Vivid and Beatbox Portable - HTC Vivid, Raider, Velocity

I saw an ad last night (American Idol) for a Beatbox Portable speaker. They were using a Vivid to send music to the speaker. I assumed that the ad was from AT&T, but as of this morning, the Beatbox Portable does not appear on their website.
I believe I saw that the coming ICS upgrade will contain the Beats software. So, if they are promoting the Vivid-Beatbox combination, does that mean that the "official" ICS upgrade will be coming soon? Or just that they will soon be selling Vivids with the Beats software (and the ICS upgrade)?

I believe the update is bringing beats along with sense 3.6...I work for att and I have not recvd any info on the beats beatbox...looks cool and I would buy it...but waiting on info.
sent from my Vivid floating in rum using tapatalk premium.

Here it is. Yes Sense 3.6 does have Beats Audio built in.

The only problem is they cost $400!

This is weird, I went on AT&T's website yesterday and saw an ad for that boombox and clicked on it to check it out. Had a whole bunch of information. But now I can no longer seem to find it.

I wonder if att is going to officially roll out ics with this speaker at the same time to bring attention to both.

That was my main question at the start of the thread. I was hoping someone with AT&T might chime in.
IF I did spend $400 for the Beatbox, I would be more likely to use my iPod Classic with it. I can put a LOT more music on the iPod than I can on the Vivid.

Seems beatbox portables have been scarce. And is a bit pricy for it's capabilities. Although sound is probably pretty decent.
the tuneboxpc over on the kickstarter.com website looks interesting. (newbie, can't post links yet). It is linux based so should be easy to modify. Seems to be able to work with any web enabled devices. Cheaper than the beatbox, but requires a form of speaker like stereo or plugin speakers....etc.

Who's returning?

In the development section seems root will come soon. Now the question is who.is stil planning on returning the vivid? I have till Monday I bought it a launch. I'm still debating especially with root seemingly coming in some time now from what's been said in think tank in development section.

Not sure how soon it will come, but it's nice to know someone is working on it at this point. I've always favored root rhough XDA as oppose to through HTC.
I think I'm keeping mine. I don't like any of the other phones. Not a fan of Samsung. This phone will be awesome when it is cracked.

keeping mine. stock its not bad, and rooted will be epic! i'd consider the SG2, but for $100 more, it doesnt seem like the right deal... loving the vivid!
Mines going back tomorrow for the nitro, I won't miss it too much since I also have an amaze 4g. The wife doesn't understand why I need 2 hi end phones but what she doesn't realize is that come march I'll have 3 and in July I'll be adding another. If the vivid gets perm root and unlocked with s-off I'll probably get another one. I love the phone and the screen is one of the prettiest out there in my opinion. Hopefully it won't take long to get things moving on it, if htc doesn't keep their promise the amaze might be my last htc device unless if they were to bring a rezound to att, if that happened I'd be like a kid at Christmas.
Best of luck to those keeping it, it really is a great phone but I see the word HD in a device name and I start slobbering all over myself.

I'm Keeping Mine
It does what I need - phone calls, texting, web access, running apps I've installed. Except for a couple of random reboots (none recently) and one system freeze (pulled the battery) over 30 days, I've had no real problems. It's fast when I have a good data connection, and I don't think it's the phone's fault when I don't. I did give AT&T a list of issues for their survey, but overall, I'm satisfied.
As for the Carrier IQ issue, any phone I get from AT&T (except for possibly the iPhone 4S) will have CIQ software on it. Rooting, when available, may not be totally stable yet for any of the new LTE phones. The best solution for me is to keep my communications plain vanilla, which I do any way, so there's nothing that I need to be worried about. I do want to CIQ stuff off my phone if and when there is a safe way to do it.

as for rooting LTE phones, i guess you havent seen the GS2 Skyrocket forums? its rooted and has custom roms.
I have 211 confirmed receipts so far from those were lied to and are joining the class action suit.

Our own Gsleon has been talking with Evil_Devnull a little bit. Evil is working on rooting the HTC Rezound (which is nearly identical to the Vivid). So as of now, keep on the lookout for the progress with the Rezound root, because that could very well translate to when/how we Vivid owners get root.

Went in to return the vivid tonight...
I didn't.
Quite simply, there is no viable alternative.
The skyrockets screen is horrendous and build quality is scary.
The nitro has the most beautiful screen I have ever seen but it is so laggy, unresponsive and jittery it feels like am entry level Android device, plus even with an unlocked bootloader devs hate LG so who knows what roms will ever come out for it.
So I sit... And pray someone crack this thing.

Finally... someone talks some sense. LG development is/has always been a joke. Samsung development consists of TouchWiz and AOSP Rom's (is there even a difference between the two?). I guess I can see all the people pissy about being lied to from HTC, but I don't see another option right now. Samsung phones are boring. I'm waiting for Evil and Gsleon.

[Q] What will you do when the S3 comes out?

If it's better than I think it will be and I can get unlimited data to work with it than I will say good by to the big red and be on AT&T only.
what I would need to upgrade:
720P oled+ (This is a must)
LTE (On AT&T bands)
good deal faster CPU/GPU
What does it need to have and will you wait for anything or inport (If need be) right a way?
Thanks and let the thread begin!
buy it right away of course, but must have Tmobile AWS 1700
chances are it'll most likely be pentaband
Most likely purchase it day one if specs are right and will keep an eye out for the competition. Still happy with my galaxy s2 nothing beats it at this present moment.

What will I do? Rejoice that these threads will be gone.
Actually... ****... They'll be replaced by "How many dates have you and your S3 gone on!?!?!?!?!?"
I understand this phone will be awesome and everything but what the hell guys lol. Every other thread created is for this phone.
In other news I may get it if Verizon gets it.
Well I will be thinking long and hard about this. I was happy with the big red for about 14 days and then it went to crap quick form there vs crap at first and then a lot better with AT&T. I am starting to think they will NEVER FIX there POS LTE network. I have started to read more into it and the more I read the more full of it I think Verizon is. I could just have a bad phone, but I know they won't take it back. In less it's dead, It's a nightmare to get anyone to take back anything. Yes I am mad, because for the 3rd night in a row my S2 on H+ loads 1080P video just fine and my razr is "loading" and then plays and THEN MORE LOADING.
Ok thats all
It would be a hard thinking... thought because the iPhone 4S is really awesome too :/
The 4s lags too much for me, but I know a lot like the phone so I put it up there and for the LOL's.
If the 5 came out at the same time than maybe, but then I would likely find a way to mess it up and hate it. (I can brake ios on ipad,iphone4 and 4s/ipad2. I meen like boot loop it. don't ask what I do to the poor things)
I would crawl under my bed and cry.

What happened to the Droid DNA? The DNA has only been out for 3 months and HTC is already forgetting it.

The DNA was released for Verizon only. All other major us carriers are getting the one, except verizon. HTC has already announced that 'the one' will be the only one series device in 2013. I understand everyone's setbacks. But I'm not passing up on a hardware beauty like this one. Not to mention it looks like every major dev team is planning on getting at least one. I gave HTC a shot and I'm done with them :/ I hate having to unlock the bootloader...and s off - that's just stupid...they honestly make it so hard to customize your phone...heck it be easier to jailbreak an iPhone than get an HTC phone setup for Rom flashing, then you got the crappy source...and extra security measures...(in-call Mic issues for att users) - who's to say they won't do the same on the one....if the s off process is anything like the vivids...well good luck with that as I'm pretty sure the one doesn't have a removable battery /end rant

My gf has one, and she loves it. I couldn't get it, though, because it doesn't have SD card expansion. I love my SD card way too much, so I got the Vivid instead. Couldn't be happier.
My one X is s-off a new method recently came out to do it, and it's nothing like the Vivid was cause I owned that to, never bothered to try s-off due to the stupid method.
HTC is doing a stupid move by removing microSD slots from their newer phones. We aren't babies, I'm tired of HTC treating us only a few years older then Apple does their users.
With all that being said, I'm not wasting hundreds and hundreds on a device that can't even include the basics like access to the battery and a MicroSD slot. This is day one **** HTC. I WON'T be getting a one, actually selling my HTC one X right now to switch brands. Sad sad thing.

According to this article (and others like it I could not find right away) the reputation you speak of for HTC is not true. In terms up updating thier phones, HTC is the best of the major OEMs. Get a ONE!
... not to mention this is the first time (or first time in a while) we've seen them drop the same phone on many carriers, and tout a phone as their flagship for the year.
I feel like they'll be behind making this thing the best they can make it this year.
The best of all major OEM's?! Are you joking? Call me a Sammy fanboy all you want but there upgrading 2 year old phones still, and many, many others! I do NOT see HTC doing this. Samsung has way more phones out then HTC and still manages to do this. I honestly might be getting the One but by no means is HTC the best at updating.

Also keep in mind Samsung's success has them being the top android manufacturer. They have a lot more money to hire developers than HTC. This allows them to keep up with their devices like they do. But Samsung used to be terrible before their success. HTC might become very competitive on updates as well. They're not bad now, but sprint did drag their feet with the Evo 3D.

Indeed, with the One I think we're going to see big things for HTC over the next year. A unified phone being the biggest contributor to their increase sales. They did what the GS3 did originally but stepped up their game with a modern phone with modern specs. Competition is good for the two, it will make everyone else reach harder to stay on par and they'll compete for who has the better phone. I think when 5.0 is dropped most likely next month, both manufactures will be rushing to get it out, we can only hope that the carriers don't drop the ball.
I think HTC has already stated that a 4.2.2 build is in the works and we'll get it soon. (Hopefully)

I know, was just poking some fun. I've had a Samsung Moment, LG Optimus One, then an HTC Evo 3D all on Sprint. I also follow smartphones/tablets and new technology in general daily (actually, part of my job sort of). What I've seen is Samsung sucked at updates until that had success with the Galaxy series, even the early Galaxy's were slow to get updates. The LG phones were lucky to get anything at all. HTC updated pretty well recently, except in the US. International HTC devices got updates pretty quickly and regularly, but Sprint was slow to do so. Sprint seems to have been slow about this in general just like every other carrier here in the US. Although, the Evo 3D was extremely late (almost a year later) to the ICS party. This update was promised to us pretty early and it started to feel like we'd never get it by the time it released. Then Sprint held it for testing I assume for a few more months. The Evo 3D users were suspecting Sprint was holding onto the ICS update to encourage people to buy their Boost Mobile variant of the phone as it released with ICS, was the same exact phone with a different name, and was supposed to attract people to Boost. Not sure if this is the real reason, it was a month or two after that phone launched the rest of us got ICS.
In either case, HTC wasn't bad about it, they weren't great but they weren't bad. Sprint, on the other hand, seems to have been slow and I know there are a number of reasons for this. They need to test everything before they launch it. Does it work on their network properly and with their bloatware? They have to prioritize their devices to test and they have to be thorough to ensure they aren't liable for anything going wrong. It's a crappy system, but thats how it is.

And it also comes with a creaky, terrible housing. Software versus hardware... Take your pick. One can be changed, the other can't. (Of course you can always put a solid case on it. My wife is probably going to get the GS4, so I won't speak too terribly about it, and I will by no means call it a bad phone... just poor build quality, especially compared to the One.)

http://www.theverge.com/2013/4/24/4257254/samsung-galaxy-s4-review
I don't like holding this phone, and I can't overstate how much that informs the experience of using it. It makes an awful first impression, slippery and slimy and simply unpleasant in your hand. My white review unit is completely smooth and glossy, with a subtle checkered pattern that looks textured but is neither grippy nor textured anywhere on its body. Even the silver band around the sides, which is obviously supposed to look like metal, is plastic. Everyone I showed the GS4 to frowned and wrinkled their nose as if it smelled bad, before rubbing their fingers on the back of the phone and then handing it back to me — that's the opposite of the standard reaction to HTC’s One, which everyone wants to ogle and hold. That's going to be a huge problem for Samsung, because the GS4 and One are likely to be next to each other on store shelves, and at least on first impression there's absolutely no contest between the two.

Hmmm Evo LTE came out June, was updated December. 6 months, only 2 months after Sprint released the update for the SG3. Sounds like its not HTC or Samsung but the carrier who is the culprit.
Now lets see. All the GS3's outside the US got upgraded to 4.1.2 in december. Has the GS3 been updated in the US yet? Nope, has it recieved the new samsung premium suite package that everyone else with the GS3 recieved? Nope. Hmmmmm....
If you actually looked at the link posted above, you can clearly see that there isn't much of a difference between Samsung and HTC as far as timely updates.

I honestly don't care about what it's made of as long as it looks good, and performs good I'm fine. I am more of a specs and software kind of person. Although the one does have me pretty intrigued because I've never had a phone built as so, and I listen to music and watch a lot of videos so I know those speakers will come in handy. I'm going to give it a test drive, and if I don't like it, I'll just switch to the S4. The only reason I'm hesitant is because I'm not a big fan of sense... nor am I a big fan of all the stuff you have to do to root the thing. Compared to Samsung phones, it's way more difficult.

As much as I love the One, I was actually thinking the same. If the GS4 comes out and it's amazing, I'll simply switch over. The build quality is no competition, but like I said, you can always get a solid case. I would like a larger screen. If I could get my hands on a phone with 5.5" screen and current hardware, I would probably jump on it (LG Optimus G Pro, if it ever comes to Sprint?).

If you want that, why not get the note 2? It's going to get a lot of the S4 features, and I wouldn't go with LG. The Optimus G has been out less then a year, and had 1 update and is already EOL.

HTC First Discontinued

According to BGR, the First is about to be discontinued: http://bgr.com/2013/05/13/htc-first-discontinued-att-facebook-phone/
I love the First, it's a great size that can be used one-handed, it has stock Android, and the battery life is amazing. But I've held off buying one because I want to make sure it gets CyanogenMod support first. If it does get official CM support, I'll go out of my way to get one, if I still can.
Does anybody know how long it will take HTC to release the source for the First, so CM support might start?
The only competitor to the First on AT&T is probably the One Mini, but rumors are that the Mini will have a significantly smaller battery than the First (1700 instead of 2000mah).
Can't say I didn't see it coming. With the lack of support in this section I doubt it would get official CM support.
I might pick up one of these in the bargain bin if I find a good deal somewhere. I'm looking to open a second line for my daughter, without a contract and this one will fit the bill.

yeah might pick one up too. 150$ on eBay isn't bad of a deal.
That's disappointing. Now I question whether it would be a good idea to give my mom this phone.
On the other hand, there is a update with this statement from AT&T in the article:
As mentioned previously, we do pricing promotions all the time and have made no decisions on future plans.

Though, I don't have huge hopes.
$150 where? Cheapest I could find was 300 new. Well I have mine and cm is mostly booting. Hope to have it sorted out in the next day or so

This is one of the best phones I have seen for years. I dont understand why so few people bought it, it even has stock android... It should be easier to develop a working cm for this one than for all these galaxies out there. I would even get over the small storage for all the advantages.

I've been trying to figure out how to compile CM as well, do you have any repositories I could look at yet, or is it all still just on your local checkout? I'm not having as much luck, but I've never built CM for anything beyond my Galaxy Nexus before, so I'm not familiar with porting it to new devices.

Yeah it's on my github. Same username as here. I would suggest against flashing it though. I barely trust it right now

This is sad to hear. I just got one for my grandmother too. While 4.1 is nice, the polish of 4.2 vastly improves the experience with things like a timer, stop watch, and swype keyboard. Sadly, I don'y see 4.2 coming official to this device.
The phone has descent specs, at least it could be a good option for some CM10.1 love
I might pick this up soon since it's so cheap now. Will this get 4.2 at least? Hope so. Seems like a good purchase. What color did you guys get it in?
very sad to hear indeed. its a terrific phone. the size is great, love the way the back feels, and the battery life is terrific imo. it feels very sturdy too. as soon as my store got a bunch of dummy units in i knew i was going to like it. im carrying around the company's seed unit and im very impressed (black model... gosh i love the look of that red and baby blue though). would love cm10.1 on this machine.
Here's another vote of confidence for this outcast phone. Really love the design. Who cares what software it's running, we'll flash our own anyway. I've been waiting so long for an upgrade from my HTC Aria, which I got specifically because it was small.
HTC has got to do something with all its unused stock, if they're smart they'll simply remove FB Home and push it back out, if they're dumb we should see these babies go for nothing like the HP TouchPad. Either way this phone has a lot of potential to sell like hotcakes.
Broke my HTC One X screen and got an HTC First for $50 brand new. Agree with all the other positive comments about this phone so far. Rooted. unlocked bootloader, freeze Facebook Home and loving every bit of it so far. My only gripe is the weak camera, but to find solid specs on a smaller form factor is so hard these days.
May I ask where you got it from?

Won it at an auction at work.
So when do you all think First cases will start hitting the discount bin.
Well I haven't forgotten about it.

Nah it's just jb sense 4+. It has some sizing issues I need to finish up. I also need to fix audio but that should be easy enough
