Thinking if swapping Xperia play for sensation xl - HTC Sensation XL

What does everyone think of the phone with your time with it? Good? Bad? What are the custom roms like? Any good ones? Worth the swap?
Thanks for your help guys.

In case of gaming NO . But HTC SXL looks better and in my opinion ,it has more support on both sides that is HTC and XDA. The screen is very good especially outside.

Well it depends on what do you do most with your phone. If it's for gaming than no. But if it for Listening to Music or Camera stuff, than absolutely. And the SXL has Sense UI which is really amazing

Dude if someone is offering you a SXL for your play DO IT not only is it worth 3 times more:
Xperia Play = £140
SXL = £430
But specs wise it pwns it too

Don't let the hype fool you, unless you intend to spend your life playing emulators, the play is not that good at gaming, unless your 10 years old, and have tiny hands lol

The sensation xl is one of the smoothest and snappiest android device that i have used in terms of ui and browser. Its doing fine as a gaming device for me too. Some games wont install from market but theres a way to get around that. I played shadowgun, riptide gp and fruit ninja on it fine. But the main strength on the device are browser, screen and battery life.

Hey guys, I'm from over in the DHD thread and I'm thinking of either ordering a Galaxy Nexus or a Sensation XL. Which one do you think I could get more bang for my buck? Does it come in an unlocked GSM version?

i'd go with the Galaxy nexus, for a number of reason.
1) Dual core (Although the SXL proved a single core still has it)
2) Much higher screen res, The nexus has a 720×1280 screen res compared to the 400x800 of the SXL.
3) Finally being the official google developers phone, the galaxy nexus will be first for OS updates. And will receive "Jelly Bean" before any other device

Tegra 3 ....no thanks

Theres nothing that needs a quadcore on your phone. I was thinking of upgrading from my sensation xl to a one x previously but trying one in store i changed my mind. The one x with tegra3 is full of bugs and glitches. Surprisingly it does not feel any faster or smoother at all in general use. the browser and multi tasking is much better on the sensation xl. Then theres the issue of battery life. On the SXL i can get through the day with pretty heavy usage of 4-5 hrs screen on time on 3g and 6-7 hrs on wifi. The one x is getting typically 2-3 hrs screen on time on wifi. If you can get the SXL at a good price go for it.

Sorry i really must pay more attention to what i'm reading
the One S is still a beafy phone. 1.5Gig dual core snapdragon & adreno 225 (The SXL has adreno 205 like the xperia play, adreno 225 is 2 generations ahead)
the One S also has a SAMOLED screen

The snapdragon s4 is great. But unfortunately the pentilated Samoled screen can be a downgrade depending on usage. Its the same display on the Razr and frankly its terrible for web use. The one s despite its super efficient cpu offers over 1hr less web browsing time than the sensation xl due to the amoled display. Htc continues to do thing halfway offering the best soc then mate it with a crappy display. Offering the best display then mate it with a problematic Soc.

Gonna see what the s3 is like and if not get the one s. Thanks guys

htc one x

hey there, everyone had seen HTC one X, it got really great UI and design.
Our O2X is not bad at all, but maybe there is someone who can port ONE X desing for LG Optimus 2x. It would be great
Not getting another tegra phone, sticking with my o2x for a couple of years then moving to something thats properly supported.

I shall +1 to that, sir !
wt
WHY you both are making Off-topic and just don't answer a question?
Maybe it would be possible to make a theme, but I think the design is too much 2.2/2.3 for a 4.0 phone!
OT: I don't like the one x. The support will be bad and the new tegra games don't run fast enough on it. And I read in a few reviews, that the one x is sometimes a bit laggy because of late deactivation of the suspend core...
ONE X is like the O2X, HTC rushed it so that they'll be the first quadcore phone that is why the software is having lots of issues , and sense 4 is slow(reading reports from the one X users at XDA).
One s is the way to go! (':

yes. i think it still uses a 42mn processor, combined with 4 cores. no full day use for most people D:
anyone hear about he Meizu MX? been reading about it, pricing is very attractive, new quad core A9 from samsung, 1.5gig, 1gig of ram. screen is right about the iphone 4s with 291ppi (dont quote my specs as i dont remember them all).
I'm thinking about it as an alternative, with pricing for the 32gig at around 425usd it's alot more attractive than the htc one x (priced above 550usd) and probably the SGS3 (when i comes out) will be priced similiar to HTC one x.
only issue is its only sold in china
Have both phones..
Not everything mentioned here is true..
After todays update, pretty much all lag is gone..
Antutu score above 11000
Camera is fantastic
All in all å good phone.. Just hope they will fix the batt drain.. Moderate use today is about 14-18 hours.. Standby drain is VERY good, but screen kills the batt..
Without using screen.. Only Standby, id bet the phone would manage 3-4 days

HTC Desire X Announced. Bring on more roms :P

hey guys
new htc desire x got announced. when it comes out. lets port sense 4.1
http://androidheadlines.com/2012/08...-inch-screen-beats-audio-ics-on-a-budget.html
I have been confused by this device. Is it a dual core low end 1ghz snapdragon s4?
And which version of sense? Being dual core have they given it the full sense 4.1 treatment or a new sense 4.1a?
Sent from my Nexus 7
Logic would say full sense.
Sent from my HTC Incredible S using Tapatalk 2
Why would logic say that? That would be awesome, like the sensation XL was last year
if its full sense 4.1 I will cry from happiness
But, the device is pretty low on ram for today's standards, so that's why I assumed its a sense lite device
Also the processor is a pretty low clock speed compared with full sense devices
Hopefully I'm wrong

Interesting I just postet this 2 or 3 days ago and no f**ks were given Whatever, it'll be awesome. Full Sense and perfekt resolution. SO no resizing and better look and feel
Engadget has a hands on video of the phone, it doesn't have the fancy zoom animations that the one x/s have, sure its full sense?
have a look at the music player too, I can't remember correctly but the sense 4a music player was different iirc, this one resembles the full sense one

Looks like full Sense to me. The zoom animations from Project X aren't actually in the original Sense 4, it's just a sweet change from JellyBean... Also in my music player I don't have the select player function as you see on the Desire X. Also the buttons on the top right of the player show also soundbound and I think cover upload.
EDIT: I went trough another few reviews and I guess 3D Rosie means full Sense
I think the zoom animations are sense 4, they are slightly different to the jb ones, infinity uses the stock animations and there is a difference
So does it have the 3d Rosie?

sense 4.1 is nice! :victory:
Just edited the wrong cmt how dumb was that? Anyway, I just read a review and it's not entirely full Sense. It's sth between full and lite. It doesn't have the Sense recent apps (stock is better anyway) and it doesn't have the homescreen overview. But according to htc it's not the final software build so they may change sth till we get it...
Question:
Would this be a good mid ranged smartphone to buy when it comes out price 280 euro i gues.
Or are there way better ones out now with higher, better specs? Cause im gonna buy a new one from now to 2 weeks
( Googling and reading shizz on the web to make up my mind )
My old Gio lowass did its job and im ready to go Mid ranged now and with googling i came across this new phone and it looks nice but maybe people here think different?
Any help would be appreciated :victory:
This phone actually has a pretty crappy SoC. It's the S4, but more specifically it's an S4 Play MSM8225. It has a dual core CortexA5 processor, an Adreno 203 GPU and is manufactured at 45nm unlike the higher end S4's which use a 28nm process. Modern dual core SoC's are of the CortexA9 variety, (although the S4 is "based on" the CortexA15) which is significantly more powerful.
In comparison, our phone has an S2 CortexA8 and an Adreno 205 GPU which just might be better than the dual core A5, due to it's older architecture. I'm not completely sure though.

I would recommend a different phone if you're looking for mid-range. Check out prices on last year's high-end models, that way you're still getting a good phone and if it's high-end, it'll have good dev support. (For example Samsung Galaxy S2, HTC Sensation, Samsung Galaxy Nexus, etc)
Or if you're willing to spend a bit more cash, check out the HTC One S, that's a GREAT mid-range phone.

nothing takes pics in dark coz light is need for sensor make better pic.

Personally I find HTC phones better than samsung phones. video audio, music volume and washed out camera indoors is major problems i had with S2/3/GN2 and very boring UI. Only reason I chose samsung phones was because of hardware and battery life but now HTC and Sony imo are there in terms of hardware and battery life aswell now, so for me samsung with their ugly boring UI is irrelevant now.

Yes it is able. The camera is fantastic on it. I'm blown away when I go to bars and parties how good it is. I was highly suspicious that it was only 4MP at first, and nearly didn't get it, but it's been better than any phone camera I've ever used so far. It's even great for Youtube vlogging.

It means they found 1.7Ghz a good compromise to keep heat down and improve battery life. If you want to shorten your battery life and make your phone hotter then sure, there'll be options to overclock it. It's still basically the fastest mobile SoC in existence so no idea why anyone would *need* to do this

I would bet for a 12mp cam, sdcard slot & 1.9ghz clock for the HTC One+.
But I would bet that it won't come. I think they resetted their naming convention and decided to make it HTC One, HTC Two, HTC Three etc. Just like android wouldn't make sense if they release 5.0 just months after 4.0

HTC One gaming?

Hello guys! I am planning to buy either the HTC One or the S4.
One of the issues I am not sure of is the 3d graphics of the One. Is it good for gaming? And I mean heavy games like MC4, NOVA 3 and GTA VC.
Also, a quick question: if the HTC One 32GB is selling at SGD $488 while the S4 16GB is selling at SGD $578, which will you buy, if you were a gamer, a ROMer and a photographer all at once?

It's good, probably be better than the S4 when we get the 4.2.2 update. The GPU can be overclocked to 450Mhz

Thanks for the quick reply!
Did all the games run flawlessly (by flawless I mean SUPERSMOOTH) ?
Is the video recording good BTW? I heard from some reviews that the optical stabilisation is making the video shaky. Is it true?
Thanks again!

Yeah, they run smoother than on my Nexus 4 The videos are smooth for me, the stabilisation helps stop the shake

Is the camera good? It is an ultrapixel camera, something new in the market.
Is the gorilla glass 2 OK? I always throw my phone in with my calculator, wallet, keys and stuff.
Lastly, why is only 1.5 GB of RAM usable? For the S4 it has 1.8GB. is it a software or hardware thing?
Sorry for so many questions, it is a hard choice indeed!

Cameras average, glass is great, back is scratch able - I have two scratches. The HTC One has a better multitasking experience. The ram is used for the GPU
Running Vice City right now, runs great. So far have played Street Fighter IV, Spider-Man, Dark Knight Rises and Iron Man 3. All pretty smooth experience. Some lag and redraw problems in the Gameloft games, but I suspect it's because Gameloft didn't optimize them.
What do you guys think of the battery? Does it last for the day even with some gaming?

Should be better than S4 when it comes to battery longetivity when used. But S4 is far better when we're talking about idle times battery saving.

Iron Man 3 plays nice but does have a slight lag in the beginning if you do not have you're wireless set up I think its trying to phone home or access some crappy advertisement. I do not believe it is a phone thing. Battery life does suffer when gaming but overall the battery life is quite good and will get me though a full day with decent gaming, Facebook, YouTube and internet surfing.
Both are great phones. I chose the One over the S4 for the Build quality and I used to have a Samsung Glide which had issues with GPS, The one locks on GPS instantly.

it is a hard choice indeed!
Thanks all of you. I have gotten what I needed.

Oops, one more question.
Does the HTC One experience frame drops when lots of instances are on the screen? This would be one of the deciding factors between the One and the S4!
From the S4 thread:
From all the review and test I saw, i9505 suffer from little lag using Air features and has less fps in games. I tried Zombiewood(gameloft) on i9505 and i9500, when there are a lot of zombies who appear, the i9505 become really laggy whereas the i9500 still run flawlessly.

Deciding factor 2: Does the One open and close apps, switch between apps etc smoothly?
From the S4 thread:
I have had the Nexus 4 too and in smoothness and speed when opening apps and widgets it is much faster than the S4.

Deciding factor 3: Is the build quality good? Overall, do you guys think it is an awesome phone in all aspects?
For the S4 thread:
I don't own the HTC One, but I just hate its ugly face with the 2 ugly speakers on the top and on the bottom. Even its build quality seems to be what some people call "metal Premium"(that always make me laugh), its performance and its uni body design just doesn't appeal me. However it seems that its screen and its camera are very good.

This is going to be my last few questions here. Please answer them well! especially the first and second one, I really DO care for performance.

The phone suffers 0 frame drops even when heavily multitasking. It's smooth as a baby's bum.
The One is noticeably faster in opening/switching apps than the S4.
Build quality is awesome, unless you're unlucky and you get a unit with a small tiny gap at the top or bottom.
Thanks. Any one else? Shouldn't have said that thank you message earlier on....
