SD card damaged - Nook Color General

Hey guys,
Did a search and didn't really find an answer.
A couple of days ago my Nook all of a sudden doesn't recognize my HP 16gb SD card. So I took it out, rebooted the Nook and everything was fine again.
Now this morning it doesn't see the SD card again and now it's telling me that the SD card is damaged. I can't even do a Titanium Backup because it can't get to the file on the SD card. Is there anything I can do or is my SD card hosed? I'd HATE to lose all the stuff I have on the card.

Sounds like you are running a bootable SD. Can you boot into recovery if you put the sd in and use power + n? If so you might be able to make a nadroid backup.
Have you tried the card in a pc and is it recognized that way? If so you might be able to pull your last backup file off of the card. It might not be everything you have now but depending on how often you backup could get you most of the way there.
If you can get a backup either way, save it to your pc format the card start from scratch and then use the backup to restore to where you want to be. It is a good idea to make frequent backups and save them to a secondary location (e.g. dropbox or the pc) for this very reason.

No I'm not running a bootable card. The only way I even noticed that something was wrong was when I couldn't access my books with the Nook app. I'll try reading the card on my PC when I get home from work today.

I'm getting the same thing here. 8GB and not booting from card.

Try to find some way of throwing it into a computer. See if a friend has A media card reader and a micro sd to sd adapter. If that doesn't work you might be sol. You should still be under warranty so you can get a replacement. Backing up important information though is a priority though. No matter what, back up

I had the same thing recently. The computer could see the card and even the files at first but couldn't do anything with them. After I gave up on copying the files off the card I tried to format and that wouldn't work either. I hope you guys have better luck than I did.

Damaged SD Card

Does anyone know why Android would see the sd card as damaged and the card be fine?
Like I turnoff usb storage and then it will not use the card but if I reboot into recovery I can mount it and copy files fine as well as put it in a card reader and it is fine there too?
Any ideas on how to fix this without a complete format?
Happened to me too once. Everything looked fine even in recovery. My pc could recognize files when I mounted and everything. But in phone it said damaged SD card.
I copied all files to pc, reformatted and all is well...
since there is no damage to the card there has to be another way to do it though. That is what I am saying.

Not sure how much your card worth for you but if I where you I would take the 5 minute and remove the card backup and format it...
Flash can easily get corrupted it usually happen when you move the card from one device to another without proper stopping and even for no reason at all!
Can you explain me why you think the card is good if the hardware tell otherwise ???
The first time I rebooted my Nexus One it told me the card was unreadable and offered to format it. Since there's no way (I can see?) to remove the card without removing the battery, I rebooted the phone, put it in my laptop, ran a filesystem check, no problems. Put it back in the phone and booted, haven't seen the problem since.

Because my computer has no problems with card at all. Data can be moved around and read just fine. Just the phone thinks there is a problem. I am guess that something is telling android there is a problem when no other device sees it. That is why I believe the card is fine.
Same problem here, let me know if you've found a solution
i've had that same problem. just fully formatted it..16GB card.

My SD card not being recognized after installing CyanogenMod

I finally spent the night yesterday downgrading my Hero, rooting it, and then installing CyanogenMod after lots of reading lol. Everything went smoothly for the most part, except for that my SD Card is not being recognized now by the phone, and i'm not sure why? Whenever I try to do Titanium Backup or run the Camera app, i'm getting messages that there's no SD Card installed, though it is. What could be causing this problem? Could it be i'm out of space on the SD card? I know I only had about 165MB of space on it before i did one last recovery backup last night, not sure if the backup filled up the card? Should i just recover from my Nandroid backup and try installing CyanogenMod again?

Clean your card so you have at least 500mb available if that doesn't work backup your card and format it to fat32 and copy back your files.

yes the problem is your card is full, clear some stuff like music until you can get a bigger card.
You will have to take card out of phone and insert directly into computer to do this.
Thanks you guys, it was indeed the SD card being full, I plugged it into my computer directly and removed about a gig of music and its working fine now. Thanks!!!

[Q] I/O errors with cm7 on sd card

I followed the instructions to put cm7 on a sd card and everything installed and worked well but things loaded a little slow. I bought a couple sandisk class 4 cards for mine and a friends nook because those are supposed to be better. well I cant get it to work now! the old card still works but when i insert the new sandisk and the penguin starts loading i get a bunch of i/o errors and the cm7 logo ends up looping and never loads up. ive searched for a while. any help is appreciated.
Sounds like your card got corrupted for some reason. Consider flashing a nandroid and just redoing everything.
thanks for the reply. I dont quite know what that advice means. haha
well, that means, if you have backed up your card somehow, you're going to have to reinstall everything and flash back your entire system.
Considering that you are on a SD card system, there are only 2 ways you could have done this back up, 1 is a full on image via winimage or made a backup (nandroid) of your system+data. The nandroid or backup made by cwm would have to be written to your fake "sd" card after you remake your bootable cm7, then you could reinstall that information, provided that you have backed up what's on your "fake" sd, you can just copy that back over.
I still have a working bootable sd card with nightly 102 on it. I tried 2 new sandisk cards and get the i/o errors. ive tried formatting and redoing the new cards at least a dozen times. using winimage and whatever that other one is called windisk32 or whatever. very confused as to why its not working and where to go from here.
Oh, that's odd. I wish I had a solution for you. At this point, it almost sounds like it's an hardware issue as opposed to your software/sd cards.
You got a friend with a nook color you can test your cards out on? If they work on his nook, maybe your reader is messed up, dust/water/etc?'
Sorry, not of much help at this point.
its really weird. they wont work on the other nook either. but the old one does. is there a best way to format an sd card? when I couldnt get them to work initially i started messing with the partitions in disk management. i generally just use the nook to format them.
Well, get easeus partition manager and collapse them all, so a slow format and then try to write the image.
I was able to load everything onto another card. neither sandisk worked... crazy talk.
Well, I think we've established that it's probably how you're writing to your sd cards.
So assuming your software is good (md5 checksums match), then it's a matter of hardware.
2 suggestions, use another computer and try to burn on that.
Use a different microSD reader/writing device (do you use a usb device or is it built in or is it a SD card that you slip the micro one into?)

solved. [Q] URGENT!! SD card suddenly erased everything on its own.

My sd card just formatted itself.
Last thing i remembered is that my musics in my sd card, my phone couldnt read it. so i took it out. put it back in the phone, bam the entire sd card got erased.
is there anyway to get those things back? more importantly my photos

Try some free data recovery software. Google it, and use a card reader on your PC to help, but it does not look good.
Thanks for your reply.
Ive actually did that and got trolled by this program. After scanning all the files, it asked me to purchase the program in order to get the files back. I got fed up and reformatted the sd card and start from scratch.
Right now I'm facing one issue. After putting stuff back into the sd card, I unplugged it and the sd card un mounted itself. I pulled it out and plug it back in with restart and all and the phone still cant read it.
Is it the sd card problem or my phone?
Or what else should I do?
Thanks on advance.

There are plenty of good free ones that dont do that, however, if you have now formatted the card all the information is lost.
Which format did you format it too? Make sure its FAT or EXT2, 3 or 4. The best bet is to format it in recovery.
I knew it would be a problem if I reformat it, but I was really fed up certain programs like those. I didn't want to waste time so I chose to reformat it.
My first attempt with FAT didn't work, and tried the others as well.
This morning I reformatted and stick it into the phone and erased every thing on the sd through the phone again. And now it seems to work fine.
Somehow the first few tries the phone reformatted the sd even when I did it through the computer already.
Anyway, thanks alot buddy

If you don't find other solution, put the card in an adaptor and just copy them to the PC.
Have you by chance deleted a folder called external SD from your memory card, coz it formats your sd card. Try recovering files from sd card through connecting it via some other usb card reader.
there are programs, that can save the photos even if you format a disk or in this case a sd card...
let me find one for you,,,, don't know if it works...read in here...
http://www.easeus.com/resource/sd-card-format-recovery.htm.
of course there must be other programs better and free, I really don't know if this easeus is of any good...
never tried...
you must have a sd card reader in your pc of course...
thx guys
i tried to use other adapter and i find no change as i still can not found the sd card via pc.
i sure that i have not delete the file of external SD, it keep showing Blank SD on my 4x.
i am really frustrated about that...:crying:
Maybe sdcard got corrupted. Try formating the card from your phone if it gives you the option. I dont think this will be repeated.
sad..
in fact i dun care about do the sd card can function after all.
i just wonder can i get back my file:crying::crying:

may be your sd card has corrupted or it is fake, how long are you using it?
once i bought a fake 16gb card it worked good for few days and then the same situation as you are in. and i found no solution to recovery my files as it becomes strange, files are there but you can't use them anymore, can't delete them or copy them.
try using some partition manager after inserting your card into your pc and check if your card is there, and it's status.
if your card is fake, i have no solution,
if it's corrupted, it can be brought back to life by formatting or using other partition recovery tools i think.
i dun know whether it is fake or not, but i have used it for around half a year already.
i dun care whether it can come alive i just want to get back my data.
today i have send the sd card to a engineer, he said he fix it but it cost a large amount of money and i am not able to afford it.
and then he recover the sd card to the original situation.
it means that there must be a solution for it.
can anyone help:crying:
i had the same problem too. my 32GB went on and off after i dropped it from 1 meter high.
i used these two recover as much as my files as possible.

but still be prepared to not be able to recover anything at all.
