I think there is hope for you guys. I once had the same problem with my sgs2 and I searched everywhere... Until I found someone that send me a efs tar file... I told the guy it wouldn't work cause I tried everything... And I had to flash it with odin in the pda section... It totally solved the problem! I don't know where I found that guy but if you just search the net a bit longer, yoi could find it. Just search for efs tar file. It gives you another imei number so be carefull... It's forbidden in some countries...but yeah...
I also found some answers if I typed "baseband unknown galaxy note" in google. About somesort of tool...
Good luck!

Please, can I contact with you? I really need those files for fixing my phone...

You're original imei is specific to the phone and registered with Samsung and the network. If it's corrupted and you have no backup, there is no one who can restore it except samsung. You can create a new imei, but it's illegal and of no use at all. Don't get ripped off by people claiming they can restore your original imei, it's just not possible.

Have you tried flashing a 3 file gb firmware in odin? That always worked for me in the sgs1 days, if it does work get that efs folder backed up immediately

Read the post before yours. It's not possible to do it because of the unique IMEI. If you do not have your old one (written on a sticker inside your device) then there will be not solution.

[Help] IMEI lost after 2.3.4 flash !

Hi all,
New owner of a nice Galaxy Ace, i tried yesterday to flash the ROM from stock Froyo to Gingerbread 2.3.4 using Odin 4.38 and SAM dedicated firmware.
All has worked fine... except that when i reboot my phone with SIM card, it is not recognized ! In fact, checking IMEI (*#06#), i have discovered that my phone has lost its IMEI so it can be used anymore for phone services...
I have tried to explore file system (using Root Explorer with root privileges) but i haven't even found /efs folder nor nv_data.bin file on the ACE... Is this normal ? Did i erase the folder when i flashed the ROM (if yes, how ?) ?
Please help me before i send back my phone to my provider...
Regards,
Cedric.
Actually this is one of the things that people are not posting on their update guides, I too am having the same problem. Luckily my phone (which is just 3 days old) is going to be replaced from where I bought it. (I learned my lesson not to mess with my phone) lol! ) Though I hope someone could help with this issue.
Hi,
What is surprizing is the missing /efs folder and imei files on the file system, even .bak ones... and the fact that nobody seems able to explain it or to explain how it should be on the Ace. I wonder if people who have posted flash/root tutorials for the Ace have really proceeded it and if it is not a simple copy/paste from Galaxy S tutorials...
BTW, I brought my Ace this morning to my local provider, it will be sent to repair services. Mine is almost new too (6 days old) so i hope i won't have too many problems with guarantee...

I think most of them probably just copy pasted them tutorials from some other sites and takes credit for em. OH well, people nowadays. I just hope there will be a thorough tutorial/guides that will be posted by veterans/pro's about these stuff. (So we will be well guided).
Thats good, well it hasn't been a week for you. Well my case, it hasn't been 3 days yet thats why they are going to replace the phone.

Dont happen to u doesnt mean it wont happen to anyone else. Btw im also flashed my ace more than 10 times already, and never encounter lost imei problem. But reading this made me realize how critical this matter is. I know that imei on android supposedly were stored in efs folder, but on my ace i couldnt find that folder to backup. Weird...
So anyone can clarify this? Is it true that ace doesnt have efs folder? And if its indeed doesnt have that folder, where does our imei were stored instead?

That's a very good question ! Maybe if i had known where imei is stored, i would be able to restore it myself instead of send my phone back to support centre and
take the risk to pay cash for the repairing...

Don't judge the people from this forum, i have flashed as well with odin plenty of times, and encountered no problem. Flashing really takes risk, we may have similar phones but the situation in which we upgrade them sometimes is the key to the outcome, like what operating system you used, open line or operator locked phones, corrupted files, etc.
By far you were the first i saw that lost their IMEI after flashing. I'm not saying it would not happen again to others, this may be a bug on the upgrade process, but such rarity might be difficult to investigate, but taking the risk is part of the game, don't blame other's if you have failed.
Goodluck on your repair, and hope you have a successful upgrade next time.
I flash my ace couple times. Still have my IMEI.
But want to backup my IMEI, i cant find /efs folder on my ace.
Does anyone, have /efs folder on your ace ?

Ok but why ?... I agree with the fact i have encountered a special case which doesn't affect other people, but i won't do any further flash of my Ace without understanding what has happened.
I have strictly followed the tutorial step by step, using Odin and a multi-package KPE ROM from SAM firmware... i am not the first one who lose his imei on the Ace after a flash, i have found several similar cases on forums. Very strange...
Above all, how are managed EFS files on the ACE ? That's the question, and until now nobody knows or wants to tell it : weird isn't ? If i had known this, maybe i would have been able to restore IMEI myself, it's a very important point.

Is there a way to backup IMEI ?
Have you by chance tried to unlock the phone with the Galaxy Ace Unlock app available on the market ?

IMEI is readed from HARDWARE, not from SOFTWARE(SOME FOLDER OR FROM SOME FILE). If it was in folder or somewhere in FILE, then we can change our IMEI.
Its not SOFTWARE base number. Its HARDWARE BASED NUMBER.
YOU CANT CHANGE IT. You must change your hardware, to change your IMEI.
And back to problem: I think that software CANT read your hardware RIGHT or its not SHOWING to you your IMEI(somehow its the software problem).
If you flashing, FIRST be sure that you CLEAR CACHE AND RESET System settings(IF YOU WANT TO BE SURE THAT NOTHING CANT MESS YOU PHONE SOFT).
Maybe this can help too: REMOVE your SIM and SD, before you flashing your phone!

Not true. All that info is stored on an unmounted efs partition. Don't try to read, mount or dd that partition, as it's highly probable that it will get corrupted. Don't use unlocking app either.

Maybe you can read your IMEI from SOMEWHERE IN FOLDER OR....., but IMEI is read from HARDWARE, its not SOFTWARE BASE. If you want to change your IMEI(like SELL to other ppl phone, then you can sell it, but you CANT change your IMEI).If you phone get DAMAGED and you bring it back to SERVICE(they can change your MOTHERBOARD, LIKE IN PC AND YOU GET almost new phone. But IMEI is changed and your HARDWARE IS CHANGED TOO).
I know this by my self.
IMEI is NOT software NUMBER!

Hey!
Agree with you, but IMEI never WAS and NEVER BE software based number man. Still, just use google to find out. Like I sayed, if we all know where is IMEI code, we can CHANGE IT. But we CANT(IF YOU NOT CHANGE YOUR HARDWARE).
If you dont know, DONT link to our forum(I can use the SEARCH button[LOL]). USE INTERNET, like google!

can anyone tell me how to repair imei in Samsung SGH-I897
i dont know how it changed to 0049******* imei so plz help me out
Did you back up your EFS folder? If you did there is a simple fix, just inserting the efs folder back into the phone.
If you didn't, it will be more difficult. Search the forum. there are threads already out there that explain how to work on this.
If the method of the thread doesn't work you can send it out to Mobiletechvideos.com Josh can rebuild IMEI

[Q] nv_data.bin/IMEI/efs corrupt

Have any of you restored a Captivate's EFS folder with another phones file to fix network/IMEI problems? if so did it work?
I don't have a backup of the EFS folder (didn't know it even existed), did a factory reset (after a couple of months of having the stock 2.3.5 flashed) and suddenly I can't connect to my network provider (no phone calls/txt/3g).
I read different forums stating that I need to restore the nv_data.bin file to get the product code back (it's mostly ceros product code on 0188008 Not Active) and my IMEI is also screwed up.
I changed the product code and it apparently stayed changed, but the entirety of the file seems corrupt comparing to the videos of how to modify it and IMEI is still the fake one.
I would appreciate if I could get a backup of the EFS folder to modify to my phone if at all possible (I'm NOT on ATT nor in the US for that matter) sending it back for repairs is sadly not an option.
Trying to modify an existing file seems like my last shot to fixing my phone =( please help =D
U are out of luck, nvdata from other phones will not repair it there are only 2 option's
1. If u can find someone who can repair the NV_DATA.BIN
2. You can find a repair guy with the Z3X box.
Edit- OP if u want a fresh NV_DATA file just PM me ur email address i can mail u a copy.
I'm assuming you've tried the steps in this post?
Even if you don't have a functional EFS folder, just follow the steps as if you did. It might be worth a shot.
@jmtheiss I have question regarding the above procedure..
I tried the above with a corrupted nv file but the step mentioned in the thread aren't they are just for the product code ?
00188008|2e|34|00|00|00|00|ff|41|.4....A
00188010|54|54|00|00|00|00|53|47|TT....SG
00188018|48|2d|49|38|39|37|5a|4b|H-I897ZK
00188020|41|41|54|54|00|00|00|00|AATT....
If I'm reading the thread correctly, rebuilding the nv_data.bin file with the proper values should repopulate the /efs folder with the correct and necessary files.
It's possible this may run into a hiccup because you're not connecting to AT&T, but in theory, it should fix your problem.
Also, it appears that other people had good results by flashing to stock first, then trying this. It looks like the stock flash reset the IMEI, and then doing this fixed the product code issue.
Thanks for replying,
I treid every thing that i was able to find to repair the NV_DATA but apart from some links to XDA there is not enough knowledge how to repair it.
I tried every possible method to repair the imei, i have more the 25 backups of different NV_DATA files with me and over the time i had looked it to every possible file and treid to compare them with each other and they all look the same to me if we look into them with the help of a HEX editor.
I tried to change the files with 2 different phones and changing them with will give u imei code >004999010640000 but u cannot not repair it with anything.
I treid this with the phone with 2.1 update 1, 2.2 and 2.3.3 but what ever they will not work.
But after some research i found that the most of the guys who repairs the imei they use the Z3X/SPT for it and that is how i did it and its was recently some 6 days back.
I am still trying to find out how (if) you can manually repair the corrupted NV ?
You can contact connexion2005 in my sig. He does IMEI repairs for a fee. But it is worth it. he is a good person and doesn't cheat people out of money!
EDIT- Don't ask people for their EFS folders.... That is sorta really stupid.

I'm a recent customer and I was very pleased with his service. 1 week total and everything is back to normal. I have backed up this new EFS to MULTIPLE places.
sorry for the no reply, I contacted conexion, waiting for his reply.
I know asking for the efs folder is not bright, but it was my only and last shot. I triead all other threads and was able to change it to what they mention, add product code and everything magically gets fixed... but it saved the product code and the file and imei stayed pretty much the same, so I'm guessing that doesn't work =(
thanks for your replies all! appreciate the support

[Solved] Backup ModemFS (GT-I8190L)

Hi,
I recently got a mini s3 (i8190L) and, of course, loved the smartphone.
I did root the device, installed CWM and installed a Custom ROM compatible with my version, the Dmod v5.
My device does not recognize the baseband, it says "CP" and "CSC", despite the IMEI apparently be ok.
Baseband: XXXX
AP: I8190LUAMB1
CP: XXXX
CSC: I8190LZTOAMA1
Biuld Number: JZO54K.I8190LUBAMB1
Restored the default firmware (HOME_I8190LUBAMB1_I8190LZTOAMA1.tar.md5) several times between tests and nothing working.
I've tried sooo about it and keep looking, but this hard to find a solution.
Problem: I can not get on the 3G network and not use the internet service provider (Claro - Brazil).
Can anyone help me? Perhaps a simple backup who has the same device solves. Please, I'm desperate.
#EDIT------
Someone who has the I8190L, please put backup your modem.bin?

Hey,
search on xda ("baseband xxxx") , the answer is already out there
you need to reflash your modem and efs !
=> you will need root (including terminal) & the two backup img
then you will need to flash these

When I open the "CSC", it gives me no option to change.
I have root on the device, select the option and the option open, but still.
I tried to use the ROM Benz in v2 (which seemed to be a solution), but then started to not catch network and recognize the SIM out instead of giving "XXXX" in number, came to be "unknown".
Someone who has the GT-i8190L of Brazil, can, PLEASE backup the EFS for me?
Is there any other solution besides the backup?
#EDIT------
The problem is that I am new to Samsung and time to wipe I formatted the modem, this was my mistake.
Would like very much that someone postasse backup for me, ^ ^.

In the first post, the user asks to post only the i8190 and not the "L" or "N".
If I play these files on my machine, I run the risk of losing it or I risk it?
But in EFS the IMEI is stored or not ?

How so?
Are you saying that I if I use Enox, going back to work?
Enox AMD3 Revenge is not only for the GT-I8190?
#EDIT---------
Before doing all this ****, I did the CWM backup, but even giving wipe everything and restoring it, still not working.
The problem is more severe or the CWM backup does not back up the Modem / EFS?
I'm saying that I use the one from ENOX revenge Rom thread. But I don't know if you are looking for that file...

I do not know if backed up with CWM and copy the folder EFS ModemFS, but I'll wipe around the cell, restore the backup and backup again, but only the EFS and ModemFS.
If that does not work out, try to Enox. ^ ^
An hour has to go right, lol.
Friend, try no to screw your EFS partition..it contains the sim-lock infos and the IMEI as well as another sim-related settings, try to flash that modem, but DO NOT try with EFS.. it isn't the first time I see someone crying because they screwed their EFS partition and losing the sim-unlock.

Thanks for the warning.
Because, everything works normal, be called, sms, wifi, bluetooth, etc.. Only what does not work is the internet's operator, because when I'm in phone status, it says "Unknown" in "Mobile network type" and does not recognize the "Status" it.
Anyway, still in search of a possible solution or the backup (if I can) solve the problem.

I've tried sooo about it and keep looking, but this hard to find a solution.
Problem: I can not get on the 3G network and not use the internet service provider (Claro - Brazil).

Is your phone locked to Claro? If it is, then you're flashing the wrong FW.
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/1/?model=GT-I8190L&pcode=ZTA#firmware
You need a file named NV.DAT, it's missing from your /modemfs/PERM/PROT
Use this one.

He is unlocked by default here in Brazil, but even so, I've tried the Claro, Tim and Hi, besides the Clean ROM, but none of them worked. : (

Very useful guide bro Great :good:
The odin thing works for me, but if i install the rom, imei goes again. I downloaded hex editor. Took backup with galaxy toolbox. Copied the backup to pc. Opened it with hex editor. Typed 0x80000. Then surprisingly, my imei is already there. There is no need for me to type it. But when i save and restore, there is no imei again. What's going wrong?

Hi Hitesh,
Thanks for your reply in other thread and pointing me here.
As listed in my question, I have tried suggestion 1 - After flashing [ROM] TouchWiz-Resurrection V9.5 [08/03/2014] , which I lost IMEI. Then I flashed kernel
[DEV][KERNEL][2.6.35.7] ThunderKernel 2.2 [UPDATE 10/07/2014]
Still no IMEI.
Method 3, hex editor does not work. .save file in Galaxy backup already has correct IMEI but phone still does not show IMEI.
Is there any other Kernel you recommend? I tried Rafael kernal 2.6.35-7 also but this bricked the phone so had to remove it.
I solved my issue by flashing kernel again...see...

Thunder kernel wont boot with these rom so go for Rafael's.
I am setting up the Ace I of my niece. I came from the latest Italian stock ROM, after messing up with CM11 Aug 30 (which gets stuck at boot). So I re-flashed the stock ROM with ODIN, installed Raf kernel (w/o modules) and I lost the IMEI: Installed the modules still no IMEI. Now I just installed the Thunderbolt "stock" kernel and the IMEI reappeared.
It must be noticed that Galaxy Tool with Raf kernel did show the IMEI in both the UI "show device" option and in the EFS file (and so there was no way to edit it). It was just the kernel unable to read it.
I tried to edit IMEI for my Galaxy Note 3(Tmobile N900T).
The thing is , I back up the efs with EFS IMEI backup ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ma.wanam.efs&hl=en ). It generates img, tar or tar.gz file. I chose img to edit.... when I search 0x80000 in Hex workshop, that line has a different title 0007FFE9 and doesn't have the IMEI info, there are 00 and FF.......
So what should I do to find my IMEI?

I am on Galaxy S3 i9300 and see what you're seeing. My IMEI has changed somehow and I need to set it back to the original which is printed on the phone. Have tried every solution I can find without success. This seemed promising. Is there another offset we have to type?
I can't find imei inform in img file !

I had a official Rom 4.4.4 with my samsung korean phone before, i flashed a custom rom then my IMEI-Null, Basband-UNKNOWN, No network. So i try to make it back, i flashed so many patch files according to tutorials on internet. finally my phone bricked i think. i couldnt open even custom recovery. Samsung kies didnt help too, how ever i could open download mode, So i flashed latest korean offical Rom" E210SKSUKNI3_E210SSKTKNI3_E210SKSUKNI3_HOME.tar.md5" using odin. so again i could switch on my phone, then i found my shv-e210s IMEI has changed to new one.my phone back side imei is another one and its original imei. when i insert SIM it show" no service" and network "Unknown" , when i remove SIM it show " limited service" and i can make emgency call simple, and it show some local network providers names, its mean my phone get signals without SIM card and can make emergency calls. Can anyone suggest a method to solve this . if this imei changed by flash files, so it should able to change back to original by another file right?
