"Take Photo" app in my app drawer?? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just noticed an icon in my app drawer called "Take Photo".
When you launch it the stock camera pops up. What is unusual though, is that the small square in the bottom left of the screen (in portrait mode) that usually shows the most recent photo taken is blank. And, if you press that button it doesn't show any photos.
If I launch the normal camera app, the recent photo is shown in that square...
Has this icon always been there, or did another app install it?
It doesn't appear in the list of apps in the app manager.
Thanks,
Rich

You have FriendCaster Pro installed that adds that icon to the app drawer.

It's probably a facebook shortcut icon.

Thanks. Yes I do have Friendcaster installed. Why do all of these apps keep adding extra icons.
At least the recent FB update removed the extra camera and messager icons when they realised people don't like redundant icons.

[Q] Apps icon has disappeared!

Stock Captivate 2.1 Éclair. ADW launcher.
I had an app freeze up the phone. Had to remove battery and restart. Now the Master Bar (or whatever it is called) at the bottom no longer has the Apps icon in it! The other two are still there.
I now have no way to get into the primary apps list--can run only those that have shortcuts on the home screens. I cannot find any way to get the Apps icon back.
Help, help help please. This is a major fail.
Make sure your desktop is unlocked first ...
tap the screen, hold, then select "launcher actions" -> open/close app drawer
you should have a link to open the apps.
then you can drag and drop the link to the dock.
Or enable the awesome option in adw settings that let's you swipe up anywhere on the screen to open the app drawer.

While on your homescreen press menu -> adw settings -> general behavior -> swipe up actions, and select open close app drawer.

OK. Cancel this question.
Out of the clear blue, it reappeared, but this really scares me. Had it not fixed itself, I would have had a serious deficiency in the phone.
except, previous shows a method (thanks) to recreate the icon, so it would not have been fatal.

Ooooooo...I like this one. Thanks.
Any other nice tricks/settings?

[Q] exiting "app info" screen

I have noticed that when using certain apps (ES File Explorer and Avast! being two examples) that if I enter an "app info" screen from these apps it opens in full screen with no apparent method to exit the screen short of returning to home. Am I missing some gesture? Entering "app info" from default "settings" allows me to back out - but no such option exists in these cases. What is more if I do go to home then restart the guilty app using a shortcut it puts me back to my last location for that app, which of course is stuck in the "app info" screen.
edit: Forgot I'm using Nova launcher
Me to, why does that matter?

My particular problem was that I would enter the info screen through a misclick, attempt to return to the previous screen, use home to access desktop then end up back inside the same (dead end) info page when I attempted to reopen explorer through the desktop. As a novice to tablet interfaces I found this circular dance at best, unintuitive.

There is a solution. But you have to install an app. It is GMD Gesture Control Lite. It is free but sometimes nags you to buy the full version. I found out about it because another user wanted to hide the status/navigation bars. The app adds the ability to add finger swipe gestures for specific actions. One swipe that comes with the free version is back. So with that installed, just give the pre-defined swipe action and it goes back. And if you buy the full version it adds the swipe to hide or show the status/nav bar. So, if you give it that swipe, the back bar appears. I found I had trouble with the multi-touch tablet swipes, so I configured it for phone so it only took single touch swipes.
I could see where that app would be handy in a lot of situations. I am going to keep it installed. May even recommend it in my tips thread.

I tried that out but couldn't get consistent behaviour from it. More often than not a gesture wouldn't register.
Ok misunderstood your problem. Yes I've seen that too. Have to kill the app in manage apps

Notifications

Is there a way to limit the notifications in the top bar to icon of app only rather than having the text scroll first then the persistent icon? I don't want to disable the entire notifications like in the app settings, just the text.

It depends on the app. For example, third party SMS apps often have a setting to do just what you described. I don't think any stock apps have that setting.

Default Screen

I accidently removed some deafult icons on home screen. How can i get back to fx this :

What did you break again?
I don't think you've broken anything
If you've lost some app icons, open the app drawer and drag the apps to the desktop. If you've lost some widgets, tap and hold an empty part of the desktop and you'll be able to re-add them.

[Q] Recent Apps: app thumbnails are dimmed now

A few weeks ago the "Recent Apps" display changed on my Z3C.
Before, I would get a nice bright display of all open apps.
Now, I get a full brightness trash can icon, but the app thumbnails are all dimmed. It's difficult to make out the apps in a reasonably light environment. This screenshot may not look so bad, but in bright light, it's quite bad.
How can I restore full brightness to the app thumbnails?
(The phone is running stock Android 4.4.4.)

That's strange. I don't know what that trash can is for. I don't have a trash can on the screen when I tap the recent apps button. Have you restarted your phone lately?

It's a problem with the Recent apps small app. Or some small app of that sort. Quick multitasking. Delete that and you'll be fine

Fast app switcher small app. That's the one.

No need to delete anything. This "garbage can" shows up when long-pressing any of the small apps, to allow removing them from the quick list. Try long-pressing something again, and if it won't work - clear the app data for fast app switcher.
Wow. I never would have figured that out! I never use Small Apps, but apparently sometime pressed one.
Just now I long-pressed one, and -- poof! -- it was deleted and the trash can disappeared. I have no idea what Small App I just deleted. LOL!
Damn and here i had to delete it :'D
