[Q] Can't update/reinstall Google Maps - TouchPad Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I recently installed CM 9 Alpha 2 with Gapps ICS 4.0.3 11.12.22 everything seemed to work fine until I tried to update Google Maps from Android Marketplace. It didn't allow me to update and said that I have to uninstall the previous version. So I uninstalled it using Titanium without making a backup.
And then when I tried to install the new version from Marketplace, it returned an error stating that update is incompatible. And after a while it changed to "Incompatible with other application(s) using the same shared user ID".
I tried installing Google Maps 6.40 apk manually but the Installation aborts.
I tried going back to the original app by installing it through Gapps ICS 4.0.3 11.12.22 but the installation keeps aborting.
Do I need to completely clean and reinstall the ROM and Gapps? Is it the only possibility?
I'm at wit's end as what to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Try the gapps fixer utility. If that doesn't work you'll probably have to do a clean install. There's a later gapps you can flash, I think it's 031712, which works well with ics. Good luck.

Hi, i have similar problem. I am from time to time updating to a newer nightls and at the same time newer gapps package. And i don't have Google Maps for some time now.
I tried extracting newest gapps 20120317 and ther is no Google Maps inside, so its not a bug in istalling its simply not there!
The Google maps version that is on market has navigation, meaning it is for US only i think, thats why many of us cant get it from market it wont install(but it does work if someone else downloads it, and you install manualy on non US phone)
I know i can get the ICS compatible google maps apk from some ICS ROM that has it, i will try it later, but still it would be nice if they put it back to gapps package the next time they make it.

I have exactly the same error trying to install gmaps from market. "Incompatible with other application(s) using the same shared user ID". Apk installation fails
Flashing latest gapps (from cyanogen wiki) didn't help
Tried to flash gmaps separately from some zip found on internet but it didn't help too!
Can someone post latest gmaps zip? I'll try to flash it with cwm.
Thanks!

I have a CM9 nightly and I tried re-installing that gapps version. It didn't seem to fix my google maps though. I still get the same error while trying to install it from the market.

Google Maps Fix Problem

I recently updated to CyanogenMod 4.2.8 and installed the fixed version of Google Maps (found here http://www.androidspin.com/forum/index.php?f=179&t=72&rb_v=viewtopic) and followed the directions completely, now I have no more Google Maps, it doesn't show up as installed in my Market Downloads and when I try to re-download it, it gives me the installation error.
Any help is appreciated

Those instructions don't apply to the 4.2.8 CM ROM, at least I didn't have to go that route when I finally got 4.2.8 installed and booting. I was able to download and install google maps 3.3.1 from the marketplace without any issues.
And what install error are you getting?
Now if I could get the voice activated navigation stuff working, I'd be even happier.
I am having the same issue. I installed cyan's latest update and then flashed wes's 9r1 and my google maps is gone. When I tried downloading it from the marketplace it downloaded fine but hung up on the install... said "incompatable update"... any ideas?
I finally got it figured out... don't remember how... reflashed an old cyan rom and tried to down load it again... worked... maps are back!

This is what prevents me from DL the latest Cyanogen. I'm thankful for a custom rom but I rely on Google Nav too much to potentially not having it work.

Google Maps 4.1.0

Can not update from 4.0 to 4.1.0
Any hint?
Because it's a custom ROM. Maps have been tampered with so that Nav can work outside the US. So the upgrade cannot authenticate the version you currently use and make the install fail.
Just installed "3pei's DroidSense v0.2" on my magic.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=642125
I could install google maps 4.0.1 without any problem.
I managed to download it and install it on SuperHero v1.5. You just need to uninstall the old Google maps and download the new one. If you don't after the download it will fail at installation.
i download and install ok on my mytouch 3g. It's work Great.
there is 4.1.0 available in Market (europe) today with line in changelog

Installation fail
hi,
I tried to install directly with google maps 4.0.0 and failure has given me (I have version RAv1.6.3G)
I tried to uninstall google maps but only lets me remove the updates, not the application. Even so I tried to download version 4.1.0 of the Market but fail.
Does anyone have a link to the Google Maps 4.1.0 apk unsigned?
thanks!
remove google apps with ADB - search
thanks dk75,
I can finally uninstall google maps, so I can install the latest version of the market.
now the problem is that, being the original version, I no longer have the option to "navigate".
I'll wait to see if they have the unlocked version soon.
thanks.
what is strange Google did two 4.1.0 realases in 2 day - 4124 and 4126 and booth is called 4.1.0 in Market but when in notification 4126 was called 4.2.0 and that version did reboot to my phone durring update (and it was report earlier that it do that at the forum)
So again Google couldn't provide proper realase for it's application - lame.
The rebooting happened to me too. I also wondered about there being an update from 4.1.0 to 4.1.0.
Didn't notice about the 4124 and 4126 though.
What's the difference between both and how do you properly install the 4126?
Brut's 4.1.0 version is available now:

Google maps will not install after new rom

Thanks in advance for anyone who has any advice!
I recently updatated to a newer version of [email protected] on my nexus one and since then google maps will not install.
when updating to the newest version of the rom I whiped cache and dalvik and updated. everything works except google maps. Titanium backup does not even give me the option to reinstal it. google maps v4.20 is just listed as an uninstalled app. When i select to restore missing apps, it says completed yet google maps is still not installed.
Before this I was not able to install the newer maps V4.30 and i still cannot install it off the market.
To eliminate the rom as the culprit i installed the newest version of eViL n-One-sh0t and I still do not have google maps, nor will it install.
I am just looking for anyone with any sort of advice, i tried googling it and came up with nothing. one thing i have not done is whiped the phone back to stock then re flashed the rom. I was hoping to avoid this but if it is an obviose fix i will just do that
thanks again!

[Q] Not sure which gapps should be available after flashing custom ROM and gapps

Hi folks,
I've had a good search around but not managed to figure this one out. I've just flashed CM10.1 first nightly and gapps-jb-20130301 using cwm 6.0.3.2 on my M7 (Orange UK, HTCDev unlocked). I followed the instructions on codeworkx' thread, doing a factory reset/wipe after flashing.
Now the phone works great, and the gapps install obviously did something, because I have Play Store installed. However there don't seem to be any of the other standard Google apps installed. I had to install Play Music, GMail, Chrome, Maps, Youtube myself, and I can't find Car Home anywhere. I was expecting to have to install some of the apps which are available in the Play Store, but things like Car Home aren't available in there.
Does anyone know if this is supposed to be the case? Or is there some way I can check if the gapps install went wrong somewhere (there was no error message in the cwm console)?
Thanks in advance,
Jon

Hmmm... Looks like the right gapps but to be sure here is the link from CM http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-jb-20130301-signed.zip but looks good. You should have Gmail and youtube maps and navigation. Don't know for sure about car home but sounds right. Try reinstalling it. After wipe the cache. If it still isn't working try install Team Win Recovery and then flash gapps again and wipe cache.
Thanks for the help. I downloaded it again and the MD5 is the same as the one I installed. Tried flashing it again with the same results, so maybe it's something specific with this version. Anyway I'll carry on for now because the phone is setup and happy for a bit. Most of the Google apps I can get from Play Store anyway. Would like to get Car Home going at some point though. Next time I wipe the thing I'll try with Team WIn.
The newest gapps for 4.2.2 do not install any apps besides the play store and play services. That's it. Everything will need to be downloaded thereafter.

I see, so seeing as Car Home isn't in the store, any ideas where to find it? I found an older version in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1257329 but I presume there'll be a more updated one for 4.2.2 somewhere.]
Thanks for the info.
Just to follow this up, the package in the above link works fine so far.

I just looked at my phone (CM 10.1) and I have no Car Home.
Just checked on my mate's Nexus 4 with 4.2.2 and he doesn't have it either, so I guess that's that one answered

Hello,
I installed CM11 on my galaxy s gti9000. All went fine but I get some errors. I tried one nightly build and I constantly got this error: " Unfortunately media manager has stopped." Now with the latest build Download manager isn't working, neither does the gallery. I get a similar error. I can disable those apps but I'll not be able to download apps from google play store. I'm certain that I did something wrong as I'm a newbie in this stuff. Any help?

I think it was from 2.3 as the tutorial said. It was like a month ago so I'm not sure... Is there anyway I can downgrade to a good version and then install CM11 again? If yes, what version do you recommend me?

Actually, downgrade doesn't seem to be necessary in your case. I would on your place first try to install ROM again as "clean installation" and it should work well.
download latest CM11 nigtly ROM
download Gapps from the opening post
paste the files on the root folder of either internal or external SD card of your i9000
reboot to recovery mode
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache
wipe dalvik cache (under "advanced")
install zip CM11
install Gapps
reboot
enjoy
Any news about your CM11-Installation??? Does it work now with clean-install-tutorial ???

Hello, sorry for late response. I did a clean install as suggested with the 29 december nightly rom and everything works great now. Before the install, I was getting another error, something with android.process.media has stopped working and I deleted every media file on my internal sdcard because I had lots it (few hundreds I think). I don't know which solution worked but everything works fine now. Thx for the support.

No problem, thanks and great to hear that your CM11 now works as desgined :good:
The media-process sometimes makes problems, you can clean data and a few time later it will start again searching for media files ...this should work ...
