Ice Cream Sandwich for Droid 4 is Here. A CM9 Kang, it is. - Motorola Droid 4

We know you were waiting for it, and now the wait is over. Ice Cream Sandwich Android 4.0 is here for your Motorola Droid 4 in the form of CM9/ICS for Droid 4 ROM, thanks to XDA developer Hashcode who has ported over CM9 to the Droid 4. It is a kang which basically means that the developer has taken the code from CM9 and made it compatible with the Droid 4, so it’s not an official Cyanogenmod release.
The ROM is a beta and a work in progress, so bugs and issues are to be expected, along with features and functions that may not work properly. So proceed with caution while trying out the ROM and make sure you know what you are doing.
Read on to find out how you can get Ice Cream Sandwich on your Droid 4.
Compatibility
This ROM and the guide below is compatible only and only with the Motorola Droid 4, model number XT894. It’s not compatible with any other device and may render an incompatible device unusable. Check your device model in Settings » About phone.
Warning!
The methods and procedures discussed here are considered risky and you should not attempt anything if you don’t know exactly what you are doing. If any damage occurs to you or your device, including a bricked, non-functional device, we won’t be held liable. You have been forewarned!
ROM Info
Developer → Hashcode
Known Issues:
Some people are having issues with Wi-Fi.
The CM9 built-in WiFi Tether won’t work. You need to use the “WiFi Tether” app that’s bundled into the ROM. Once you open it, hit [menu] and “Settings”. Select “Change Device-Profile” to “Motorola Droid RAZR (CDMA/LTE)”.
You can safely ignore the error about “sd-ext” when wiping Dalvik Cache in Safestrap.
Known issue w/ Bluetooth while it’s on but NOT connected to any devices, audio routing to the entire phone gets wacked and you won’t get any sound at all. Fix by turning off Bluetooth.
What’s Not Working:
Camera needs to be fixed. It should be working, but it errors out.
HW Video Codecs (in progress)
Bluetooth on but not connected = loss of all audio (in progress)
Pre-Installation Requirements
Important!! A Droid 4 with Safestrap recovery installed. Get Safestrap recovery from this guide → here.
This procedure will wipe all your apps, data and settings (but it will NOT touch your SD cards, so don’t worry about those). Backup your Apps and important data — bookmarks, contacts, SMS, APNs (internet settings), etc. This Android backup guide would help you.
Sufficiently charged battery, at least 50% is recommended.
How to Install CM9/ICS for Droid 4
Download the latest version of the ROM from the official development page.
Download the Google Apps package (this is required since the ROM itself doesn’t contain Google apps like Market, Talk, etc).
Download Link | Filename: gapps-ics-20120304-signed.zip
Transfer the two files downloaded in step 1 and 2 to the root of your external sdcard on the phone.
Turn off phone and boot into recovery. To do this, turn on phone, then press the Menu button on the splash screen that shows up to enter recovery. In recovery, use Volume keys to scroll up and down and power key to select an option.
[Optional] Perform a Nandroid Backup of your existing ROM, so that you can always restore it from recovery if something does not work out with this ROM. To perform a backup, select Backup and Restore » On the next screen, select Backup again.
Once in recovery, perform a wipe:
Select “wipe data/factory reset”, then select “Yes” on next screen to confirm. Wait a while till the data wipe is complete.
Select “wipe cache“ then select “Yes” on next screen to confirm.
Go back to the main menu, select “advanced”, and then Wipe Dalvik Cache » Yes – Wipe Dalvik. Then go back to the main recovery menu.
Now select “install zip from sdcard”, then select “choose zip from sdcard”. Scroll to the ROM file on the sdcard and select it.
Confirm installation by selecting “Yes — Install *your_rom_name*.zip” on the next screen. The ROM will now start installing.
After the ROM finishes installing, select “go back” to go back to the main recovery menu.
Now repeat step 7, but this time select the Google apps package file gapps-ics-20120304-signed.zip to install the Google apps package.
After the installation is complete, select “go back” then select “reboot system now” to reboot the phone.
IMPORTANT! If you are coming from a Gingerbread based ROM, after you set up your Google account, make sure you DO NOT let it restore your apps and settings. Uncheck the Restore option when you are asked whether you want Google to restore your apps and settings.
Special Note about 4G/3G Data
The data on this ROM is a bit finicky. When you reboot, you will probably need to go to: Settings -> Wireless & networks -> More .. -> Mobile networks. Click on “Network Mode” and goto GSM-only, wait for 5 seconds, and then back to LTE/CDMA. This should help data come up.
Your Droid 4 is now running Ice Cream Sandwich Android 4.0.3 with CM9/ICS for Droid 4. Visit the original development page for more info and to get the latest updates on the ROM. Share your thoughts on the ROM in the comments.

Sweeet! Can't wait to try this. Thanks Hashcode!

Thanks Hashcode
Hashcode is the man! The Droid 4 has been out <30 days (Feb 10th 2012) and we already have an ICS ROM.
Thanks Hashcode!

Sorry if I do not mention every problem in this thread, for there is a lot that can go wrong! If there are any further questions, please feel free to ask. Also, I am not responsible if anything goes wrong, obviously you have a choice to install this ROM. Finally, I am not a dev, I wish I was though. If I have crossed some boundaries, please let me know, I'm sorry this is my first major post. So help me, to help you!
Here is how to install and also get 3G working, don't complain, I tried.
If there are any questions, again, ask.
First, get this ODIN one click, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731989 , thank you DG, you are a stud. Download the latest Nightly ,http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?device=captivatemtd , (I used 181). Grab the attached update.zip as well, this will be your CWM, to access it, use the 3 button method to get to recovery (press volume up and down, plus the power. release the power button when you see the ATT logo). Lastly, download Alpha 6, along with the Enable 3g zip and the superuser zip. Put nightly 181, the Alpha 6.zip, superuser.zip, update.zip, and the Enable 3g. zip on your sdcard.
Basic Outline of what needs to be done for original Alpha 6:
Download all the .zip's and the odin. Install drivers, and open up the ODIN.
Put the 4 zip's (Nightly 181, Alpha 6, Enable 3g, and update) on the root of your SDcard.
Open ODIN, and enter download mode on your phone. Connect your phone to your computer.
Press start on ODIN, and let it work.
Once the phone reboots, enter recovery mode. Choose reintsall packages, or install update.zip, whichever is there.
The phone will come back to that same recovery, choose reinstall packages or install update.zip again.
Choose install zip from SDcard, then choose zip form SDcard, and pick the cm7 nightly 181. Let that install.
Once CM7 is intalled, go back to recovery. Choose install zip from SDcard, then choose zip from sdcard, and install Alpha 6. You may have to repeat this step.
Go back into recovery, select install zip from SDcard, choose zip form SDcard, install the superuser.zip. Reboot the phone.
Once booted, log into you Google account, and download Script Manager.
Press the Menu soft key, System Settings, More..., Mobile Networks, Access Point Names, Menu soft key, New APN, Select Name and enter ATT WAP, then select APN and enter wap.cingular, Menu soft key and select save.
Reboot into recovery, install zip from SDcard, choose zip from SDcard, select the Enable 3g.zip, install.
Reboot the phone, open Script Manager.
Select the folder ".." twice (it should be the top folder), your now at the root folder, select etc, then init.d, select 99enable3g. Make sure "Run as root", "Run at boot", and "Run on net.change" are selected. Press save.
Reboot and it should work! Questions? Concerns? Let me know!
Basic Outline of what needs to be done for the Alpha 6 with Hardware Acceleration:
This is optional, but I went back to stock. You need the JF6 like before as well as the update.zip and the Alpha 6HW2D.zip on the SDcard.
Flash back to stock.*
Once finished going back to stock, go into recovery and reinstall packages. Let it reboot and select reinstall packages again.
First, do delete all user data and cache. It works.
Select install zip from SDcard, then choose zip from SDcard.
Select Alpha 6HW2D.zip. Let it complete. Then go back into recovery and repeat. It must be flashed twice.
TADA! let it boot and you should be good to go!
I will be adding more to this, but it will take some time. Thank you.

Thank you for the links! I might need help with those instructions, Ill try to look them up. Ill add more to this later, Im gonna be busy for the next couple hours with some house work. Ill be adding the video and clean up the OP. with CM7, ill see how that goes, I just added that in there cause thats how i did it. Ill see if theres a better way. thank you very much for your help!
Just to ask the question - why is the JF6 with bootloaders necessary? Is the current state of the ICS port not compatible with GB bootloaders? Or is it just to have CWM available for flashing?
I'm just asking because if it's just a matter of being on a stock scenario, it would be safer to come from a non-bootloader stock package.
Combined patch:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19596674&postcount=2081
I also did not go from CM7.
Went from KK2 rom --> recovery, clear data, flash ROM -> recovery, clear data, flash ROM --> flash ROM (just for good measure, since I was in endless boot animation) --> flash superuser zip and enable3gv2 zip --> scriptmanager, set script settings --> reboot
Good to go with 3g working. other fixes can be applied too. I think the above package contains all of them.

You can go with the GB bootloaders, I guess its personal preference. And I did it as a precaution. I like going back to COMPLETE stock to make sure I start from scratch.

I dont think it is, I like to make sure I have a known good baseline for testing, so I almost always go to JF6 and MC when I install ROM's like this
Here - I've whipped up a pack with all the fixes (and directions) except the A6 file (as that's pretty big). Enjoy.
SMS Issues
If you're having problems sending SMS:
Open Dialer *#*#4636#*#*

Press refresh next to smsc and see if the number is 07913121139418f0
If it isn't, input that number and hit Update
Reboot

FYI, Running A6 with the Cappy kernel. I'm testing the battery now, and hit 100% last night before bed, unplugged, and overnight, dropped to 43%. Limited use since 9am PST, now down to 16%. Something interesting, Screen use is 45%, Phone Idle 20%, Android OS 9%
Device not going to sleep?

Rumor has it that onecosmic is going to release A7 soon. I'll hold on to A6 until then and reflash then. See if that changes anything
I'm getting 65% in deep sleep and 20% in 100mhz...
Sent from ICS captivate. Be jello.
Captivate install instruction for A6
So we start off, of course we need some files & requirements:
Make sure you have a WiFi connection available
The ROM itself: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18877954&postcount=1
SuperUser fix: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=776518&d=1320787022
3G: fix http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=790072&d=1321869485
Voicesearch fix: http://forum.xda-developers.com/atta...0&d=1321887896
Calendar Fix: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=790037&d=1321868087
I put all of them in a folder called ICS, you name it whatever you want
First of all we need to make sure you do not have simlock enabled.
To disable:
1. Go to settings
2. Go to the security tab
3. Click on sim card lock, and disable it.
You do NOT have to be on any particular ROM to install ICS. I prefer to start from JF6 and Master Clear.
If you are on a custom ROM:
Make sure to disable any lagfix if you have one enabled
Copy folder with your downloads onto your devices SD
If you want to make a backup of your current ROM, now would be the time to do that
Once that is done, power off, and just for safety sake, I remove my Ext SD and SIM
Now we need to wipe the phone.
1. In the recovery menu select “wipe data/factory reset”
2. Go ahead and go to the “advanced” option
3. In there select “wipe Dalvik Cache”
4. Go back to the menu you were before.
5. In the recovery menu navigate to “install zip from sdcard” and press your selection key
6. Now choose the option “choose zip from sdcard”
7. Navigate to the ICS Folder
8. Select the ROM
9. Now navigate to the option “Yes – ROM NAME HERE”
It will now flash the rom.
Once this is done, go back and install the ROM one more time
Once we have done this, go ahead and hit the “reboot system now” option.
Wait for the phone to boot, if it does not go past the boot screen after a few min, pop out the battery, re-install the battery, re-boot into recovery and start at step #1 again
Reboot in recovery.
1. In the recovery menu navigate to “install zip from sdcard” and press your selection key
2. Now choose the option “choose zip from sdcard”
3. Navigate to the ICS folder
4. In there select “Superuser-3.0.6-efgh-signed.zip”
5. Now navigate to the option “Yes – install Superuser-3.0.6-efgh-signed.zip”
Once it’s done, “reboot system now”
Once you’ve restarted. You’ll need to install script manager. For this you must have a WiFi connection, the device will not have a data connection yet. Open up the market and search in for “script manager”, and download & install Script Manager FREE.
When it’s done installing, we are going to add YOUR APN.
1. Open the settings app
2. Click on “more…”
3. Now press “Mobile networks”
4. Then click “Access Point Names”
5. And hit the menu button, then press “new APN”
For AT&T, I have been successful with:
Name: ATT
APN: wap.cingular
Proxy: Not Set
Port: Not Set
Username: Not Set
Password: Not Set
Server: Not Set
MMSC: Not Set
MMS Proxy: Not Set
MMS Port: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
Authentication Type: Not Set
APN Type: Not Set
When you have put these in, hit menu and save
Reboot into Recovery:
1. Navigate to “install zip from sdcard” and press your selection key
2. Now choose the option “choose zip from sdcard”
3. Navigate to the ICS folder
4. Select “enable3gv2.zip”
5. Now navigate to the option “Yes – install enable3gv2.zip”
When it’s done flashing hit the “reboot system now” option.
Thank you to WarDrake in the i9000 threads who simplified this fix. I’m using his instructions and all credits go to him
1. Open script manager and go navigate to : /etc/init.d
2. In here select the script named 99enable3g and open it as a script
3. Now select run as root, run at boot, run on network change (DO NOT RUN IT)
4. Hit the “save” button.
5. Exit script manager
Reboot into Recovery:
1. In the recovery menu navigate to “install zip from sdcard” and press your selection key
2. Now choose the option “choose zip from sdcard”
3. Navigate to the ICS folder
4. Select “ICS_VoiceSearchFix.zip”
5. Now navigate to the option “Yes – install ICS_VoiceSearchFix.zip”
1. Select “choose zip from sdcard”
3. Navigate to the ICS folder
4. Select “CalendarFix.zip”
5. Now navigate to the option “Yes – install CalendarFix.zip”
Reboot, and you should be running ICS.
If you cannot send SMS(Thanks to Thanks Twicebak3d)
Open Dialer *#*#4636#*#*
Click: phone info
Press refresh next to smsc and see if the number is 07913121139418f0
If it isn't, input that number and hit Update

[STOCK ROM] MotoBlur 6.13.215 for Safestrap (SAFE MODE)

* WARNING: WE DO NOT HAVE A FASTBOOT TO FIX YOUR PHONE SHOULD YOU BOOTLOOP AND BE UNABLE TO ENTER RECOVERY **
** YOU INSTALL AND USE THIS SOFTWARE AT YOUR OWN RISK **
Want to freeze some bloatware or make changes to your System but are nervous because we don't have a fastboot restore?
Interested in a stock ROM to safely deodex and test?
Safestrap *MAY* be the answer you're looking for. Read more about it here:
http://hash-of-codes.blogspot.com/p/how-to-safestrap_24.html
Here is a link to a *SAFESTRAP ONLY* Stock ROM for the Droid 4: 6.13.215:
http://bit.ly/y6FEjv
md5sum: c19d09fe0db646a8916985c1e672eee5
Install this in Safestrap after ENABLING Safe Mode, and as long as you keep it enabled while running your phone, if you make a mistake by freezing too much or if you're deodexing and hit a bootloop, you won't be screwed.
Because Safe Mode is enabled, you should be able to get back into recovery to restore a backup or reflash this ROM so that you can boot back up.
What it contains:
- MotoBlur for Droid 4 (6.13.215)
- A few of the obvious bloatware have been removed: Netflix, NFL TV, Slacker Radio, etc.
- Pre-rooted with Superuser
To Install:
1. Be rooted
2. Install the APK for Droid 4 Safestrap found here (BE SURE YOU'RE GETTING THE DROID 4 VERSION):
http://hash-of-codes.blogspot.com/p/android-downloads_24.html
3. Once installed open up the application and use "Install Recovery"
4. Make sure you have this .zip on your SD card
5. Reboot the phone and enter Safestrap Recovery by pressing the [menu] button while the Safestrap boot screen is displayed
6. - MAKE A FULL BACKUP OF YOUR NON-SAFE SYSTEM FOR DISASTER RECOVERY BY CHOOSING (FUNCTIONS SIMILAR TO CWRecovery)
- Controls in recovery are: scroll up = volume up button, scroll down = volume down button, select = power button
- Scroll down and select "backup and restore"
- in the "Nandroid" menu choose "Backup"
- Optionally include webtop in the backup (probably want a 1 for the full backup)
- Confirm
This will take a while ... so be patient.
- Once that's done you can use the [back] soft key on the front of the phone or scroll down to "+++++Go Back+++++" and use that to go back to the main menu
7. Now that we made a full backup, we can turn on Safe System, scroll down to "safe boot menu" and select
8. Select "Toggle Safe System"
This will also take a few moments while your main /data was stashed away.
9. Now that we have Safe System "Currently: ENABLED" (should see this at the top of the screen), we can flash a ROM
10. Make sure you're on the main menu, and scroll to "install zip from sdcard" and select
11. select "choose zip from sdcard"
12. choose whether you have the file on your internal or external SD card
13. now using the scroll and select buttons, navigate to your .zip file and select it
13. confirm that you want to install the ROM.
This will take another little bit.
Now exit Safestrap by going back to the main menu and select "reboot system now".
The phone should reboot right back into your 2nd version of the Stock MotoBlur system.
Enjoy.
Reserved for future use
Thank you thank you thank you!!! I almost gave up on the D4!! wooooOOOOOoooo
Hash,
I can flash this with no problem, but just like everything else i try to flash when safe mode is enabled, it hangs on the off black screen after booting. Any other ways I can try this?
**Edit** Got it working. I was actually trying to deodex a few files and add afew touches to your base, so I guess I did not recompile it correctly. Gonna try again.

Keep at it, we'll need deodexed files.
Also, I updated the ROM tonight. I had left some cheesecake files in which were pointing users to a motoblur-dev OTA server.
Please re-download when you can, so we don't distribute a deodexed ROM with that info in it.
Does anybody have a .219 safestrap ROM?
[edit]
Never mind. I just tar'd over the .219 files from /system onto /preinstall, to overwrite my "safe" install.
I've attached the list of files the 219 update replaced. To use it:
Install the 215 ROM into your safe system, then toggle back to Unsafe mode.
Then in a root shell:
Code:
cd /system; tar cf - `cat 219.txt` | (cd /preinstall; tar xf - )
Then when you toggle back to your Safe system it will be running the identical 219 software as your original system.

[SAFESTRAP ROM] Stock MotoBlur 6.13.215 for Droid 4

Here is a version of the Droid 4 Stock MotoBlur in ROM format.
** This is for SAFESTRAP ONLY **

Want to remove the bloatware?
Trying to create a deodex /system?
Just wanna feel more comfortable making changes to your /system?
This ROM is usable in Safestrap as the 2nd-system so that recovery should always be available should something go wrong.

Information about Safestrap here:

Safestrap is similar in behaviour to ClockworkMod Recovery. With the exception that you only flash .zip files to your 2nd-System which is "safe" as it protects your way into recovery should anything go badly.
What's in the ROM:
- Stock MotoBlur for Droid 4
- Rooted w/ Superuser
- Some of the obvious bloatware removed: Netflix, Slacker Radio, NFL Moblie, etc
- Nothing else has been changed
Basic Steps for applying this ROM:
- Install Safestrap from here:
http://hash-of-codes...wnloads_24.html (MAKE SURE YOU GET DROID 4 VERSION)
- Once installed use the "Install Recovery" button inside the app
- Reboot the phone and enter Safestrap Recovery by pressing the [menu] button when the Safestrap Boot Screen is shown
- MAKE SURE YOU DO A FULL BACKUP BEFORE TURNING ON SAFE SYSTEM
- Enable "Safe System" using the "safe boot menu" -> "Toggle Safe System" (once complete you should see: "Currently: ENABLED" at the top of the screen).
- Now you can select "install zip from sdcard" and follow the prompts.
Controls for Safestrap are:
- Volume Down or the MENU button will scroll down
- Volume Up or the HOME button will scroll up
- Power button or the SEARCH button will select
- BACK button will go back 1 menu
PLEASE BE SAFE AND USE COMMON SENSE
Enjoy.

A Step By Step Comprehensive Guide to Rooting & Flashing the AT&T Note 3

I have seen a few step by step guides on here to rooting and flashing a new rom for other phones, but nothing for the AT&T Note 3. Learning how to do all the different steps and where to find the files I needed took more leg work than I felt it needs to. Doing all that took several hours, where as the process of flashing the new rom/doing all of the below steps only took me about a half hour!
Therefore, I put together this step by step guide so that others in the same situation as me would have one thread that includes all the information they need. I'm hoping this is able to save atleast one person a few hours of time they could spend doing something more fun.
None of this work is mine. All of these programs and any of the instructions below were put together by others and this guide is entirely the product of other people's hardwork. All I did was copy and paste them all into one thread.
Step A: Skip this step if you are on a Kit Kat rom 4.4 etc. AT&T already autoupdates the Note 3’s to KitKat months ago so you are 99.9% most likely already on KitKat and can skip this step
If you’re NOT on KitKat (4.4.2) then you need to follow these instructions to get to KitKat http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2712039
Step B: Root the*Android Device
This can all be done on the phone itself.
1. Go to Settings > Security > and check Unknown Sources ON to allow us to install third-party apps.
2. On your phone, head to*http://towelroot.com.
3. Tap on the Lambda (the big red letter looking icon in the middle of the site).
4. Save the tr.apk file to your device.
5. Pull down the notification shade by pulling down from the top of the device.
6. Tap on the Download Complete notification.
7. Tap Install.
8. Pull down the notification shade by pulling down from the top of the device.
9. Tap on Installation Complete to open the app.
10. Tap on the Make it Ra1n button and wait for it to do its thing.
11. You should get a success notice, that’s it, you’re rooted.
Step C: Install SuperSU
To stop unauthorized apps from using the new found root access, we’ll install SuperSU.
1. Go to the Play Store on your device.
2. Search for SuperSU.
3. Tap on the one by Chainfire and install it.
4. Once done, tap the Open button.
5. Allow it to update it’s binaries and anything else it prompts you to do.
Step D: Test Root Access
1. Go to the Play Store on your device.
2. Search for Root Checker.
3. Tap on the result and install it.
4.*Once done, tap the Open button.
5. Tap Run and make sure it says you are rooted.
Step E: Download the custom rom to your phone’s microsd card
You can do this on the phone it self. You can download any Custom KitKat rom that is designed for the AT&T Note 3. There’s several to choose from. Some people like Alliance Rom found here… http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2778933
But the most popular and IMO best rom is Dynamic Kat 6.1.3. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2709701) You can download Dynamic Kat 6.1.3 here…
http://www.dynamicrom.com/index.php/downloads/viewcategory/31-dynamic-kat
Make sure that you download Version 6.1 (6.1.3) as this is the last stable release of the ROM and everything past this version has bugs.
You should also download the GPETheme 6.1 for the Dynamic Kat 6.1.3 custom rom (it makes it look identical to stock Android.) You can download it here…
http://www.dynamicrom.com/index.php/downloads/viewcategory/42-google-play-edition-gpe
Step F: Download SafeStrap 3.75-B03 onto your phone’s microsd card
You can download Safestrap from here…
http://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/?id=1481#downloads
You should also download Gapps (Google Apps) onto your microsd card from here…
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=15800
Don’t forget to move everything you downloaded above using your phone’s internet browser, from the default location (downloads folder) over the the microsd by using a file browser like “My Files” to move all these files to the microsd card.
Then install the app Busybox from the Google Play Store and install this app (SafeStrap 3.75 won’t work if Busybox is not installed)
Step G: Install the Custom Rom onto your phone using Safestrap 3.75-B03
1. There is a step by step picture guide on how to do this at this website…
http://galaxynote3root.com/galaxy-n...-custom-rom-using-safestrap-on-galaxy-note-3/
This ROM requires you to use Stock ROM Slot, otherwise it will not boot!
And that's it. You should now be rooted, flashed and good to go.
Did you run into any problems or have any questions? Refer to the Q&A from the Dynamic Kat 6.1.3 Developers below to find the solution.
Q. What is a clean flash?
A. Clean flash is as follows....
Boot to ss
Hit wipe
Slide to factory reset
Back out
Hit install
Find zip
Slide to install
This deletes everything except data. You will have to set the phone up again. All your pics and sounds and downloads are safe and will be there when you return.
Super clean install is as follows....
Boot to ss
Hit wipe
Hit advanced
Check all boxes except sdcard
Swipe to clean
Back out
Hit install
Find zip
Slide to flash
Reboot.
This will wipe everything on the phone, all pics, sounds, settings, everything will be gone, except the contents of the sdcard.
Q. What is a dirty flash?
A. Dirty flash is as follows...
Boot to ss
Hit install
Find zip file
Slide to flash
Reboot.
This deletes absolutely nothing, no wipe needed.
Q.What happens when I wipe data?
A.While in Safestrap if you select the "Wipe" button, you will then be taken to a screen with three options. Here is an attempt to somewhat clarify those options.
1. Swipe to Factory Reset - This is the most common way of wiping, and what is most commonly used for installing a new ROM. This option is considered a "Clean Flash".
2. Advanced Wipe - This option is used to specify partitions to wipe. It is generally okay to select all options here EXCEPT "Micro SDcard". This can also be used when doing a "Clean Flash".
3. Format Data - DO NOT USE the "Format Data" button. If you select it by accident you are going to be required to type the word "yes" to even proceed further. You have been hereby WARNED. If you refuse to heed this warning there is a good chance you will soft brick your phone.
Q. Can I flash to a slot?
A. Yes, you sure can. Expect bugs or issues, expect the reboot option in the power menu to NOT work.
Q. How do I flash a theme?
A. Flash the rom, then flash either S5 theme or GPE theme. You then can flash a color option for the GPE theme.
Q. How to I go back to stock?
A. Dirty flash the rom. (see above)
Q. Somethings are acting strange, is there a easy fix?
A. Boot to SS (safestrap) hit wipe, now hit advanced and check the cache and delvic cache box's ONLY! slide to wipe, reboot system.
Q. My signal is weak, is it the rom?
A. I highly doubt that, it's related to the modem and some are better than others depending where you are. Check out other Modems here
Q. Where can I find the add-on'?
A. In the DK store. Hit menu/system settings/device then DK rom control.
Q. My battery life isn't very good, how can I find what's going on?
A. Download "wakelock detector" and "better battery stats". Then if you are still confused, take a screenshot and post it.
Q.What is that Bar on the top of my Status Bar?
A.That is the Miui Battery Bar, this can be altered or turned off in DK Rom Control under Status Bar Mods/Miui Battery Bar.
Q.Why do I have 2 batteries?
A.After first boot, You need to pick one to disable in Rom Control.
Q. How do I make my status bar transparent?
A. Go to the Rom Control and then tap status bar mods. Go down and tap "Status Bar Gradients." Now there should be 2 color options, just tap a color, then tap the box on the bottom right because that is the transparent. Do the same for the second color.
7. Additional Optional Customizations for the Rom

Thanks for this. I have been hesitant to root due to the IEMI issues, risk of being deleted if i recall (that could have been on my note 2 i don't remember).
I would like to try, but being lollipop could be pretty close i might hold off.
Primarily wanted to say nice guide.

Want to use 1537's hotspot on other networks SOLVED

This thread did it for me~!
EDIT: Please skip to post #3
I've been reading tons of threads here and am overwhelmed. I rely on my phone's data and hotspot at home as I don't have internet service at home.
So I would like to accomplish two things:
1. Be able to use the phone's hotspot. It's an unlocked At&t 1537 but the hotpost function still won't work on other networks
2. Delete all the crap-ware
I've been reading through a lot of threads and it seems possible, but is easier said than done. I understand that I have to flash my phone and install another ROM/Firmware.
Is there an up-to-date step by step guide on how to accomplish this?
I know all the information is spread out everywhere here in this site. But I'm nervous to try to piece them together myself and break my phone.
Any help would be massively appreciated!
To show I've put already put in some effort, I've already downloaded Odin on my computer.
Phone is currently at 4.4.2
I've taken another crack at it and explored the rooting option and manipulating some apk and odex files in /system/app and still no luck.
I've found this thread! It says it will enable native tethering. Woohoo! Now I just need some help breaking down the steps a bit more

**You can begin the following process from 4.4.x Build/ROM or higher but you must already have Root Access**
**Required** FlashFire - Play BETA - PREVIEW
**Caution!** The following process is only for the I537 AT&T S4 "Active" variant. Use on any other device may result in a hardbrick!
Download:
- I537_OC7_Stock_Rooted_ROM
- I537_OC7_Stock_Rooted_Deodexed_ROM
Pevious Builds:
- I537_OC6_Stock_Rooted_ROM
- I537_OC6_Stock_DeOdexed_ROM
Set your screen timeout setting to 10 mins before beginning!
1. Place the ROM onto your device (use either internal or ext-sdcard).
2. Open the FlashFire app and "Agree" to the Terms and Conditions.
3. Press "(+)" twice to bring up the "Actions" menu.
4. Select "Flash Zip or OTA" and locate and select the ROM. Leave "Auto-mount" unchecked under the "Options" menu and press the checkmark to continue.
5. From the main menu Uncheck all options under "EverRoot" and set "Reboot" setting to "Download."
6. Press the lightning bolt then "Ok" to begin the flash.
7. Once the flash is complete and the device reboots into "Download" mode, flash the I537_OC7_Bootloader using Odin's PDA/AP slot.
The screen will turn black then display the contents of your system before beginning the flash. FlashFire will pause for about 1 minute while flashing the "system" partition. Once complete your device will reboot and pause on the AT&T splash screen for 1 - 2 minutes (15 - 20mins for DeOdexed version) before completely rebooting. Done!
Tip: for blazing fast speed turn off animations from Developer Options and reboot!
Known Issues:
- None!
Optional - Enable Native Tethering:
- I537_OC7_TetherAddOn
- I537_OC6_TetherAddOn (Flash using FF's "Flash zip or ota" option.
Notes:
1. The above process will not affect your Knox Warranty Flag.
2. The process will update your Modem, Non-hlos, System, Kernel, and Stock Recovery.
3. No need to wipe prior to flashing! The ROM will automatically perform a factory data reset.
4. To learn more about FlashFire's capabilities on locked bootloader devices see here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=60070810&postcount=2

I've put my questions in parentheses. Please answer and elaborate. Thank you thank you in advance! I'm asking these questions now in case I get caught up in the middle everything happening
Flashfire - installed on my phone
I537_OC7_Stock_Rooted_ROM - downloading
1. Place the ROM onto your device (downloading into my phone; into downloads folder)
(this is down in the flashfire app, right?)
5. From the main menu Uncheck all options under "EverRoot" and set "Reboot" setting to "Download." (still flashfire app?)
6. Press the lightning bolt then "Ok" to begin the flash.
7. Once the flash is complete and the device reboots into "Download" mode, flash the I537_OC7_Bootloader using Odin's PDA/AP slot. (quite lost here, I'm guessing, when the above steps are completed the phone will go into download mode, then I'll need to connect the phone to my computer and use Odin.
Tip: for blazing fast speed turn off animations from Developer Options and reboot! (when and where would I do this?)
Optional - Enable Native Tethering:
- I537_OC7_TetherAddOn (when would I do this? also in Odin?)
