[Q] 'USB on the Go' no keyboards or mice, wired or wireless working, any idea please? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello Members, i'm not a developer, but have a Note GT - N7000 uk version running Gingerbread 2.3.6. , so i would very grateful for you help.
I've bought two 'USB On The Go' adapters, one was not Samsung, one is. When i plug in any adapter the phone see's it, if i plug in a mouse or keyboard, wired or wireless the phone reads it saying...keyboard connected or Mouse connected, but no mouse pointer appears, nor does the keyboard types anything.
If i plug in any USB flash drive, it is always read and i can see all the files.
What's going on? I get the feeling ther's nothing mechanically wronge with the phone, but feel it maybe a data issue.
A bluetooth keyboard or mouse has no problems working, but using a keyboard/mouse this way seem's less responsive via bluetooth, than USB wireless.
I've included a screenshot from my 'about' screen, any help would be really helpful.
Kind regards
Livio

I tried many keyboards via OTG cable. It seems the only workable is the logitech (without integrated touchpad).
I'm now using a bluetooth keyboard (chinese manufacturing) working very well, in order to leave free the mini-usb and put it on the hdmi adapter.

I can plug a USB mouse in and the pointer shows up and it works.
I've only tried 1 USB keyboard and it didn't work.
It was an old Acer (I think) and it had a lot of lights, so I'm not sure if it required too much power for the Note...
I also read that you might need to turn the phone off, plug in the keyboard and then boot the phone up with the keyboard plugged in.
But that was after I had access to the keyboard to try.
So for me, mouse works, keyboard doesn't.
I just plugged the keyboard and mouse in out of curiosity.
I have a BT mouse and I've ordered a BT keyboard and hoping that will arrive in about a week.

Thanks for the replies, i tried a few keyboards and mouse makes, and i even tried the 'switch off /switch on' method with no luck, what's strange is that it see's the items plugged in but the mouse pointer doesn't appear even though the screen kind of does a quick refresh as if the pointer was going to show.
My conclusion is that it can only be Gingerbread, i'm guessing that when the ICS update finally gets offered for download, wireless keyboards and mice will work, i've done the same as yourselves and just bought a bluetooth keyboard and mouse, both different and reputable makes so i hope that they work ok.
Regards

Usb host Mouse

Hi, I have just got a usb host cable and I works fine for my pen drive but had a few questions to ask.
Is it possible to connect (via usb) Another android phone and access the micro sd from it to transfer files. The HD2 in question charges itself via usb host but enabling mass storage does nothing on the note.
I have tried my gigabyte wireless mouse and logitech wireless keyboard and neither worked. I have a BT keyboard so only really bothered about the mouse tbh.
I'm on the. Latest rocketrom.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

The Note has native support for HID's like keyboards and mice via both Bluetooth and USB. However, when it comes to USB, the more basic the device, basically, the closer to true plug-n-play a device is, the more likely it is to work. Also, with regard to wireless keyboards and mice, depending on the power requirements of the tranceiver, those may or may not work either.
An interesting thing to point out is that USB hub's work fine. So if you have a powered USB hub, you could theoretically plug in a USB keyboard and mouse, and an external HDD (as long as it's in a compatible format!).

Hi
Have red around somewhere: On Android 2.3.5 the USB host function worked, but it was taken away on version 2.3.6. This is for the extended USB host functions. I have an OBD-adapter to connect with my cars computer and it needs this extended function. Likewise, there are Apps that can remote control digital cameras and also see "live view" from the camera.
I have 2.3.6 and USB pens are working and my compact camera work (in PC modus), I can read and copy files. When I try my external hard drive it won't work. Haven't tried with external power to it. (An alternative could be to use an USB-hub with external power to it. Haven't tried this yet.
I have understood that when you get to version 3.1/3.2 the extended USB host functions will work again, and also the ICS version 4.0. I'm excitingly waiting for an upgrade...
I have the original USB-adapter from Samsung
Not all USB pens or hard drives will be supported, as earlier mentioned...

[Q] USB keyboard recognized, but no input

I've tried this with three USB keyboard so far: I plug them in to my Note via the OTG cable, the notification bar identifies them as keyboards, but I can't get any application to accept text input from them.
My latest one is a folding Geyes keyboard which is too cool to sell, so I'd really like to get it working. Any ideas on what's going wrong?
Even am facing same problem here, able to connect mouse and USB Drives. but not able to use Keyboards.
Is the same when you unplug and plug again otg cable?

Yep, same.
(And I know my new keyboard works because I'm using it to type this answer on my PC...)
The same problem here, but it works with wireless USB keyboards.
Not Bluetooth, that ones with proprietary dongles. I thought it's some sort of a power problem and the wireless dongles need less power.
So i stripped a USB extension cable, cut the power lines and inserted another usb cable. Like an Y-Adapter used for 2.5" hard drives. This additional plug was put in the Charger and it powered the keyboard. Still no luck.
The cable itself works. Tested it with a mouse, a card-reader and even a 2.5" hard disk and the Note was happy with it.
/me:
Edit: Tried to change the keyboard layout. I need qwertz, not qwerty. Not possible at all. Seems that Android 2.3.6 has no option for that. Hope ICS will do better. Even other keyboard will work, it's absolutely useless for me.
So, no one figuret out why USB keyboards don't work?
My USB Keyboard can't work too
My keyboard is samsung AA-SK0TKBD
solution is easy
You have to restart mobile. Yes, really not practical but that works.
One more thing, the captcha verification during each post is really annoying. Last my answer here.

[Q] USB OTG problem- disconnecting?

Hi guys,
I have a strange problem with the OTG adapter. Namely, when I connect my rii mini wireless keyboard with touchpad, everything works just fine, and then suddenly I can only use the touchpad and the mouse buttons but cannot type, or viceversa- the pointer just disappears (the Note still says 'mouse and keyboard connected'). It happens totally random and not long after the initial plugging in. It happens on both ICS and GB root (now using). I use this adapter: http://goo.gl/CRjN8
Any ideas/suggestions are welcome
?
Nobody? Any ideas/suggestions?
Just to add that transferring from a flash memory/usb card reader works fine
I am having same problem with mouse cursor disappearing few second after inserting the mouse. I also noticed that when first inserting my dell/asus/microsoft optical wired usb mouse using OTG connector my I9100 recognise it as usb mouse connected and for next few (say 40) seconds randomly it works like charm and than suddenly it disappears and no power to the mouse(no light at the mouse sensor) .
I also upgraded from GB to ICS via Kies but no improvement
anyone knows the solution?
Is this a wired solution, or BlueTooth?
Bluetooth is a known issue, its just got fixed.
Try latest CM9-kernel. Or 4.0.4 based kernel (SpeedMod K3-9/Notecore).
If its wired then I can't help you.
I bought a OTG dongle... which didn't work, I'm too lazy to order another one (its mostly the anxiety of waiting weeks for it)

Download "ntfs mounter" at google play. Open the app and plug in your otg cable with pendrive inserted. All the problem will gone.
Try it and report back.
Good luck mate

[Q] dock with keyboard/trackpad

anybody know of a decent dock that will serve as a stand and offers a keyboard w/ trackpad? i just got my n7 and ordered one of these http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009WSCW4S/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 with it and i'm finding that the touchscreen is pretty awkward to use while it's docked. i've scoured amazon for something more suitable with no luck so i thought i'd ask the hive mind. if no such dock exists i should be able to pair a bluetooth mouse or touchpad at the same time right?
Wow... No answers? LoL!! Um... just in case others come looking, you can pair a bluetooth mouse with it. I was looking at that very keyboard dock today. I want one. LoL!! My plans was to use a USB OTG and a wired USB mouse. I may invest in a bluetooth mouse, though.
One thing I've tested before was using a USB OTG: connecting a USB Splitter to it: Then connecting a mouse and keyboard to the splitter. This works. The only issue here may be power. Sometimes the keyboard wouldn't work, or sometimes the mouse wouldn't work. Other times both work fine. I'm lucky enough to have a USB to USB cable, so I plug one end into a power source, laptop, wall adapter, etc, then the other end into one of the splitters. This will give power to the keyboard, mouse and Nexus.
