[Q] ThunderBolt help!! - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

heyy guys i found the ThunderBolt 2.5.1 and followed the instructions for the installation. installed all the cwm.zips but now my fone freezes on kernel flash screen do yu know if i can reverse it or something?? plzz helpp. i have sgs i9000 running cm9 build16 on semaphore 0.8.1 kernel

Go to CWM, wipe data and flash rom and kernel again. Not all thunderbolt tweaks can be used on ics as they're made for GB.

Don't flash thunderbolt again, first look at pikachu's thread which tweaks are compatible with ics.

I looked at pikachu's ThunderBolt thread and it says that only the main cwm works with ics for now. I am not sure what he means by "the main cwm", and it doesnt specify which ics, but states that ThunderBolt should work on all ROM without exception. Any suggestions?

He means the main script (thunderbolt 2.5.1, the one in first post). But LMK and I think it was screenstate scaling(both in second post) do also work on ics. And it's the same on all ics roms.

Theeeen how come it didnt work on mine? Maybe i did something wrong then? All i did is download the main cwm, reboot into recovery, mount everything (i.e /system, /data, /datadata, /sdcard, /emmc) then flashed the zip. Everything went well, but when i rebooted the system, it didnt go past the kernel flash screen (semaphore ics pic in my case)...

Edit: its all good. The fix was i needed a kernel that supported init.d and needed to make sure not to mess up with mounts.

HKTW got special settings for crystal talk
does your rom suffers from the missing widgets problem every time you shut down and boot up again? i am asking because i tried already homebase and aura which have faux's kernel and both have the same problem... CM7 beta has a kernel that does not have this problem...
So I dl and flashed using the instructions you posted.
I originally had blue cronic installed and it seems like most of the ui from it was still running after reboot. Also all of the apps had a fc issue going on so I had to restore. Should I have to flash back to stock before flashing your rom?

I would assume so. The missing widgets problem appears to be linked to faux's kernel, which this has. In faux's thread even people on CM7 that use his kernel experience the widget problem.

It is no necessary to back to stock.
I had CM7 before. After Wipe data, cache, then install, no problem at all.
Lol did you remove the download link?
I'll try it again. Maybe I'll do a restore shook the way back to after I unlocked and rooted before flashing and see what happens.

So I restored back to stock and cleared/reset everything but still unlocked and reinstalled.
Out got stuck on the dual core boot loader over and over. Pulled the battery and restored again.
What it looked like was happening when I installed was an update and not a full rom? I downloaded the files you had posted, was it the right one at 7:00am this morning est?

can you release a version with stock kernel? i dont need to overclock, just want a stable deodexed custom rom... thanks!
Boot up success but I am using AURA ROM developer Diviance's updater-script. I must ask his permission to release!
BTW I try to reboot the phone to see if the widgets missing. Honestly, No problem with BlurHome launcher
The widget problem seems to occur at a random time. It took a few days worth of rebooting to happen to me on homebase. After it happened the only permanent fix was to revert to stock kernel.

Get the overcome kernel in .tar format, flash it via odin. You should get a recovery mode.
Or find a CWM in the dev section flashable from odin or heimdell.

I love you man. seriously. Your effort is really really really appreciated. I can't express it in words. Thanks a lot man, you're a legend!
So will this definitely fix my problem? So, flashing the kernel should also give me the recovery right? so from there, I press volume up and power, and will that give me the overcome recovery?
then do i just restore my overcome backup, and reboot, will everything be wokring as it should?
Thanks a lot once again man, you have really saved my pants, I feared the worse for my tab!
Btw, when I was on overcome, I never managed to nandroid restore.
Not bootloop, just the result force closes. And I had to wipe data and restore from TB.
Edit: kernel download fine from here.
Have you heard of the anonymouse site?
Sometimes you can use that to proxy.

Thanks! But once I have the Overcome recovery back, will my overcome backup restore? Will that work and be possible?
So once i flash the kernel, can i access the recovery by volume up and power? Can you confirm this please mate? Cause at the moment, pressing it does nothing, but i guess it is because i have no recovery installed, am i right?
cheers

Ok. try this.
If you were in overcome ROM, if you are on the SAMSUNG bootloop and get into download, you should get into recovery by flashing the overcome kernel.
if not we'll try something else.

Funny that you asked. I just bookmarked Priyana's ICS install instruction.
There is no official ICS for our tab and will never be. There is a value-pack update coming, a gingerbread with some ICS taste.
However, there are several unofficial ICS roms around. CM9 and AOKP-SGT7 being the most stable ones (although many people still have small problems with some stabilities and inconcistancies). am on AOKP myself - for the past 3 months - and happy with it.
For AOKP install instruction, refer to this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=27500461&postcount=5
you are halfway done through installing AOKP, btw.

Woo hoo, brilliant, I might try to install later on when I'm familiar with overcome.
Having said that, overcome was working brilliantly for me, but this morning, my device rebooted 3 time! After that I got random force closes, and now the apps won't load.
Is this due to the kernel being undervolted? Which app can I use to overvolt? SetCPU only seems to let me undervolt, not overvolt... Any suggestions mate?

Probably more like factory reset wipe needed.. if not worse, the problem priyana told you about earlier. On how restoring from an overcome back up may give you force closes on apps.

It was funny that not many people mentioned it in Overcome.
I think it is the CWM in Overcome Kernel that is the problem.
You can try RedPill 2.0.1 kernel.
In my experience the battery drain was better than Overcome, it works with Overcome ROM.
But I think it could be the nandroid backup that is the issue, meaning Redpill recovery likely won't help with backup that was taken using Overcome recovery.

Stock firmware is the original samsung firmwares not edited not rooted not tweaked nothing
ROM could be many thing TW is like samsung based firmware but has a few extra touches like rooting some tweaks and apps that requires root stuff like that
And another kind is on CyanogenMod this sort of roms offers speed more smoothnes and lot better performance than touchwiz but still with it you cant use s-pen features like on the stock and some other bugs
And there are AOKP they are similiar in looks like CyanogenMod but with a really masive customizations available in there

you can try wiping /system /preload /data /cache /dalvik cache and flash the stock rom again or you can try custom roms of your choice after reading from here. (dont ask which is the best, just read reviews, watch youtube videos and decide for yourself)
Edit: you can flash philz kernel first from here first and then do all the wipes:

Look, you're having problems with the stock ROM, after the update. Now u have some choices,
1)Going back to ICS using sammobile and ODIN.
2)Flashing the PhilZ kernel using the link given by treacherous_hawk and then doing those wipes and again install JB using ODIN, like you did earlier. yes it'll wipe all the data so better back up the phone on PC before doing the wipes.
3) Use custom ROMs. You can read about the custom ROMs in the Android development forum, there are methods to root with the CWM recovery and then how to install custom ROMs.

Yesterday I had flashing philz kernel XXLT6 and then did rooted with rootsuperuser file (install at cwm).
And now when turn on phone, opening 'galaxy note n7000' show with caution sign, that sign was never shown before. Is it safe for my note? Was it true behave?
What should i have to do? with right step actually. What first, what then, what last.

you got the yellow exclamation mark because you used the .tar file for philz kernel. if you use the .zip file and flash it from stock recovery you automatically get root and no yellow triangle. You can remove the yellow triangle using the "triangle away" app from play store( paid version, if you consider donating) or search for free version on XDA. use that to get rid of yellow triangle.
That is the yellow triangle you've got. Don't worry mate. It's just a symbol, if u wanna get rid of it, go to the Android development forum here and there will be a thread for how to remove yellow triangle, read that. The sign is nothing to be worried about. Now you have rooted, you can flash the various custom ROMs and be extremely carefull to follow the instructions in the ROM thread before you flash.
Hmm okay guys.
So um, what should i have to do first? Wiping data and then install new stock rom or reinstall kernel firstly or what?
I was read in android dev.thread and got nothing exactly the same with my problems. I need some right step to doing stuff (philz kernel, wipe data, update new stock), so that nothing bad will happen to note.

if you are not on safe kernel, you should install safe kernel first like philz (which i guess you already did) boot into recovery mode and do all the wipes (if you do not want to save any data). put the phone in download mode connect to computer, open pc odin, click pda select the stock rom from save location and click start. Once finished put the philz kernel on ext sd card (the one corresponding to your stock rom) and go to stock recovery and install zip from ext card and select the philz kernel .zip file and you should be good to go.

If the contacts are in phone memory they would get deleted.. If you go to mounts/storage and choose the last option mount usb while connected to computer and delete everything on internal memory (not on external sd) you will be able to clear up usb storage space too but then you will lose what's app data (example)..

[Q] Strange issues on stock firmwares

Ok so I had gt-s5830 for a year and a half and flashed lots of roms, but a few months ago it started doing some strange things that never happened before (all of these are on STOCK ROM, I faced it with DDKQ6 and XWKTM because I usually use these two but I bet it would do that on every firmware because it never did it before):
- when deodexing with adb permissions in /system/app always set to rw-rw-rw- instead of rw-r--r-- and it makes possible to adb-push and use system app without rebooting but it never did it before (both kq6-ktm)
- when flashing cf-root 3.7 b84 by ketut everything is fine (except for the next issue of the list), then if I try battery extender (based on cf-root b83 that also cause me this issue) it changes su command's permissions (as it says titanium backup) to wrong ones, and even if I fix them it will causes problems like soft brick if I use mobile odin and slow restore from titanium (never happened before) (both kq6-ktm)
- still on cf-root/battery extender, sometimes wifi turns on but just don't receive any data, and when it does, mobile data will not turn on anymore and offline mode gets stuck, it sometimes gets solved with a reboot but not everytime (both kq6-ktm)
- some init.d script just don't work, like on dta2sd that says to me that I need to do an a2sd repair, then swap and zipaligning at boot don't work (kq6-ktm) or even project silk and similars
- when I try to flash slaid's gpu rendering patch my phone just don't make it to reach even bootanimation and I need to reflash the whole firmware
these are the main problems I'm getting that never happened before... is it normal so I can do something to fix it or my phone just need to be changed because is getting old?

dear friend:
i didnt read all the issues ,because they are a lot , so if facing all this , simply stop using stock , specially for our ace there are so many smooth roms like merge rom and nitrogen and cm10.1 modded by mardon , plus there are many perfect scripts to make your phone smooth like hell ,hope that i helped

The problem is the stock rom itself & not your phone. When you root your stock using upd_1.zip & you flash an alternative kernel to support init.d scripts, the root begins to act weird. All I can say is, root on stock is unstable for changes. You can either keep complete stock or you can just flash a custom rom. Or if you root the stock, you'll have to keep changes within the limits.

I've already tried lots of custom roms but stock has better battery life and lots of useful stuff for me so I'd rather stay on stock if I can find a solution.. Thanks btw

So do you mean I should root it with kernel itself to avoid problems? And could I change kernel after that or is it dangerous?
Also: with custom roms based on stock with battery extender kernel I'm getting the Titanium Backup error... What?
Thanks a lot

he means that if you root your stock ,you better not flash a kernel, it will cause some problems, and for titanium backup, before backing up or restore apps , enable andorid debugging in settings to avoid errors

But I always keep it enabled lol the error is about wrong permissions on su command
And if I flash it when I haven't rooted it yet?

EDIT: And if I don't flash kernels on stock rooted rom will roms like touchwiz 5 by Nathan still give me wrong su permissions error like it does now?

Well I just tried two scenarios:
After all cwm wipes
Flashed stock ddkq6 and just rooted it without kernels then deodexed and again wrong permissions in /system/app
Same with xwktm
Flashed stock ddkq6 only changed kernel and after deodex same thing again
It may be not a problem but all the issues on my first post start with wrong permissions in system...

Try a different root explorer. I'm saying this because I sometimes have strange issues with ES file explorer. Also as far as I know, su doesn't integrate well into the stock ROMs. Try freeing up some space in system by deleting some bloatware. Try using SD maid pro. Finally, try a fix permissions via recovery. Probably this might solve your problem.

[Q] Cronmod on Jellybean

Hey guys,
I tried to flash the Cronmod script on the latest Paranoid Android rom from OldDroid. First I flashed a patched servicr.jar, then
I mounted /data and /sdext, flashed the script and then formated /sdext.. but it doesn't work.
Can someone tell me what I did wrong there? Or is Cronmod not working on Android 4+?

I think mounting /system is enough because the script'll be placed in /system/etc/init.d folder
problem

I know but we need to mount /system to push the script file into /system/etc/init.d folder as I told you
Anyway we can add a command line in the flashble zip file to do it automatically

Okay I tried it again but it still doesn't work..
I flashed Paranoid Android, then I flashed the patched service.jar from you directly. After that I wiped cache and dalvic cache and rebooted.
After the first reboot I went into recovery and mounted /system and /data then I flashed the script and formated /sdext.
I don't know what I've done wrong there.. Maybe I flashed the service.jar not correctly?

:weird:
Try mounting /sd-ext and formating it when the installation
If it doesn't work, extract the script file from .zip file and put it into init.d manually and set the correct permissons, finally reboot your phone, it should work too

Hmm I tried it now on another rom (ICS) and now it's working, but with some weird bugs. When I long press the on/off button (I mean the one in the right side) only the word 'shutdown' appears.. Usually there should be more than this one word (There should be buttons for silence mode, vibration mode,...)
Plus there isn't a lockscreen anymore.. weird

i would recommend you CronMod-INT2EXT+ not v2 or v2+ just what i am telling use this and reply me
PLEASE HIT THANKS IT WONT HURT
The bug is nothin but the conflict between diff scripts. If we use the necessary n specific scripts SGA ll be good rather than flashin evry script available.

yes you may be right that the rom may not support it
I red some time ago that someone posted a modified version of cronmod in order to make it work on android 4+. You can use the kernel patcher by (I don't remember his name now, sorry) that wipe the rom on the ext4 partition. Good luck Peace!
