App that Stops Home Screen Auto Rotation

Does anyone know of an application in which you can disable Auto-Rotation on just the Home Screen instead of disabling it altogether?
It disables the Auto-Rotation in all of your programs if you disable it in settings. This gets annoying if you go into your gallery.
Maybe there is a program that can change the auto rotation properties of specific apps.
Thanks for your help guys.

depends on what launcher you are using....what launcher are you using?
Beautiful widgets has a toggle widget for disabling/enabling auto rotation. But I'm pretty sure there's no app to apply rotation restrictions to specific apps. But search google and see if you can find anything. It also does depend on the launcher in some cases. Are you rooted, running 2.1/2.2/2.2.1 roms or anything?
This would be a great idea for someone to make into an app if it doesn't exist. I too would like to disable home screen rotation, but still be able to use the landscape keyboard and such in other apps without having to change the settings.
if you use a different launcher like launcher pro or adw, those settings are available to you. if you use froyo or gingerbread launcher, it doesnt rotate.
I guess I didn't make myself clear enough. I run the stock 2.2 launcher and I prefer it over LP and ADW. I know I am able to completely turn Auto-Rotate on or off, but I would just need it off for the home screen (maybe the browser and messaging too). It gets annoying turning it off and going into the gallery and not being able to view in landscape mode. I also don't want to have to continuously be toggling a widget or going into my settings. I'm rooted, and I assume such a program would require full permissions.
I guess it hasn't been made yet.

stock 2.2 launcher? like the froyo launcher? or touchwiz?
We are in the Captivate thread, so... Touchwiz. It's the "stock" launcher of the Captivate.
Not that your question needed to be answered because it doesn't have any relation about what this thread is about.
If you're running 2.2, the pulldown menu at the top should have the auto rotation toggle in it. It's really not that much of a hassle. Swipe down. Disable. Swipe the menu closed. Carry on about your business. If there's an app or one gets created, it's always going to be running in the background no matter if you have the "disable app" to work with one app or forty apps, and it's just gonna be lurking there in the bushes, getting ready to take your battery from behind with no lube. No lube at all.

wow. i apologize for trying to understand what you are running....you know, since 'STOCK' means different things around here....and it absolutely pertains to what this thread is about
carry on. sorry to be of some major burden to you....
Honestly, "stock" does have about 6 or 7 different meanings and implementations around here.
I dont know what you are necesarily refering to here, but what I would like is a widget or icon that I can put on my homescreen that would allow me to just move from auto sensor to portrait only for my homescreen, not the whole system. I know that it can be enabled through most launcher settings, like LP and ADW and GO Launcher, but if there were to be a shortcut to toggling this it would be awesome
Word to the wise. When asking other people a question you really want the answer to, don't act like an arrogant sob. Be it one sentence or an entire explanation. There taking time out to help you. Take me for instance. I was going to dig pretty hard for a solution to this partly for you and partly for a friend that likes stock over lp. But after reading all your posts you just come off as an obnoxious brat. Of the two of you Im only going to give the solution i find (if any) to one of you. Take a wild guess at who won't get it.
All I was getting at is he's asking these questions when I was just wondering if there was an app that would stop the home screen from auto rotating but leave everything else defaulting.
It's a simple question. It has nothing to do with running a different launcher, I already know LP and ADW do such a thing, but I don't want to use them. That's why I was asking.
I wasn't asking for a launcher, I was asking for a background app like "Keep the Lights on" or "Set CPU."
I'm sorry for coming off as "arrogant" or a "snob" but he's digging too deep, asking questions he doesn't need the answer to. As well, his questions came off kind of rude to me. That's probably why I responded the way I did.
Anyways: Simple app that stops home screen rotation.
Smart Rotator (SmartDog Studio HK) and Smart Auto-Rotate (Asteri Software) are possible solutions.
Enough of the Off Topic posts and rudeness, I will not tolerate it.
Also to solve the problem, not sure if this is available on the Captivate, there is an extra button you can enable in the Power Control widget that allows you to lock the screen vertically.

Trusted Devices Question

When I use the trusted devices feature, I'm constantly uneasy with the idea that there's no lock screen. Not because of security but because of usability. I'm worried about pocket activations. I also miss the lock screen when playing music. I wake the phone to change the track and I see Chrome or whatever I was last using, instead of the beautiful KK lock screen. Basically, I'd like a way for my trusted device to unlock the door without removing the door. Is there a setting I'm missing somewhere for requiring a swipe or something like that on the lock screen?

If you're asking if there is a stock setting in the phone to do this, then the answer is no. At least, not with the current version of Trusted Devices (TD).
However, there is a workaround that involves third party lock screen replacement apps. To use your analogy of the door, what you could do is put a screen door in front of the main door. Then when TD removes the main door completely, as it does now, your screen door will remain to do what you wanted. It's a bit quirky though. I tried this with free version of Holo Locker (HL), very small minimalist one-permission KK lockscreen. You can try others but I'll refer to HL in this example.
So to make this work I find you need to do two things:
1) set HL to lock only, no security. if you set HL security TD will treat it like the regular lock screen and disable it. So you can't just disable the stock security and use HL by itself with security enabled.
2) after you install HL and have it running, you have to re-enable your regular security. That is, go into security and redo your pattern lock or pin or whatever. if you don't do that your stock security lock will stay replaced by HL, even when TD is not running. Note that when everything is working, and when TD is not running, you will have two doors, a screen door and a main door. of course, you can set the main door to only close at certain intervals. Like, if you set the stock security lock to thirty minutes, you'll basically be only dealing with the screen door HL most of the time. when TD is running of course you'll only deal with HL.
what about the question regarding music, not wanting to see the last app you were on but rather go elsewhere instead?
Most 3rd party lockscreens have shortcuts for this sort of thing. Even the free version of HL let's you replace the search and camera shortcuts, and since it let's you replace them with whatever app, you can choose your music app and go directly there. HL also has the Home button visible, so you can use that to go directly to the home screen.
Another option for music is to use a music app that has its own lock screen replacement. For example, Rocket Player has such a setting, not on by default, third option under Operations->Lockscreen Options. if you use your music app's lockscreen you'd probably not want another third party lock screen like HL on top of that, or at least turn turn it off while running the music app.
Like I said, Holo Locker was just the example i tried to experiment with. There are tons of such apps in the play store with different features, try a few. There's even an open source one called Pi Locker here on xda check it out too.
Wow, that's really helpful. Thanks.

[Q] Replace the Amazon Lockscreen

Is there anyway to replace the lockscreen

I tried to do this a week ago (non-root) and could not find a standalone lock-screen app that would actually replace the Amazon one. Some wouldn't run at all, and the rest would appear only after the Amazon one, which of course defeats the purpose.
I did find one thing that works though. I use Smart Launcher 3 as my launcher, and Smart Launcher 3 has a built-in lock-screen option. I enabled that and it has worked perfectly ever since. I never see the Amazon lock screen anymore and the SL3 lock screen is very nice.

Yeah I have tried the same thing, the one thing I usually run across is the fact that amazon has a modified settings app and lock screens can't be enabled. I really just want to disable the amazon one completely if I can and replace it. I have root and Xposed installed.
Can root be used here to replace the amazon settings so we can use a custom lock screen?
I really want to use google now when the device is locked and be able to switch songs from google play without having to unlock the device?
EDIT: Oops! Miss-read this!
Root device.
Install TWO launchers for safety (I used APEX and Google Now).
Save a copy of the fire launcher and then delete the fire launcher using root.
This will leave your tablet in a buggy state. REBOOT.
Then pressing home will let you chose your default launcher. I used Google Now.
Check the end of this video for a play-by-play:

I attempted to search for something obvious through pm list, no specific apk file, probably integrated into system UI, I suppose a more experienced member will have to look, as I am in no way an expert.

With nova launcher you can add an 'activities shortcut' to settings.
On my phone this lets me get to settings options that are not usually visible in the settings menu.
Has anyone tried this with the fire? ( I don't have a fire 7 yet)

Fire 7 Not rooted with launch hijacker and nova launcher Widget Help

Hi All,
I have a Fire 7 which i am using solely for a media and smart home remote. I specifically chose this device as it is cheap and had the alexa built into the home button.
I have made some changes to the device but not rooted it as don't want to completely loose some of the amazon features i.e. home button press for alexa.
I have installed play store and hijack launcher and have nova launcher installed. I find that some some widgets work and some don't. I am struggling with IFTTT widget and beautiful widgets at the mo. basically i install them either via the app store or an .apk and when click on the widget and try to place it on the homescreen it throws up the tablet settings menu, if i exit this it does not add the widget? can anyone advise why this is or if it can be solved. If i add a RM pluggin tasker widget it lets me and allows me to setup the button but but for the other two it doesn't?
any help appreciated.
regards jon

if i go to settings, display, i have a setting called display sleep mode which you can set but this only dims the screen and does not turn it off? an suggestions?

Applock Feature?

I have one simple question.
Is this app lock feature tied to asus launcher or system???
What happens if i use third party launcher?? Do i loose applock feature if i use third party auncher and reset asus launcher and disable it??
Thinking of purchasing nova launcher. so asking.
Help will be appreciated.
Lil Workaround required
Yes, there is an app lock feature. If you are using a third party launcher it seems the feature can't be accessed directly BUT it can still be used. If you quickly switch to your Asus launcher in settings you then long press on the home screen, hit "preferences" in the bottom corner then "AppLock" you can then lock apps. Once that is done simply go back to your desired launcher and the selected apps will require a password/finger print to access.
Kinda silly it can't be accessed via the 3rd party launcher but considering how little I need to go in and lock new apps, its not a terrible work around. Nova launcher is worth it.
