Hi - anyone have app recommendations for pdf viewing? specifically pdfs relating to scanned hardcopy documents? I downloaded repligo but it can't seem to open these sort of pdfs!

I'm usually reading graphics heavt pdf documents (rpg games you can get in online stores like rpgnow) and been using foit on winMo. But now i'm migrating to android I need to know about an app that will handle those.
I don't want to spend my money for app I wont use.
P.S sorry for offtopic - is there any comic book reader on android that reads cbr and cbz files?
The HTC pdf reader can handle these files.
There is also a beta in the market -- BEAMREADER, it seems to work also, but it is very SLOW.
There is a office and pdf viewing program ripped from one of the new Archos tablets running Android called Thinkfree Mobile that does it all. You should be able to find it somewhere in the forums.
What's a good app for reading PDF books? I'm just using Adobe reader right now and wanted to see if there are any better ones for the NC.
EDIT: Was just snooping around the other forums and noticed that the Aldiko that came with the Galaxy S has pinch to zoom. The versions on the market do not! When trying to install the one included on the Galaxy S, I receive "application can not be installed"
Any chance someone could port the Galaxy S version over to the NC? it would be a great epub/pdf reader app.

You might try ezpdf reader from unidocs, which is in the market. See also their twitter page of features at http://twitter.com/#!/ezpdf
Repligo appears to be the best for me. ezpdf feels unrefined and buggy. The interface looks really nice though.
Im using the built in app on the nook. Dnt open your pdf from Library because it forces you to use quickpdf. If you open the pdf from something like astro or root explorer,there's an app called Reader, and im loving it.

I prefer ezpdf and think it is good and worth the 99ct and I like the following with it:
+ remembers the last page read/bookmarking +
+ Zoom option - Fitting to text column
I agree that the user interface is not perfect yet and in some areas a bit buggy.

I tried that already, but it doesnt allow me to zoom.
Does anyone have an app that will allow me to highlight and annotate pdfs? I am considering returning the nc if I can't get this feature. I am rooted and willing to even pay a few dollars for an excellent PDF reader which will allow me to annotate and highlight.

I thought i saw on one the market when i was searching "PDF" or "PDF reader"
There should be an app for highlighting, but not sure about annotating.
I tried out various PDF readers trying to find something workable to read some Marvel comics I have that came from GIT Corp DVDs. The Android readers worked ok, but it took 7-10 seconds to go from page to page accessing them from my SD card. I finally went to remoting in to my Windows desktop (using PocketCloud free) and using the Adobe Reader on the PC to read them. It ended up being much faster !
Weird. Repligo takes like 1-2seconds to flip the page. This is with 75-130mb pdf's
I'm going to try clearing the defaults for the "Library" app (via Nook Color Tools / Settings) and see if launching a PDF after that presents a menu rather forcing "QuickPDF".
Perhaps the class of the SD card in use might be to blame for the perfomance lag while page turning?

Maybe it's that these comics consist of 2-page color images. Maybe it's because I have the files on the SD card... the Duracell card I have tests out as Class 4. Anyway... none of the PDF readers (including RepliGo, Adobe Reader and ezPDF) I've tested gave reasonable performance paging through these files.
ezpdf seems the fastest, but simple question, how do you bring up the overlay interface again once it disappears? I couldn't seem to bring it up all the time.

Wow, thanks for the tip. I liked the way Reader handles my huge company manuals.
I have root explorer and it took some looking to find my documents folder and I can't imagine doing that every time I need to reference my manuals. Is there a way to "assign" this Reader to open pdf files instead of Quickoffice?
Or would I be be better off with something like Dropbox.apk?

Astro can create a shortcut on your launcher screen directly to any specific folder. This might work for you if you keep all your manuals in one place. The folder still gets opened in Astro, but at least you don't have to navigate around to find it every time.

The newest version of RepliGo Reader (3.0) has the ability to highlight and annotate PDFs. It works reasonably well.
I love ezpdf, blazing fast, frequently updated, cost a pittance.

this one took me a bit to figure out, but I second this. It acts just like any book in the reader instead of having to re-size and down swipe to change pages.

I hate how the new repligo reader doesn't retain zoom levels when you flip pages. Other than that its pretty good.
What is the default pdf reader in the nook?
What other pdf readers has others installed?
I heard the adobe pdf reader for android was actually a very nice app. The color nook is my first dive into the android tablet scene, so I wasn't sure how to check and see what app the nook was already using before I began my search for the perfect android pdf reader.

i've been using RepliGo, which i like.. but i am going to switch over to Aldiko when 2.0 comes out with PDF support.
I've tried the default one, the official adobe app, and Repligo.. none of them work very well on my nc. All seem very sluggish and navigate poorly. I've taken to converting pdfs to epubs and using fbreader instead.

To answer the original question, the default reader is a stripped-down version of QuickPDF. I've installed Documents to Go and use that reader.
Is Adobe Reader too obvious to mention here? I think it is the fastest and smoothest PDF reader out there, I find it excellent on the Nook, much better than any other option I've tried.
In landscape mode, if you set it to view full-screen, you can easily drag scroll up and down on the page, and then just tap left or right to turn pages -- fast, simple, literally works perfect for reading. The only drawback is to change reading modes you need SoftKeys or something to press the MENU button since the taskbar is hidden.
But... adobe doesn't save progress and there is no bookmark option
downloaded and installed the adobe reader from the app store today (first install - Yay!).
and found the application so much snappier than the built in NC pdf reader.
I will look into the other suggestions, but given simple birthing pains so far (just have to get use to the interface), I am very impressed so far.
ezpdfreader is the best I've tried. The "Reader" app that's built into the NC works very well (has bookmarking, reflow, etc...) but doesn't do landscape mode, and you can only get to it by using a file manager (otherwise, the file opens in QuickOffice lite).
The only thing I don't like about ezpdf is that it won't do continuous paging. I want to be able to drag my way through the book.
I'm using ezpdf now. When I open a PDF it shows the page flow at the bottom which I can flick to fly through pages.
I like this one better than repligo now, btw

What can I use that does save my place? Or do I just need to convert my pdf's?

Wow what can i say now: i have installed both adobe and ezpdf on the bc now. Loving them both. Just have to get use to them.. so much better than the stock bn pdf reader. Thanks everyone for the suggestions, and the one for tapatalk to access the forums here. It truly makes the bc what i got it for: to read my tech books and manuals a pleasurable experience.

So I just recently discovered the real beauty of E-books and the awesome capability of the Xoom in this activity. My question is what are the settings everyone's using to convert their PDF's into E-book format in Calibre? I'm pretty lost in a lot of the settings and all of my PDF's loose their colorful pictures and such when I convert them.. I'm also playing with Aldiko, Kindle, and Nook for viewing my books.. Whats everyone else's preference?
I just have mine set to generic e-ink and then I just convert any pdf to epub and it works great. I have not made any changes to any of the settings. If you have played around with your settings then just revert them back to default and try it again.
The problem I am having is that I have a few magazines that were scanned into PDFs. If I use QuickOffice to view the pdf the font is small, but very crisp and clear. The only issue I have with this option is that I can not save where I left off reading and the page turning is not as smooth. I do not care about the fancy page transitions, although Google Books does look nice. I would like just a simple button to advance pages. With QuickOffice you have to drag the page and it does not snap to the next page.
I tried using Calibre and then reading in Aldiko or using Adobe Reader and the fonts do not render nearly as crisp as using QuickOffice. Does anyone have some suggestions?
These magazines have plenty of color pictures so I do not want to loose those either.

For large PDF files (like magazines for example) I have found that converting them to epub format is a waste because it lags when you open it using any of the book readers. You can use Adobe/Quickoffice/Documents to Go but like you mentioned, the only downside is that you cannot create a bookmark so you always have to find your way back to where you left off. If you do convert the files how ever to epub and they are not too big then I found that the problem is that most scanned magazines just do not appear right since you may have 2 magazine pages scanned to one pdf page, images distort how the text looks or where it is located, etc. Another solution is use a comic viewer to read the magazines but this takes too long to create sometimes but it is much better than using a book reader since coming viewers handle large file sizes very well.
My problem is that the PDF's I convert to Ebooks lose all their formating. There is not seperation between lines anymore, the text is all one size, page breaks get deleted, so on and so forth.. They look terrible.. I wonder what type of PDFs everyone else is converting with so much success..
I know that there are many reviews for popular ebook reader apps for android (a couple of which are even preinstalled on the stock rom), but i wanted to see how the sgt7 community liked the speed and UI of them specifically on this hardware due to having strange size and resolution comparatively to android tablets (usually 10.1" at 1024x800) or phones which are typically <4.3" at much lower resolutions.
I have a pretty large ebook collection that is a combination of pdf and epub files so i don't really care about downloading books from a market so the services that come with nook, kindle, Kohorn, and Google books apps don't really do anything for me, although ive read that they are also capable readers that can still store and use epub files well so i won't discount them if they are well liked for this application.
Tl;Dr: what's the best ebook reader application for the sgt7 that can open and read epub and preferably PDF files with speed, style, and ease? Id also like text highlighting, bookmarking, and resuming the last open page when opening a book as well as a "collection of book covers and titles" view rather than having to use a filesystem browser if possible. - in the end, something like ibooks for android only faster preferably.

You can try Aldiko Premium edition... it is very nice book reader with support from pdf as well epub with additional features like highlight, dictonary and bookmark.
I tried so many PDF readers and I think Repligo reader was the best one for my needs. works in landscape/portrait. Makes ebook easy to read, saves where you left off, it's very fast compared to most and there are some editing options if needed.

I really like Kobo, but the "Night View" option doesn't work properly on my Tab. The screen goes black, the headline red but the text doesn't appear at all.
I also have fond memories of the Moon+ Reader on my phone but after I started using Kobo on that, I uninstalled Moon+.
