on a Mac? The OSX version of Kies doesnt support firmware upgrades.

I don't think so, when there is no update it usually says you are on the current firmware.
this is a problem with the region coding. These devices don't have a region code ID suffix. For eg: XEU, DBT, XXF, ROM. These basically tell Kies what region the device is from. If that is missing there is no way Kies can update cos it will not understand what region the device is from. I think I'm right, pls correct me if I'm wrong
Thank you.

Um. I have a Handtec Polish Note.
Kies gives me the "Your device does not support software upgrading by Kies" message.
Doing a *#272*imei#* (Display/change CSC code) displayed region KOR.
I changed it to XEU but no go, just made my phone hard reset.
Device still unsupported.
Maybe it won't work in Australia.
This won't matter in the long run.
Success.

I changed the CSC Code (kies wont allow you to upgrade if you have KOR code, as this is the generic one and it is not linked to any region)
Just type type in *#272*IMEI# in your dialer (IMEI=your IMEI number)and it will come up a menu to choose the CSC.
I choose DBT (Germany) and after that was able to update via Kies.
NOTICE THAT CHANGING THE CSC CODE WILL RESET YOUR TERMINAL AND YOU WILL LOSE ALL YOUR DATA (factory reset).

[Q] Manually change CSC

Hi to everyone!.
Like the title says, I want to manually change the CSC of a i9000b to a unlisted one, so after a bit of search I've found this two directories that contains CSC:
-/system/csc/sales_code.dat
-/efs/imei/mps_code.dat
Editing the first one (sales_code.dat) does nothing, and I've fear to edit the second one (mps_code.dat in efs).
So there is any risk of edditing only 'mps_code.dat' and don't mess IMEI number or anything else?
This will change the phone CSC?
With the retail CSC on the phone, I can get a retail firmware update from Kies?
Thanks to all
Have you tried *#272*your imei#
This will give you a selection of csc codes to choose from. If you do pick any of them it will instantly factory reset your phone with no warning.
If you have tried this please explain what you mean by "unlisted" csc code. You mean one that does not have network firmware? If so then CSC will not change your firmware you will have to install another firmware for that (an unbranded firmware).
If you wish to remove the network lock this will not work, you need to get the unlock code, search for that or call your provider and they will do it for you at a cost.
Also i would not advise changing anything in the efs folder, as you mentioned, it could mess up your imei...
Let me know if that helps..

Hi , the point is that I don't have multi CSC (I can't change it by *#272*...*) so I've to change to a 'unlisted' one.
I never say that that will change my firmware, the idea is that with the CSC changed to a retail one, Kies will enable my to update a Retail Firmware to the phone. (or maybe not?, that's the point)

Unfortunately that will not work. If you want retail firmware (unlocked/ non-carrier/ no-network firmware?) then you will have to install that first. If you search for it in the general section you should be able to find it, search for stock firmware. Also you can get it via Sammobile.com Click on firmwares tab (underneath the news link at the top) and follow till you find the stock firmware for you region.

Why it will not work? Can you explain? thanks
CSC i think stands for "country specific code". However even if it doesn't it is a relation to what the code is.
The code identifies the region/country you are in. For example I'm in the UK therefore i have a CSC code of XEU this is a code that is for the EU. Which could affect the signal performance, i may get better or i may get worse or i may get no signal at all. Also I may get 2g signal but no data connection etc. It could also cause issues with receiving SMS messages if the correct or compatible code is not used. For example the time and date may be incorrect, the messages in the list may be out of order (the message you sent is below the reply received).
Therefore it affects your relationship with the carrier and is usually better optimised for your country/region. When you connect to Kies the CSC code is taken into account but so is the actual firmware. By changing the CSC you do not change the firmware to stock firmware it remains carrier/network customised. As such this will be detected by Kies when you connect. If you change the CSC and then connect to Kies I think it does not accept your firmware installed as original authorised firmware, as my CSC was set to KOR after returning from a software reflash from an authorised repair centre. However this may be different for you and I cannot guarantee what will happen but to my knowledge this will not work.
As i mentioned you will need to flash stock firmware yourself or go to a non-carrier authorised repair centre (I used carphone warehouse in the UK) and ask for a software update. You can find your nearest authorised repair centre on the samsung website.
Also if you search you will probably find a better explanation to what CSC is and understand why it won't work, I did my best hope it makes sense
I get your point , instead of CSC I think I was trying to mean Product Code.
By edditing Product Code (and a valid Software revision?) can I cheat Kies to get me a retail update?. Like the old method of editing the registry but on the phone.
Unfortunately I'm not experienced enough to give you an answer on that. But I would think that it would take more than that to trick Kies.
What is holding you back from going to an authorised repair centre or a just using Odin? (Using Odin is actually quite simple provided you follow the steps and have the right files, which Sammobile does provide). You will be left with the retail firmware and Kies will recognise you and provide any updates available.
The problem is that I couldn't find the firmware on samfirmware or any other site. I've found this just now http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1032437, so maybe I can finally get the official upgrade.
Sorry to bring this back up, but my CSC is blank too.
I typed in the *#272*your imei# and the option for sales code VOD came up. I selected it, but it tells me that "Must be THREE chars". VOD is three characters. Why cant I select it???
Hi
I live in holland, so i don't have the 4.0.4 update yet. If i change my CSC, does it change region so i can download the 4.0.4 update?
thanks in advance

[Q] CSC Unknown

I installed a rooted rom on my s3 mini and all was good. I then installed a csc changer to check what my csc was, when I seen it was SEB I changed it to BTU because I am in the UK. But when the phone rebooted the csc was "unknown" and the csc changer was showing it blank. My problem now is that I have all my back ups on Kies which now will not see my phone. I have searched, found and tried many solutions to this all to no avail. I tried the original SEB unrooted rom, still csc unknown, I tried various rooted roms and none would let me change the csc no matter what app I used. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a LOT, mate!! That´s what I was looking for
Downloaded modem, stock recovery and TWRP now. Unfortunately I couldn´t get the modem back to be shown as it is (after a ROM update modem changed to XXXX ....... since then IMEI was working though, calls were working too but no mobile internet connection) but mobile internet seems to work again now, too... Very curious so far.
Restoring EFS didn´t work but maybe it will work now as CSC is changed back to DBT now or so.. Sometimes flashing Sammy ROMS as PHONE instead of PDA does work (read that in another thread in here).

Well the problem is partly solved.. I flashed stock recovery, stock ROM and that modem you can find in tys0n´s signature. Mobile internet is working again but modem still shows XXXX - weird thing ^^
Give it a try in that way. As it seems this is a possibility to get your device working again.
I´ll continue trying and if I find a way to solve it finally I´ll let you know.

try to reflash your ROM with odin as "CSC" not as "PDA" then it should show your right csc code again.

I try this method but csc still unknown. Is there another method?

[Guide] How to convert s10-g973N to sm-g973f, change csc from skc to koo or any another, fix emergency calls only. No need of paid apps, boxes etc.

**********This is first time am posting a guide so pardon me. *******
********As usual am not responsible for anything that happens to your phone.*******
*****Am not claiming ownership of the above technique, its what worked for me*****
I saw many posts here about people struggling to change csc from skc to koo or international***
Others had issue with their phone suddenly lost network and just displays emergency calls only****
so I have s10 sm-g973n which had csc as koo then flashed skc my mistake. The phone booted with annoying skc boot logo, and branded junk from the carrier. Then one morning the phone couldn't connect to gsm network!
I tried all manner of things to fix it. Rooted with magisk, flashed custom rom nothing.
Tried samkey to change csc still nothing. modified odin in flashing multi csc rom nothing.
Got some luck in changing csc by editing efs/imei/mps_code.dat using root explorer, text editor and vola the carrier junk disappeared. But still no network.
was told only way is to use z3x box or chimera to patch certificate but didn't give up. I posted question here in xda but no guide or response.
But that gave me an idea of what could be the issue- corrupt efs that needs the certificate to be patched. so got keyword.
After watching many YouTube videos I came across a video about a rom that has certificate patched. Just flash with odin and done!
I downloaded and followed the instructions. The phone booted up fine and after going through initial setup the network was back!
Not only did the network came back but the model changed to F, csc became oxm! You can now use tools like Samfw from too to change csc to your local region.
Later in the day, will be flashing firmware with my region csc.
Here is the link to the rom:

Yes sim 2 will work. And after completing flash stock rom for security reasons. Because the above rom is rooted and modified we don't know how secure it is. after network certificates are patched now flash a stock rom from eg sammobile or samfw etc.
When i flash this file the storage becomes 64gb
Hey bro have u found any android 12 rom for g973N ???

Did you find a fix for that? For me the internal memory become 32Gb. Is there a solution for that?
I bought an S10 that turned out to be a G973N(SKC) flashed to G973F-D/S(XSG). I think they used this method and these files to do it. I can't get the OEM unlock option to come up. I've tried everything. I am starting to think that it's because of the XSG country code. I was going to try to change it XEU (Great Britain) in SamFW but it just stalls and doesn't do anything. Any suggestions on what I can do here to change the country code? I need that OEM unlock option so I can degoogle it.
Hi guys,
I have I big problem with this rom man, each time I restart my phone i lost network and I have to reflash your rom and factory reset the phone to get it back. It's like it's forbidden to restart the phone, otherwise my network get lost and IMEI Status NG again.. Is there a fix for that? Thank you. Is there a for that fix?
Or do you guys have a rom based on android 12 for g973n u7 converted to dual sim that can solve this IMei STATUS NG? I watched on youtube some guys that have it but it's not free or I can't pay that from here in my cluntry the poorest country in the world.
