[ROM] I9220 ZC LP5 ---> N7000 [REPACK] - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Android Development

THIS IS OUTDATED, BAD, AND DANGEROUS. YOU SHOULD NOT FLASH THIS. LINKS REMOVED. THREAD CLOSED.
Here is the I9220 ZC LP5 repack for N7000. Includes CF-Root for LP5, CWM, etc.
This is a pretty dangerous flash. Personally, I would just skip this firmware altogether, but there is currently no way to revert. If you continue, you may be insane. I wish I never flashed this crap.
WARNINGS:
- Flash at your own risk
- This is a WIPE firmware, you will lose your data
- This firmware cannot be flashed with Mobile ODIN
- This firmware flash updates your bootloaders, and changes the identity of the phone to I9220. It is currently not possible to revert, and likely will not be until the official N7000 firmware is out. Even then, it is not sure. (This is about reverting bootloaders, you can still flash a GB firmware (mostly), but you're stuck with these bootloaders)
- Bootloaders are flashed, this always creates a chance for FULL HARD BRICK. Only JTAG or mobo replacement can fix!
- The firmware first boots in Chinese
- For N7000 only, do not flash this on I9220 !
- Boot partitions are not available to Android, this means Triangle Away does NOT work to remove triangle and/or reset flash counter
Instructions: USE AT YOUR OWN RISK
- Unpack the I9220_ZC_LP5_REPACK.zip file
- Extract ODIN (yes, use THIS version!)
- Reboot your note into download mode
- Flash:
--- Repartition enabled
--- Q1_20110914_16GB.pit as PIT
--- Q1_EUR_bridge_DDI_init_bootloader.tar as PDA
- Disconnect USB
- Exit ODIN
- Pull the battery
- Put the battery back in
- It will appear that your Note is now completely dead
- Boot into download mode (VolDown+Home+Power) (you will see only black screen)
- Count to 10
- Press VolUp
- Count to 10
- Start ODIN
- Plug in USB
- Flash:
--- Repartition NOT enabled
--- I9220LP5_ROOTED.tar as PDA
- Reboot
- Count to 10
- Recovery will complain a bit
- Press power to boot Android
- There may be some error messages during first boot, just press the popup buttons until it's done
- Yeah, it's in Chinese. I advise going to Settings and changing your language to English
- Copy gapps-6.0-IML74L.zip to /sdcard
- Open CWM app (make sure sdcard is not mounted to your computer!), and select Flash update (not any of the other options, easy to get confused!), and select the gapps file.
- Device will reboot and install gapps (Market, YouTube, etc)
- Done

Is it such a bad release?
I don't think we can expect another leak for another 4 weeks

After flashing this rom can we flash a AOSP based rom and we have the new Kernel 1,4ghz ?

Thanks bro ... let see want we can go from here waiting

Will you upload also only root kernel. Not going to flash this rom because n7000 ics is just around the corner. Thanks

So it seems that once bootloader is flashed with i9220 one, it cannot be reverted
Why is this happening chainfire? If we can flash the bootloaders we should also be capable of.reflashing it with n7000 bootloaders am I right?

Probably a new signature check, which causes the I9220 bootloaders to reject old N7000 bootloaders you try to flash back. Samsung has pulled similar **** before, for example on the P1000 (first Galaxy Tab model). I do expect the official N7000 ICS bootloaders will be flashable, though, but obviously we're going to have to wait and see.

Thanks for clarifying cf. So those who are in LP1 can easily revert to n7000 gb stock via odin right? coz i havent gone back to gb roms after the first leak.. just want to make sure before i make a mess of anything again lol.

I don't know... I never flashed the bootloaders for LP1, so... if you didn't either, you should be able to flash back to GB stock, yes. (IF YOU ARE NOW ON LP1, NOT IF YOU ARE ON LP5. READ PEOPLE!)

Thanks cf! Since you have it installed what are your impressions? Anything new? Parts from "premium" package ?

Chainfire do you think the kernel is good to work at 1.4Ghz on 4.0.4 rom?
is this zimage is root and have cwr compatibility?
thanks for information (i don't whant break my phone ^^)

[Q] new note user....a little help...

To anyone that can point me in the right direction....
Just got my note this morning - itching to get it rooted...ive had a fair few phones in the past (just coming from a sensation) which i rooted and reflashed nearly every week. used to have a galaxy tab which i also rooted etc etc so im ok with odin, adb etc etc.....the only problem i have is where to start - theres a million roms to choose from and im not sure where to go
my kernel is 2.6.35.7-N7000XXLA6-CL907341
baseband is N7000XXLA4
Can anyone point me in the right direction for the tools that i need access to...
thanks to anyone that can help
Comfy
I can see that mine isnt directly rootable and know that ive got to go to an older rom but which one??
You can have any older ROM, listed here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997
select any from directly rootable ROM, I am suggesting this one
N7000XXKL3 ------ 2.3.6 2011 December-------- N7000ODDKL1 --------------------India
as this is non wipe N rootable, you won't lose data.
Alternately, select from 4th line of my signature, which is modified pre rooted ROM
Well, first and foremost thanks for replying so fast! it'd be nice to get this flashed as soon as possible -ive got no data to keep as its new to me so ive got yours downloading now (take about another hour from what i can see) - so, once ive got your rom is it just a case of using oding to upload it (its a while since ive had a tab) so im a bit rusty.....+ i take it the next step is CWM?? is that right??
sorry - all the questions - obviously im downloading your interim rom to get it rooted - whats the best ics rom at the moment....?

There is no best rom as they all differ. I'd suggest Imilka's AOSP rom ( if you like AOSP that is ). It's fast, clean and stable.

yes, just use PC odin to flash ROM, if you have any query, refer to post #2 of thread, i have mention in previous msg.
yeah, next is to get CWM
And, finally you can update to latest ROM by using CWM to keep root intact.

Sorry, I can't help in this matter much, as I have never used any custom ROM.
??????????
What is "not directly rootable"? You can flash CF/Speedmod/Franco/Abyss kernel over any stock rom to get root. You are anyways asking to downgrade ROM using PC ODIN which is going to increase the counter. Why not flash only one of these kernels using PC ODIN?
From the Moderator,
Please clarify your statement. It is not entirely accurate. The Phone needs to be unlocked 1st before any rooting can occur. Secondly, Not All kernels will provide rooting, UNLESS they are written and configured to do so.
People's knowledge level in XDA are from total noob to expert, so it is highly advisable to provide more succinct complete postings e.g. do A then B then etc. That way, people do not misunderstand your posting.

Since how long you are on N7000 forum? looking you are since long on XDA (just seen U R developer)
May i have not uttered more thn three four words, if it was stated by newbie.
When you are 'recognized developer' it puts lot weight on every word you spoke. Hope you can consider to review again your advise.
Can you confirm once again to your statement?
Flash stock ROM using PC odin raise counter?
Flashing CF/Franco/Abyss with PC odin, won't raise counter?
I do believe, your statement is completely wrong. PC odin never raise counter, if you flash STOCK ROM. But any custom Kernel you have described, if flashed with PC Odin will certainly raise counter. Though you are recognized developer, but seems you are new to N7000 develpment.
I havent gone anywhere - still havent got your rooted file - im about 70% of the way there - this has got to be the slowest download ever!!
At last - ive got your rooted file - just extracted it and theres just one file in there - i thought with odin you had individual files....how do i load this one on....

You're 100% wrong. PC Odin won't raise the binary counter as long as it's a stock ROM. The OP needs to flash an older stock ROM so he can root and then do whatever he wants to do. The binary counter will get raised if he flashes a custom ROM with PC Odin.
PC Odin: Stock ROM's
Mobile Odin and CWM: Stock and custom ROM's
ok - i got there in the end - Firstly i like to thank Dr.Ketan for pointing me in the right direction.....i have a few post-type questions.....
i flashed the rom you suggested (the one that was already rooted) - while it went on ok - while it was in that state i lost the ability to use the keyboard - when i type anything in the key would flash up but the it came up with "null" everytime i hit a key...not too much of a problem as it was only a temporary rom.
Also when i flashed the ics rom you suggested - imilka - it flashed.....then at the boot screen it kept freezing (at the boot animation) - i popped the battery a few times and then it eventually started.....and its been fine since....anyone else ever had that/is that the norm...?
Finally - obviously ive removed the stock rom and im now on ics....is there a way i can download all of the stylus apps and put them back in (one of the reasons i bought a note was to use the stylus - bit gimmicky but it would be nice to mess around with it)
Also - i had to install clockwork mod from the market (i have a paid app version of it) - to actually get into clockwork mod....how to i get to cwm from a cold boot - i read that you had to hold down the vol up and down and hit the power - mine just boots - unless im doing something wrong but, when its fully booted i can go to cwm and restart from there and i can go in.....
Sorry about all the questions but, its a great phone, just want to start messing around with it...new toy!
Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction.
Comfy
Keyboard null issue is common, that usually manage by flashing other rom or with flashing csc, but you have manage it so nothing to discuss.
booting error is routinely termed as bootloop, also common, particularly switching between gb n ics rom. Usually it solved with wipe cache n wipe data.
Sorry abt stylus appl, i have no expirence of ics, as i never installed any custom rom.(n it was not me suggested ics b'coz m noob for custom rom)
Market version of cwm is totally different n won't work on note.
there is custom kernel for note, which having same functiin like cwm.

ICS STUNNER ---> ICS STOCK premium suite??

Anyone got a easy step by step guide to go from ICS Stunner to the GERMAN STOCK OFFICIAL that is floating around in the forums???
Do i have to go back to gingerbread and then do upgrade or is there a easier process to go from stunner to stock Germany?
Thanks in advance i am sure there are others that are thinking this same thing as the ICS STunner was the popular rom with ICS

Just use good old mobile odin and flash the rom, make sure you use the wipe settings to
i was also on ics stunner 1.4.26.1 i just downloaded the stock rom copied the tar.md5 file and flashed it through mobile odin pro, these steps worked for me, but however there is a problem with my samsung keyboard whatever keys i type it only shows null null ... changed it to swype keyboard there is no problem with swype but however there is a problem with samsung keyboard in this build
so basically install mobile ODIN, Put the tar.md5 file on sd card, point mobile odin to the md5 file and use wipe settings and thats it?
sounds easy downloading the file now hope it works if i am wrong in this procedure or if anyone can add extra things i should do before i flash let me know thank you!!!
Do not use mobile odin to flash from a rom that uses the leaked kernel repack;
Use PC odin.
You risk permanently bricking your note.

You can use Mobile Odin but it's not recommended if you're on a leaked ROM/kernel. Use PC Odin and flash it from there.
Just follow the short "guide" here.

Flash the ICS ROM that is already prerooted form this thread, it's stock ICS with only root.. Flash it with PC Odin and you're good to go..
Ok guys here goes.
I downloaded one of the stock ICS roms. For Premium Suite make sure its bigger than 600MB. There is various sources.
I flashed using PC Odin (V1.85) then did a full wipe after flashing. Its all running buttery smooth now. Enjoy!
(First boot will take a while. Just wait it out. Any longer then 15 mins, get worried!)

Note : If you have i9220 bootloader, dont use pc odin, mobile odin will work. There is no way to remove bootloader till now .Chaifire have brick his device due to this. AFAIK i9220 repack LP5 only have this bootloader

WRONG
I am talking about kernels, not bootloaders.
If you use mobile odin, it will use the bugged kernel to flash the mobile odin kernel, therefore risking bricking your phone.
The risk is a lot smaller then using CWM recovery to flash a rom, but it is still there.
I do not know which extra steps to take if you have a different bootloader.

Do not confuse people with incorrect information.
Only those who somehow managed to flash Chainfire's original LP5 repack have said
bootloaders.
Since that flashing procedure is so complicated, I doubt there's more than 1-2
users who managed to do that.
And don't use red fonts to post panicky and false warnings.

[Q] Galaxy Note GT N7000 eMMC Bug/Kernel Related Question

Hi, I have an international varient of the Galaxy Note GT N7000 which using Chainfire's Got Brick App v1.1 says:
eMMC Chip
Type: VYL00M
Revision: 0x19
Verdict: Danger! This eMMC chip is "Known" to have the brick bug!
I once had installed a custom Kingdroid ROM v3 and wiped it but it had resulted in a Hardbrick/Superbrick so i had to take it Samsung Service Center to get it fixed. They have repaired it and given me back the handset with the Stock ICS ROM. Here are the details:
Model Number: GT-N7000
Android Version: 4.0.3
Baseband Version: N7000XXLPT
Kernel Version: 3.0.15-N7000JPLPD-CL643396
[email protected]#3
SMP PREEMPT Thu May 31...
Build Number: IM74K.JPLPD
Now i have done some researched and found that this bug is only triggered with kernels (ICS stock & leaked) which have the eMMC_Erase function/command. GB kernels are not known to have this erase function so they are safe.. Also the two safe kernels are franco r3 and speedmod k3 (Correct me if im wrong). Can anyone please guide me on the following:
1) Should I flash Stock Gingerbread OR ICS Kernel(franco/speedmod)?
2) Should I use Recover or ODIN?
3) Plz Provide the links for the Kernels - Franco R3 & Speedmod K3 which are safe?
4) Will the above Kernels provide root access?
5) Is abyss kernel safe (because it supports GPU overclock)?
6) Can i flash an ICS kernel over a Gingerbread ROM?
For answering please answer in a similar numbered way so that it is easy to read and understand for me as well as future audience! Thanking everyone who takes time to read and answer!
I use Speedmod kernel and i confirm that it is safe (for me at least anyway) Im using CleaNote ICS ROM, So I would suggest you also use speedmod kernel,
You Flash it in Odin, It will give you CWM and Root too !
Ive attached the kernel to the post for you.
Abyss kernel is safe, But its for GB ROMs only, You are on ICS so it wont work.
I dont know if you can flash ICS kernel over GB ROM, However, Your are on ICS so you shouldnt need to worry about that.
don't really want to hijack your thread an i dont really want to make a whole new thread for a simple question.
as a noob, im just wanting to know, if i update my stock gb to stock ics via software update, are there still chances of this emmc bug/brick thats going on?
and the battery drain issues, do they only exist in custom roms or does it exist in stock roms too?
cheers.

Thanks for the confirmation mate, one more thing to ask you: Is the speedmod kernel faster than the stock ICS kernel? Is there any flaws such as battery drain/WIFI problem with it? Also does it support GPU OC? Thanks once again for your help!

Firstly get your Galaxy Note checked using Chainfires App (Gotbrick v1.1). If the verdict says "Danger" only then does your device have this problem. My Galaxy Note (Rev 0x19) had this problem and came with GB out of the box and i upgraded it to ICS through Samsung Kies and it worked fine. So i do not think that while updating to ICS via Kies will cause this problem. As of what i know it is triggered when a command eMMC errase is triggered when either doing a factory reset or wipe through recovery. The update as such did not brick my device, however this does not mean it cannot brick yours. I am no expert on this so be a little cautious while updating. I would suggest stick to GB until Samsung Releases a safe stock ICS ROM with a safe Kernel. Cheers!
really easy
1: (optional ) in GB do factory reset (after you have made a backup with TB)
2: put phone in Download mode.
3: use PC odin flash STOCK ICS rom
4: reboot device let it load
5: put device back into download mode
6: use PC ODIN flash Speedmod k3-3
7: reboot
8: launch CWM and tell it to reboot in cwm recovery
9: load your custom rom of your choice
i HIGHLY recommend doing ONLY THE FACTORY RESET WIPE data and cache in GB before you start anything.
ONCE you are in ICS and have successfully loaded speedmod or franco's kernel then it is safe to do a factory wipe if you want. but ONLY after one of those 2 Kernels are on your device.
EMMC BUG. is affected in all N7000 Devices only . only the devices sent to the USA have the revision the non 0x19 bug .

Yes, this bug is known to trigger usually when you do a wipe using the recovery. However there have been some cases when doing a factory reset via the settings has also resulted in a brick. However if you stay away from recovery and do not intend to doing flashing/wipes then i guess you should be ok. And it is a matter of time before Samsung Comes up with a solution. They are said to be working on this bug already. I have the N7000 which i bricked once while flashing and then wiping but i got it repaired since i had warranty. Since then i have stayed away from wiping or installing any custom roms so the device has not given any problems. Hope this info helps! Cheers!

1. Afaik yes
2. NO, you'll brick, flash from GB kernel, I know some have done from abyss.
3. No. CM based not compatible with Touchwiz framework.

I have a quick ( hopefully) question about the brick bug. I already asked but I think a mod must have deleted the whole thread, even though the thread was about the brick bug and I think I might have been bringing a new way ( well for some anyway) to flash safely to new ROMs.
So anyway, I have a 'safe' kernel ( speedmod), and I want to try out 4.0.4 stock ROM. I have extracted the stock ROM zip and the tar file inside. In there is the Zimage.
Do I just delete the Zimage then re-zip and flash from CWM?
OR Do I have to replace the Zimage with another, 'safe', Zimage ( for example just put the zimage in there from speedmod because I want to keep that for now). Does there NEED to be A Zimage there, or will it work fine without one. I don't want to start flashing the ROM and it get stuck half way through.
If it will work this way then this might be a fairly easy way for anybody to flash any new ROM they want. They'll just need to get a safe kernel on there in the first place.

Hiya, yep, you can just delete the zimage file, no need to replace, it will just skip writing that partition.

Gave that a go last night and I must not be doing something right. Either I need to re-zip it differently or I need to use something other than CWM (mobile odin?) because it's just aborting before it actually starts flashing anything.
Suppose I could always flash the separate elements on pc odin?

Try mobile odin. If you point to the tar, it should load all the components. You can then review which components are being flashed.

Hi everybody
I have three questions if You can help me
1- Are speedmode and franco Kernels the only safe kernels for stock ICS?
2- Can I flash CM9 from stock ICS or it is safer to do it from GB rom?
3- Can I flash CM9 kernel for stock rom?
Thanx in advance

1. Add goku, dafuq, gl-notecore and abyss42 (GB) to your list.
2. Only do it from a GB firmware or at least a GB kernel like abyss42. SPECIFIC instructions per firmware is listed for a reason. Follow those instructions to the letter.
3. No.

Stock rom in a zip? Are you sure you are nit flashing a custom rom? Point us to the file/thread please.
If it is a custom rom, the it is meant to be via CWM.
1. Flash abyss42
2. Reboot recovery
3. Do your wipes
4. Flash.
Im sure there is a specific instruction on where you got that file. Or better yet, go to dr. Ketans thread and get your stock rom from there.

It's just the standard rom file from sammobile. It does come as a zip you know. If you unzip it, then use rar on it you can see all the bits. I thought if I just put a different zimage in there it would just go ahead and use that, but didn't seem to like it after I zipped it all back up again.
Tonight I've ended up getting chainfires excellent CF-Root kernel.Flashed that through odin, over my speedmod kernel.
Put just the factoryfs part of the stock rom zip onto the SD card and flashed that using the cwm app that CF-Root installs for you.. Now have CF-Root kernel and 4.0.4 firmware.
If you don't already have a "safe" kernel then I dunno what the brick chances would be, but since I had a safe one already I thought it couldn't hurt to try it out.
The reason I haven't flashed the hidden, cache, model and sbl parts of the zip is that simply they wouldn't fit on my SD card If it behaves funny or I can make space then I'll try the rest too. And the reason I didn't flash the zimage from the zip should be fairly obvious. Because I don't want a brick
EDIT: I managed to clear some space on the SD and flashed the rest of it. Seems to be working ok, so far anyway. I'm hoping the battery issues from 4.0.3 will be a little better. This is a really good way of doing it all as you can just swap out a potentially bad kernel for one that has been 'protected' by having te emmc cap erase turned off.

Safely go from Official stock Gingerbread to Official Samsung ICS ?

Ok, I hate to be a noob, but I feel that I have to in this case.
I just got a new unlocked G-Note and it has has gingerbread. However I want to install ICS, Been trying to research through the threads myself, but its overwhelming for someone who hasn't been here to follow the threads from the beginning
I would appreciate some advice or steps to safely go from bone stock G-note to Official Samsung ICS

Help/warnings are welcome
Hey man! Seems like you want to upgrade from GB to ICS on the Galaxy Note. GB is far more stable and bug free on the Galaxy Note. This is one device where upgrading to ICS is more of a downgrade. So to be honest i would recommend that you stay on GB until samsung get out a stable ICS ROM for the Note.
Firstly what i would recommend you to do is download chinfires app called Gotbrick.(Google it) Install the app on your Note on GB and see the verdict. The verdict will tell u if your Note has the eMMC brickbug. If the verdict tells "Danger" then upgrading to ICS is equal to suicide because all stock ICS kernels are known to have the eMMC_Erase functionality which will cause this bug to superbrick your phone.
However if you still want to take the rist then the steps to upgrade are: you can try the connecting your phone to your PC and run kies. It will automaticly check for updates and install them. Another method is using the phone itself. Goto Settings>About Phone>Software Update and check for updates. It should update to ICS automatically.
If none of the above work then use the ODIN method:
For the ODIN method the steps are:
1- Register and Download the Stock ICS for your region from here:http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3&t=1&o=1&m=GT-N7000&r=-1#modelsa
2-After download you should get a zip file. Unzip the content. You will get a .tar.md5 file.
3- Next get ODIN v1.83 (download it if u dont have it)
4- Make sure you have Samsung Drivers Installed on your PC and put your phone in download mode(Volume Down + Home + Power) and connect it to your PC using USB Cable
4- Then run ODIN as admin and then click the PDA button and choose the .md5 file you extracted. Make sure only Auto Reboot and F.Reset Time are checked in ODIN. Then click the start button and Let it flash the new Firmware.
After flash complete you should have Stock ICS 4.0.3 on your Note. What i would recommend is to flash a safe ICS kernel like Speedmod N7000 k3 on it to prevent it from getting bricked.
If this helped please click the Thanks button! Cheers!
Sorry to be a noob,
but i couldn't get a download link for the *chinfire's app Gotbrick* to check whether my SGN is not from *DANGER* to Stock ics update. =(
Looks like it's "Chainfire"
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1693704
OK, here's my experience with upgrading to ICS. I've had my note for about 2 months and have been following the forum trying to learn. It's very confusing to me and I was afraid to do anything so I did nothing. I live in Melbourne, FL and use Straight Talk. My note was purchased from Newegg and had a Brazil build number. Several days ago someone posted that Brazil was now on the "update to ICS" list, so I thought I'd check it out with kies. I use linux so I had to boot into my Windows 7 Ultimate OS(ugh). I opened kies and it said it could be updated to newer version, so I updated kies. Then I pluged in my note and low and behold it said update version available! I sweated a little and decided to go for it. It updated smooth as silk with no problems and now I have ICS! I have all the apps with all the data I had before update.
The new ICS is much quicker and smoother than GB, the difference is immediately noticable.
All the phone info changed to new numbers(android, baseband, kernel version and build number) and I didn't think to write it down so I can't post what it was. Anyway hope this info helps someone.
I agree that the update makes the UI quicker but however it makes the brick bug effective in the ICS kernel. With GB although the UI is slower, there is no risk of brick bug.
So its ur choice to choose between a relatively slower UI with no brick bug Or a faster UI but risking your phone. I recommend installing a custom GB rom which is stable and fast.

Hey, so I got really excited when ics came out and instanly went out to flash the repack (stupid, I know) and I checked and I do have the brickbug. So I know that I shouldn't flash using clockwork or do a factory reset and I wanna take your advice and flash a safe kernel like Abyss.
So I just wanna know if I should just flash it through clockwork and then I'll be ok right? My phone's performance and everything wouldn't be affected right? Also would prefer rather not downgrading to GB.
Thanks!
So yea, I do have the bug, but before I found out, I flashed ICS. Panic when I found out I could brick my phone, then flashed back
Question: Even though I have the bug, if I flash Stock Indian ICS, then Speedmod, will I be safe?

Ok firstly i would like to say that if you do have the bug and are already on ICS then instead of downgrading to Gingerbread, try to flash a safe kernel. But stay away from Clockworkmod. Do not flash using CWM. Instead use ODIN to flash any kernel from the following:
Speedmod kernel
Franco Kernel
CM9 Knightlies
The best of these kernel is Speedmod kernel which has the best performance and best battery life. I have already made a tutorial on how to do this, just follow the steps on the tutorial found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o5K5Wm_201Y

Before you flash anything tell me what are you running currently? are you running a stock ICS or a Custom ROM? If you are running stock ICS then you can easily flash Speedmod kernel with ODIN and you will be safe. You can see my tutorial here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o5K5Wm_201Y

Currently on a leaked LPY ICS and I have the dangerous kernel. I'm suffering from poor battery life at the moment.
What do you suggest I do? Should I go back to GB or give a new kernel a try?
If I flash a new kernel over LPY will it be safe to perform a factory reset?

[Q] Captivate 2.2 Froyo to X-Bean

Re: [ROM][4.1.1][PORT] X-Bean **2.0** (fast, stable & superfunctional)
Been browsing for an update on AT&T Captivate SGH-I897 Froyo 2.2 and now on T-Moble
Unlocked, rooted with SOC and CWM recovery..
Read thru development on X-Bean **2.0**
Understood to get: x-bean 1.1Base.zip / gapps-jb20121011-signed.zip / BUT not sure which kernal!!
Early the thread states Devil 1.0.4vc but most recently suggests alternative of semaphore 2.0.3c.
Am I correct in thinking both work, just the semaphore is newer?
Thanks

TiBu is my personal fav.
UPDATE... Again, thanks BWolf56!
AT&T Captivate on FROYO 2.2. OneClickRoot, CWM Recovery V2.5.1.2
Did ROM backup, TiBu backup, EFS, APN, Contacts etc
Installed/Flashed:
ROM X-Bean1.1 base.zip
gapps-jb-2012101-signed.zip
Semaphore_jb_2.0.3c.zip
landscape_fix.zip
Phone booted up fine initially, would always revert to landscape view, back button was now the home button.
Could not find any of my backups. "UI" kept crapping out; "Unfortunately UI is not responding" Think that's what it said!
Had to click OK and it was back until i touched anything and kept happening...
Did Advanced Restore -> CWM Recovery of: System, Data, Cache, ext/sd
Phone rebooted.... Stuck on AT&T logo screen, charging pinwheel shows but doesn't move.
Cannot get into recovery.. managed to get into "dowload mode"
tried i897UCJF6-final-OCD-REVO.zip loaded on computer, phone connected in download mode,
loaded PIT file only as the zip had no PAD file....... NO SUCCESS
If I proceeded in a NOOB fashion, it's because I am so I'll take my licks Lol
Any help would be appreciated!
Figured it best to just get back to stock 2.2, maybe even earlier since I wouldn't have the 3e recovery
problem not being able to install from OTHER sources. Then TRY again after brushing up!!!!!!!!

Did you flash a I9000 ROM? If so, you need the I9000 bootloaders.
Also to downgrade android version, you have to use Odin (i suggest kk4 without bootloaders if you already have the gb ones, which can be found in the stickies).
Make sure you follow the full instructions next time to avoid issues like that.

Ahhh, fello Canadian i see!
You may be correct thinking i have I9000 "JB"? bootloaders!, in the original
thread : Aceofspades replied to a member question stating: "Port means that this
rom is originally made for i9000 and made it to work for captivate."
Should I assume I've flashed an I9000 Rom? and now have JB bootloader?
Thinking back, I did not wipe before going back and using recovery! Not sure that was the problem
but it was on reboot after restoring CWM/system. data. cache etc that the phone rebooted and ended up
in a continual cycling of the ATT logo screen!
Big question now is how do I do to remedy my situation!!
NOTE...I have made a JIG and can get into "download Mode" now
From this point on I'll document my every move in order to be able to provide
the exact procedure I went through... might be more helpful !!
I know I know... NOOB! Lol
PS, is an alternative to use Kies Mini and update to Gingerbread?

First thing: don't use kies at all!
There are no JB bootloaders for the cappy, just eclair, froyo and GB. If the ROM is a port, you'll most likely have to flash the I9000 gb bootloaders but I'd suggest finding another ROM to start with (like CM). Playing with bootloaders is the only thing that will make your phone a paper weight if something goes wrong.
Also, bootloaders aren't included in roms for safety measures. That being said, you can run ICS and JB roms just fine with the GB bootloaders.
As for what comes next. Perhaps use Odin to flash stock kk4 without bootloaders, from there flash corn kernel (once again with Odin) and give CM a whirl following their full flashing instructions. (Which can be found both in their thread and website)

Understood... NO KIES
Sorry but a little confused still...
Do I Odin flash KK4 w/o bootloaders first -> flash corn kernal with Odin -> then flash a CM ROM using their procedure?
Where in the sequence is "flash I9000 bootloaders?
* No luck finding Odin w/o bootloaders yet, outdated download sites. Will search through xda again.
Noted! "There are no JB bootloaders for the cappy, just eclair, froyo and GB." (I was originally ATT captivate on FROYO 2.2)

For now, forget about the I9000 bootloaders.
Here's KK4: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18370912&postcount=3
During your flashing, did you ever flash the GB bootloaders? If not, get the version with bootloaders and make the the flashing isnt't interrupted.
And yeah, from there you got it right, corn kernel; and follow their full flashing instructions.

Hmmm, I did try "Odin" a couple of times to get the GingerBread update...After doing that my phone now

it may be wrong bootloaders? Can't remember exactly what it said but am I correct thinking it was one of

KK4 is a one click Odin.
From there, you'll have to use Odin 1.85 or 1.87 to flash Corn kernel to be able to flash your way up to CM.

I suggest you start with CM.
As for rooting, you can get it directly on the store now (was recently made legal). I believe it's by chainfire. But do you need it atm?
Also, all custom roms come pre-rooted.
