Looking for ROM - Galaxy Ace S5830 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm looking for a ROM that will be able to make battery life longest, and stable, not many new things.

Stay with stock then
Sent from your phone

Use either official stock or custom based on stock
if youre gonna stay with official stock use cf root, lagfree and turboboost
and delete useless system apps
U can find list here

Go flash 2.2.1 official rom through Odin......

I got the Ace with a version of 2.3.7 of cyagon and then I replaced it with with KPH of 2.3.4 so every time that I use factory reset it will go back to 2.3.4.
The problem is that in this version I dont have internet, only when I install ROM the internet is coming back.

AashROM is the rom ur looking for.

you can try the ace of spades rom based on cyanogen mod. the developer has made several tweaks to performance, speed and battery life.
go for the v1 release though, v2 is still a bit buggy atm.

Fla.sh 2.3 X
AOKP 4 LYF (possibly CM7 aswell)

May be stock roms are the best. I-ve tryed with several Cyanogen but.... all of them have general problems. Roms based on stock are better, but I have problem with flash on some sites or flashlight apps don't work with LED on the backside... So finding of good custom rom is too hard...

This room was updated today and has an awesome changelog.. If you want look http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1538245

I would agree...I am sure the current Gingerbread based ROMs are great, but they are based on leaked versions of beta ROMs. Unless you really know what you are doing or love the risks of the bleeding edge, I would stay away from them.
All signs are pointing to official Gingerbread firmware for the i9000 hitting Europe in the next two weeks. Once that is freely available, I figure the devs here will have fresh ROMS based on Samsung tested, properly released code out within hours/days...not so long to wait.
Check this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1011901
I just flashed this rom few days back and it's working like......knife goes on butter...
benefits:
1. It's 2.3.3
2. very smooth UI
3. longer battery life & lots more
Gingerbread launcher is not there but I installed one from market (check the one from Eugene373)....all together it's cool & I did not face any issues yet!!!
Flashed my few days old Froyo 2.2 with the 2.3.3 rom. So far, everything work without any problem.
Since there is now stable releases of gingerbread, are there any custom roms for it? i cant find any :/
Are there any kernels for gingerbread also?
You can try ColdMod Rom... its beautiful with TW 4.0 which works nicely with good battery life... i have no complains abt it and im using 2.1 improvent of ColdMod

I switched from Darky RC 5.3 to Juwes 4.2 cause Darky is little bit unstable for now. Juwe seems pretty fast and compatible.
I was using darky rom so far but now i want to try something new (darky is still on 2.3.3 which has the battery bug so i use 9.5).
So what 2.3.4 rom do you recommend? It doesnt have to be "blazing fast" , good battery life will suffice
Thank you.
How about Stock Gingerbread Roms?
Is there any rom stable and without bugs?
I use stock JVQ downloaded from samfirmwares with SpeedMod t23 and the auto brightness fix. All partitions converted to ext4 (/system too).
It is really responsive, no lags at all and I didnt find any bug (except the auto brightness but like I said there is a fix).
I also use tegrak to overclock it to 1.2 Ghz but thats optional, it is already really fast !!
confuse every rom has characteristic

im doing the ext 4 right now.. im not quite sure what it does, but ive read a lot of good things in it..

Which Gingerbread ROM is the best?

The title pretty much says it all. Which of the available Gingerbread ROM's is the best?
Or should I go back to Froyo and wait till Samsung releases the stable version of Gingerbread?
I'd personally just use a late froyo for now. Gingerbread for me hasn't had any real advantages honestly (and my phone kept crashing at the beginning when using navigation, but stopped now, and it crashed once when enabling wifi).
I am also staying with 2.2.1 until sources and a final version of 2.3.3 are released so that the geniuses here can do proper lag fixing and strap on the bells and whistles we have come to expect.
However, if you are into running the bleeding edge and don't mind a little less speed and few bugs or feature gaps compared with 2.2.1 roms, I would imagine all the Gingerbread ROMS are about the same with a few advantages and disadvantages to each. I know Simone101 does good work so you could maybe try his Simply Ginger ROM or take the stock rom from Doc's Kitchen for a spin.
Wait its still far to early for development on 2.3 to be at a full finished stage .
jje
I was using stock JV1, stock JVK, ultibread, darkys 2.3.3 RC3. I am very satisfied with gingerbread especially with browser speed

I have tried several of them. They have all advantages and disadvantages. Personally I prefer Darkyys ROM, but I cannot tell you an "objective" reason.

I have gone back to Froyo Stock (JS8) and will wait for an official Gingerbread (or a custom ROM based on official sources.)
P.S.: At least for today
Ok I am on Ultimates v8.2 atm. I might change to Simple Galaxy Gingerbread RC 2. I was on RC1 and it was laggy and had a lot of mistakes.
So I am probably staying til lthey release the official Gingerbred ROM
Stock GB had a battery problem so i flashed honey GB but i did not like it.
Then i flashed Tiramisu EVO EXTRA 3.1. İt was fine. But when i saw CriskeloRom_GINGERBREAD_v25 is ready i flashed this rom. İt has everything i have.
Why not try flashing with insanity? It's given my phone a whole new lease of life!
I found the latest darkys to be very quick and smooth. no 2.3 has bln so if you want that you will have to wait. I also had terrible battery on darkys 2.3 rom but others using the same rom have said they get improved battery so I would give it a try and see how it is for you.
Hi Karim!
Install the stock jvk and after that a deodexed stock rom from Ramad along with Chainfire work you'll be happy...but!...it depends on your needs...would you want to take a little advance by looking into system(little differences in it),or maybe begin to create a custom with the deodexed rom base and it worth it.
If that's not the case, you can wait, nothing hurries.

[Q] Best ROM for my GF :)

Hi All,
Need some advice about the Galaxy S. I am a Nexus S user and would love to get my Girlfriends Galaxy S running better if not as well as my Nexus S. I have tried to get the galaxy S running well but now I think I have done all I can to optimise the stock ROM it has onboard!
I know that for the SGS you must use Odin to flash new ROMs – any warnings to me being a NS user with our easy CWM flashing? I will of course be doing a Nandroid backup of her current ROM in case things go wrong Currently the SGS is rooted and running a branded O2 2.2 Froyo Rom. I have Lag Fixed it using OCLF (Not great I know, but its not my phone I can't always fiddle with it to update it!) and tried to remove bloat using Titanium Backup.
The advice I would love is – which ROM do I put on her phone, when she isn’t the most tech savvy person. I figure there are 3 main options (but feel free to correct me!) for a stable and quick ROM that I won’t have to keep touching and updating or fixing:
Stock 2.3.4 (JVP?)
Nice because it’s stock and from what I’ve read it seems to run fast and is the latest version of phone android like on my Nexus
Darkys ROM
Seems to be a nice option – fast stable and tweaked (a fixed version of stock really no?), but perhaps it has too many options for my non tech savvy GF to be using?
Cyanogen Mod
Only reason I resist this is because it is probably too much of a shift away from the Samsung experience my partner is used to - I would prefer it (I have a nexus so naturally!) but I doubt my girlfriend would appreciate the change. Also it seem CM isn't quite ready for the SGS yet...
Any thoughts or guidance much appreciated! I have searched a lot about the SGS, but not having the phone myself, I figure it might be best to ask users of their opinions and steal your advice!
As this one is for your girlfriend and you are planing already with a "stock" ROM you should for sure go for the latest 2.3.4 Android Version in JVP.
I personally would never go for a "stock" but this is just my personal opinion since I am daily with the phone and can repair things by my own.
Related to ODIN there is not much to say if you read all the guides completely.
I flashed my phone many, many times even using seperat kernels and removing thing before, adding and changing scripts without brick the phone.
Try to safe the EFS dircetory is the only thing I would recommend if it is not mentioned in the guides before doing a flash.
Hope it helps for your decision.
i suggest u use darkky's rom in that case cause the battery alone lasts longer than stock that means more time spent talking to u..
I suggest you leave her phone alone
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using XDA Premium App
I would use one of ramads stock deodexed roms, and then flash a custom kernel, that way she gets no lag, stock, you are safe and your love life will thrive! Now that is slick womanizing!
Insanity cm 016/glitchv10c
after couple testing different ROM .... i am very pleased with Juwe's ROM ..... stable , all works fine , fantastic look ....
Darky's ROM is not a 'fixed' version of stock.
Just go with the latest stock firmware for the best performance, ie flash XXJVQ with Odin after backing up all data

Thanks for your suggestions!
Thanks to you all for your help! I think I am going to go for a stock 2.3 based rom either JVP or JVQ - probably JVQ as google talk video works with it, and now skype video works too - both of which she wants.
@solar666
Thanks I'll definitely be following the guides to the letter - and yeah an EFS backup is also on my to-do list!
@doomsdaycs
Battery Life is very much important, but having seen some youtube videos of Darky's rom, I think the interface & option changes & colours might be too much of a shift - I'd prefer it though!
@acejacksooted & @carvax
Id love to leave it alone, but she complains that it isn't responsive like my nexus and lags sometimes - so I don't have much choice but to deal with it!
@slaphead20
Is there much of an advantage to a deodexed samsung rom? Also, I hope you don't use your phone to chat up all women that way
@bisko69
Is Juwe's rom that different from samsung's roms?
@Mothatt
Yeah I think that's the way I will go - safe!
@jaju123
Again, seems like the best option at the moment. Thanks!
Any other thoughts are more than welcome! Thanks again .
All custom-ROMs except CM7 and MIUI are based on Samsung-stock-ROMs.
ROM-cookers of Samsung-based ROMs add some features and change the colors of the UI. So you should take the custom-ROM which has the nicest colors.

Darkys rom!
I've used many roms, but I always flash Darky v10.1 back.
Ist just so goood, battery life is amazing and still the phone is so simple.
Seeing that your GF rom is still in Froyo, isnt it better to upgrade it to at least stock Gingerbread?
Perhaps you can flash a stock deodexed rom, flash a kernel for root and CWM (i recommend SpeedMod), then flash a theme from the theme forums that you think she will like.
maybe you can even make a theme for her based on what she likes
conclusion: Stock rom with custom theme, if she like to stay on stock samsung experience and a nicer UI

Best STOCK like rom?

I've went back to latest official ROM, 2.3.3 JVH NEE, released in Sweden by Samsung because I got tired to always hunt for the perfekt kernel and the perfect ROM.
Now I know why I started looking for other ROM's.. It's lags when playing musik via Spotify while you surf the net, slow over all respons in UI, I know it's slow due to RFS and I've converted to EXT4, but I'm not fully satisfied.
I want a as near STOCK ROM att possible and stable as original (Yes, the latest Swedish ROM, 2.3.3 JVH, is the most stable ROM I've used and got the best battery time, even tho it's slow.).
Does you know of any ROM that meet these requirements? I would like to not feel the difference if I rebooted my phone yesterday or two weeks ago.

I would recommend you to try SAUROM JVU ROM. It's almost close to stock with huge loads of modifications integrated.
Yes, I would also go for SAUROM if it comes for a close to stock GB ROM. One of the benefits it has over many other Samsung-based ROMs is the integration of JKAY Mod that allows you to customize status bar buttons and power menu. Plus in the newest version it has some handy quick link buttons in the notification drawer.
Thank you guys, I'll take a look at Saurom.
___SAUROM___
I've also tried so many diff ROMs.
All I really wanted is nice working stock ROM.
Tried so many. Did not try SAUROM, cause this is a new one, but tried many SAUROM like. I mean ROMS, that claim that they are just like the stock, but better.
CM was fine, but it was also very complicated. And had some bugs.
Really stupid. I could not sync with google e.g.
Finally I ended up with MIUI. Surprisingly for myself.
Clean, nice, fast, easy swype customization and install.
Here are some screens:
http://db.tt/0gh5gInG
MIUI+Go launcher
It works fast, no lags, no freezes, nothing bad.
GSM works fine, GPS is super fast and accurate, battery is OK.
Finally I don't need to tweak my phone any more.

MIUI & Cyanogen are the real custom ROMS. All the rest are stock-based with tweaks and customization. Saurom is highly customizable compared to the other stock based. But if this doesn't matter to you, you can try Darky's latest ROM from his website. I currently use MIUI Rom, you can try the MINTBerry edition (Which I use ), available on the forum. And I would go for Saurom regarding stock based. Good Luck.

Nightly build still updated, real AOSP, less lag than stock, massive possibilities for customizations.
I've had JVH for some time, later JVU, now latest CM7.2 RC0 with CM7 kernel.
Changed to JVO modem (siky_dude has links to many flashable modems) to fix Hello-Hello-Bug. Better than JVK modem.
T9 dialer, better UI translation than JVU even for Norwegian, native keyboard support nor. + swe. + +
Don't flash each nightly (stress battery time?) but check changelog for interesting fixes. Most of the fixes are not even notable in every day use. Flashing new nightly WILL keep ALL settings, market apps, sms, data... Just clear cache/dalvik/prior flashing, fix permission post flashing.
BTW: ALL ROMs have some lag

I've been using the MIUI mintberry for a few weeks and it's so frickin' amazing. First impression was "oh this is beautiful" then i noticed it was fast. Few days passed and the battery life seemed great. I did some benchmarks and surprised by the results.

Rom recommendation for a long trip..

Hello,
I'm currently using DarkyROM JVH v10.1 with the Dark-Core 2.4 Kernel (Firmware version: 2.3.3) on my Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000.
I've been using this rom for a year and a half now, but right now it's too laggy and the phone tends to hang or crash from time to time (it did work great in the begining though)..
Battery barely lasts a single day..
I'll be going on a long trip of 8-9 months in a few days, and would like to flash a lightweight rom with a minimal amount of apps (aside from music, WhatsUp, Skype, etc).
I need the phone to be fast and reliable (I'll probably be using the WIFI a lot), and most importantly, the battery to last..
Nothing too flashy.
I've learned from a few posts around here that CM9 roms or SlimBean (I think?) might be valid options, but since I'm short on time and can't test them or other roms - what rom / kernel would you recommend to install?
(remember I won't be able to replace it for another 9 months..)
Thanks a lot!
I think that the best for you could be to flash the elitemovil ROM based on ICS or jb too. Cyanogenmod and slim drain more battery than elitemovil's ROM and that ROM is very very very fast. I use the jb version and it's stable and daily driving. Try this fantastic rom

Though I'm a big jb fan and use it on a daily basis, I am also of the opinion that when push comes to shove, gb is the most stable.
That doesn't mean that you cannot have a rock solid jb rom, but there's more research and reading involved to avoid issues.
Meso, gamerz and saurom are all great gb roms if that is where you think you're going.
Regarding ics and jb, experiences vary so much that one cannot state a logic general argument as to why one is better than the other. Perhaps with the exception of that if you have one of the newer sgs with the faster chip, fishears' cm10 rom is specially built to take advantage of it.
Sent from horseback.
I doubt I have the newer chip, I've had this phone for almost 2 years now..
So I should pick one of those:
elitemovil (ICS, JB)
ics333 (ICS)
NFINITUM-sgs-LBR-v1.1.1-M5 (ICS)
Meso (GB)
gamerz (GB)
saurom (GB)
So many options :silly:
I guess I'll have to research a bit.
Thanks guys.
Just you wait, I bet if the thread goes on for a bit, there will be every rom in xda listed here

I'm having a bit of trouble with the installation though, the guide says -
Meso said:
How to install:
1. If coming from version after jvu (xxjw4/xwjw5/6/7/8):
install directly, if u get problems, do wipe data/factory reset and install again.
2. If before jvu:
-Install 2.3.6 jvu stock using odin
-Root using cf-root for jvu
-do a full wipe, then flash the ROM
3. If coming from ICS
-do same steps like above (if before jvu)

1) Darky's version is XXJVO (Baseband) or JVH (Kernel, Build..).
No JW
I guess it means I need the newer stock? Where can I get the right version..?
2) Shouldn't I disable all kind of lag-fixes or other sorts of dangerous stuff before I flash the stock?
I remember Darky's guide was preety detailed about that, but there's nothing on that now and I'm afraid to mess up the installation..
3) Is Titanium the way to go when backing up camera pics / message logs / othe personal data which is not the currently installed apps?
Thanks..
I don't have a link right now, but search for ginger bread value pack, it's a bundle floating around here with everything you need for a good base.
Disable lag fixes to be on the safe side.
Yes, tb is the way to go. If you get issues when restoring, enable "follow all symlinks" in troubleshooting options. My backup root is also an alternative.
