[Q] BSNL 3G problems heating - Samsung Galaxy Mini

Hello guys. Greetings to you all
i have a GALAXY MINI 7-8 months old. earlier i was using the sim cards which had 2G gprs and at that time, the phone gave me battery backup of about a day (24 hours with normal usage)
then i came to know about BSNL 3G sim and its data plan which was quite cheap and similar in price to 2G packs. so i switched to BSNL.
then my phone used to get heated during charging or during multitasking and also, the battery would quickly charge to 80-90 % (within 30 mins) and then drop to 15% in 30 mins
i searched for many forums to find the reason of heating etc etc. one day, i thought to remove the 3G sim and put back an sim with 2G network only.
TO MY SUPRISe, THE PHONE NEVER GOT HEATED AND EVEN MULTITASKING DURING CHARGING HAD NO EFFECT on the PHONE TEMPERATURE..
so guys, i want help in this topic.
1.] does SGM heat while using only 3G network?
2.] is the problem with the BSNL CARD only?
3.] have you ever faced problem of phone heating(above normal 50 degrees) during charging or multitasking?
4.] is my assumption that BSNL sim is the CULPRIT correct?
5.] how much backup did your SGM gave after 7-8 months? (mine gives only 5-6 hours of moderated usage. )
6.] any other tips or suggestions you would want to share.!
by the way, i have tried using cm7 rc5.7 , cm 7 rc0 v0.7 mebitek, mini mod, STOCK GB rom and froyo too. AND IN ALL THE ROMS, I FACE THIS PROBLEM.
and those who get help from my this thread, please say THANKS

battery drains quickly because of using 3g
3g uses different bands and also uses higher frequency that's why your mobile get heated
sim is not the culprit but using 3g is the problem
about quick charging try calibrating your battery

[Q] Need little help here (Battery and Screen on time, Is my battery original ?)

Hi there,
Some users posted that they get 7 - 9 hours of screen on time with stock battery. I usually get 3.5 to max 5 hours of screen on time depending applications I use. So I'm little skeptical that the retailer where I purchased GNote might have given me fake battery.
How much screen on time do you 'really' get with full single charge ? If possible could anyone of you please attach a photo (from both sides) of your original SGNote battery ?
Best regards.
I too get 5 hours only when am reading e books
Thanks for replying. Could you please post photo of your battery, both sides ?
I have been refreshing this thread for last 30 mins, thinking to kick hell out of the retailer.
I usually get 3.5-4.5 hours of screen on time as well.. the least I've got till now is around 3hrs.I'm on stock rom unrooted...and I'm certain that my battery is original!!!
WTF I'm not able to upload pics!!!even after the picture loads 100% xda is stuck at waiting for response!! ?? :banghead:

Those who squeeze out 7-9 hrs don't use their phone at all. Your usage is quite normal.
Id say your 3.5 to 5 is about what I get too, so totally normal in my opinion.
im getting the same 3 to max (rarely) 4.5 hours screen on , normal usage with wifi and 3g on all the time....which is very good compared to my desire HD....
i am 100% convinced that this is the original battery ,i think those who get 7 hours time have everything else switched off (sync , 3g , wifi, lowest brightness , screenfilter app ...etc)...
so dont u worry about it

Especially bad low signal battery life

My house has terrible reception in general (T-Mobile!), but I've never had a phone drain THIS quickly due to searching for signal.
I've set it to 2G only (I only get EDGE at my house anyway, THANKS OBAMA) and it seems to be helping.
Is the Nexus 5 or Kit Kat in general aggressive with searching for 3G/4G signal in anyone else's experience?
Like I said, other phones haven't had this issue.
Cheers

I have terrible signal too and standby time is horrible. I'll try using faux kernel and report back.
I have same setup as you except my network settings are set to LTE even though there is no lte in my area. Not saying i have great battery life, but it isnt 49% looking for signal.

I have this SAME problem, and the signal on my phone is terrible compared to my last LTE phone.
same problem at work...... I dont know how 1 place can go from lte to 4g to edge all with in a small building with 1 floor. First day while being at school i got 3 hours screentime on lte, today at work i got like 1.5 hours.
27% over 12 hours with one bar seems just fine to me..
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
Mine reacts different with st att. I get 1 bar of lte in my home when I force lte. If I do auto switch gsm/lte it opts to 3 to 4 bars of hspa, which of course I prefer at home on Wi-Fi.
I've used tmobile for most of my smart phone life and always used tasker to switch to edge when connected to Wi-Fi. Saved a lot of battery. So your experience has been what I normally get.

I have T-mobile as well and my house is in a bad spot. I found that with my note 2 I could use the dialer debug codes to manually set the phone to what ever freq and service I wanted. I found this to greatly help my battery as the modems for T-mo are particularly bad at determining the correct type of service to use and needlessly killing battery.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk 2
At least I'm not alone. It's just annoying to have to switch to 2G only when I go home. -.-

Are you guys using wifi while at home? If not then you really should. It generally makes the data modem go into a lower power state if wifi is connected saving battery. Thats how it is on my VZW galaxy nexus.

I do use WiFi at my house.
Sent from my Nexus 5
I have full data bars in my area. If I turn WiFi off and just use data the battery drains significantly faster.
I am new to T-Mobile, I was with Verizon and my house on Verizon barely gets LTE. My galaxy nexus never got LTE but with T-Mobile my Nexus 5 has 3-4 bars of LTE. So I've been using LTE lately and my battery life has been great. I get 5 + hours screen on time with LTE.
Of course Verizon says my area has great 4g service too but anybody who has came to my house either gets 1 bar of LTE or 3g on Verizon. Trying to acquire a signal will of course eat battery though but I will tell you what I am very happy with T-Mobile so far, a lot better then I expected.
I am happy with the battery life and signal strength where I live and travel to.
I noticed this issue today as well... hoping for a solution...

Like I said, manually switching to 2G-only when you're in the affected area removes the problem, but you'll need to switch it back to LTE when you go anywhere with a better connection time. Settings > More > Mobile Networks > Network Mode.
If you're worried about battery life. There's a few things you can do. I found that turning off my "Ok Google" hot word detection increased battery life immensely. Also try turning off Google Now sometimes. I realize that the highlight of this phone more or less was Google Now, but if you don't need it for a certain period of time, turn it off. Doesn't hurt to try.
Try out Faux kernel also. On his test 7 (I think he just put out test 8) I was on track to get 60 hours of standby time. I'll try and dig up the screenshot..hopefully I didn't loose it one of my many wipes..

Do you mean Franco? Faux kernel is only on 002 beta 2, Franco's is on test build 8.
I had this problem and I sent my phone back and got a new one. The new phone doesn't do it at all just got a day and a half with over 4 hours screen time. I think some of the nexus 5's are a bit dodgy.

Yes. Sorry, I had flashed both kernels and decided on Franco for now because it seems he's had the most progress so far. He also received his own device today so he should be able to get even more things done!
Looking forward to both of their kernels!

I've only had mine two weeks but the review looks good.
Hi. Nice review. Which model of note 4 do you have?
Good review. Agree with you on most things, just not about battery life. I think should be better for a device of this level. We have to turn off a lot of things to make it last an entire day and night with heavy use.
I am having snapdragon version of the note 4 910G.
Regarding battery life , with mobile data it doesn't hold good but on wifi i do get extremely good hours.
My battery life on WiFi is between 4.5 and 5 hrs (SOT) and on 3 to 4 hrs on 3G. Lasts at least 13 to 14 hrs with heavy use. M happy cuz my note 3 lasted only 8 hrs with 2.5 to 3 hrs of SOT. I wud give it a huge thumbs up!
I have exynos variant though and I haven't experienced any lags... maybe I haven't pushed it hard enough.. but I like to multitask a lot. . So.. maybe exynos is better?? #JustSaying

My note 3 (n900p) has about 4.5 SOT. and usually last a day. Note 4 from op just have average SOT nowadays. I would call it OK but Not so great.
My g2 use to have 6-8hr SOT . and my M8 was about 6 hr SOT.
Hopefully custom roms would make battery life battery better for note 4
Great that u not having lags !!!
Lags are not constant but occasional.. basically with the apps such as s health and flip board where it takes visible amount of time to load the app .
And sometimes icons vanishing from screen which gets fixed on next reboot

Slightly unrelated but my battery life improved dramatically with S-health disabled.

For today I've disabled s health. And used normal charge instead of fast charge. Fast charge easily lasted me 16 to 18 hrs with 4/4.5 hrs of SOT (combo of WiFi and 3G)
Will post at the end of the day how it goes.. better or same. Cheers

Its completely up to you.
I have always rooted my device immediately after buying them.
It gives you power to try and run the vanilla android
also some bits like overlocking and other de-bloating things.
Again, It voids your warranty and its totally up to you that u need to do it or no.

After two months of use, the only thing that stands out as a negative is the metal bezel. It's soft and poor in quality.
I've had too many phones to list but out of all the ones I've dropped this is the only one showing signs of damage.
I really mean that, it's got nick's and dents all around. Small yes, but the edges look bent because all the small dents look like it's rippled.
The phone is great, but in retrospect I wish the frame was plastic.

Screen on time

It's amazing how much we actually use our phones in a given day, especially when we watch "videos"! Rate this thread to express how many hours of screen-on time you can get on the HTC U11 before depleting the battery.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
My best screen on time ever with this device. At least 5h of SoT
my SOT varies from no less than 4 up to 7h+ when at home on WIFI.
I consistently get 6-7 hours. Always wifi at home due to my bad cell coverage. My old Nexus 5x used to get 3-4 hours with roughly the same usage and all the same apps.

Mine is on dual sim, always on 4G LTE,
Very good signal strength in my area,
At 50% brightness with auto brightness ON.
This is my SOT after my first full charge(from 100% to 1%)
On a heavier usage which included
Almost 2hrs of talktime over speaker phone(I don't like using earpiece)
1.5 hours of YT, 1.5 hrs of Amazon prime streaming,
A lot of Instagram, Twitter, WhatsApp, XDA app and other such apps as it's a holiday for me today.
No Facebook at all.
No games whatsoever.
Over 8 hours of sot.
I'm happy as they say it gets better after 3-4 cycles of charging are done.
Best I had so far was 1 day 3 or 4 hours time with 7 half hours sot
