sim card question!? - HTC Vivid, Raider, Velocity

hello i have a question
im ordering a htc vivid. i currently have a htc inspire
when i recieve it can i just switch my inspire sim card and put it in the vivid and it will work while the vivid sim card would work in the inspire?
thanks

First of all what carrier are you with ? Any others, you are fine. (Vivid needs to be UNLOCK).
With ATT, you are better off getting a new SIM that is LTE ready (Regardless if your area has LTE signal or not) - In which will of course work on Inspire & Vivid - That's just my opinion - You can still use your old sim card if you decide to do nothing. You'll always get HSPA+ signal only.

Not to hate on the above post but you dont need a New sim I've been using the same sim since my inspire the only thing is you need to do is switch your plan to LTE that's the only thing that needs to be changed

Thanks for the replys
I have att.I'm not trying to switch plans or anything.I'm fine with my network and signals I have now I just want to know if after I'm done setting up the HTC vivid with the sim card that comes with it it will work when I switch sim cards

The LTE similar is fancy though. But no you don't need one unless your in an LTE city.
I dont think LTE cost more. Just easier to go over your data cap. I don't know. Though. I've been on the same contract for years and years. So long I get an upgrade every year.

I'll hafta look if they cost more.I'm not really trying to spend more money

Retail stores will give you one. Corporate stores will probably charge you. All they do is convert your current data plan to an equivalent plan that's coded LTE in their system. As far as i know this is what gives you access to the pta APN that allows you to use LTE

Couldn't you just go to APN settings and create an APN?
Sent from my HTC Inspire 4G using xda premium

I did the same thing (switched from Inspire to Vivid). You will need to make sure you do have an LTE approved SIM. It shouldn't cost you a dime to do. If your SIM is recent odds are you are fine.
I did have to call and have them check the settings on their side. I was not getting LTE and I live in an LTE area. So a 10min phone call fixed it.

If you have unlimited data and want to keep it you are going to need to upgrade to the lte sim.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1455702&page=1
If you aren't on unlimited then I don't think it will matter. You can run with the sim from your inspire.

Dear lord quit trying to confuse the op, the hspa sim and the LTE sim are the same if you got a new sim when you got your inspire which you pretty much had to , if you aren't in an LTE area don't worry about switching your plan , if you are you can make a two min phone call and they will provision your current data to LTE it doesn't matter if its unlimited or not you will still keep unlimited
....and boom goes the dynamite....

Have any of you guys ever got LTE signal on your raiders?
Ive had this phone for 3 months and i still havent ever seen the LTE symbol next to the reception bar...just 4G at most.
I live in Markham and the rogers map says its LTE covered but still..
Before I switched to chatr I definitely was able to use LTE. Mega fast, too! Faster than my bell fibe home internet lol.. I'm wondering if u have an LTE sim or not..? Did you get the sim new with the raider or was it from another phone?

You also need an LTE-ready plan, i.e., not all their data plans are LTE capable.

I got a new sim when I got my evo3d..didn't get a new one with my raider.
I also have a 6 gb data plan
Is that not LTE ready?
Don't think that 6GB plan is LTE ready. They have specific data plans for LTE
Ya u need to be provisioned for LTE

I'm on Bell with my Raider and I get LTE signal in strange areas. The coverage maps lie, Bell or Rogers. I work on the east end of downtown (Regent Park area) and sometimes I get LTE signal but most of the time it's HSPDA+. The LTE speeds are nuts but it drains battery much faster.
I live in Markham and I've never gotten LTE signal anywhere north of the 401.
All Bell plans are eligible for LTE speeds but you need to have an LTE sim.

Lol just posted in your sale thread about this...

You need to use legacy apns...don't remebef where they are but they are somewhere here on the vivid forums...
To get LTE you just need to call att, you don't need a new sim, they just need to switch you to LTE...you will keep the same plan and you will not be charged extra...you will need to provide the sim card number and the imei number to the att rep...
I called att and asked the same thing about LTE sim...so I went in to an att store to get a new one...turns out the infuse sim is the correct sim...they just got set you up to use LTE towers by calling them
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using XDA
The legacy apns are in the general knowledge thread that is stickied

And if the inspire has the same sim as the infuse you just need to call att...and they will give you LTE at no additional cost...
The problem isn't the sim...its just that they have you set up to use different types of apns...so a quick call and they will set you up with LTE...here's a picture of an LTE compatible sim...that is what was in the vivid when I got it and looks the same as the one that was in my infuse...
And since the inspire was called HTC inspire 4G just like the infuse was called Samsung infuse 4G...then I assume they have the same sim card...and if you don't have the right sim you can go to an att store and get an LTE compatible sim for free...they can also set you up to use LTE in a store...

Lol don't worry you keep your plan...I was worried too but I talked to att sales rep and they told me I wouldnt be charged and would stick with the same plan...but since I'm under 18 and didn't have my mom with me I just went home and called...
And now...I'm on LTE and wasn't charged and still on my same plan...
Here's what I did...choose option for billing/payments...then choose other billing/payment...then speak with sales rep...
Once I was on the line with sales rep they asked what they could help me with
I said "hi I would like to add LTE to a line"
Rep: "which line would you like"
Me: "555-555-5555"...excpet my actual number...
Rep: "so you want to add LTE to your infuse, correct?"
Me: "no, I recently purchased an HTC vivid"
Rep: "was this an upgrade?"
Me: "no, I bought it off contract"
Rep: "ok so you want to add LTE to your HTC vivid correct?"
Me: "yes"
Rep: "ok, I will need your imei and sim card #, are you currently using the HTC vivid?"
Me: "no, my sim number is xxxxxxxxxx, my imei is xxxxxxxxxx"
****waited while she applied changes to the system, asked if I was interested in u-verse and finally it was done...I hung up put sim and battery in the vivid...booted up and had LTE...I deleted my legacy apns prior to the call****
*****the conversation above is not exact...but that is what I remember of it...*****

[Q] Unlocked for international travel?

I may be spending a long time in the UK before my 2-year contract is up (study abroad). If I leave the country for an extended period of time, will Sprint unlock my One so I can use a local SIM while I'm there?
No because that sim card isn't for gsm networks its just for the lte on sprint. The way lte works it requires a sim card to work

I thought the HTC One was the first Sprint phone where you can take out the UICC (SIM), the rest, i.e. the SGS3 and EvoLTE, have an integrated UICC. So the EvoLTE does have a SIM, its just tucked inside where you cant remove it (not without modifying the unit itself anyways).

That I'm not sure about. It's above my understanding lol. I do know I don't have a sim card I can take out and the HTC one is an international phone but I guess the world bands aren't up and running yet.

Its internal. All Sprint LTE phones need a UICC. Check your about phone settings, your ICCID should be your UICC.

It does have a sim card in it, that is why there is a sim card punched out in the package. If you have a sim card ejecter, you would put it in the tiny hole next to the sim tray and it would eject the sim card out.

The EvoLTE has an internal SIM, youre not gonna see it. The first Sprint phone that has a swappable SIM is the HTC One. The SGS3, EvoLTE, Note II, LG Optimus -among others- all have a SIM inside of them.

That's not 100% accurate. Before it started with its LTE upgrade, Sprint did offer some phones that had swappable SIMs.

Alright, let me fix it: the first LTE phone with a removable SIM is the HTC One.
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2417502,00.asp
"This model of the One supports Sprint's 3G (CDMA 800/850/1900) and LTE (1900 only) networks, along with GSM/EDGE on 850/900/1800/1900 and HSPA 14.4 on the 1900 and 2100MHz bands. That means this phone will roam internationally at 3G speeds. In theory, you could unlock it to work poorly on AT&T's and T-Mobile's networks, but it wouldn't be able to take advantage of fast speeds on either. "
It wont work in TMobile USA. It doesnt have the 1700 band.

That information may not be correct. According to the FCC filings there is no mention of the 850/1900 GSM bands.

I'm going to be doing something similar soon when I go to Jamaica (Sprint is unlocking for international SIM use for me) so hope I can help...did you make sure you have a 4g plan from digicel?...if I remember correctly, they have a seperate plan that had seperate 4g charge incorporated...correct if I'm wrong...maybe you need to add 4g to your plan?

i thought of that also but when i unlocked the samsung galaxy s4 previously i didnt need to activate 4G once i put the sim in i would pick up the 4G one i was in a good coverage area, digicel's 4G service is kinda spotty im in antigua, if i go to the town or on a hill id get 4G in most places, i dont believe that im even getting 3G on the htc one as it only says gsm :/

First make sure your APN settings match your carrier. Second make sure in network settings make sure you have chosen CDMA/LTE. Sprint always shows that stupid GSM sign when using it on a GSM network outside US. Do this with a file explorer go to /ststem/customize/AAC/default.xml change sku_id to 42 and reboot
The phone will show the correct sign 3G, H, etc

it would really help to know if this worked for you as im thinking of buying a sprint htc one since they are cheaper to use in jamaica on that same digicel. so its great to know that it works would be better to know if the 4g works or atleast if the network data speed is good since im a wifi kinda guy
sprint galaxy S4 has 4g 1700/2100mhz for gsm networks but sprint htc one has no 4g for gsm networks , so 4g will not work.

TBH, you'd be better off buying a HTC One ATT/T-Mo variant since (I think, but haven't looked up) all frequencies work on it.
Anyways, you should be able to just insert the SIM and you should be good to go. Make sure you go into your Mobile Network settings, and change the mode to GSM. Alternatively you could go into testing (*#*#4636#*#*) and change the mode to something like WCDMA preferred.
