[Q]Can't flash a tot even in emergency download - LG Revolution

Hey guys, I'm having an annoying problem here.
When I try to connect my phone to a computer, it just goes straight to charging, it doesn't even recognize on either end that a USB is connected to a computer. Now, sometimes I can force it to work, but that is like around 200 tries and it finally connects. I suspect it might be in test mode (but I'm not sure, I tried pressing # on the dialer to see if it pops up but nothing shows), so I've tried to follow the instructions to flash a .tot file by pressing power + volume up, unfortunately, the computer still doesn't recognize anything is connected, and neither does LGNPST. I have all the drivers properly installed (I was able to successfully downgrade to zv7/install gingervolt last week), and am out of ideas on how to get it to work. Any help would be appreciated.
So far I've tried about 6 different cables in four different USB ports to no success.

pow + vol down (hard reset) should work, phone has to be completely off. not even the charging animation. unplug from pc, pull and replace batt, put batt in then plug into usb then hard reset (hold until factory reset pops up) 10 secs or so
this has allways worked for me no matter how badly i messed up the phone.

Well, I tried your method of a hard reset and it still didn't work. Any other ideas? Is there any way to make the computer force to recognize the phone when its in emergency download mode?

I'm having a similar issue on a friend's phone
Edit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1564941 I think this is the solution

I followed the instructions exactly, and LGNPST still isn't noticing anything and won't go into emergency mode......this is frustrating me....if I can just get this thing back to stock and lose cwm i can just take it to the store and get a new one.....
*EDIT* Well it randomly decided to connect to my computer again. The problem now is as soon as it goes into download mode(LGNPST is at around 11% complete and about to start on the Masterbin), it loses the connection to the computer and can't finish flashing the tot file....ugh..

Anyone have any ideas? I'm going crazy over here trying to figure out whats wrong. Every like 100th try, it will connect to the computer still, but if I try and run mt's revoallinone package it fails to unroot (says access is denied or folder not found), or try lgnpst it loses the usb connection the second it goes to that download screen.

Depending on what version your on or where your at as far as root stock etc this may or may not work i am at a loss, try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1626198

Yeah I've tried that. On the occassion that the COM port reveals which port is the phone(usually on the 100th time of reconnecting the usb cord and successfully able to go into usb debug) I run that program, only for it to state that this is not a lg revo and auto close before I can get all the log data. Its frustrating...I only started to have this problem when I installed GingerVolt.....

Will adb recognize your device, because i had the same issue on a newer revo, you say your on gingervolt then you should be able to set up root acces and push cwm through adb then boot to cwm and flash sonething anything a recovery or do a wipe from there and i believe i saw a method in the forums for installing a stock os fron a zip. All depending on usb connection though

I have cwm already on there. I want it and the root off and back to stock, but I can never flash a tot and unfortunately I have no experience with adb, but I guess I'll google instructions to unroot via that and see if I can go back to stock via it as well.

Phone Bricked

Hello,
I was previously using LG True version 0.6 ROM but wanted to go back to stock.
So I used it via the NVFlash way, half way through it putting it back to Stock, I accidentally unplugged my device thinking it was finished, now my phone won't boot up. Whenever I try to re-flash it with NVFlash the CMD auto shuts off with a message I can't read since it's that quick at shutting off when trying.
I have tried restoring via Smart Flash but that doesn't work (Tried holding vol down & plugging in but doesn't populate anything).
My phone won't boot.
I've tried re-installing the NVidia drivers, same issues.
The NVFlash gets the different stages before failing (Usually it gets to the point where my phone goes into S/W Upgrade mode, then fails)
I cannot get into S/W Upgrade mode to restore via Smart Flash as nothing happens.
Device manager picks up the phone as an NVidia USB Recovery device.
I appreciate any help as I'm lost without my phone.
Step-by-step guides are preferable since I'm new to flashing etc.
The phone is in download mode.
You need to find a way to send the rom to the phone, so the phones downloads the rom again and starts working.
Try pm'ing Paul over Twitter.
This is fixed now.
Unsure why, but trying a different USB port enabled me to use NV Flash and now booted up fine.
Thanks anyway guys and sorry for wasting your time.

Flash gone wrong

Hi,
I've flashed multiple times before without an issue until today.
First, here's my background information:
Samsung Captivate (ATT)
Was running Continuum 5.4.1 but it felt laggy so I attempted to flash MIUI 1.5.13.
Here's what I did:
I wiped my phone using the Odin One click tool, then flashed CM7's kernel and then performed formats of the cache, system, and data, then installed MIUI RC2. After this step the phone should have restarted, then I planned to shut it down and reboot into recovery and flash 1.5.13 onto it.
My problem(s):
-Boot into recovery/download mode using key combinations is not working.
-The ADB console reports device not found when I try to run adb shell.
-The phone is undetected in Droidexplorer.
-When I attempt to download an app to boot to recovery with the phone says there is no space even though nothing has been installed other then MIUI.
What I would like to do:
Get back to stock with download/recovery modes working.
On a side note: MIUI works, but in a very limited way. I can navigate through it, but it won't allow the installation of applications due to there not being room on the phone (as said before).
Thanks!
Update - my phone was being identified as a Nexus S, so without those drivers my phone could not be debugged via USB. I now have the drivers and can perform ADB commands, however rebooting into recovery and into download mode both result in the phone restarting without going to the download or recovery mode.
Try using ODIN and repartitioning. I have good videos on standard ODIN and Heimdall on YouTube just search them. If you can not get out of this contact me, I have been able to partition debrick in the past and it's actually considered by me far more annoying than standard bootloader JTAG in certain situations. Let's hope yours is easier to bail out of!
First of all thanks for the reply and direction.
Secondly:
After working on this all last night I was able to get the phone recognized by Odin and my computer, now I am stuck at one of two screens depending on what I do.
If the phone is powered off then plugged in, the battery charging screen appears but there is no animation and after unplugging it the battery charging image remains.
If I power the phone on it hangs on the Samsung boot screen.
Repartitioning does sound like the proper direction for me to take, but, when I use Odin it freezes while setting up the connection to the phone.
when the phone is powered off try holding both vol keys and plugging in the cable. That could possibly get you to download mode. If not try vol down/pwr at the same time since you are now on GB bootloaders the keys are a bit different. Let me know what happens and good luck
maybe you should try to build a jig and use it to get into the download mode first. or you can buy it on ebay, just search for "micro usb jig".
I've tried every volume and power combination possible to no avail, I can't get into download mode. I've given in and am exchanging my phone. Thanks for the help anyway guys!

Help! I need to get back to stock rom on droid bionic!

Dear Sir/Madam,
Before Spring Break, I rooted my droid bionic using motofail for windows. I do not know what the software version is, but I will include the software (motofail) in this email. On Thursday March 28, 2012 I decided to try installing ROMs to my Droid Bionic. I saw that Liberty Rom, Blurr3d Rom, and Eclipse Rom were cool roms. so first, I got Bootstrap (I will include it in this email) Bootstrap is a .apk file. I also got ROM manager, titanium backup, and one more, but i do not recall what it was. I made a backup of the stock ROM with ROM manager. and i installed bootstrap. little did i know that if something bad happens to the phone during a ROM install, you cannot restore a previous backup. So i cannot get my stock ROM back on. later on, before i had a problem with bootsrap i installed liberty ROM. then i got board with it then got blurr3d. then i got eclipse ROM. that's when i started to have problems. After i installed the eclipse ROM, noticed that i could not get any cell service or data service. I could get data from wifi though. So i freaked out and got liberty ROM. i read up on it and someone said i should get safestrap. Safestrap is like bootstrap but it is safer because you can access the recovery menu from boot and not have to access it through an application on the phone like with bootstrap. So after i got safestrap i installed it, rebooted it and made a back up. Before i made the backup i put plurr3d back on becasue i thought that the radio files from eclipse were not compatible with the radios on the bionic for some reason. This was all on Thursday. well, this time, it took 3-4 hours for blurr3d to get passed the welcome to andorid please touch the android to continue screen. on the screen it said, "please wait... this may take a few mins" after about 20 mins i got worried so I pulled the battery and rebooted the phone. and got back to the same screen. After i got back to the welcome to android screen, i had to go to football practice and dinner afterwards. when i got home, which was 3-4 hours later, I checked on the phone and it was past that screen and i was able to add my gmail account to it. For some reason or another, the cell and data services were not working. so i left it at that for a day or so and on Friday, I tried using what a lot of people are saying on the Internet which is, RSD lite. you can use RDS lite to flash a stock ROM onto the droid bionic. at that point, i thought that if i got the stock ROM back on, the radios would start working again. well, when I put the phone into fastboot mode it said,
AP Fastboot Flash Mode (S)
0A.61
Battery OK
OK to Program
Connect USB
DATA Cable
It also said the same thing when i connected the USB cable to the phone and the computer. RSD lite did not recognize the phone so i tried for a couple hours with the same result. Later on, I read that restarting the computer with the phone in AP Fastboot while the phone was plugged in would get the phone to say,
AP Fastboot Flash Mode (S)
0A.61
Battery OK
OK to Program
Transfer Mode:
USB Connected
This worked, but RSD lite still would not recognize the phone. So then i remembered that i had a stock ROM backup with bootstrap and i did. so i un-installed safestrap (one of the worst mistakes i made so far) and installed bootstrap. so i booted into recovery via bootstrap to restore to stock ROM. things did not go as planned... for some reason or another, it booted up normally. without going to recovery. then it wont to the dual core screen then the bionic eye screen with someone's ROM underneath it (it didn't say someones ROM but it said some one's name then the word ROM) then blurr3d ROM booted up and it kept crashing. so i ended up staying up to around 2-4 AM trying to fix that. i ended up saying forget this and going to sleep.
When i woke up in the morning, i looked at the phone and i had my data and my cell service back so i was confused so i started texting my friends and when i tried to go tot he home screen, nothing happens. but what i learned earlier is that when i reboot the phone, my data and cell service goes away for a couple of hours. So here i am now with my droid bionic, and cant do anything but text and call. i can only call when i get a text from someone, open up the text, and click on the phone number and click call when it brings me to the contact page for the number. I am also not able to access the home screen, the settings folder, or anything besides the notification bar. i really need my phone to use email, games, software (learning how to write java code), and for school in some instances. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your time,

Seems to me...you lost data along the way.
A possible reason rsdlite is not recognizing your phone might be because you dont have the proper moto drivers installed.
Try this rsdlite and install the correct drivers for your pc...http://dl.dropbox.com/u/63864500/rsd_drivers.zip
Make sure your battery does not die!
Boot into AP fasboot (power and down volume)
Use the cable that came with your phone.
See if rsdlite recognizes the phone.
If it does, you can flash the full 902 xml file (make sure your pc has 4g of RAM tho)
Do you have the full 902 xml file...if not, let me know.
Drivers
Dear Sir/Madam,
I have the correct drivers installed. When i connect the phone regulry once it is all booted up, i am able to access the sd card and the internal storage via windows explorer. The problem is that the phone refuses to connect to the computer in fastboot mode. i do not want to risk rebooting unless it is guaranteed to work 100% because I can still text and call on it for some reason. Every time the phone is restarted, the radios stop working for a while and i need to be able to text my parents where and when to pick me up from school.
Thank you for your time,
NH85
i notice that you didn't once mention a wipe data or otherwise cleaning of previous ROM before flashing another (correct me if im wrong). also DO NOT have bootstrap and safestrap installed at the same time, this could be what caused all your problems. in order to switch between the two (which i've had to do for webtop issue), you have to return to STOCK +root, uninstall the currently used strapper, reboot, then install the other. things start getting even hairier if you forget that safestrap has both a safe/non-safe system. you need to be doing the switch on the non-safe system if necessary.
the purpose of safe-strap isn't that it can boot to recovery, it's that it *creates a an isolated ROM installation while preserving your "safe" system in case things like everything your experiencing occur. from what i can tell, you did not change to safe system before flashing new ROMs, again correct me if im wrong. at any rate, a bit of advice for the future is follow directions to the dot, but before even attempting the install read through AT LEAST 3 or 4 pages of user feedback to see what the common issues or install goofs are!
that being said...
having your computer recognize the phone as storage device does not necessarily mean you have the right drivers installed, however it does mean that you probably have the right cable (this is important, bionic is finicky without the proper moto cable). you will know if you have the right drivers if you see in device manager Motorola ADB. when you plug your USB cable in, there should be an option for "PC Mode" which will force the computer to search for the drivers you claim to have installed correctly. if not found, here is your chance to install them properly and test RSD to make sure device is detected.

Obviously you don't.
Mass storage and ADB are not the same drivers.
If you are in fastboot mode and your device doesn't connect, it's most likely your missing or don't have the fastboot drivers installed on your computer properly.
Once you get the ADB driver from motorola you can use fastboot start flashing.
The information you need is here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=22758211 .
I had trouble using RSD to flash the .902 FXZ.
What I had to do is extract the .img files from the ZIP, and use fastboot through CMD to get everything up and running.
Just open up the XML file inside the zip, it will show you the commands you need to type to flash each section and when to reboot the bootloader

[Q] Cannot Enter Recovery Mode

Hello All,
Hoping someone will be able to assist me, though I'm starting to lose hope.
I have spent all day so far reading threads, and trying various suggestions and fixes, but nothing has really helped and I'm beginning to think the phone may just be kaput.
Initial issue was nothing out of the ordinary; woke up to find the phone was not responding so pulled the battery. After putting the battery back in, the phone would no longer turn on. Uh oh. Did the obvious, repull the battery, try again. Nothing. Connect to charger (nothing happens, no charging icon on screen). At this point I think the battery has died so I bought a new one. No change, phone still won't turn on and nothing happens when I plug it in to charge.
So now I connect it to my PC, and I get the installing hardware message trying to install the APX stuff which fails. After some research, I manage to get the APX drivers installed such that the phone is detected when I plug it in. More research, decide to try the AOI Toolkit to backup everything first. This works ok.
So now I try and enter recovery mode via Power key + Volume Down key. Nothing. Ok, change the recovery image then. Device is not detected via ADB method. NVFlash method instead then. The bootloader loads fine, the screen wakes up and shows the S/W Download... message. I figure this is a hopeful sign. I try all 3 (ics-cwm-5, ics-cwm-6, twrp-2.5). They all flash successfully. However, I can't enter recovery mode with any of them. Once I disconnect the phone, insert the battery and then hold down the Power + Volume Down buttons, nothing ever happens.
I've also tried the LG Update Tool and the Smartflash options, but the phone is never detected.
As a last resort I repartitioned. This also worked ok, but still no recovery mode.
tl;dr
Phone won't turn on, show as charging, or enter recovery mode. Works when connected as APX with AOI Toolkit.
Am I missing something? Doing something wrong? Any assistance is greatly appreciated. Thx.
Bump
Okay, I'm bumping this thread myself (mostly because I'm an idiot and this could happen to me, too), but to give you my two cents: Have you tried the Full Brick Repair tool? You flash it through NVFlash and apparently "it cures any brick". Try it and tell us how it went.

Thanks for the suggestion. The flash process itself completed without issue, but still nothing once the battery is inserted and the power button is pressed. I'm going to assume there is some sort of hardware issue at this point and consider the phone officially dead. Now, where's my hammer...?

Don't give up yet. Try smartflash and flash stock, or whatever. Seriously. Just keep on trying. I had a Samsung Captivate a year back and something similar happened where I woke up one beautiful morning, tried to unlock my phone: no response. I thought I had an SOD, so I pulled the battery out, reinserted: bootloop. Entered recovery, can't flash anything, unable to mount system/data partitions. Turns out my internal memory/ROM got fried. Yay. But until then, I tried every possible option. Wow, this turned out to be a bit depressing. Just try more stuff. After you've tried everything, and I mean everything, declare the phone dead.
I think i have a similar problem. Just woke up to find my phone to be dead. Tried the usual methods, nothing. Best it could do was from time to time show me a battery sign with a red triangle and a whtie exclamation mark in it. Then sometimes i manage to get into the recovery mode, there i tried practically everything. Used restore, it shows that restore was a success, but when i reboot my phone i get into an endless circle of bootloader icon appearing and dissappearing,
EDIT: somehow from the countless attempt it fired up.
Make sure to have the right bootloader before nvflashing unbrick roms....

Try to flash a new recovery image in apx mode.
And edit the /dev/block/mmcblk0p3 partition your self.
seek=6144 count=75 bs=1 / boot-recovery
Thanks for the added input and encouragement folks.
Just reporting an update:
Having been unsuccessful more times than I could count, I decided to physically disassemble the phone (normally Engineering fix #2, but performed out of order on this occasion). I have zero idea why it should have made a difference, as all I did was take it apart and then put it back together, but the phone has groaned back to life.
Of course, then sausage-fingers here managed to tear the digitizer cable when doing the final reassambly... /facepalm
Anyhow, I have a replacement on order, so I'm hopeful that when I receive that in a few days I'm back to a fully functional Optimus 2x!!

Is my phone hard bricked? h81120p

Recently I was running Prometheus custom rom, until it started actin funny, so I attempted to reflash cause the phone was getting slow over time. Tried reflashing but it didn't work. Tried other custom roms but each and every one of them kept saying * such n such isn't responding... System UI isn't responding, etc* unbearably slow, I no longer had landscape, sound, and the flashlight didn't work.
re-flashed the h81120N kdz with lg up tool, and the phone initially wouldn't even start, had to re flash 3 times before my phone said I had some upgrades... so it upgraded me to h81120p. Phone ran like a charm and I got all functionality back.
I attempted to at least re root h81120p, it initially worked then the next day I take phone off standby, and it turns off and wont boot past the LG logo screen. if it does the screen goes black. I put the phone in download mode and run lgup, and reflash with a stock h81120p kdz.. sh1t still doesnt work, tried again, sh1t still wont work. ' ventually, phone stopped staying in download mode, and when it does finally get there, LGup no longer recognizes its plugged in * please connect handset*. TF? computer only recognizes "Qualcomm HS-USb QDLoader etc.." under "ports"
Did some googling and was linked to LG flash tool and to a site on here for a .tot restore, which linked to some Vietnamese site I cant read, and one you have to pay premium vip in order to download the file, file seems to not exist anywhere else on the net.
so here I am... Phone barely stays in download mode, when in download mode, ( after multiple attempts of removing usb cable and battery, holding up on the phone while trying different combos of plugging in phone/ cable)LGUP doesnt recognize it, phone does not boot past the Lg logo , a factory reset does nothing.
first my laptop fails, now my phone is gone. wtf? can anyone help?
