ICS test firmware tackling Wi-Fi and HDMI issues - Gen9 Android Development

Please check the following firmware and report in this thread if it solves your Wi-Fi or HDMI issues.
http://update.archos.com/9/gen9/gen9_4.0.4-TEST/firmware_archos_it4.aos
There might be still some audio out problems with HDMI with OMAP4430 ES2.2 based platforms (check in settings->about tablet->OMAP version): we are still working on it and will come up with a solution shortly.
Thank you for your help/feedback and patience.

very tempting to try... but i will wait for someone to make a custom rom with root out of it...

This ROM is not intended to get custom ROM, with root and other options.
As far as i understood it is just a test ROM for users who have troubles with the official ICS update to check if this solves their issues.
Thus, if you are impacted, then just download it and test if it corrects WiFi and HDMI issues.
Cheers,

I am an Archos staff, I do not do custom firmwares: I do the real ones

Downloaded and installed:
-when updated from GUI (.aos copied to Gen9 when Android was running) resulted in no backlight after reboot; installation from recovery was successful
-as before Reset Android is required for the update, otherwise boot process hangs during dalvik-cache rebuilding
-Wifi works better but still sometimes disconnects- connected to 802.11n SoftAP (ar2971 usb wlan+ built-in Win7 wifi AP)
-there are no problems connecting to 802.11g- wifi tethering on HTC Desire (CM7.2, Android 2.3.7)
Sorry, I can't test HDMI- I don't have proper monitor/TV

I misplaced my charger cable..so I'm not able to test this. If I find it i will test this out and report my findings.

Box : Freebox v5
Problem : yes
in audio/video archos application i see the files in twice !those files are on SC card

I'm having some 'strange' issues on wifi, so have downloaded this update and will apply it and let y'all know shortly if it breaks / fixes anything
- EDIT- So far so good. The firmware installed without a hitch (I copied it to root of Internalstorage and selected Yes when tablet asked to upgrade). It rebooted, upgraded firmware, rebooted, optimized applications and nothing seems broken. However, it DOES (so far) seem to have fixed the issue I had with Wifi - the issue I had was when I click on a UTL, it loads the browser (I use Dolphin HD) and this says 'Cannot load the page as there is no internet conenction' but then it loads the page anyway. This (so far ) is not happening anymore. Will play with the tablet this weekend and update this post if I have more.
For the record - my tablet is OMAP4460ES1.1 (whatever that means) - Archos 80 G9 16GB Turbo

Installed the test-firmware, same wifi-problems as before. There is no stable connection possible (my router: fritzbox 3270).

I've forgot to mention- my Wifi AP is using wpa2 with AES encryption
Other thoughts- confirmation dialogs in recovery would be usefull (I've wiped storage by mistake today....)

I agree with u 100% that confirmation dialogs should be included. I've accidentally formatted before, thinking it would confirm. +1

Wunderful !
I can finally look back videos with sound.
Great Thanks!

WPA TKIP
I have changed the encryption-settings to WPA TKIP (former: WPA+ WPA2) on the fritzbox 3270.
Now everthing works fine!

my results seem inconclusive. previously, Wifi seemed to not reconnect for me after i turned my screen of (without manually turning wifi off then on again). I installed the test firmware, and it seemed to work good, however i booted back into sde firmware, and the problem seems to be gone there now? Doesn't make sense to me

Logcat from my Archos tab attached.

Updated earlier today, fixed my Wi-Fi issues. Connections now solid and fast. Never had a problem with HDMI, can confirm it still works though.
Thank you Archos!!!!

Thanks! It works much better on wifi than before, but still not perfect.
I'm using it with an 802.11g network and WEP encryption (I know!)
Still occasionally loses connection, but nowhere near as often.
Haven't been able to test HDMI yet.

Loses connection less frequently but still a bit unstable
Thanks for the updated firmware, it is great to see Archos taking such an active role
My router is an Airport Express 802.11g w/ WPA
With the update, the tablet drops connection less frequently and always seems to pick it up quickly but still a bit unstable.
The tablet works perfectly for 8 hours spans without internet but as soon as you connect to a secure Wifi it rarely goes 30 minutes without requiring a hard reset. This happens less frequently when syncing is turned off but still makes the tablet pretty worthless for web browsing and the like.

Update - my G9 is still having wifi issues but less frequently. My browser sometimes reports `no internet ` before it loads page anyway and sometimes when I unlock my g9, it briefly shows `no internet connection` on the notification bar. Seems to me like it is dropping wifi completely when not in active use. However I cannot find anywhere to set/change this in settings

Connecting to 802.1x encrypted Wifi

My school has campus-wide wifi that is encrypted using 802.1x enterprise encryption and I can't get my N1 to connect to it. Under the wifi settings the network shows up in range, but it shows up as a WEP wifi connection which isn't the case. I can manually add a connection and choose 802.1x and configure it as it should in order to connect, however when I do that it shows up at the bottom of the list as "Not in range, remembered" despite the fact that the SSID of the same name still shows up as that incorrect WEP encrypted connection.
Has anyone successfully connected to a 802.1x encrypted connection using their N1?
Do you need to install a security cert?
My N1 doesn't arrive until tomorrow, and I haven't tried connecting to my current school's wireless network. My last school had enterprise security, and I had to install a certificate on my laptop, and special software on my Windows mobile.
If no one else gets back to you, I'll see if I can screw around tomorrow evening.
Some googlin' brought up some maybe relevant info:

I am using a stock Nexus One on Android 2.2. I got it running by entering the following (be sure to 'FORGET' the SSID that automatically comes up in favour of manually creating it) at 'Settings' >> WiFI:
EAP method: (I can choose b.w. PEAP, TLS or TTLS) and I choose PEAP
CA certificate: no choice … merely shows in brackets (unspecified)
User certificate: (unspecified)
Identity: (I enter) [MY-USERNAME, e.g., [email protected]]
Anonymous identity: (leave blank)
Password: [MY_PASSWORD]
Our university relies on WPA2/EAP/MS-CHAP .... but in our case putting the entire username did the trick.
I believe the Android 2.1 UI is deficient and will not let you enter the above, and from what I have read those who have 'rooted' their phone (and voided their warranty) have placed something like the following wpa_supplicant.conf file in /etc/wifi :
##### wpa_supplicant configuration file template #####
update_config=1
ctrl_interface=eth0
eapol_version=1
ap_scan=1
fast_reauth=1
Network={
ssid="MY_SSID"
key_mgmt=IEEE8021X
eap=PEAP
phase2="auth=MSCHAPV2"
identity="MY_USERNAME"
password="MY_PASSWORD"
}
Some have mentioned that any certificate (e.g., Thawte) should be .p12 configuration and placed in the root directory of the SD Card. The best info for those who want to 'root' their Nexus one is Joe Levi's commentary at: http://pocketnow.com/tweaks-hacks/video-flashing-froyo-on-your-nexus-one
But as I stated, I have mine running the Net locally, and just need the proxy turned off by the uni. to get out.
Hope this helps.
I'm having the same issue at work. It appears as a WEP network and adding it as 802.1x says the network is not in range.
I'll give that wpa_supplicant.conf hack a go later.
I solved this issue, with the WiFi Advanced Config Editor (available in the marketplace)
my WIFI is 802.1x, with PEAP,MSCHAP v2
connect to the listed wifi with wep enabled, use any password
then modify the configuration with the WiFi Advanced Config Editor set as 802.1x, PEAP, MSCHAP v2, set user identity and password remove and remove any WAP settings
a enjoy
In my case, i have ICS 4.0, i try all suggestions above, but not work.
Someone can help me? Please

Bluetooth Tethering

I am wondering if this method also goes through the same authentication process via the SIMcard like wifi tethering does?
So is it as readily trackable as wifi tethering?

It is looks like Bluetooth PAN not detectible yet but I can't guaranty that. It use absolutely different way and embedded tethering application ignore Bluetooth PAN as not tetherable interface.
Code:
Tethering: bnep0 is not a tetherable iface, ignoring
In addition, Bluetooth PAN can work on original ROM (if verizon network in your area are provided IPv4 DNS addresses only) without any modifications (it would use 100% CPU but it work) and It does not requesting any additional service options from Verizon. And only bugs in DNSMASQ prevent Bluetooth PAN usage in stock ROM with IPv6 DNS address

[Q] Wifi Hotspot not working (DNS Problem)

Hello All,
Internet is not working on my laptop when I use my Incredible S's WIFI Hotspot. Connection is ok with following IPs:
Laptop IP: 192.168.1.80
DHCP Server IP: 192.168.1.1
DNS Server IP: 192.168.1.1
Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1
When I use USB tethering everything goes fine but when I use WIFI Hotspot, internet doesnot work. I configured that my Laptop is unable to get the DNS resolution from my mobile as I can still connect Skype on my laptop.
I cannot ping www.google.com but if I can put the direct IP of google server (like 173.194.34.164) I get the ping response. This means my DNS server is having problems in resolving web addresses for my laptop.
I am using stock ICS 4.0.4.
Please help

[Q] EAP Authentication FTL CM11

While I was running the FTL CM11 build from 11/19, I attempted to connect to my schools WiFi which uses EAP authentication. I encountered a problem where I would not be able to connect to a network behind EAP, but could successfully connect to an open WiFi network. I have confirmed that EAP does work in TripNDroid however.

Can't connect to both Cell data and Local Adhoc Wifi website

Have a Nexus 6 Rooted; Android 7.0 Stock and attempting to:
1) Stay Connected to cellular data
2) Connect via WiFi to Local Ad-Hock Network ( DHCP); "SharedData"
3)Access both WWWeb sites via browser, and the local webserver on the local WiFi ad-hock network ( @ DHCP 192.168.4.1 on SSID "SharedData")
*Constraint: Can not change webserver from current IP scheme which is
SSID: "SharedData"
BSSID: f4:55:95:11:3a:3f
Lease duration: 86400
Server address: 192.168.4.1
Broadcast address: 192.168.4.255
DNS(1) address: 192.168.4.1
DNS(2) address: 0.0.0.0
Mask: 0.0.0.0
Gateway: 192.168.4.1
IF the Cell side data connection is disabled, can connect to local WiFi network, and access the local webserver, but once the Cell side data is re-enabled, the WiFi stays connected but browser request for HTTP: //192.168.4.1 fail and can no longer reach the local webserver.
Seems to be a routing / DNS tied issue, but not sure how Android handles request when cell data and wifi are both active and handling request.
Any ideas of a configuration that preferable will not require root would be appreciated, any and all idea are appreciated.
Thanks!

Your issue is that it cant be used at the same time as they use the same hardware. As an example. When mms comes in and you are connected to wifi the radio disables the wifi connection for a sec to download it on the cell network. They both use the same antenna so only one connection is active at a time.
