I hate Blur, like im sure a lot of people do, is it possible to get the stock AOSP apks to work as default?
It's possible.
How I would do it, rather than freezing or removing the standard text & messaging applications, is also install a launcher, something like ADW launcher.
Then you can remove all links to the standard services and put shortcuts in the places for the standard apk's.
You 'shouldn't' damage your system by installing the standard APK's, but I would do a back up of your system first, by installing safestrap.

I REALLY like Launcher Pro (don't care about the extra home screens or the preview function, but I love the four shortcuts at the bottom to phone, contacts, messaging and browser - why Android just leaves that space empty and unfillable I shall never know, total waste of screen space). I know I can set is as my default Home app - but then the stock Home app is still there and no doubt resident in memory and using some of that memory up. Is there anyway of actually replacing the stock Home app with Launcher Pro so the stock Home app has been deleted?
To be clear, I am not talking about going into Application Settings and clicking Reset Defaults on the stock Home app, so Launcher Pro always launches, I am talking about actually removing the stock Home app altogether and replacing it with Launcher Pro....obviously I am already rooted and have ADB access.
Is this only possible if someone cooks up a ROM with the stock Home app replaced?
I think alot of things get messed up if you just remove the default launcher from a SenseUI ROM.
Maybe use it on a vanilla ROM instead pal?
oopsie, I should have mentioned, I am already using a vanilla 2.1 ROM (VanillaDroid) it is extra specially AWESOME by the way (comes with overclocking so it just screams along (as does the CPU no doubt!!)).
So, I am assuming it would be less trouble if I did try to remove stock home, since it is vanilla.
Yeh I assume it would be a much simpler process if your using a Vanilla ROM.

I can't imagine that you will free up very much space by removing it. sounds like alot of hassle for little award.
I should have been clearer. By space, I meant resident memory - i.e. I am assuming the stock Home app runs in the background and Launcher Pro runs alongside it. I am imagining Android's memory management would never kill the stock Home app, so it ends up sucking memory away from other apps....
I'm not a dev but i've removed Home without any problems.
Do a nandroid backup first!
Install Launcher Pro. Then
Code:
adb remount
adb shell
rm /system/app/Launcher.*
reboot
Do you notice more memory (as in available memory for running apps - not storage) after doing this?
I don't monitor memory usage. But I tend to remove ALL apps I don't use (and can be removed without problems). The lighter the better for me. Give it a shot
i did this without any issue i removed launcher.apk and launcher.odex
renamed the new launcher to Launcher.apk
pushed to /system/app (not /data/app)
remove any old launcher files from /data/app/
install new launcher.apk in /system/app
worked out great not a single issue so far
can switch to either launcher all on the fly and long as you leave default unchecked

Rosie isnt tied into the phone.apk and the mms.apk.. So if you remove it and you set in LP that they both go to those apps then it should work just fine.
i think use titanium back up to delete stock home, before delete please install launcher pro
I do this all the time, because everytime i update from a nightlie the build reinstalls the launcher. After several times of doing it i've found root explorer to be the easieast way to go :
1 Go to /system/app and delete the laucher
2 go to /data/app long press the launcher you wish to copy select move then go to /system/app and paste it's as simple as that (you can even bookmark the folders for future use let's say you wanna replace the music app the sms app etc etc )
You may also use titanium to do it or mannualy trough adb.
Performance wise i use adw ex and i notice better screen response faster rendering and less laggy it is worth doing it
If you wanna try increase performance you may want to try this cmd through terminal cmd
su
echo ro.HOME_APP_ADJ=1 >> /data/local.prop
reboot

So I got two D3's for my parents and they don't care for any of the social apps at all nor Blockbuster or anything else. How do I get rid of these?

Well, you have a few options, but only one actually get's the bloatware out of your hair.
You can root the phone and freeze all of the apps they don't want to show up (see the list of safe-to-freeze apps in the Development section of this forum). That approach provides the benefit of keeping those unwanted apps from running in the background, using up resources. Under the circumstances, though, it might not be a good idea to root your parent's phone if they aren't tech savvy, 'cause they might break it (and, of course, there's that whole voided warranty thing).
You can use the App Groups feature in the stock D3 app drawer. Just create an App Group (call it "Favorites" or something) and add only the apps that your parent wants to see. This is a simple method of getting all the bloatware out of your face. The downside, though, is that, every time you install a new app, you will have to remember to add it to your "Favorites" App Group or you won't see it in the App Drawer by default (you'd have to switch over to "All Apps" or "Downloaded Apps"). Also, this doesn't do anything to keep the bloatware from doing stuff in the background. Option #1 is the only way to do that.
Use a third party Home Launcher. I don't know which ones do and don't have this feature, but Launcher Pro has the ability of adding apps to a "Hide" list for the App Drawer. This way, you can pick all of the bloatware that you don't want to see in the App Drawer. Compared to Option #2, this approach is better because, once you've built your "Hide" list, you don't have to do anything else. There is no need to add newly-installed apps to a group so that they can be seen or anything. The downside (or upside, depending on your perspective) is that you will have completely changed the look/feel of the Home Launcher from the Moto Stock Launcher. Personally, I prefer the look and functionality of Launcher Pro, but some may like the Launcher that Moto put on this phone from the factory.

I rooted it and ran the remove bloatware script. Seemed to do the trick. Much faster. Now my old lady wants me to de-bloat hers. I manually rooted the d3 (the day it was posted), but they have the one click root now.

My question is how deeply integrated are the stock apps such as Dialer/Messaging/Calender/Blur launcher ?
I'd like to download 3rd party ones such as go sms and custom dialer/contact apps and uninstall the stock ones.
will any of these cause continuous force closes or a soft brick?

Go ahead and install the new ones. Just dont uninstall the old ones. Once you set the new apps as the default you will never have to see the blur ones again. But yes it will probably cause issues to uninstall them. Besides, why? There really is no point to uninstalling the default ones.
If you really don't want to see the stock apps, you could try freezing them through Titanium Backup. If something goes wrong, you can unfreeze them.
Freezing an app this way does the same thing as uninstalling it (removes it from your app list/drawer and stops the system from reading it, basically hiding it from the system behind TTB's walls) but allows you to bring it back with ease.
I haven't seen, yet, a list of what I can safely remove from the stock version of this phone. Obviously, its rooted and I am using RomToolbox Pro for software removal/freezing. I have removed the t-mobile crap and some of the other basics like calculator, calendar, some google stuff but what else can I get rid of without causing my phone to need to be reflashed or worse, trashed? I want to go as lite as possible and I like to replace things with better 3rd party apps as I did with the calculator, calendar and alarm thus far.

Even Better, there's a flashable zip that doesn't just have lists, it can remove the apps for you.

So i just successfully rooted my device with SuperSu and I'm looking to delete some bloatware, I've read good things about Titanium so i thought i'd give it a go. I'm mainly just removing all the stuff i don't use on this Tab to speed it up as all im doing with it is playing Mobile Legends and browsing, I've noticed that after removing app's their icon is still viewable in the draw but when i click on it nothing happens.. Does this mean that the app has been successfully removed and i just need to hide the icon?
I was also wondering would i be able to delete TouchWiz if im using another launcher (NOVA Launcher) or will it bug out?

I generally freeze things in Titanium initially. Then, if no problems crop up after a reasonable time, I'll go back in an uninstall. If problems *do* crop up, I can thaw the app with (hopefully) no harm done.
That said, I've left TouchWiz alone since it is tied fairly tightly to the whole OS (and yes, I do use Nova).
