[Bugs][Debugging]ICS 4.0.3 official beta - Xperia Arc Android Development

I'm not responsible, If I Brick Your device. btw I'm not gonna Brick it !!!!
Bug
1. Lag (menu, animations)
2. Battery Issue
3. Offline Charging not working
as far as I know those are the main bugs.
Debug1. Go to Settings --> Developer Option --> Window animation scale & Transition animation scale --> "set .5x"This Reduce lags 98% 2.1 Go to Settings --> Developer Option --> Background Process Limits --> set "No background Process"
2.2 check ur build.prop, if there is a line 'persist.rildenabled' delete that lineThis makes phone to be in deep sleep and increases the battery life3. If u use cwm, probably it is clashing wit offline charging? Solution download the below chargemon and owerite in system/bin, please note you will loose ur cwm recovery.Note : If you listen to music, make sure to stop it from apps.

Great post. It really helps with the lag and battery.

If you need anything it' there in my ROM

Takes quite a while to charge, but left mine unplugged overnight(accidentally)with WiFi/3g off and absolutely NO drain.

Changing "Limit background processes" to anything else than default helps with overall smoothness - but I don't recommend setting it to "no background processes" (2-3 is the best in my case). Phone should go into deep sleep regardless of this setting.
Cheers,
z

Mine charges. Off line / and 0% drain loving it ,just to many copy and paste roms no need for 5/6 roms all the same

my phone never saves when i change background processes - it will always go back to standard after a reboot. is that because im using arconium ICS or because i have v6 supercharger set up?

Plus, you technically have an iPhone!

I have been suffering from the battery drain issue thanks to Android OS never sleeping. I installed the ICS beta using the autoflash.bat file which, as well as enabling wi-fi and BT also included the following in build.prop:
persist.rildenabled=1
So I removed this line as it's not required. At the same time I also uninstalled LiveWare Manager which I'd installed soon after installing the beta.
Now my battery life is a lot better, Android OS seems to be sleeping (my phone has been on 3 hours and Android OS has only been awake for 20m). After 3 hours I'm still on 96%.
So either a) the build.prop change matters, b) LiveWare Manager sucks on ICS or c) my phone has settled down of it's own accord.

[Q] Random 100% CPU usage

Sometimes when the wifi is turned on, my phone slows down and then I launch OS Monitor and it shows the System process is at 100% CPU usage, and when I turn the wifi off and on it works fine. I solved it by turning off an on the wifi. Then the cpu usage was normal for a long while.
But if it is 100% all the time you should check in OS Monitor what is running on 100% and kill it if it is a user application. If it is a system process, then you should probably wait until it has finished its work.

flash any kernel that supports custom charge values, discharge until 0%, then charge up to 5% and unplug the cable, set the max ac current at 350, leave it charging up to 100% (it will last much longer than a normal charge) and overcharge at least mid hour more, then try to see any difference. Also if you dont need 3G / HSDPA connections disable it and use GSM only, you will get much more battery doing this. Disable entropy seeder apps / services and any other unnecesary service, another advice: Use 1 or 2 max messaging clients, having more than 2 will cause more battery wasted.
If you need your phone charged always fast use the default charger value, but if you need more battery charge it slowly, (350~400)
you know your phone doesnt charge to 100% percent it only simulates this to you, becaus you would be unhappy if it whould show 95% at the end of the charging cicle. so it shows 100% and after a short while it shows the correct values ... maybe 10-15 min. i think this is ordinary behaviour to prevent battery from fast degeneration.

I am not sure, but I think option for that need to be embended in kernel. That you can change it. I do not know if it works, better ask Varun when he is here.
For this who have battery drain problem, download from gp 'Deep Sleep Battery Saver'. This app turn off deep sleep when screen is of, and wake up phone to sync once per hour. Fot me its make much better. Now i have 99% of battery for about 3h!!
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...ration&feature=nav_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDNd
use this...
well here are a few things that i do to save battery
Firstly use xxlpz baseband instead of xxlq4. Basebands also affect the battery life. (Baseband helps to provide all the network functions).
basebands are inter compatible, so you can use xxlpz baseband over a Rom based on xxlq4
Secondly, I use stock xxlpz odexed firmware. Deodexed rom is used by the modders to theme the framework.
Otherwise an odexed rom is slightly faster than Deodexed rom. Moreover deodexed rom will use the data partition to write it's .dex files which reduces the data partition a little...
I don't use any modded rom. If you see the modded Roms, most of them have superficial changes, not from source. A little change in the framework, a few init.d scripts and some extra apps. You can always change your framework on your own by decompiling the framework-res.apk and systemui.apk.
If you don't know how to then use UOT kitchen. ( I am not opposing anybody. please don't take it personally)
Use a custom kernel. I use cocore 4.4. For me battery is really good using it. I have made an init.d script. If you use cocore 4.4 then put the script in /system/etc/init.d and set permission 0777 and reboot. Also set the governor to ondemandq.
After installing cocore, drain your battery untill it switches off on it's own. Then put your phone in download mode (that is on the screen where it warns us not to flash custom rom) and leave the phone untill it discarges the battery fully.
Now charge you phone till it reaches 100%. overcharge it for half an hour.
After this reboot into recovery and flash Shaaan clockworkmod. Goto advanced setting and eipe battery stats and reboot.
If you are not a hardcore gamer then Switch on powersaver in setting which would limit cpu to 800 mhz, lower the brightness. You will still be able to play, light games like temple run, granny smith, cut the rope etc without any lags.
You can buy anf install ram manager pro for better ram management.
You can also disable a few samsung apps.
Go to settings> manage applications.
Select an app which you don't use and disable it.
I disabled swype, accu weather, chaton yahoo services and few more which run in the background and I dont use. Disabling would freeze the applications, which you can also do with titanium backup.
I use nova launcher which uses less ram and is smooth... Never lock apps in memory.
My settings are minimal, ie I keep vibration and haptic feedback switched off.
I don't use 3g so I keep the network to Gsm only. But I am 24*7 day and night connected to WiFi.
So I use easy battery saver and set it to intelligent mode...
I play a few games mentioned above, lots of WiFi for surfing the web and calls. My screen is always turned on literally. But I manage 1.5 days of battery life.
Well yeah that's it..
Init.d script download-- www .dropbox.com/s/ib6jrshnymzyhag/00power

Thanks, very detailed explanation! I will try everything you said

[Q] How can I tell what's eating my battery?

About a week ago, I started noticing that my phone battery gets very hot and the battery drains quickly when the phone is NOT in use (Screen off, sitting on my desk). Full charge to 0% in 4 four hours or so, without being stressed.
When I try to charge it from the supplied wall charger, it doesn't get past 87% charged before the battery temp creeps into the 40s and it starts draining (while still plugged in).
I assume it's a faulty battery, only because I haven't downloaded anything new. The only change I made was updating Viber. I removed that app from my phone but it's still dropping like a fly.
I've done a factory reset twice, no change.
Rebooted the phone many times, no change.
Tried different cables and different chargers (PC, Old X10), no change.
Now, since I can't replace the battery in this phone, I'm hoping there's a software method to see what might be eating the battery.
Note : My LT30a .195 can't be rooted, and the bootloader can't be unlocked. Also, I don't know how to take screenshots.
Anyone have an suggestions ??
In Settings-Battery you should be able to see what processes are using it.
If you want to monitor cpu load in real time, then you'll need some app, like OS Monitor to see load per process, or PowerTutor for logging cumulative consumption.
I bought this phone several days before. Yesterday got root, installed cwm recovery and installed jb 4.1.2 deoxed stock Rom. I noticed that my phone can't sleep. Totally! Take a look on screenshots. I thought that may be bcoz of some apps so I wiped everything (int and ext sdcard too), but it makes no sense

Turning off your auto sync when not needed should do the trick.
Something's wrong there. I've got too much battery consumption by Android System too, but that is ridiculous.
¿Have you tried BetterBatteryStats to see what's keeping it on?.

AudioOut_2 is related to any games or apps related to sound or which "produce" sound..are you on stock rom and stock kernel?
try to exit any music player app after listening or exit the game properly after playing..sometimes keystrock sound causes it..

And do check all the columns including partial wakelocks and try to find which process used more time or percentage...

Better Baterry Life ( Disable fast dormacy for SONY devices)

Thanks To @mirhl for this great tweak!
COMPLETELY DISABLE FAST DORMANCY ON XPERIAs
fast dormancy should be a battery-saving feature of UMTS networks.
Tested:
Acro S
Ion
S
T
TL
TX
V
Z1 Compact
ZR
!Your phone must be rooted to edit system files
Every recent phone support this specification. Some times it's a real battery saver!
But others it is not. If your carrier doesn't use this feature your mobile will never enter deep sleep
If you think your battery life is too short -and you suffer especially from "Android OS" wakelocks- then this could be for you
First of all, you'll need to know your carrier MCC and MNC. You can found these on wikipedia or in your APN configuration
Navigate and open ./etc/fast-dormancy/fd_custm_conf.txt
you'll see two lines ending with MCC and MNC and two zeros
Change those zeros with the code you look earlier and save
Reboot and enjoy
Battery can last up to 30% longer after applying this fix (admitted you had this problem before)
Thanks but this is for 4.4.3 too ? because I didnt founded etc/fast-dormancy/fd_custm_conf.txt

Ok. Manage to changed the fIle. Tq. After reboot the battery increase percentage increase a bit. Will monitor the deep sleep afterwards. Still dont understand what the related this changes with the battery life.
Thanks for the tweak.. I will monitor my ZR's battery life, then give a feedback in a day or two.
Thanks ! I will test it right now
Already used it for 2 week now. From my view no significant battery impact with this tweek. Battery life about same as before. Revert to default setting. Im from Malaysia use Maxis network.
Unfortunately, I couldn't feel any difference in the battery life.
Thanks again for your appreciated effort, and hope the tip could help others

Nope, this is a system file issue that is eating up the battery cause the cpu isn't sleeping well or something keeps running on stock.
And heating as well. I don't know why. Since this is 4.3 i don't know, have to wait for kitkat to move in next month and will see how things fare up.

Opinions about battery idle

Good Day XDA Friends!, I would like to take opinions from you guys to a feature that may exist without us knowing (not sure).
As this post indicates(https://android.stackexchange.com/q...tery-but-use-connected-power-to-run-the-phone) Redmi note 8 supports BATTERY IDLE CHARGING which means using the phone plugged and while using it, it uses the plug itself to sustain charge and not the battery itself. This may prolong the battery life by lessen the battery cycles like laptops that have conservative modes. With that I would like to gather some insight about this feature if it will have some problems with the battery especially when doing something that is intensive. Thanks for the reply!

I use ACCA Advanced charging controller app, there is an option within that to enable the OP mentioned feature. But of course, the Kernel has to support it, for it to work. But if your ROM does not support it, it is just a question of flashing a custom kernel.
ACCA can be downloaded from here or installed from the Magisk repo, although the Magisk repo version only has the Terminal to manage configuration changes.

It is a separate app that allows you to tinker with other charging techniques. For example you can specify a cooldown rate when the battery is getting to hot, it allows you to use Battery idle providing the kernel supports it, plus more. The app is called Advanced Charging Control App AccA for short there is also a Magisk module in the repository for ACC but that is all command line. But it you install the app it does install that module as the app is just the GUI for the module.

Yes I would advise to disable any smart charging that's built into the ROM.
The developers do mention to check out the battery university link before using it. But the app does have its own profiles built in which can be accessed on the middle button, generally the the default profile is good enouth.
I could share my own personal settings but they definitely wouldn't be ideal for everyone, especially since I manually limited the charging current to 800ma. Which would mean it would take longer to charge the battery to the charge limit.

what kind of issues? no one has ever reported any issues regarding battery idle mode in supported devices, at least i never encountered it both here and in telegram group
probably issues will arise if the charger and cable is not compatible
im using it intensely these days, playing mmorpg while multi tasking watching youtube or browsing
what i notice is phone's temperature actually does not as hot when using the battery and if you afraid if the power might be too high you could just adjust it using acca module although it was unnecessary
you could just try, do at your own risk
for me having phone running like laptop is really useful
