im using nik's trinity rom sensation xl 4.5 .. my wifi keeps going off after a while when i press the power button n the screen goes off .. its like it disconnects the wifi in standby mode :S

It's entirely possible that it does. Try another rom if it's a problem.

Have you checked your power options?
if you are on power saver mode (if the rom supports that), then every time your phone locks all network will be disconnected to save battery.

I'm using the 14_M radio right now with this rom. Been using this radio since yesterday morning and I haven't had the wifi drop or disconnect as of yet that I'm aware of. Might want to give it a try.

Check the advanced options in Wi-Fi menu of settings, maybe the Wi-Fi sleep policy settings are set to OFF whenever SLEEP/SCREEN OFF. Change it to ALWAYS ON, or NEVER WHEN CHARGING. Tends to drain the battery a lot more, if set to always on. I use wifi manager by Kostya Vasiliyev (available in the Google play store) to get fast WiFi lock-on after screen on/wake.

[Q]Anyone got crash or reboot issue when using juice defender or green power?

I had got reboot issue in FR15 or FR18 rom if wifi manager by green power
disable wifi manager it will be ok, but power will not down.
the reboot will happen at P990 screen off and green power control wifi on.
Yes - the wireless driver is ****
Have been using JD for a while now and it's managing three wifi spots without any problems and reports to be increasing my battery by 2.3 - 2.8. I'm using stock though.
I had tried CM7 rom, and it's ok
I think the issue will only happen in Madoco rom
I can confirm, using Modaco and I also have the reboots... Wifi seems to be the problem, when JD manages Wifi the phone will reboot within 15 mins (depending on the settings in JD). After reboot, wifi is turned of completely... too bad since I really like both... (MCR and JD)
i can also confirm the wifi problem with jd and gp. using modaco fear vanilla fr17.

Yes, I am using Bazing Dragon 1.8 and JD Ultimate. I have reboots when "automatic ally turn off 3G and wifi" is selected.
same to me, seems to be a wifi problem. when jd oder gp is switching connections the mobile reboots... (modaco fear vanilla 10)

[Q] Vivid not coming out of 4G idle

I've been noticing this problem with my vivid since I bought it 4 days ago. If I havent used it in a hour or so and I try to connect to any Internet site it fails with no connection.
The 4G indicator is on, but no curved lines showing activity. I assume it is in idle, but will not come out.
The workaround I am currently using is disable and re-enable 4G data.
Does this sound normal? Has anyone else noticed this? While searching I found a few related posts but most were from a few years ago.
Usage so far has been in San Jose (No LTE yet), signal shows a few bars, over (-100 db).
Try going to Settings - Power, and make sure power efficiency, power saver, and sleep mode boxes are unchecked. This should fix the issue but you may see a slight decrease in battery life.

Power Efficiency was already off
Power Saver was set to turn on at 10%
I just disabled sleep mode. That might have been it. Only time will tell.
Any idea what the default idle time is for sleep mode to be engaged? and what exactly happens in sleep mode?
With sleep mode enabled, network connections are disabled when the screen is off. I've noticed the network connections also don't appear to reconnect once you turn your screen back on for some reason unfortunately.

Did you saved changes when you changed the wifi to be off when screen is off?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk
Yes i saved the settings
I tried this on Kk2 and LA4
And same result not working
same for me with Cassie's Xtra lite and Franco kernel V5. Then as advised, i use now green power to switch off/on automatically wifi and datas connexions.. better than nothing.
I use Llama to do this. It does exactly what I want, shuts down WiFi 1 minute after I turn the screen off unless charging on mains, turns it back on on open, but only if I am at home or work.
That gives me everything I want (I have some apps that only sync when charging to save battery).

Strange problem with my note

Hi
Im running rooted note with darky rom 3.3 and franco's test kernal with no probs up to about two days ago. Now for no reason I can see battery life has dropped drastically and some of my installed apps either do not open at all or some open then just fc. I haven"t installed any new apps in past several days. Checking batt stats it tells me the note is nearly constantly awake with with wifi awake aswell but shows no app or process including wakelocks running that can account for this. Has anyone have any idea what could be causing this and hopefuly a fix.
Thanks
Ingott

BetterBatteryStats or Badass Battery Monitor will help you pinpoint the app/process causing wakelocks and thus preventing your Note from going to sleep.
Have checked with betterbattstats and no app is running causing this problem. I have wifi set to on only when screen is on but wifi is constantly awake this is causlng batt drain I believe. Also my installed apps no longer work they fc and some dont even start. Since my last post I have reinstalled darky rom and franco kernal but still getting the same problems.

I have the same wifi problem !
I have rocket rom V23 and abyss kernel 4.2
BBS shows no wake lock and kernel wake lock but when the wifi is connected the phone wont go to sleep and its awake and drain battery !
if I turn off the wifi it will sleep and battery drain will decrease to 0.4-0.5 % per hour.
my wifi policy is set to sleep when screen is off but when i turn off screen the wifi is still awake and i can see it connected in my router lan page and also I can ping it too.
any one has any idea ?
I have found the 'sleep while screen is off' to be very poor. I now use Llama to turn the WiFi off 1 minute after the screen turns off (in case I forget something and go back), and turn it on when the screen comes on, but only if I am at the Home or Work locations. It now works exactly as I want.

thanks for your suggestion.
I just found Batteryfu very useful for NOW !!!
it has good options for wifi and mobile data, also has options for night mode, screen on, screen lock/unlock, while charging ,...
will test it for a day or 2 and will post my observations .
Thanks for all the replies..
I have found what works for me. I wiped kernal using jBroid then installed a different kernal to what I had installed rebooted a couple of times. I then wiped again using jBroid then re-installed my originall kernal again. This solved my problems. Suspect kernal got corrupted somehow then the wipe and overwrite sorted it out. Thanks to darky rom dev robbie hood for the heads up on this.

And my problem went away just by restarting my note.

[Q] Does wifi turn off during sleeping mode?

Hi to everyone. I forgat to turn my wifi off during my working hours. In the nd of my shift, i check my battery and it was proximately %5 left and even i didnt use the phone during my shift. it was %50 or something before starting. Does wifi still work even on the sleeping mode?
Thanks guys
no it stays on unless you set up the power saving mode i use custom settings so that wifi etc will turn off at 40% battery
wi-fi is a big battery drainer. Always have it off if you don't need it. Same with gps, data, and auto-sync for various accounts
Try using juice defender. I think the free version always you to enable wifi control (after your phone goes into sleep mode it should turn off the wifi until you wake it up)
Sent from my MB870 using XDA Premium App
juice defender is in itself a battery drainer. don't use those "battery saver" apps. they're all bs. just get in a habit of turning off connections manually when you don't need them.
Are you aware of the setting: wifi settings/advanced/wifi sleep policy and set it to sleep when screen turns off?

Thanks I didn't know about that setting, but my question is once wifi turns off mobile data kicks in. Which drains battery more? Wifi or mobile data?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2
They both drain battery equally as much. Mobile data shouldn't kick in unless you have it toggled on.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
Use Green Power to automatically disable wifi and data when the phone goes into stand by. There are lots of settings like enabling wifi at certain intervals to sync email/whatsapp/other push services.
On GB for me it's the difference between losing 25% battery overnight without it and losing only 3% when it's enabled and that's with sync every hour.
It seems that on any ICS rom wifi doesn't use any juice even when enabled in standby. Because of the kernel bug in the leaks I'm now on the official CM9 rom and after almost 9 hours with wifi turned on I only lost 4%, on every other ICS rom I tried I get the same results.

I tried juice defender ultimate but connection was on and off and time to time it took ridiculous amount of time to get the connection back :/ also I don't know why with juice defender I noticed sluggish performance phone, after uninstalling everything was much more snappy.
I have wifi on all the time and I only lose about 2-3% over night on stock, I guess it's fine the way it is for me without using all those battery "saver" apps.

I disagree. I definitely get power savings with JD compared to without it. Auto-disabling WiFi saved loads of power for a start, and my overnight drain has gone from 3-5%, to approx 1% with JD running. I'm not saying all batt saver apps are worth using, but JD works for me.
Its a lot easier to have a well-behaved app that DOESN'T use a lot of power itself manage your connection toggling rather than having to remember to do it yourself.

Wrong. WiFi uses more power. Its a separate transmitter being driven by the battery, whereas as mobile data will use the existing transmitter (phone) that's already on, but obviously drive it a little harder than if it was all off.
