iPhone apps I WISH we had. Irealquicksms and SBsettings

I have both an iphone and a G1. Now people slate the iphone for not being open source, but in terms of productivity it seems the iphone still wins out for me, and it is almost entirely down to two apps which I feel the G1 could REALLY do with: sbsettings and irealquicksms. I am trying to use my g1 everyday as I'm considering selling my iphone and hope someone can point me in the direction of something similar, or the same. Best to look on YouTube for a full understanding of these apps, but in shorts....
Irealsms allows you to send an sms from within ANY application, simply by pressing the volume button followed by a tap on the volume icon that appears, or by doubletapping the homekey. This saves swapping between applications if a text needs to be sent, and also facillitates replying. This is invaluable if you are watching a movie clip and really speeds up the texting process...it is the one application I truly miss from the iphone more than any other.
SBsettings allows you to change almost ANY setting from within ANY application simply by swiping a finger across the status bar on iphone. This means, for example, that if one is watching a film, or browsing the web, one can change the brightness, turn on/off wifi, bluetooth, 3g, gps or any number of other functions by simply swiping the top of the screen, upon which a toggle board slides down the screen. A press of the menu key slides it back up again. I am amazed that this app hasn't been developed for android as it is much more efficient than silly toggle switch widgets which clutter the home screen and are far less practical if one is already inside an application
well Toggle Settings by cooolmagic places the application icon in the status bar for quick access, I find that a good replacement for SBsettings
Toggle Settings is definitely an awesome app and sounds like it would be a good replacement for that Iphone app.
I use ChompSMS and they are constantly improving their app. I'll get onto their website and request they add on a shortcut ability. Say double press on the camera button?
Or, another option is "Bar Control" to add a shortcut for ANYTHING to your notification bar.
Keyboard shortcuts are great, too.
I would suggest looking into sms popup. It makes the text msg pop up and you can just hit the reply button after you respond just hold down the home button and go back to the program you were using last.
Why not use the quick launch keyboard shortcuts for messaging (Search button + S) and Settings (no default)?
You can set shortcuts for up to 36 different apps and the shortcuts will work from any application. Just go to Settings > Application Settings > Quick Launch.
You could also just hold [HOME] and select Messaging/ChompSMS to send texts without having to drop back to the home screen (If it was one of your last 6 apps used anyways...)
Fandango would also be awesome.

Bar control allows you to put any app in the notification bar for easy access within most apps. So you could put your messaging app and a setting app (or any other app you may want) in the bar for easy access. The only exception would be apps that take up the full screen and hide the notification bar. Not many of those though.

App Vault Review

http://www.cyrket.com/package/uk.co.neilandtheresa.Vault
I tried this out today. Its claim is to "[d]isable apps and remove them from the launcher, without uninstalling them. Stow away apps you rarely use, or hide built-in apps you never use.." Also good for T-Mo US Rom root users to hide that useless Amazon MP3s app.
I tested it out by hiding (the app uses the term 'stowing') a Better Keyboard Skin shortcut, a widget shortcut and normal application.
The App Vault app does have an issue with requesting root permission, it requires it for stowing/unstowing each app (and multiple times for each app) it adjusts instead of having a global permission. Think of it as Vista's UAC for Android, compared to Windows 7's.
Stowing a Better Keyboard skin shortcut does not change any of your Better Keyboard settings. If you had that skin selected, it is still in use. However, you cannot reselect that skin in the app's skin manager anymore. The shortcut was successfully hidden from the launcher.
Stowing a Widget shortcut (I used Battery Status) was less successful than the Better Keyboard Skin. The widget remained on the home screen, but it no longer updated. I could also add the widget to my home screen still, so I did, but it remained at 0%, unable to update to the real percentage. The shortcut was successfully hidden from the launcher, however.
Stowing a normal application (I used the Babbler Facebook app) worked the same as uninstalling the app. Its home screen shortcut turned into the default APK icon and was unable to launch. It's widget remained on the selection screen for widgets, but like the Battery Status widget, it would not update. And like the others, the shortcut was hidden from the launcher.
Overall, it seems the vault is useful when hiding applications you don't use (especially stock apps), but not widgets or commonly used applications. As the Better Keyboard Skin was the only app that was successful in stowing and still being usable, and caused the least upset to me, I think I'll refund the application.
I hope someone can find a better use for it than I can.

hmm i wonder if i put something like set cpu or autostarts or something that you only configure once and then dont touch if the configurations will stay .. going to try it out
Why wouldn't you just use the modified launcher, you have root already, CM has it as default along with some others.
Caution when using this application.
DO NOT HIDE THE USER PERMISSIONS APPLICATION
if you do this, the app WILL become unusable and you will not be able to access root permissions in any way. the app should really be disabled from being hidden from the get go just to be on the safe side

weather widget/flip clock stops refreshing

i hope i don't create a redundant thread, but a preceding search (flip clocks) in the DREAM forum only returned 3 existing threads, which all did not discuss this question.
my weather widget/flip clock (donate version) stops refreshing frequently. it is usually trailing for some time, mostly up to an hour or so, until it wakes up again.
i know the instruction: exclude weather widget from task killer (or add to "ignore list")
HOWEVER....
i don't even have a task killer installed....
Toggle Settings has a task killer embedded, but I haven't even activated it (seemed to cause more problems than solving any...)
so... what else do i have to do, apart from that above, that i can't do.
thanks for any hint.
cheers
Download Advanced Task Manager and exclude it from there. You should have a task manager anyhow.
i tried that (with toggle settings task killer (ignore list)) and estrongs task manager (ignore list)... but both didn't change a thing.
that's why i am so confused

correction... i think it was just that.
i tried Advanced Task Manager, excluded weather widget in that one, and now it works like a charm...
but that means many other task killers are just not doing it right....... because they didn't work.
thanks for the help!
Had this issue, just paid the $0.99 for the app and hope this takes care of it.
Thanks all!

yes, all the best! at first it seemed not to work.
i managed it by doing the following:
1. open the weather widget app (not the widget, the app that comes along with it, in which we change settings or themes, etc.)
2. while weather widget app is open, start advanced task manager and add the weather widget app to the exlude list (also to the auto-kill exclude list)
this did it for me. finally the flip clock is on time. ALWAYS
my clock stops working when there is a forcast error and only starts working again when i refresh the weather. I've contacted the dev and told him about it and he said he will look into it.
i just figured out that although adding it to the exclude list of advanced task manager it still "crashes" occasionally.
then the weather app has to be re-started, and then it works again.
something makes weather app crashing, and i believe it's low memory. should extract a log ...
Same problem here. Excluded it from kill list, but still runs consistently behind, when it's not locked up for hours. Quite a disappointment after coming from Beautiful Widgets. Can't exclude from Auto Kill list on free Advanced Task Manager, but shouldn't have to buy an app to make another work properly!
i figured it out, somehow...
i realized that apart from Advanced Task Manager, I had also Toggle Settings, which also kills processes (I find this feature of Toggle Settings is not as intiuitive but it seems impossible to have it deactivated).
so, i have to:
- exclude from Advanced Task Manager
- exclude from Advanced Task Manager autokill
- exclude from Toggle Settings
- exclude from Toggle Settings autokill
... for any new app that has a task manager and autokill function this will have to be done separately
finally i got it working
I've tried excluding it from Taskiller, Advanced Task Manager, Estrongs, etc and it still stops refreshing. After unlocking, it's always wrong, requiring refresh. Hopefully dev can get this app working correctly.

I'm not sure if you are using Cyanogen, but if you go into your apps list open the Spare Parts app. Scroll all the way to the bottom of the list of options. The last one should be 'Home app in memory'. This is where the lesser of two evils comes in, at least from my experience. When checked, the Weather Widget clock will freeze and you will constantly have to refresh to update. When unchecked, no problems with the Weather Widget, BUT you will have a lag(2-5 sec) when returning to your Home screen. The delay may not bother you at first, but it will eventually...especially when you are trying to make a call and have to wait for all your icons to show.

[Q] About Customizing Stock ROM

Hello. I am using Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000, N7000ZSLR1, Android 4.1.2 Hong Kong version. There are something I am not quite satisfied with the ROM, I have rooted my device with Chinese one key root app so I wonder if there are some ways to customize the ROM.
1. The first thing is Notification screen. In this Android 4.1.2, when you pull it down, the shortcuts at the top will first display the tiles in picture 1, then it will automatically swipe to picture 2:
Picture 1:
Picture 2:
Is there any method that can modify / remove tiles at the top? Or at least make it like picture 2 in default when I pull down, no swiping.
2. In this ROM, the Task Manager no longer display in app drawer like Android 2.3.6, instead I need to long press Home button to go to "Recent App" screen and tap the pie chart icon at the lower left corner to open Task Manager. I'm curious, the system app is in \system\app, and it IS an .apk. So I wonder if I can at least make a shortcut from it and add to "Home Screen", I always need to use it and I don't want to download third party app for this shortcut.
Recent Apps screen:
View in ES File Explorer:
3. The default Launcher in the stock ROM is TouchWizHome, and by default there are no indication when you tap an icon to open the app. So I wonder if I can add some "effect" to notify me when I open an app, like dim the icon or glow at the edge of icon.
4. If you are a Titanium Backup user, please tell me that should I wipe system apps' data first before uninstall it. Because it always gives me a feeling of "unclean" if I don't wipe the data before uninstall it. I always uninstall system app to keep my phone slimmer and faster.
Thank you in advance.

New flow on Android 11 Note20Ultra

Hi.
I am currently using the automagic app on note20ultra with android Q. Unfortunately the app is not supported for android R. So I have a question about Tasker. I have a few done flows and I don't know if I can do it in Tasker too. Here is a list of flows:
1. by clicking on the icon on the desktop, the list of applications and the specific application are launched. Then the application options are selected. Here you will probably need a touch simulation feature.
2. Removing top notification bar notifications from specific applications.
3. A desktop shortcut that cleans up the recent app and locks the screen together with the greenify sleep app.
4. Transferring files downloaded from Firefox to an external memory card.
5. Launching GoogleMap and turning on the GPS. Disabling GPS when closing the application.
Please help to learn Tasker.
