looking for a flip case or just one to cover the back? unfortunately there's not much choice with our phones

I have this one, it's cheap and pretty good

I use a black leather flip case by PDAir. Costs roughly $28, great look & feel. I've used PDAir cases for my earlier WM phones, so I'm happy with it.

Similar here, using S CURVED GEL CASE COVER FOR HTC Incredible S. Looks, feels nice and it doesn't make phone bulky. For screen I went with cheapest Matte Anti Glare protector. Survived a couple of drops (~2m) on tiles and still works like new (so I guess this would rate as Good )

Ive got the S one too, its got good grip, the sides are a bit rough so theres great grip.
It kind of breaks it up on the back too, I think it looks a bit weird without the case
It adds better feedback for the buttons too

I had This, very nice

I have the case mate barely there,I guess it won't protect very much, but it came with my phone when I bought it (used).
For screen protectors I use HTC Original ones bought on ebay.de (about 3eur 2protectors) they are nice.

It funny because I can't use the phone without it, I think it's too thin/slippery maybe because I had the phone with the cover since I bought it...

Otterbox defender.
Next best thing to Nintenium. Not cheap though.

I use the casemate barely there cover and a HTC original screen protector too. Reasonably good protection against scrapes and scratches, no extra bulk but won't protect against a hard knock or a drop I reckon.

But I am thinking of buying HTC S510 pouch too.I saw one of a friend's HTC HD2 and it was amazing.

For prospective buyers from England, I got me a" iGadgitz Dual Tone Black Durable Crystal Gel Skin" from Amazon
Cheap cheerful, pretty solid and has a screen protector included. Great!

None! Thats the best one.. especially for the inc s.. Give thx to the surface. 1year using, Nov scratches.

I am using an Otterbox Commuter case.. The back is very similar to the device itself, but it adds a little bit of bulk to it.. (not much though). This case protects your phone against pretty much everything except for water (offcourse). I even dropped my phone once of the stairs and you couldn't even see it. Another good thing about this case is the fact it has two layers: rubber and a plastic case around it. The positive thing about this: the rubber also protects the earphone jacket and micro USB-plug against dust etc.. That was one of my main reasons to go with this case.. not the cheapest though, but it is excellent! Also comes with a screenprotecter btw..

Heavy Duty Cases

Has anyone seen any heavy duty cases other than the Otterbox Defender? I take classes in a machine shop and have a job doing maintenance at a gas station, so I need a case with plenty of protection. I've heard talk of the seidio convert but have yet to see one pop up. Also watching Trident closely. Anyone have any suggestions of places to look? i would get a Defender, but I haven't seen one in store yet and want to get my hands on one before buying.

+1 Bulky, but pretty much bomb proof.
The screen protector membrane on the Defender seems to be a worse grease and fingerprint magnet than the naked Vivid screen. It's a real mess and difficult to keep clean. I'm giving serious thought to cutting it out of the case and using it without any screen protection.
i have the otterbox commuter with an aftermarket screen protector.. and its great.. however if you are doing maintenance and such you probably want to try to find something that has a hard cover over the screen.
I, for one, am not keen on dropping upwards of $10 on a case...
I'm waiting for the Otterbox Impact to hit Amazon, hopefully at the same price as the iPhone one.
Does anyone conclusively know if our phone's screen is Gorilla Glass or not?

If you're gonna do that, I'd just save a few bucks and get an OB Commuter case. They offer similar protection minus a built in screen protector. They do have an adhesive one you can apply that comes with it. They also aren't as bulky. The only drawback is no belt clip.

I cant seem to find anything definitive actually from HTC on this one, but a user on a different site said he sent an email to HTC about his Raider (same thing as the Vivid on a different network) and recieved this response:
"Thank you for contacting HTC Technical support about if your Raider device has Gorilla Glass for the screen of your device. In our commitment to quality, HTC pioneered the use of shatterproof glass in smartphones. At the time, Corning was the only manufacturer and we used their product, Gorilla Glass. Since then, many manufactures have developed and advanced shatter-proof glass technology, allowing HTC to use the highest quality cutting edge shatterproof glass in our smartphones while keeping costs low for our customers."
Meaning, not Gorilla Glass but something thats supposed to be just as good.
Otterbox if you want REALLY GOOD protection against drops

I'm using the Ballistic case. Had one on my atrix4g and liked it so much I ordered one 5 minutes after buying the vivid. It has thick rubber on the corners and a hard plastic backing. It doesn't block any ports, cameras, mics , or speakers. Best of all it makes pressing g the power and volume buttons infinitely easier.

All otterbox cases are made in China. There very cheap materials. And the price is just insanely expensive. That's probably why they can afford $600,000 shipping fedex every night. If your responsible you shouldn't need an tough case if you just use it in everyday normal situations. And if your worried insurance is cheap.

I'm gonna +1 on the commuter. its not nearly as expensive as people try to make out. You can get a relatively inexpensive one on amazon or ebay...

+1 without the screen, wouldn't it be pretty much a commuter?
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using XDA
I have/had a defender. The case itself is fine. Protects the phone well. The issue I have and have always had with any phone is the carry case clip breaks too easily. I haven't had my case but maybe two months and the clip that holds the phone in place when you decide to wear it broke. Third time for the clip on case to break. The case for the phone is great but the carry case design is real cheap.
I'm using an otterbox commuter. I really like the way the case feels, though I often swap batteries mid day, and this thing can be a pain to take off and put back on. I had the impact on my captivate, it was a bit loose for my tastes, which is why I got the commuter. Really wish they made an otterbox with a battery door.
I wouldn't sweat no gorilla glass. From what I read the glass it has is equivalent to it. I threw away the included screen protector with my otterbox, and I don't plan on getting one. 1 week in and no scratches so far.
BTW my commuter was only like $15 shipped. I don't consider that a high price at all. I got it off amazon, sold by a company called "smart overstock". I love otterbox cases and will probably continue to buy them.
I use the otterbox commuter with a Moshi White iVisor Screen Protector on mine and it is well protected and the best thing is that the Moshi can be taken off and washed and reused, and there are no bubbles because it only sticks to the area around the screen and they are a great protector. As for otterbox I drive up to their offices in Fort Collins and got my comuter for $10.00 and a defender for $15.00 so they are not that expensive.
I had a Seidio Active case on my Inspire and I LOVED it. I've had the OtterBox defender before and I just find Seidio to be a more solid case. I have one ordered for my Vivid and it should be here Monday. If you want, I'll post pics so you can see.

Here is what I went with.

Diztronic, love it!

I bought directly from the site of the seller.
I've been a user of this case since my last phone (HTC Evo LTE). The case did me really well on that phone and it was slim on form factor. Protector was also very good on the previous phone as I've dropped it couple times with the phone in the case. No damage were shown on the case or on the phone. Because of this, I decided that I would choose the same company again if I were to change phones.
This time around, I went with the Samsung Note 2 as an upgrade to my previous phone. The case wasn't announced when I got the phone, but soon after they decided to make the case. I bought it the second day it was announced through the owners site. Case arrived quickly and the quality is still superb. If you check this listing, there's a few photos that I posted which represented the case. When you lay the case flat with the phone inserted, it's basically the same thickness as the Evo LTE with the phone in a diztronic case. Adds very very minimal bulk which doesn't affect the usability.
The back of the case is a matte finish. This matte finish actually allows the user to grip the phone better. That's not just it, the finish also reduces all fingerprints and dust particles.
Phone cutouts are all perfect and aligned to the spot. Power button and volume buttons use a soft silicon touch. It's covered, but in no way does it affect the touch. I can still easily press those buttons and the phone would respond to my action.
Overall, great case! Price is right! Go for it!
Im pretty pleased with mine too even though I normally dont use tpu protectors. It has a really nice feel and the sides seem like they provide substantial protection. No real complaints from me. I know diztronic has a great reputation and this was my first case from them so im happy.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 2
Im on the same boat!! I detest silicone and TPU cases as they are flimsy and stretchy, causing plenty of dusts to get trapped inside and scratch the device. But when I saw this case on Diztronic site I was very amazed so I ordered one. It arrived fairly fast despite the holiday seasons for US to Australia. Been using for 2 days and have to say, the best TPU case I've ever seen. The texture is very very nice, matte and really nice to touch and hold, raised lips to protect the screen, cover all the buttons (my favourite features), compact and thin enough but still have a decent protection from it. I'm very happy with this case, by far the best case I've got for Note 2 yet.
The only thing they should improve is to stick with matte texture all the way rather than having the raised lips/edges in glossy texture. And the seams could use some clean up.
Perhaps. I kinda like the edges with the smooth finish. Feels good when I need to stretch fingers across the whole phone.
One other plus I noticed is it seems to not get stretched easy. As I said this is my first Diztronic case so I'm sure others already know, but I've taken it on and off about 5 times and it still fits tight.

I think it's pretty firm on my end. I don't seem to loose control of it when it's in my hand.
I just want to pipe in and say I really like the Diztronic tpu case on my note 2. I used their cases on my Galaxy Nexus and was very happy. They add very little weight and size to the phone, yet I feel like my phone has pretty decent protection. My Galaxy Nexus still looks brand new, even though I dropped it a few times. I've dropped my note 2 one time and it still looks perfect.

Quick question on people who has it, I checked out the bodyglove case from sprint, and while it fits nice the sides were flimsy, does the diztronic fit nice and tight on the sides?

I am currently using the otter-box defender on mine, it adds some bulk to the phone, but over all it does a good job, and I got it for free, any time I have had an otter-box thats gotten beat to hell, they have always been happy to replace the part of the case, or the entire case as long as I send them a picture.

I'm currently enjoying my Otterbox Commuter and Trident Aegis cases.
I LOVE my dot view case. Great protection, the cover features really do come in handy, and I really dig the overall look. This is my first cover case and I've gotten to used to it really quickly. Besides the dot view that I've also been using Skinomi back skin when I want to go naked to prevent scratches (had issues with my M7). The install was easy, the fit was great, and no visible orange peel that I can see.

100% with you! Love this case, love the magnet on/off and the dot functions. Takes a tiny bit of getting used to if you have not used a flip case (like me). Think it looks pretty slick and smart, ten times better than a generic amazon jelly cases.
I feel all the complaints are a tiny bit unfair, that is... apart from the price. But £30 to protect a £600 phone for two years seems good to me. I think the spring of the cover will dissipate after a month of use so the one handed usability will return.
BUUUUUUUUUUUUT
I think it has sub-par protection capabilities. I only got this case because of the condition of my two year old HOX. Not a scratch on it, never dropped/thrown or scratched. DO NOT BUY THIS CASE FOR PROTECTION. It pops out very easily and the sides are not protected. I'm worried that sliding the phone in and out of my pocket may one day catch the volume rocker then just rip it off.
Good case with minimal protection; otter box or equivalent for repeat drop offenders!!!
I used a Spigel Glas.T slim on my Xperia Z, and it was a huge disappointment, cause the glass was so thick that the edges became a 90 angle which caught on stuff. However, the case I got with the M8 (Scandinavia. Don't know what the case is called) has a little lip outside of the edges, so it might be OK with this phone.
Of course, then I'd have to wear the case all the time, which isn't really that big of a problem, but who knows what cool cases might appear in the future, without a lip...
Maybe I'm overthinking this

Haha you're probably right. I typically go naked with all my phones so I might feel a bit over protected by having a full cover case on for the first time.
Very subjective as people have different needs for their cases.
For me, I find the UAG to be the best case for me.
TPU covers are minimal but also provide minimum protection.
OtterBox Defender cases provide excellent protection but add a large amount of bulk.
For me, the UAG is the best of both worlds. Very good impact protection but does not add a ton of bulk.
I second uag. Just got mine today and absolutely love it. Provided good protection and isn't very bulky also the design is very cool. I saw some drop videos of this case on various phones and it stood up to a 6 foot drop flat on the screen, now that's impressive.

Great case. Very well crafted. i used lots of cases in the past and they seem to have some imperfection. with this one i haven't noticed any. the camera cut off is perfect. the buttons are very responsive better than the one on the phone. the M8 was very slippery not anymore with this case. very solid on hand. it,s a bit heavy and adds little bit of bulkiness but that,s not issue for me. overall great looking case that offers sleek look and good protection.
it blocks the IR blaster but no big deal for me
I really like how all of Spigen's cut outs on all of their cose styles are exact to the leanses and flash etc. Instead of larger mutli use holes. It just makes it look so much nicer.

Supcase unicorn beetle pro

Just picked up the unicorn beetle pro (the otter box level one ) and just wanted to say it is a great case, I'm not much for writing reviews but can answer any questions if anyone else was looking at this case. It seems super durable, it's thick but reasonably so, the ir /power button has a clear cover so it still functions. The rubber sides are much harder than an otter box and don't pull on and off when you pull it from your pocket like some other cases.

I'll add to the positive reviews of this case. I ordered it early through Amazon so I too got it at a great price figuring I had very little to lose. I'm extremely pleased with most aspects of this case. I'm coming from an M7 with a UAG case so I have something good to compare this case to. Best things about this case are:
-built-in screen protector with tacky back. this keeps the plastic protector in constant contact with the screen so not air gaps like LifeProofs iPhone case
- completely covered plastic power button. much better IMO than UAG's slotted rubber button because it provide tactile feedback
-port covers. keeps the dust out
-very little metal is exposed. the camera lenses on back have the typical case protection but I really like the plastic around the speaker grills. looks good and looks like it'll provide adequate protection from most anything short of extreme sports
The only thing that I don't like is that the back of the case has a slight curve to it versus the flat back of the UAG case. But I figure this is why the Unicorn Beetle doesn't feel so bulky.
I was planning on only using this case for when I'm doing yard work, hiking, or playing in the park but I'm happy enough with it at this point that I'll likely leave it on most of the time. It's a great value, even at the current price. I will watch the price closely on this and probably pick up another one if the price drops.
Here we go!
I popped out the plastic screen cover and removed the residue. Case still fits great with my Nillkin Glass screen protector!
The other case is the regular Unicorn Beetle so you can see the size difference.
Sorry delete
Yeah built in screen protector is not that bad but doesn't work well with a wet apply style below it as I had one on mine , they stick together. I'm going to order a glass one and pop out the plastic eventually but the built in is good enough for now

Man that is really nice.
Btw I have a Otterbox Commuter lol.
HTC UltimEight ?
i think if i throw this phone in this case at someone, someones gonna get hurt real bad.
Gestures
Got the case today, and seems like a pretty stout case. I removed my clear plastic as I have a SpartanShield screen protector on it. Customized it a little to my needs... Added mesh on the speakers. It didn't mess with the FFC much, but has a slight difference. I need this mesh as I'm a machinist, and have always had to dig out metal shavings. My main concern is since I've installed this case I havent had much luck with getting gestures to work. It seems like sometimes it doesn't work at all, and other times it seems fine. Didn't know of anyone has had this experience yet.
I haven't had any issues with the touchscreen, but I have a glass screen protector. Loving this case so far. Very well made. Way better than my Otterbox Commuter.

Did you remove the plastic screen protector before applying the case? If not, did the glass screen protector cause a gap between the plastic around the speakers?
Edit: Whoops never mind. just saw your previous post about the screen protector
I wanted to buy? what do you think?
this would be a great work case, mych more sturdy then just aplain clear case
My baby well protected even IR blaster work

amCase Hybrid Bumper Case

I've been using this amCase Hybrid Bumper case for around a week now. I LOVE it. I came from a similar supcase and this one just feels better in the hand in terms of grip and button tactility.
I also have the screen protector....very clear without the rainbow effect!
I suggest anyone try it out! It's currently only $6 on amazon for the case and screen protector each!

*pics coming soon*
Looks slim fitting round the edges then others of similar style. Does it add much bulk?

Nope, it is very slim in comparison to other cases like it. I was surprised at how good it is for the price
I got this case for .01 cents on Amazon thanks to someone on the forums here. I freakin love this case! I originally bought a case from Best Buy for $34.99.. PSSSHHH.. this blows that out of the water.. price? $2.00 included shipping! Scratches? None. The one at Best Buy was full of them right in the packaging even. It was the only case they had at the time since the M8 was brand new.
Adds a little bulk to the phone, but it's not bad.. it's not a crappy iPhone! Those things look like bricks.
Sadly doesn't seem to be available in UK

The term "bumper case" must not mean what it used to.

"Bumper" cases came in around the time of the iPhone 4 with antennagate. Purely a case which surrounds the edges only. No back.

No, these new phones dont really use antennas... and it's a case that protects from "bumps" now, i suspect. See-through back.

I was just defining what a bumper style case used to be. Even in later iPhone models where antennagate issues were fixed, Apples Bumper case spawned a whole line of similar style cases for iPhone and other handsets. Companies like Spigen and Draco continued to make bumper cases without rear sections, for design and for edge protection. Latter even made one for the M7 ( http://www.dracodesign.com/draco-one-aluminum-bumper-for-htc-one-m7-black/).
Now it appears a bumper case can mean anything. Bumper to me always suggests "around the edge or extremity". The bumper on a car is at the edges. The bumper in a pinball machine is an edge.
Phones still have antennas dude. They just might not be wrapped around the edges!

Yep. A bumper case with a back is just called a "case" LOL.

He he yup!
I kinda miss not having a "phone of the masses" as the range of cases for iPhone is virtually without limits. Spigen did some really nice true bumper cases made up of two parts one part soft bumper with a harder plastic outer bumper you slipped over the softer one.
Guess it'd be harder to create a bumper for the M8 given its slimmer profile and more rounded off edges. The iPhone was quite squared.

Back when I had my iPhone 4/4s I used to be amazed at how much people spent on their phones protection, it even got to the point where they were buying protection for their cases.
