[Kernel] Unsecured Boot Images - Galaxy Tab 2 7" Android Development

Samsung made these devices a bit more secure than normal (this is a good thing), by making adbd ignore ro.kernel.qemu/ro.secure/ro.debuggable.
However some people prefer an unsecured boot image that runs adbd as root, so here you go. These are stock with ro.secure=0 set, and with a standard AOSP adbd, please match them with your firmware (do not flash to other firmwares)

Will this method erases the old data / system? If yes then I will try this as last resort but in the meantime if there's safer (and smaller downloads, the full rom is about 700 mb in size) way I'll try that first.

What i did, just flash the recommended firmware over my existing 4.0.4 XXBLE3 & no data wiped after finished boot...

[Q] flashing custom recovery - frustrated!

Hi,
Upgraded to 2.3.3 and lost root.
Bored of mucking about with oneclick etc, I unlocked the bootloader. Easy(ish), cool!
Trying to flash amon ra with fastboot, everything goes well (appears as though it's flashed). But when I re-boot, it isn't there!
Padlock showing - so bootloader unlocked.
Nexus drivers installed, device showing with "fastboot devices".
Trying to flash amon ra 2.2.1.
Any suggestions?
Ta!
Andy
When you boot a stock rom it wipes custom recoverys and puts the stock one back.
Use the search feature on the forum.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Read my signature, look there for recovery installation guide w/ unlocked bootloader.

Thanks for your reply.
I've spent (literally) all day searching the forum (I'm in the uk - so hours and hours). There's so much, and some of it contradictory.
Ok, so I can't put a rom on without a custom recovery, but I can't put a custom recovery on because the stock rom wipes it?
I don't actually want a custom rom, simply a rooted stock phone. Which I have had previously.
Cheers! (driven to booze!)

Yes, that's what I've been doing. There's a mistake in that part of the faq:
Faq states at the end "reboot recovery"
Should be "reboot-bootloader"
That works, but as soon as I then reboot into 2.3.3 - it wipes the custom recovery (which is why I'm in the q + a).
The other problem I'm having is that my phone doesn't appear rooted from within the o/s (apps that require root don't work), but the padlock is there ans the bootloader is unlocked. I can install su and busybox installer from the market, but neither work.
Back to the beer!
Andy
I can't explain all in detail while on my phone.
Do this. Grab a preroooted stock rom from the dev section and put it on SD card.
Boot into fastboot and flash the custom recovery.
Then load up that recovery without booting up the os.
Flash the rom you downloaded.
There are other ways to fix your issue but this is probably the simplest for you.

Thanks, that makes sense - and I agree with your statement above (simplest for me)!
I had (mistakenly) thought that unlocking the bootloader, then installing busybox and su from the market gave me a rooted phone.
I'll give it a go, when my wife regains her patience ;-)

Guide fixed. I've uploaded and linked the file that removes the stock recovery restoring files from the stock ROM.
You can repeat the guide and include the new part - it should prevent stock recovery from being restored on reboot.
Please try and write your feedback.

Easy Root Official V30B Stock

OK, based on the previous topic on rooting V30A, here is the updated package for those people who want to just root V30B, while keeping the stock bootloader and recovery. It's an image of /system directory (taken from the new V30B) which includes su and superuser.apk.
http://d-h.st/nzI
http://depositfiles.com/files/zdnn68vt4
(filesize: 286,931,373 bytes, MD5: c787ef960b18e222b23327eaa34db0f5)
Just connect your phone in NVflash mode, and run the batch file. Successfully tested by me. Enjoy! I take no credit for the method; I am just providing an updated system.img.
As noted above, this rooting method does NOT install unlocked bootloader or CWM! If you want unlocked BL and CWM, the P990 AIO Tool is the easiest way to do it (it also does many other things -- if you haven't tried it, give it a go, it's wonderful!).

This is for rooting V30B, so you need to flash this ROM first.
Flashed SmartFlash' able ICS V30B (FLS+BIN) from this post thanks to trocopassu
and then NVFlashed this V30B root....
ROOTING WORKED FLAWLSSLY, NO DATA LOST. Amazing Rooting Tool. Works 100%.

Internal storage size doesn't matter in this case I think, but 10.1.C.0.370 is for WiFi model and LTE model's firmwares use a different build, like 10.1.E.0.265.
It is not recommended to flash a different zip...
If you are already up to date and only want root, reboot fix or recovery, try @DooMLoRD's new root tool and the fix mentioned in the #1.

Hi Fisherman, your links are down, could you please check it? or maybe create a mirror on another server?
By the way, is this a FTF file? or flasheable ZIP? i guess is a FTF because i read on DoomLord thread that in order to flash recovery you need to have the bootloader unlocked.
Thank you.

Cannot upload at the moment, if d-h.st does not recovers tomorrow I will upload to another mirror.
And this is a CWM flashable zip as stated in the title.
Also installing recovery does not necessarily require unlocked BL/Custom Kernel, it can be installed on a rooted rom. Find a version works in that way~

Oh nice. I guess he stated that before because the system rw reboot issue, so the best way to achieve that was using fastboot. Thank you man!
I don't understand some points in the installation instructions.
1) Why must the 370 FTF / update be flashed first? When anyway after that 344 must be flashed???
2) When the bootloader is unlocked, I can install / run CWM directly and flash this ROM here directly, or can't I??

Well in the instructions he said:
1. the .370 without flashing system.sin and userdata.sin, that means, only stuff not related to the system partition and well, you can keep your data because userdata.sin is not selected.
2. the .344 only system.sin because this is the one with most opportunities to root using bin4ry tool.
3. then in the files he provides, you will have the 370 system with all the fixes but that one is a CWM flash file, so you will need to install the recovery and then flash this file. See the attachment he posted here.
If your bootloader is unlocked you can use fastboot to flash the recovery. Also you can skip flashing those FTF files, and just flash the CWM file. But i believe that someone confirmed that you won't need this because if your bootloader is unlocked you can install root and remount /system without any issues.

Since you have already updated firmware, no need to install this if the new rootkits work, try them.
Find DooMLoRD's above.
Translated Japanese toolkit from 2ch in attachment.
If they don't apply to our Tablet Z, you will have to flash 344 FTF (system only) then do the rest.

You can not flash a CWM zip without recovery, and it need root to install one, and no root for 370 now
So it's necessary to download a 344 FTF, flash the system part only, and use the old working toolkit to root it.
It may be very likely to fail on different devices because the rootkit uses a kernel exploit, the address for which to run just usually varies from kernel to kernel.
Wait for our great devs to figure out the working address will be the most painless.
Or do the operations in the OP, and of course install a custom kernel after unlocking BL if you don't mind doing so, is way faster atm.
Here's an older rootkit also from 2ch. Try it if interested.

[GUIDE]How to Revert to Stock/Reflash firmware/Unroot[TWRP/NON-TWRP]

Hey Xda,
Today I present you a guide on how to
REVERT TO STOCK OR REFLASH firmware on the Asus Zenfone 2 Laser ZE5550KL.
This guide is applicable to both types of users ie who use TWRP and who don't use TWRP.After following this guide your phone will also be unrooted.
For TWRP Users
Here I give you links to two firmwares which you can directly flash via TWRP recovery.
Version:1.13.40.496
Link
Version:1.17.40.1234
Link
For Stock/Non-TWRP Users
The procedure is a little long here ==>
1. Download the official firmware from asus website.
2. Copy the firmware to the Micro-SD and rename the file (firmware) by one more(version). This renaming should be according to your current firmware version. If you have 17.something firmware and you download 16.something firmware then rename the 16.x.x file to some thing like 17.x.x For eg. if you have 1.17.40.763 then rename 16.x.x file to 1.17.40.764.
3. Reboot the phone.Android should automatically find the update file and offer to automatically update the software.Do it !!
4. Go to stock Recovery and wipe cache , dalvik cache and data.
5. Reboot device. Your phone will now be unrooted(if it was rooted before).
DONT FORGET TO PRESS THE THANKS BUTTON IF I HELPED YOU.

Before going back to stock and re-rooting to see if the issue was still present, I thought I'd ask if this is something to worry about ? I have the ZE551KL (Z00T) and have been flashing for this device with no problems whatsoever. What is it that I did while unlocking , rooting, and flashing twrp that may explain why the build number and device model don't match? Additionally, at times my PC will recognize my device as a MotoG when my device is connected to the PC via USB . I don't have access to my PC right now so I can't say this with certainty, but I think my PC recognises my device as a MotoG only when the device is in TWRP.. Maybe that means something was done wrong while unlocking the bootloader?

I have the ZE551KL (Z00T) and have been flashing for this device with no problems whatsoever. What is it that I did while unlocking , rooting, and flashing twrp that may explain why the build number and device model don't match? Additionally, at times my PC will recognize my device as a MotoG when my device is connected to the PC via USB . I don't have access to my PC right now so I can't say this with certainty, but I think my PC recognises my device as a MotoG only when the device is in TWRP.. Maybe that means something was done wrong while unlocking the bootloader?

Well, I'll be damned. I was doing so much flashing at the time that I didn't put it together. Oh well. I've been back on the stock CM kernel for days and everything finally works as it should again.
