[Q] Is galaxy note actually worth, because... - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hey y'all..
I currently own a nokia n96..it used ta be the bomb a few years back before android dived out of nowhere..
I am guna buy the gnote in 1st week of june..
I just am in luv wit it, but with the galaxy s3 coming on may 3rd.
Should i go for gnote monster, or order the samsung s3 when it comes..due to the quad core reason nd rumored 12MP camera.
Still i think that the gnotes screen and the upcoming special luxury ics update coming, it cud be betr.
But plz stil heeeelp.!

Frankly, I don't see why would one actually need a quad-core, except for heavy gaming. Note's dual-core is more than capable to deal with any tasks I can think of, and then some. Also, 8mpix picture quality is more than enough for photo amateurs.
OTOH, Note's screen experience is second to none. You can even run it in tablet mode if you wish.
Note's only drawback is that you won't be able to switch to small phones once you start to use it.
SGSII feels like Toys-R-Us to me now.

SCREEN! The Screen is amazing, and honestly after using it a while I can't use any other screen anymore. Once you used this since all other phones seems for me as they are wrong. Childish, I not understand how I used them all the years.
To the Galaxy S3, let's wait what we actually are getting. quad-core, well sounds great, but the Note is flying compared to anything I had in my hands so far. I am not saying I have no look to the S3, but still the Note is the business tool I use 24/7. I even retired my ipad. The size and weight of the Note is perfectly fitting my needs.

The only reason to go with Quad-Core S3 is that Note might be too big. If it's not - go for Note. Seriously, you won't use even 50% of this CPU, not now, probably not even in a year.

should i b scared of buyin gnote, as i throw my phone a lot!?!
duudes.., main thing..should i root it after buying 'coz i reali dnt kno how cud it make the 'gnote' any betr..
I was thnking of getin launcher like adw ex launcher and make my fone like the one on youtube..just search for 'coldfusTion' on youtube nd i luv his homescreens.
Is ther anythin betr than that, if so plz inform?
Nd any tips?

i have adw and its great. If you do your homework you can get stock rom to your liking without flashing custom rom. Just takes a lot of time. Also remeber to backup your settings in adw.

Well LG is coming out with a large screen phablet. And HTC seems to be working on one with one nice specs as well (1080p screen!) Who knows when they are hitting though.

as a note owner, I would say if you are going to make the jump, wait for the quad-core note to come out. Then go

if the quad-core note should ever come out.. im not going to jump to the bandwagon unless Sammy can compensate the battery performance of a quad-core device...
we all know what's going on in OneX forums.. their primary concerns are though they have a quad-core phone up on their sleeves... the battery is better left unsaid... it last for just hours, barely making it even a day...
If we have to wait for quad-core phones, Manufacturers like Sammy itself should make up their ante to put a battery that would match it's processing power.....

I'd say wait for the SIII then decide , I've used an SII and now the note ,they are both fine devices but the S2 felt that little more refined than the Note.
Samsung takes more care of it's S- flagships than other Galaxy members.
as for quad cores being not needed now ,true but what about the future?
all I'm saying is wait and see ,in the end they are both very high end devices .

just got two mails conforming 1.4ghz exynos quad core on siii.
Is adw supported on ics?nd shud i format my fone when ics comes for gnote.

the quad core exynos yields 20% in battery savings compared to the dual core, from what sammy reports
also, pin to pin, it is the same as the dual core, so if samsung ever decides to upgrade the Note, it'll be a quick and easy update.
how nice it would be if we could change processors on our mobiles just like how we do on our own PCs.....
that aside, wait for the S3 and see what kind of screen it has. Super AMOLED on the Note is vibrant, no doubt, but the S2's SA Plus looks even better.

yeaaa..that wudave been great..installing new processors..bt i dnt thnk tht wud happen fr abt 5 or 6 years lol.
May 3rd cumin closer nd closer..
Any guess that how much would the s3 cost in euros!?my budget is €500..

Quadcore anything would devour your battery in a couple of hours.

This means that the Note2 will be able to use LESS power for the same load - i.e. for anything when not running 100% load.
Sure, if you are running it flat out then it will eat battery faster, but then there's a good chance if you're using maximum performance (recoding a video?) it'll take the same amount of energy just use it faster!
I can't see Samsung not producing a Note2-QC/4412.
What would also be nice is a super-amoled-plus-plus-true-hd+ screen.
I have sat on the fence about buying a Note, if the Note1 was heavily discounted I would consider one, but, I would probably regret not waiting for a couple months to get a Note2 once initial prices settled below "crazy".
But then I also like the padfone, which also has a pen.

[Q] love my SGS classic, why buy a SGS II ?

Hi,
Not a troll or flamebait, but I really can't find any reason to let go of
my trusty SGS (one) to get a shiny SGS II. A friend showed me his II and
it is taller than the classic and not really thiner (it seemed to me).
So the II would stick out a bit more from my pocket.
Is there any good reason to "upgrade" to a SGS II?
In my opinion the the upgrade from SGS to SGS II isnt worth the 500€, or well more like 300€ since you can probably get 200€+ from your SGS
Dual core, 1 GB RAM, SAMOLED+, 1080p recording, TW4... The list goes on and on.
Sent from my Infuse 4G
I got a SGS Galaxy II for a friend of mine, and could buy another for me heavily discounted, and still I didn't think twice and didn't upgrade from my precious i9000.
SGS Galaxy II advantages are minimal for my needs, there is no real breakthrough.
Probably will only upgrade when my i9000 dies on me.
I'm waiting for SGS3 as it will propably be 3D phone. I9000 to i9100 is too small upgrade for me as my i9000 can do 95% as smooth as I9100 games i play and roms i use.

HDMI, better CPU, much more RAM,... if it had 720p screen, I'd be drolling over it
I think the biggest difference I noticed when I played with one at the store, besides the RAM, was the faster SD speed. Installing apps seemed to be about 2-4x faster than on my SGS. Angry Birds, large program, installed pretty quickly maybe 5-7 seconds while it would be a bit of a wait 15+ seconds on my SGS. I would guess that the faster SD is mostly what makes the device much quicker and less laggy overall.
Still not dropping the cash to buy one though. I'll just want next year's model when it comes out...so I'll play with SGS gingerbread roms in the meantime to relax my trigger finger for now.
I would have upgraded in a heartbeat if the SGS2 would have had the exact identical form factor as the SGS.
I didn't think it would be that big of a deal until I got to try my friends phone.
It was an instant deal-killer after using it...

Agreed!!! I hope the SGS 3, comes with a 4.3" screen while still retaining the form factor similar to SGS (width in particular, should be lower as in SE Arc). If nothing works, 4" still would be enough.
For me, two things, that SGS 2 will definitely fix are the memory issue (browser tabs's data being lost, after multitasking) and maybe the GPS. (have tried most of the fixes, but voice navigation in car doesn't work all that well. maybe limitation of a mobile device, but I have a feeling SGS2 would fare much better).
Its too much too soon IMO.
Ive only had my SGS 1 for 7 months now, Upgrading to the SGS 2 is bizzare lol,
I mean, if i had the cash spare, i probably would, as would anyone else. But to me £200/300 is just waaaay to much for little gain.. Theres so much more that money could do for me.
Maybe in another 6 months i may think about the upgrade, But im loving my SGS 1 at the moment, Running MIUI, super smooth super fast, TW4 launcher, Great GPS, 720p recording, and lots more..... I dont need much more from a phone really.
I am going through the same debate in my head. I LOVE my sgs but the sgs2 is very tempting. For me the main pros are:
-Bigger screen
-Bigger battery
-Faster
-Camera flash
-Better/working gps (this is my assumption, anyone confirm?)
-The form factor, current sgs reminds me too much of an iphone.
-Hdmi out
I love my SGS.. The SGS2 looks much 'squarer' imo.
ok let me say my experience:
after buying the sgsII over the original, I can confirm that all the pros which people claimed r true
what is the difference between pentium 3 and 4? its nothing but the speed and performance.
having said that I gave sgs+cm 7 to my wife and she is pretty happy with it
this phone is not dead .....yet
so does the big question is SHALL U GUYS UPGRADE ??
I got my phone by a contract upgrade cause I needed to get a contract anyway
I am paying £27 for free phone+300min+unlimited sms+500mb on O2
but if I dont have the upgrade yet I would stay patient for couple of months waiting for the prices to fall.
Summary: this phone is a big leap on the old one, ull c the improvements in every single element . However, its worth holding ur breaths for a short while
I owned the S1 for 11 months, Initially I never thought the S2 would really offer anything better apart from the bigger screen and 50% more subpixels which is not noticeable anyway, but when I got the phone the speed difference is just amazing and I've decked out the SGS1 with tweaks (OneNAND mode / SpeedMod / 1.4Ghz OC) The difference is just so huge, w/o using the S2 you can say that the S1 is pretty smooth but once you start yung the S2 you can really say that the S1 was just fooling you in terms of smoothness. Multi tasking is awesome on the phone, no waiting time when switching between apps/tasks the phone is actually waiting on you. Its pretty impressive and worth the jump for me.. Imagine this is running on an OS with almost no dualcore optimizations..
The only edge the S1 has over the S2 is the quality control of the screen on the S1 is far far better than the S2.

No, it's 50% more.
The SGS is:
R G | B G | R G
The SGS II is:
R G B | R G B | R G B
In both cases, 3 pixels. One has 6 subpixels, the other 9.

For anyone having issues or even a slow GPS on the SGS, take a look at this thread.
This virtually fixed all of my GPS issues just by applying OP's config...
Dual Core & 1Gb RAM of the SGS2 is very tempting! But because I'm a music fan, I really hate the Yamaha DAC on the SGS2. Tested it a couple of times and it just blows a$$!
SGS1 + Voodoo is so much better!
I'm still waiting for the next batch of SGS2 that will have Wolfson DAC in it and probably 1.4Ghz Processor & bigger internal memory!

I have found that in general these fixes, would increase the locking speed. But, didn't find it to perform very well, when it comes to tracking the device when moving. (maybe, that is the limit of SGS? inside car, with windows closed, there is bound to be quite a lot of attenuation)
currently using galnets miui on the sgs...I'm also not sure whether or not the upgrade to the sgs2 is worthy (yet) ?

[Q] Considering upgrading from S2, anything to worry about ?

Hello,
As the tittle already says, currently I am considering buying the Note and selling my S2. Im not a noob and consider myself as a power user. I like to tweak the sh*t out of my phone. Im currently running cyanogenmod on S2 with syiah and this is why I am writing this. I am aware that the Note is almost the same hardware as S2 and I am wondering about few things:
Is cyanogenmod 7/9 coming to the Note ?
What do you think, will developers support the note ? I mean, the S2 section is overflowing with roms, kernels etc, I wonder if there are any kernels with cpu undervolting, gpu undervolting/clocking etc.
The screen, ive seen some rumours that it uses the old amoled tech with fewer subpixels from S1, I didnt like that on S1, is that true ?
Im sorry to bother you, these are just a few questions I am having in my head before going to the store I love my S2, I dont mind the big screen, actually its the reason I want to upgrade... I would be very grateful for any replies, I am sure it will help few other undecided people too
Thanks for reading
I wouldn't buy the Note instead of your SII. It's too little of an upgrade for the $$$.
Unless the screen means everything to you (yes, it's beautiful).
CyanogenMod isn't released for the Note yet, but it probably will be pretty soon. Same goes for stock Ice Cream Sandwich.
i wasnt blown away when i upgraded from sgs2 to the note but still if u absolutely want a bigger screen than yeah go for it u wont be dissapointed in that respect.
Same as the rest of the comments. But, take into consideration that the custom launchers are not yet optimized for the Note, at least most of them. You'll need to wait for some upgrades.
The screen and resolution are...
My note will be here tomorrow, you guys are bumming me out. I have a i9100 now and thought the notes screen would be a big improvement.
The Note's screen IS a big improvement! It makes the phone. It does use the pentile subpixel layout, but the resolution is high enough and they've optimized the software to where it's the best screen you can currently buy in a mobile device. In My Humble Opinion. I literally haven't touched my tablet since the day my note arrived in the mail. I came from the GSII, also, and things like web browsing are no contest superior on the Note.

yes, CM7 and 9 are being worked on.
When will they be done? Who knows.
Will developers support it? Who can tell? We have people doing ROMS already.
I'm sure you are aware that in this first gen set of kernels, the Note will be laggier than your S2. I'd suggest also browsing through the FAQ in my sig for a lot more info.
- Frank
Go for it. I went from the S2 (via a detour to the GN) to the Note and love it. My advice is think about what you want it for. it if's video and web browsing then go for it, if its more as a phone and making loads of calls then maybe not.
Also i'm seeing much better battery life with my usage when compared to the S2.

like every new popular device, it takes time for the devs to get it & create a ROM for it.
There are some differences between the S2 and the Note... u can`t use the same Kernel and ROM. I talked to one Developer and in his opinion there will be no C 7 for Note... they´re still working on a ICS-ROM . At this time there are only a few C-ROM´s for the Note. They are almost buggy... If u come from Silya Kernel u will miss the very good performance of this Kernel and also the features ( call recording, reboot,...)
BTW u have the opinion to flash this features via CWM an mods to the Note..

Damn, thats a VERY cheap move from samsung on such an expensive handset. I was about to order the handset today, but I will go to the shop to check out the screen more extensively. I hated it on S1. And I sure will hate it on note... Why do they do this, its pretty much FAKE HD screen, because the number of subpixels is lower than on sub-HD S2 screen...
Gonna check it out tommorow and I will decide.

By all means do check it out because of course it's a fair bit of money to drop on a new toy, but the screen density makes up for that very issue you're concerned about.
I came from a GSII and I have a mate who owns a Captivate. The difference between the two screens are immediately visible. Comparing my Note's screen to the GSII is however, a matter left to microscopes. Chances are you wont have the Note held 6 inches or less away from your face, which is where it just starts to become noticeable and that's even if you're looking for it.
Remember, the Galaxy Nexus and Droid RAZR both have (currently) higher-than-usual resolution screens using pentile SAMOLED displays. It's still slightly visible on the RAZR, but not so on the Nexus. It really truly is a great display.
As a side note, I took a bite ordering mine without ever handling one before, and I'm completely satisfied.
I sold my sgs2 in fqvour of a galaxy note, and can never go back. the sgs2 is smoother, the note has a lot of hiccups. but I can't use a regular phone anymore, everything is just to tiny.
Also, the biggest advantage besides the screen is the batterylife, it is the first phone that will last the whole day, the sgs2 was horrible in this departement!
so basically; better screen, better batterylife... but less smooth (still very fast though).
This is my first android phone, came from an iPhone 3gs, so no real comparison. I do have a few friends with the SGS2.
I agree with all the posts above. The screen is awesome, and even the Nexus seems small compared. I personally prefer having hardware buttons as further increases real-estate. Also agree with some of the lag issues, specifically with browser use. Have played around with the Nexus and ICS has some pretty significant improvements regarding speed and smoothness and i have no doubt that these will be passed down to the Note.
At the moment, this phone can,t be beaten IMHO

[thoughts] What the S5 needs to do before April 11th to earn my money

Well, THAT happened 10 hours ago........
The launch for the S5 came and my enjoyment faded pretty quickly. You can see from my track record in my signature that I've been a pretty loyal customer of Samsung for quite some time now, and this may be the first Galaxy launch that I won't have a pre-order in the system. Other than stepping away from the Galaxy line to pick up the Atrix 4G, the first mass produced phone with a fingerprint scanner, coincidentally, I've enjoyed only Samsung phones for the last 4 years. The "premium version" of the S5 was supposed to be 5th in line, what with the 20MP camera, metal body, G-Note 3 battery size, 5.25" screen - you've seen it all and read it all, it didn't show up today. Now unless Samsung is about to pull the biggest stunt they've ever pulled, the Unpacked5 event is in the books and we're not getting anything more than what we got today.
Is there any positive that came out of this event? Sure! USB 3.0 is a big thing for me as I have lots of 3.0 gear and want that from my next phone, it's dust and water resistant, cool fingerprint scanner providing it works flawlessly unlike the one on the iThing, updated TouchWiz which (try not to judge) I actually like a little bit, the wearables, the bigger focus on health, better processor, camera, and connectivity, but then comes the let downs, especially for S4 owners. Same 1080p screen at almost the same size, same 2GB of memory, almost the exact same front camera, soon to be the same OS (again, I like TW so I'm sticking it out on 4.3 until the TW 4.4.2 comes out), same plastic body that I don't necessarily mind, but would have appreciated a little change other than just putting dimples in the back cover, and probably worst of all to me, they're offering it in a 16GB format again after what they just did to us who pre-ordered and / or early adopted the S4, sticking us with next to nothing for internal space because they believe everyone has kids and needs to have likely a ton of space dedicated to a kid mode with pre-installed games and crap. I'm single and not looking for that anytime soon!!! It's like they claimed to listen to their customers but only those who are married, have children, want a "modern glam look," whatever the hell that means, and work out enough to bring their phone with them while exercising!
Damn that's a lot of negatives so far. So what can Samsung do between now and launch to earn my money short of releasing their ultra premium version that was supposed to exist but doesn't, and calling this one the S5 Neo? Let's take a look, and please, feel free to help me add to this list!
Ship the phone with an unlocked bootloader - I know, fat chance, right? But if you don't want people complaining about lack of storage, let us kill it off as we see fit! I also know it isn't up to Samsung on this, the carriers are the ones being douchebags about it, but Samsung put their foot down with them previously by stopping them from dictating all the individual revisions when they launched the SIII, making them all the same shape and size, so why can't they force their hand on this in the sake of making even the smallest group of their customers happy - those that truly use the phone for what it was meant for!
Negate the 16GB version - this is obvious, why the hell is this even a thing anymore with Samsung.... just get rid of it if you're not going to slim down this ridiculously large ROM of yours! Ship with the 32GB at minimum and announce the 64GB as well. iThings do this as a standard now, and while iSheep love to keep their music on their device and we have this little thing called external storage and another little thing called Google Music, we don't have to, but seriously, cut the crap and ditch the 16GB model!
Allow us to remove certain features we just aren't going to use, EVER - as I stated already, I don't have kids and don't need a Kids Mode. If you aren't going to let us root the thing AND aren't going to launch it with more than 16GB, let me get rid of the damn Kids Mode. Or the health features. Or anything else I decide useless or unnecessary. When looking at pics of the camera settings on the S5, I'm able to download more features as I see fit - why not make some of this crap downloadable and not don't ship it with the device? Why not make an Aroma-like installer when you first boot it and say "hey, would you like all of this crap or just some of it?" like any PC software does when it installs something - Typical or Custom installation. Sounds like I'm asking for a lot here, but really, I'm asking to not be forced a lot that I really won't use. And before you comment that if I don't need it, don't buy it in the first place, there are so many things I love about my S4 and TouchWiz that I'm not planning to part with in order to have "a phone," my N7 has a purpose and it isn't so I can keep the screen on when I need it just by looking at it. It does great for playing movies on a trip but not for letting me change the channel of my big TV when I want to watch a blockbuster movie....
Ship with at least the S805 processor for crying out loud - if you're not going to blow us away with something new and powerful, at least ship it with the very latest processor this time from Qualcomm. The 800 has been out for months, the 801 is obviously an incremental update over the 800, and the 805 isn't that much better, but at least give us the goods instead of just going along with the same processor found in the N5 and G-Note 3. I don't think we've heard which one for sure will be included, but from what I've read, so far they say it's the 800 or the 801. EDIT - it's the 801, confirmed by Qualcomm....
Include wireless charging in the box - I shouldn't have to say this, wireless charging is now old technology, the SIII had the capability but not the attention or love needed for Samsung to just release the official cover, the S4 cover took 3 months to post online for sale, and with all the competition shipping their phones with it included, why aren't we able to get it without paying $50+ for it? I used a 50% off coupon to get it for $25, but that's $25 more than I should have spent after being let down on a promise that the SIII was supposed to be able to do it on a phone with nearly useless internal storage....
Sell us some legit accessories this time, namely a car dock - I'm always impressed when people recognize me from my review on the only working car dock for the S4 since Samsung decided to screw around with the whole thing and make my Infuse dock useless. It worked on the Skyrocket and SIII, and would have fit the S4 except it wasn't possible to get the thing working properly by charging and outputting dock audio on it, so it's collecting dust in a box right now. Sure, I get it, you want to sell me something new instead of letting me use the same one for my last phone, and that's different than what you are doing (or didn't do?) with the wireless charging cover, but in this situation, you're not even selling me one! The S4 sold tens of millions of devices, did you stop and think that maybe ONE of them would be going in a car and being used for playing music or navigating that owner safely from one place to another?
?
?
?
That's all I got for now, I'm sure we can come up with more and while I highly doubt Samsung is listening to people like me, one of their 200M customers (I'd like to think I counted 4 times for buying 4 iterations of the Galaxy line), there's always a chance someone is listening. I bet they'll listen when they're trying to figure out why the sales figures are going to be monumentally lower this go-round, that's for sure!!!
A note to fanboys of all kinds, Samsung, HTC, Nokia, iThing, etc - let's keep it clean here, please. You haven't heard me bash anyone else here, even Samsung really, so please don't get this thread locked on me. I'm sure you have witty comments like Nokia and HTC have today, with their "Samesung," "Buyers Remose," and even the most original ones like telling me that you're disappointed or this phone is ugly.... As if we haven't seen those comments before. Be original if Samsung isn't, post something relevant to the discussion if you're going to post at all! I don't waste my time on writing this stuff to insult others, so don't do it to insult me. If you were never considering buying it, you don't have any reason to comment on here because nothing you're going to say will come across as helpful to myself or others. If you were considering buying it or even, dare I say switching from another brand, or actually will be buying this phone - let's discuss intelligently your reasons why!

FM radio..
In Slovenia in past month we have major electric blackdown becouse of mother nature - no internet no nothing.. but FM radio did work.. on my S2 I could still listen what is happening, but on newer device.. bljah.. must have tool which cost them 1 euro cent per device..

I agree with all you say. Particularly about wireless charging, and accessories which get launched with fanfare and then never see the light of day. The other thing they could do is to put one of the new gear items in the box too. That would be a good sweetener. Lol.

NO KNOX!!! Or forget about Custom ROMs and warranty.

How do you know it doesn't ?
Two points here:
1. I see you are American, and that in the US the carriers **** in their customers' heads when it comes to freedom. The international S4 has an unlocked bootloader, it has been like that since the original S.
2. The Snapdragon 805 isn't available yet, sadly.
And why isn't 2GB of RAM enough? I have 300+ apps here, 9 accounts syncing and available RAM never goes below 700MB.
I'm going to point something out to everyone here that wants Samsung to get rid of security features such as locked bootloaders or Knox.
We are the minority. Do you Expect Samsung to tailor to us and risk the average consumer's information and safety so people can run an AOSP build or a custom kernel?
Ship the phone with an unlocked bootloader - I know, fat chance, right? But if you don't want people complaining about lack of storage, let us kill it off as we see fit! I also know it isn't up to Samsung on this, the carriers are the ones being douchebags about it, but Samsung put their foot down with them previously by stopping them from dictating all the individual revisions when they launched the SIII, making them all the same shape and size, so why can't they force their hand on this in the sake of making even the smallest group of their customers happy - those that truly use the phone for what it was meant for!
Click to collapse
While I'm not excusing the US carriers for doing this, but why do you think they try to steer people away from rooting and unlocking the bootloader? People mess up, brick their phone, and then try to do a warranty claim on them. They're protecting their profits, and as a business you cannot blame them for that. Anyone else here would do the same thing to retain profits. And what do you mean "use the phone for what it was meant for?" The phone is meant to be a mobile multimedia cellular device, which in fact still does on the software it ships with no problem.
Click to collapse
I do agree with this, I don't see too much point of the 16gb version. Still at least gives you a start of 10gb of storage at least.

You can disable features you don't need. But just because you decide a feature you think is useless or unnecessary, does not translate to everyone else will think this too. I like the kids mode feature, I've got kids and nephews that get my phone somehow all the time.(Anyone with kids can attest to that too! ) I'm sure people will love this feature.

This is Qualcomm's area right here, ARM cpus are following the development of x86 cpus. Meaning it's reached a point now where development for ARM cores is slowing down, tremendously. We probably won't see any groundbreaking ARM cpu's come out for maybe at least a year or so now, took x86 cpus years to show good and cost effective performance gains.

Now you're just being greedy.
I do agree with this, but also at the same time there are 100s of other companies making accessories that Samsung does not make.
Samsung is not going to tailor the phone just for one person or a small group, they're doing it for what they believe are the best choices for their devices. Looking at their track record of the Galaxy line up, I'd say they've got it down pretty good.
Why do u need a 2k screen on a 5" device? It eats battery life, it bogs down cpu and gpu performance for something that your eyes can't notice. I cant even see a pixel on my s4.

My wishlist for S5 -Premium
1. 5.2" inches screen in body-size of S4. It's not too hard if they look at LG G2.
2. Radio FM, and playable via loudspeaker.
3. Good camera in low light condition.
4. Smaller bezel, by aluminum.
5. QHD display.
6. Better performed in drop-test, maybe
7. Keep removable battery + external SDcard.
8. Snapdragon 805 or Exynos 64bit octa-cores.
9. Only 1 "main" international version, both have LTE-A, 4K video rec etc...
10. Wireless charging included.
11. Ram 3G
12. At least 32 GB internal memory, like Note 3.
13. Fingerprint inside screen.
14. Max brightness at 600nit, like Note3.
15. Flash Xenon for camera and flash led for Camcorder.
16. 120 fps video recording at 1080p
17. Not too heavy. <150g.
18. Clearer audio recording, noise reduction.
19. Stereo sound on louder speaker like HTC One.
20. A better earphone with improved DAC
21. Sapphire glass for screen and camera lens.
22. Dust and water resistant is good, but I hope it will not affect the bezels.
23. Remove Samsung logo in the front and rear. Just Galaxy.
24. Note 3 fake leather still better than this S5C, or aluminum body.
25. Working, interchangeable for S-pen or any stylus pen, docking, etc
26. Front camera 5MP, rear 18MP
27. Hot plugged battery, SIM and microSD card without restart phone.
28. Include an projector like Galaxy Beam
29. USB 3.1
30. Removable and downloadable all bloatware, Knox, gesture...
31. 3000 mAh battery
32. New flat Touchwiz, it's still ugly.
33. Touchwiz fully runnable in ART and compatible with any pixel density.
34. Free lags, especially open the contacts/dialer must be faster.
35. Dual boot Android & WP, maybe triple with Ubuntu or GPE rom.
36. Update firmware at least 24 months, not like i9300.
37. Not too many versions in worldwide.
38. For some sharing features like Galaxy Beam, Samsung should share this app to works on other Android devices, (now we only have Android Beam).
The same for SS smart watch, smartTV....
39. Still support Adobe flash (it's not SS or GG obligation, but I hope it).
40. Improved airview and air gestures in smarter way than before (Example: hover finger on the links help user preview link, not zooming like now). Open the API for all the sensors function and support the developers to create much good app based on them.

When kitkat was being written all the engineers had to use a smart phone with only 512 mb of RAM.
This will be moot tho with TouchWiz which is the most bloated god awful software on Android. 2gb IS enough yet the s4 still suffered from lag.
With the newer processors not being available yet Samsung should have focused on design. They put zero effort into that. This will be their first flop in the galaxy line. And by flop I mean by their standards. It will still sell millions.

this is so true. people just want a better spec sheet not realizing going above 1080p will actually lower benchmarks particularly with the s800 and 801 being the only SoC available now. To get something you probably wont even notice you will be sacrificing just about everything else performance wise.

Come on It was a pretty common bug on the s4. I have a Samsung tab note 10.1 and it lags considerably.
I've had numerous HTC phones over the years and sense has been toned down quite a bit. sense 3.0 was a system draining nightmare.
I really don't think you can compare a straight android ROM to A samsung rom and say with a straight face this makes no difference on performance or lag.
Just compare the size of a nexus 7 rom to any s4 rom.

Sure, the Note 10.1 is slow, but the problem isn't how light or heavy the ROM is, the lag happens because the Java-based Android Runtime isn't a optimized as iOS, for example.

It's actually dalvik at runtime. Dalvik virtual machine and kitkat is optimized quite well.
When you add a huge amount of code on top of that of course it will change the performance.

Damn.

Why you shouldn't wait for a better phone

Despite every single phone that has came out in the history of cellular phones, not once has a "perfect" phone been created. The logic that people use the majority of the time for holding off on the latest flagship is ALWAYS flawed.
What people need to realize is that its pointless to wait for the next big thing when it comes to cell phones. The features that cell phones have are a matter of designer preference, with input from the population. The problem is that just like anything else, there's going to be a majority, and a minority. The majority get their features, the minority doesn't. People tend to be so hard on these manufacturers for design choices, spec choices, etc., but what they don't understand, you can't please everyone, so why are you expecting them to?
If you are due for an upgrade, and this phone is somewhat appealing to you, just buy it. Spare yourself the months of bitxhing about your current phone while you wait for a new phone. Because I guarantee that when that phone comes out that you think is perfect, a better phone will come out 3-6 months later, and you'll be kicking yourself for jumping the gun.
At the current rate technology is evolving, there is no sense in "waiting around" for a better phone, because there's always going to be a better phone. Get it?
Those who are getting the Note 4, enjoy. You're going to own a powerhouse of a phone.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. There is no way to factually prove an opinion. You can only provide evidence to support your opinion. I tell my wife that I'm the perfect man. I even give her evidence but at the end of the day she points out that everyone is entitled to their opinions. It's just that mine happen to be wrong.

I trialed using my galaxy nexus in the interim waiting on Note 4 to arrive (sold off my Note 3 early)....I lasted about 3 days before I decided I couldn't handle that old thing. Definitely time to upgrade.

Especially when using keyboard ( tested on multiple keyboards) There is no way I'm the only one experiencing this lol if anyone has any tips...Please share with me.

In my opinion, it's one of the older ones that still runs decently. Most likely due to all the support from Google.
True the tech is evolving so much, there is a 'better' phone every 2 months. But that doesn't mean note 4 will be classified as old anytime soon. And by the time it does, i am sure most of the people have already switched/thinking about switching their phone.
And I am gonna upgrade from galaxy ace..so a very big upgrade for me:. Maybe my tab will be left almost unused now

Folks have to live with compromise, no way around it. You can wait for the next best one that will upgrade something but you will still live with compromises.

yep i agree. the only reason that i am thinking of getting the note 4 (on pre-order as I have until tomorrow to decide) is because of the Samsung promotion. i might as well get value for my htc sensation (current trade in value is $11) and there will come a time when my note 2 becomes non-functional
I think we've reached a point now where the marginal improvement is going to be lower for each generation.
Moore's Law has ended. The cost per transistor for SOCs is lowest at 28nm. 20nm will mean higher costs per transistor. At the same time, the marginal performance gain per node will probably drop, while the capital costs for the next node are rising. EUV and 450mm wafers are problem plagued. This in turn, limits performance potential. That means only architectural improvements are possible. Perhaps they could make bigger dies, although this might cost more. That said, with margins for smartphones still high at the high end, large dies might be practical.
Cameras are probably at their limit now for reasons of physics. Only way to make them better is to make them bigger, which is what Nokia has done. It will never rival a DSLR though.
There's limited room for improvement in terms of performance too because of heat and battery life.
On that note, one area for potential improvement might be battery life. It will mean transitioning from lithium ion batteries though.
Speakers might be an area for improvement for Samsung (something like what HTC has done), but otherwise there's limited room for improvement.
Internal storage may benefit from 3D NAND, but it seems like SSDs progress is slowing, so it's inevitable that phone progress in this front will too. SD cards will also be affected.
We will probably see some improvement in terms of display technology. Amoled is now high end a pixel density that the Pentile is not a drawback, and perhaps the Blue subpixel will be given more life. Perhaps we will see better daylight visibility too and more efficient Amoled technology. This might improve battery life somewhat. Otherwise, we are near a very good display - high enough PPI not to be annoying, bright enough to be relatively visible in sunlight (according to Displaymate), well calibrated, and with lower power consumption then the previous generation.
64 bit processing might lead to more performance and take advantage of a lot of RAM. It'll be a while though before software takes advantage of it. Heck, most mobile software cannot yet take advantage of all 4 cores on a phone.
I could see some things like water proofing get added as well. But beyond that, what else is there on the horizon?

I agree to an extent. Perhaps in its day it was arguably the best phone that could have been realistically been built.
Amoled was pretty good for its day, especially in movie mode and the Pentile because it was partial RGB, was not a huge issue despite the low pixel density
Good camera, with only the Nokia camera phones coming out on top
Pretty good battery life Wolfson DAC, providing very high quality audio out
Pretty good speakers
Exynos SOC was the best for its day, although Apple did with its PowerVR series have a stronger GPU
Qualcomm radio was pretty good at holding a signal, as was quality of call.
Only flaw was that Samsung did not release full documentation. The Exynos problems have hampered AOSP development.
No other major flaws (ex: like the Galaxy S and the GPS problem).
For it's day, it was perhaps the best phone that could have been made.

My guess is I'm just not taking advantage of the quad HD display. An HD game may change that. Please wait while I download an HD game and test it with brightness up. Still waiting for 500mb download. We appreciate your patience, The next available representative will be with you shortly...... OK, Download and test complete. Just looks like a normal HD screen to me. The reason I decided on the note 4 over any other newer note was that the verizon version has svlte. I don't know about other carriers. The galaxy s5 also has svlte. It just means that you can make calls and use data at the same time when you're not on wifi. Am I happy with my recent purchase? Yes I am. The only things I don't like? I wish it were the size of the s5,s6,s7... I have small hands. But I just had to have the note features. Hey samsung if you're listening MAKE A NOTE THAT'S THE SAME SIZE AS THE GALAXY S SERIES. And the second thing, I came from the LG G4 to this so it had a low light camera that I really liked. The note 7 is the one you'd have to get if you want that. OK back to this now.
So lets get to the specs, How is the note 4 better than the nexus 4?
1. note 4 is bigger if that's what you like
2. has the s-pen
3. almost double resolution
4. an extra gig of ram
5.Higher pixels per inch
6. Better camera with slow motion, fast motion, Smooth motion aka 60fps which looks amazingly clear.
7. faster processor
8.faster GPU
9.more storage space
And I'm sure their is more. But with that said if you're looking for something a little more flashy, You might consider the Galaxy note edge. It's the exact same phone as the note 4. Except it has an independent display on the edge of the phone (not like the s6 and s7 edge.) BUT!!! one downfall to the phone is that it does NOT have svlte. But then again that is on the verizon version. I don't know about other carriers etc. But yeah I'm happy with my note 4 and I think you will be too as long as you have big enough hands to handle it.

Stock DPI is a problem. Its the last Samsung phone with really ****ty old school touchwiz. Its also not gonna get Nougat. If you are willing (or want) to go custom ROM its probably still one of the best phones you can get for the money.

Can I ask what is wrong with the stock DPI? Is that more of a personal preference? As far as the touchwiz I agree some things I don't like about it. But nothing that I can't and haven't already masked with a launcher. Also according to this website the note 4 will be getting nougat http://www.rootupdate.com/2016/07/Name-of-samsung-devices-upgrading-to-nougat-70.html
Aside from that I personally don't think anything in nougat has caught my interest unless it brings specific updates to the note series rather than just a different name with a couple new broad spectrum features that work for any device running it.
EDIT: after reading more on that site they mention down in the comments that note 4 will be had through cm14. So I posted a comment and am waiting for the writer of the site to respond. Like I was saying though I'm not feeling like I'm missing out on nougat since it doesn't seem like it offers much.

Not sure if the best overall but definitely the best phone with user replaceable battery. ****ty oldschool Lagsung software though.

It's easy to change the launcher!
That being said, absolutely love my N910c.
Blazing fast with everything I do and ridiculously long battery life.
Love that it plays games as smooth as the iPhone.
Can't say that about other androids even some of the top 2016 models
So is there any other phone you guys recommend than the note 4? maybe the oneplus 2?

Performance wise, it can still compete with the newest phones on the market and no phone can match it's features. This will likely be the last samsung devise truly targeted at power-users.
Only other devices I would consider if I had to replace would be nexus 6p or pixel.

No, but OnePlus 3 is, and it is not expensive at all. If you want expensive device and better than Note 4 from almost every angle except display then go for HTC 10.

No. I would even argue that 3 isn't clearly "better." What n4 has over 3 are following:
Spen + software utility
Expandable storage
camera (maybe)
Higher resolution
Ir blaster
Removable battery
Lower price
That being said, all this is relative to your own use and expectations from a device. If some or all the things listed above are not important than the oneplus 3 (and several other phones for that matter) may be a better choice for you.
For my use there are currently no worthy compromises. Add that to the fact that performance improvements (outside benchmarking apps) are negligible.
