any way to prevent market app(vending.apk) from auto updating itself - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

as the title says,
my problem is that the latest version of market prevents me from using market unlock so many apps can not be installed from my country .. but with uninstalling the market update and running it everything works fine, now the problem is that the market keeps updating itself to the latest version, is there any way to prevent this ?
i found some posts saying that typing "pm disable com.android.vending.updater" in a terminal emulator would prevent it does this work for the new google play as well ? and how to do it on the note ?

Maybe you can try freezing Market Updater app using some free app manager like AntTek App Manager from the market. Or if you have Titanium Backup Pro even better. Hope this helps.

will try this method
i have titanium backup, what should i do?

You can freeze apps using titanium only if u have bought the pro version.. if u did then go to batch and select freeze apps option and freeze market updater..

Donut market not aware of installed apps

After flashing donut I restored installed apps using Astro but only apps installed through market are now recognised by the market as installed and downloaded so I miss upgrades. Is there a way to make the market aware of already installed apps?
Thanks

thats the standard behaviour. Use aTrackDog if you want that functionality.
I'm sure it worked with cyanogen mods... but I will try with aTrackDog.
thanks
The Market is only aware of applications installed through the Market Application. That's just how is works, and how it has always worked. In order to track your updates through the Market, you will need to reinstall your apps using the Market, not Astro. Sorry.
aTrackDog is a great tool, and it can track any/all apps even those installed manually (or from Astro, or other tools) as well as those installed through the Market.

Are you asking because you have installed non-paid for but should have been paid for apps, and are trying to get the updates? That won't work. Good try though.
Why not just re-download them from the market instead of using Astro? That way you will see all of the updates.
Why would you even have market apps on your sd card?
Exactly which apps aren't showing in the market?
I should be starring in "C.S.I - XDA"

Backup market db without root?

I'm on the stock N1 and want to unlock the bootloader, which will force a wipe.
Whilst I can backup the installed apps to .apks on the sdcard with several apps as far as I know when they are restored they will not be 'linked' to the market, so I won't get update notifications for them.
'backup for root users' and 'titanium backup' can back up the market db, but you need to be root in the first place, which N1 users cannot be.
Is there a way to backup the market db without root?
Or maybe 'fix' the market data during/after the reinstall of the .apks?
Back them up to the sd. When you root reinstall and use atrackdog to check for any updates. If you do update the app in the market then it will show from that point on through the markets update notification.
Or... You can download Titanium Backup from market
EDIT... Sorry, it says you need root for it... I coulda sworn it didnt say that before...
both mybackup pro and app manager can backup aps to sd card without root.. then you can use thm to restore after rooting.

He is 100% correct about this but if you look for app manager it is now call app monster. The pro or free versions will work.
@lgkahn and @jerrycycle
Thanks guys, but I'm sure I used MyBackup to do this ages ago with my G1. It restored the apps OK but they didn't show up as 'installed' in the Market so Market doesn't give you updates.
I notice MyBackup now has a 'root' section in the preferences which includes a 'Market db' option. The only other apps I've seen that can do it require root so it looks like maybe it can't be done :-/
Failing that I'm now looking for the restore solution with the least clicks, then jerrycycle's idea of ATrackDog (thanks!). AppMonster doesn't have a batch install, App Manager (by Amazing Droid) does and pops up the usual install dialog so thats 2 clicks per app.
AppBrain looks cool, you can make a backup list of your apps on the web, then resync after wipe, but it does a market search for each one which is quite a lot of clicks It does note protected apps though, which the others can't dump so I'd loose track of them.
hmmm not going well. Market shows all apps I had installed but as 'free', it thinks they're available to install. If I install the app from SD - I've tried MyBackup, Astro and AppManager - it is available in the launcher but still listed as 'free' in the market.
Looks like only way to do it is to go down the list in Market and manually install each from there.

uninstalling goggles, amazon mp3

i am really new to this and have my phone on kernel 2.6.33.2-cyanogenmod cyanogenmod-5.0.6-n1 build epe54b as of last night and dont know about these commands i see on google. i tried something called terminal but i am really lost on using it. it gives me a denied permission. i might be using it wrong but i dont know if it is what i should use to uninstall these. any help?
you can use Titanium backup to delete the apps...download it from the market and then open the app, go into backup/restore tab, and click on whatever app you want to remove and just un-install
hope this helps
thanks i just loaded that and when i clicked the backup/restore tab nothing shows up...
i think when you first open up Titanium backup, it tells you to hit "Problem" so the busybox can be downloaded and then the app needs to be restarted
so try that first, open the app, click on problem, then it will download something, then restart the app
i have but still no apps. i uninstalled and disablled apps2sd and reinstalling both apps and that worked! thanks for recommending the apps and the replies!!!

Updating installed apps via Market

is there a way to update applications installed via the market place ?
I have a couple of apps that i installed manualy ( outside of the market ) but they dont show up in the market so i was just wondering if there was a way that the market can see those apps and update them with new updates....
If you get the donate version of Titanium Backup then maybe the Market Doctor feature would work.
Otherwise go into Settings->Manage Apps and un-install the app then go into market and install it from there.

Titanium backup error.

I use titanium backup pro for my apps.
I did a full backup all apps + data
I realized that now I see no apps in the market.
If I go to market->my apps. It says no apps downloaded from the market.
Now I can't get any updates or anything. Does anyone know how to solve this problem?

I use Titanium Backup before and after ROM flashes, or lots of app updates, and I haven't seen this issue on my Samsung Captivate. I have v3.6.7.1 of Titanium Backup running on a Pheonix ROM. Just to confirm, I re-ran the batch "backup all user apps + system data" and after it completed, checked the market "My apps" area. Everything shows as expected in the "My apps" area on my phone.
Well i have the 3.6.0 paid version sideloaded.. Im running darky..
