[Q] light sensor - Galaxy Tab 8.9 General

hi, this is my first post.
I installed androsensor, wanted to do some tests with tasker and light sensor but I have noticed that andro sensor gives me only 2 values, there is no punctual measure but one value for good light (in my case 18.5805 fc) and a value for bad/no light (1.858 fc).
Is it the same for you? So this sensor behave like an on/off, is that right?
Sorry for my poor English and Thanks in advance for any reply

Light sensor

Hi,
According the the literature the light sensor adjusts the backlight according the the ambient light available.
Is it just me but this doesn't seem to be working and yes 'Auto adjust backlight' is checked.
Regards.
I can actively see this working all the time, if you happen to hold your hand over a bit of the screen you'll notice it slightly fade. I'ts not a major difference but it's def there.

On my TD2 it is working, but the change in backlight are not so obvious, you have to pay attention to see it: the change is not instantaneous, it is gradual (over a 0.5s time maybe), and it does not change much (not as much as the powersaving no-activity backlight level, which is much lower).
The best way I have found to check if it work is to be in a moderately lit room, and cover/nucover the light sensor with your finger. You should be able to notice the small change in backlight level as you cover/uncover the sensor....
BTW, anyone knows if it is possible to tune the backlight level/ ambiant light function? I would like to keep the auto-adjust, but lower the backlight level when it is completely dark to the minimal setting (or even lower), similar to the powersaving level I was talking about above.
This very low level is not nice for watching movies or pictures (it skew the color rendering because white is not white anymore, it is yellowish grey), but I find it ideal for ebook reading in the dark (it saes the battery, it is not tiring for the eye, and it is not bothering for the sleeping beauty sharing my bed when I read late ;-) )

When I move around (indoor/outdoor), the screen brightness is very consistant (and colors are brilliant too), I persume the light sensor worked
but TD2 did not respond to my random playing of the sensor.. the finger trick did not work for me, but i don't care

Maybe a stupid question...but maybe you mistake the LED for the light sensor.
The indicator led is on the left of the speaker grid, the light sensor on the right...if you have ticked automatic in the backlight intensity (parameter/more/alimentatation section, backlight subsection), you should definitely see a change if you are under bright light and cover/uncover the light sensor just right of the speaker grid.
BTW, thanks fort the g-light application, it is working nicely!
Could even save battery, although maybe this is mitigated by having one more background process running for polling the light sensor data...

Google I/O 2010 Day Demo question

We all know that the nexus one has in the top left hand corner 2 types of sensors:
1. Proximity Sensor
2. Light Sensor
I dont know which one is which but in this demo of the day 2 conference one of them lights up during the demonstration of a call. Can someone explain why that is?
Take a look at timestamp 23:02 in http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IY3U2GXhz44
That could very well be an infrared light flashing and being picked up on the camera.
Is that how the proximity sensor works? Sends out flashes and looks for a reflection?
Could possibly do that when a call initiates and whenever motion is detected to check the proximity.
Try it yourself. Start a call while looking at your phone through a webcam. I just did and can see it flashing while the call is active. It doesn't flash the same way as on the phone in the demo, but more of a steady flashing on mine. Could be that it is more efficient in FroYo or the version they were running.
Nice find, I overlooked it when I watched it earlier.

Not sure which sensor it is but
1) infra red light does show up when you look at it through a lense with filter/coating/film. Try looking at your tv remote with your digital camera.
2) the blinking could be the video framerate
I think it's most likely the proximity sensor. The light sensor should just take in data and never give out any type of signal. Also I did over look the way a proximity sensor works. It does send out some type of signal and it needs to collect information such as reflection index and velocity to get an accurate measurement of distance
Didn't notice it lol.

It looks like infrared sensor. probally the proximity sensor.

[Q] LED's on the other side of the front facing camera?

Hey guys, I'm fairly new here, but there's something that keeps bothering me.
On the left side of the LG there's this 3(?) LED lights or something..
Does anyone have a clue on how they work, or if they even work?
Well, they are not LEDs, they are sensors. Two of them are obvious, one is proximity sensor and the other one would be light sensor. Don't have a clue about the third though...
I'm secretly hoping the third to be a notification LED of some sort
Thanks though

- Accelerometer sensor
- Proximity sensor
- Gyro sensor
eh, what?
tenchars
@xmoo
That makes no sense. The gyro and accelerometer have no need for visual input, hence highly(!) unlikely that they are what you say they are.
i suspect the first 2 from the left are both proximity sensors, it could be to increase reliability.
the 3rd is the light sensor.
The proximity sensor is based on an IR diode and an IR receiver, just "film" your O2X with a camera and you should see the IR LED flashing.
Thank you guys
Still think they should've put a LED in it though.

Strange behavior of screen's brightness on Mi3!!

My MI3's screen's brightness increases itself without being set to automatic brightness whenever it is exposed to any light, whether its sunlight, tubelight or even in daytime... plz help me solve this issue, also the area of light sensor turns too hot... plz help me guys, i would be very thankful!!

Ambient light sensor

Hello guys, i checked in the service menu the value of this sensor.
the weird part is that this sensor has just 2 values: 0 and 6645.
when you cover it up it.s 0, when it;s free is 6645.
This is really weird as the value should increase/decrease gradually when you move your finger over it.
There were reported problems of lower battery time using ambient light on. So, can you please check if your sensor is showing normal values? (more than 2)
Thank you!
also i tried 2 ambient light sensor apps that work well on another phone and they say they can't detect the sensor...
I have tested it on mine and the values change with varying levels of light.
